Man sentenced over knife at Villa Park clashes - 01/02/2024
Source : https://www.bbc.com/
A man found with a knife in his pocket when violence broke out before an Aston Villa game against Legia Warsaw has been handed a suspended prison term.
Konrad Blaszkowski, from Bristol, was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for a year, at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.
The 40-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article.
He was one of a number of Legia Warsaw fans charged after the disorder near Villa Park on 30 November.
The violence erupted when about 1,000 away supporters were not given tickets, West Midlands Police said previously.
Flares, bricks and bottles were thrown towards police during the clashes, which saw five officers injured along with police dogs and horses.
Forty-six men were initially charged following the incident, with charges against 39 of those later dropped.

Apoel thrown out of Cypriot cup after violence - 02/02/2024
Source : https://cyprus-mail.com/
Apoel were on Friday thrown out of the Coca-Cola Cup by Sports Judge Aristotelis Vryonides, after their second-round game was abandoned due to fan violence.
The Nicosia-based club were drawing 0-0 away at Nea Salamina on January 16 when a firecracker launched from the away fans’ section hit Nea Salamina player Giorgos Papageorgiou.
Papageorgiou reportedly suffered damaged hearing following the incident.
Friday’s decision saw Nea Salamina awarded a 3-0 victory and a passage through to the quarter finals.
The game between Nea Salamina and Apoel was one of two Coca-Cola Cup second round ties which could not be completed due to fan violence.
The judge also imposed the following fines:
- Nea Salamina was fined €1500 after its fans carried dangerous items in the stands, including torches and firecrackers - Nea Salamina was also fined €1500 after its fans fired dangerous items (including torches and firecrackers) delaying the beginning of the match by four minutes - Nea Salamina was fined €2000 after fans spat on a referee and a player from the opposing team
- Apoel was fined €15,000 for the Papageorgiou incident - Apoel was also fined €2000 for not including two football players in its 11-member team
The other, held between Limassol rivals Apollon and Ael on January 24, was abandoned before it could even start as sets of fans threw fireworks and other objects at each other and invaded the pitch.
The trial of four men arrested following those incidents is expected to begin in May.

Famalicão - Sprting Portugal - 03/02/2024
Source : https://www.washingtonpost.com/
Portuguese league game postponed after fans brawl and police don't turn up
Sporting’s top-tier game at Famalicão has been postponed after fans brawled outside the stadium and police scheduled to provide security said they were too sick to work in an apparent labor protest, the Portuguese league said Saturday.
Portuguese state broadcaster RTP said that six people had been injured in clashes between rival fan groups in northern Portugal. The television channel showed images of young men hitting each another and throwing objects in the street.
The league said in a statement that the two clubs had agreed to postpone the game after officials determined that the safety of the match could not be guaranteed because of a lack of police personnel.
The league said that the police officers supposed to work at the game had “as a form of protest, claimed medical leave so as not to be present at the site, putting public peace and the physical integrity of thousands waiting to enter the venue at risk.”
Portugal’s police issued a statement saying that an “unusual number of police officers reported that they were sick” before the game.
Police added that there were also some incidents that disturbed “public order” — without elaborating — near the Famalicão Municipal Stadium, which contributed to the decision to call off the game.

AC Perugia - Rimini FC - 03/02/2024
Source : https://www.corriereromagna.it/
Clashes between Perugia and Rimini fans before the match.
Yesterday afternoon, near the Stadio Curi, another scuffle broke out. This time the protagonists were Rimini and Perugia supporters. The clashes only stopped when the police arrived, who are currently examining the images from the security cameras in the area.
According to an initial reconstruction, a small group of Rimini supporters, arriving in four minibuses, took Viale Pietro Conti. Instead of heading for the car park reserved for visitors, they ended up near the Grifo museum. It is not known whether this was a misdirection or an attempt to provoke Perugia supporters. What is certain is that a very violent confrontation ensued, during which a torch was even lit.
The local police had to block off traffic to avoid further problems, while police patrols intervened to restore public order. It remains to be seen how contact between the two groups of supporters was possible, given that there are reserved and controlled routes for visiting supporters.
Yesterday afternoon's events were reminiscent of the violent clash between Cesena and Perugia supporters on Christmas Eve. On that occasion, supporters from Stuttgart, who had come because they were twinned with the Bianconeri ultras, were also present. The vehicles left at Bastia were vandalised and tyres were punctured. The investigation resulted in a stadium ban for a Perugia supporter.

Angry scenes in Falkirk as a METAL FENCE is thrown after Welsh side book place in SPFL Trust Cup Final
The match was marred by angry scenes after the game which included two sets of METAL RAILINGS being lobbed at the away fans.
Between 30-40 visiting fans made the long trip north and saw their side win thanks to Brad Young's goal.
But their end of the Falkirk Stadium was later under siege from missiles with online videos showing objects thrown over a large partition fence as rival groups goad and taunt at one another.
At one stage a metal barrier used for crowd control is lobbed over from outside and lands amongst debris and wheelie bins.
Supporters in the Welsh end can be seen signalling the 1-0 scoreline as others from outside the stadium scale the perimeter barrier to shout obscenities between the rival groups.

Italy : Giulianova - SS Teramo - 04/02/2024
Source : https://www.iduepunti.it/
Troubles opposed rival fans close to the Fadini stadium. Finally, locals had to retreat after a punches and kicks were exchanged.
Five ultras were arrested today following the incidents that took place yesterday before the Giulianova-Teramo derby, which was part of the Eccellenza regional championship.
They are three Teramo supporters, including the one who injured a carabiniere, and two Giulianova supporters, aged between 26 and 37; a forensic police officer was also injured during the scuffle.
The five people, identified by video footage analysed by the police, were arrested in flagrante delicto for aggravated affray, throwing or using offensive objects at sporting events and wearing balaclavas.
Prior to the match, in an area used as a car park for visiting supporters, located on a street leading to the stadium, around 70 Teramo ultras, escorted by public order personnel, as they made their way in a procession towards the stadium, came into contact with around 30 Giulianova supporters, who had emerged from a side street towards the route of the procession.
Flagpoles were also used in the clashes. The immediate intervention of the police forces present calmed the clashes and facilitated the separation of the two sides.
