Bulgarian police detain 44 after violence at Sofia derby
Bulgarian police detained 44 people for public order offences after violence broke out between fans of rival soccer teams in Sofia on Sunday, authorities said.
The skirmishes broke out before the match between Levski Sofia and CSKA, which the home team won 1-0, as supporters threw fireworks, missiles and other objects at each other and police.
"Before, during and after the derby, a total of 44 people were detained for disturbing public order, carrying prohibited objects, pyrotechnics and narcotics," the interior ministry said on Monday.
No serious injuries were reported, police said.
The fixture has a long history of crowd violence. There has been a spate of clashes and arrests since 2000, when a 30-year-old fan was killed by a bomb.

Police arrest Schalke fan after Man City supporter injured - 25/02/2019
Source : https://www.foxsports.com/
German authorities say they have arrested a Schalke fan on suspicion of seriously injuring a Manchester City supporter during last week’s Champions League match.
Gelsenkirchen prosecutors say police were able to identify the 30-year-old suspect, who they described as a member of Schalke-supporting “Hugos,” a group that is considered “problematic” by authorities.
The suspect, whose name wasn’t released, allegedly became involved in an altercation between two members of each team’s supporters shortly before the end of Wednesday’s match.
The 32-year-old Manchester City fan suffered serious head injuries. German news agency dpa reported that he remains in critical condition.

England: Police highlight yob problems at Chesterfield FC after pitch invasion lands three fans in court - 26/02/2019
Source : https://www.derbyshiretimes.co.uk/
Derbyshire police who have been battling to stamp out a growing yob element at Chesterfield FC revealed the club has also banned 30 fans in its efforts to stop pitch invasions.
Police Constable Allan Guy highlighted the difficulties during a Chesterfield magistrates’ court hearing today, Tuesday, February 27, where Spireite fan Tyler Bonson, 18, was given a football banning order for his part in a pitch invasion and for using threatening behaviour.
Pc Guy said: “Chesterfield are having massive issues with the youth element causing problems at fixtures. Mainly at home fixtures but they have been seen at away fixtures. “We have got youngsters as young as 15 causing issues and trying to engage in disorder at fixtures and drinking heavily and Bonson is part of that group.” Pc Guy claimed that these youngsters are also attaching themselves to the club’s hooligan element - known as the Chesterfield Bastard Squad - but Bonson denied any involvement with the group. Police have dealt with over 20 youngsters by way of youth-engagement, according to Pc Guy, and Chesterfield FC has also banned 30 people after problems with pitch invasions.

UEFA takes action against Man Utd and PSG after Champions League clash - 28/02/2019
Source : https://www.mirror.co.uk/
United and PSG have both been fined following crowd disturbances during the first-leg of their last 16 tie.
Manchester United have been fined €16,000 by UEFA following their Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford earlier this month.
United have been sanctioned due to blocked stairways, contrary to article 38 of the UEFA Safety and Security Regulations, while their fans were also found guilty of throwing objects.
PSG, meanwhile, have been handed a €41,000 fine by European football's governing body for four offences after their supporters were found guilty of setting off fireworks, throwing objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbance during their 2-0 win.
The Parisian club has also been ordered to contact United within 30 days to reach a settlement in relation to damage caused to the Old Trafford seating and segregation netting in the section that housed their supporters.
"The CEDB [UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body] has decided to fine Manchester United FC €16,000," a statement released on Thursday evening read.
"The CEDB has decided to fine Paris Saint-Germain €41,000.
"The French club is ordered to contact Manchester United FC within 30 days for the settlement of the damages caused by its supporters to the segregation net and the seats."
PSG supporters had been pictured ahead of the game walking through Manchester city centre with flares, and the fireworks were again on display during the game.
Visiting winger Angel Di Maria, who set up both of his side's goals in the 2-0 victory, was subjected to abuse on his return to Old Trafford and was pictured pretending to drink from a bottle that had apparently been thrown at him.
It was reported that a bottle of water was subsequently thrown Di Maria's way while a bottle also landed at the feet of United left-back Luke Shaw during the first half.
The Manchester Evening News reported that around 800 seats were ripped out or broken during the match, while netting - used to segregate rival supporters - was ripped down.
"Our fans created a great atmosphere getting behind the team last night," a United source told the MEN at the time.
"PSG fans played their part, but some of their behaviour clearly went too far."

Italian jailed for vicious assault on Liverpool fan Sean Cox - 28/02/2019
Source : https://www.itv.com/
An Italian fan has been jailed for three and a half years for a vicious assault on Liverpool supporter Sean Cox before the club's Champions League game against Roma last year.
Simone Mastrelli, 30, from Rome, was extradited after being arrested on a European Arrest Warrant in Italy in connection with the attack on father-of-three Mr Cox, from Dunboyne in Co Meath, Ireland.
Mr Cox suffered serious catastrophic head injuries in the attack outside Anfield and is now being treated in a rehabilitation clinic in Ireland.
Mastrelli was leading a group of between 50 and 60 Roma fans who wore the distinctive dark clothing of an unofficial body of supporters known as Ultras - many of whom covered up with hoods and balaclavas, and some who carried belts as weapons.
Mastrelli launched an unprovoked attack on Mr Cox, who was wearing a Liverpool scarf, and felled him with a single, heavy blow before he disappeared into the crowd of away supporters.
The Recorder of Preston Judge Mark Brown said Mastrelli: "You must have picked him (Sean Cox) out because of the Liverpool scarf. Your head and face were covered by a hood and a balaclava and you were in front of Mr Cox with both arms raised towards him in a somewhat aggressive or confrontational way."
Mastrelli then delivered the blow which knocked Mr Cox to the ground and turned away to check his face-covering was still concealing his identity. In the minutes that followed, he moved within the crowd and changed his appearance by removing the hood and face-covering and taking off his jacket.
Judge Brown went on: "You then went into the stadium to enjoy the match, which was particularly callous given what had just happened and what you had done to Mr Cox. The next day you returned to Italy.
"There was huge international publicity but you did not come forward."
Outside court, Mr Cox's wife Martina said: "Today brings to a close to the court process. However the effects of the attack on Sean will remain with us for a lifetime.
"While it is pleasing to know that Mr Mastrelli will serve three-and-a-half years, he has given Sean and our family a life sentence.
"I would like to thank the police and all those that have been involved in the case and to all who have given us so much support."

Fiorentina - Atalanta - Cup - 28/02/2019

Atalanta fans accuse police
Atalanta ultras have accused police of attacking them in an ambush “for no reason” and leaving many with head injuries after the Coppa Italia game with Fiorentina.
The thrilling 3-3 draw at the Stadio Franchi on Wednesday evening was a great advertisement for Italian football, with over 3,000 Atalanta supporters in the stadium.
There were no signs of crowd trouble during the game, but a group of Atalanta ultras claim they were beaten by police on their way home to Bergamo.
“As we were about to drive on to the motorway, something happened that we are still struggling to comprehend,” wrote the ultras group on social media.
“We want to make clear there was no contact with the Viola fans, before or after the game, and it was a perfectly calm atmosphere.
“On the return journey, accompanied by a police escort, the caravan of almost 20 buses was separated and divided up by police to ‘check what was going on.’
“They separated out the first bus, making them open the doors and climbing aboard in full riot gear, indiscriminately hitting those seated inside and smashing windows after breaking down the back door as well.
“The Curva Nord Bergamo wants to remind everyone the work done over the years to avoid this sort of situation, where thanks to the chaos of the past, entirely pointless clashes broke out with the police.
“WE WANT THE TRUTH on what happened yesterday on that road. The Atalanta fans had no reason to cause trouble, so something in the organisation of the police did not work.”
Another statement from one of the other ultras groups claimed all 3,000 fans were then ordered to get out of their buses, photographed, insulted and searched, with no dangerous objects found.
“They were clearly trying to get us to react so they could start really pounding on us, but we kept calm and saw through it.”
There were also pictures of fans with blood coming from head wounds.

18 ‘Everton fans’ hunted by cops following violent clashes with Millwall supporters before FA Cup tie that saw one fan slashed across the - 28/02/2019
Source : https://www.thesun.co.uk/
Police are seeking 18 men in connection with a brawl between Everton and Millwall fans, where a man was slashed across the face
POLICE have released pictures of 18 'Everton fans' wanted in connection with the violent clashes with Millwall supporters in January - where a man was slashed across the face.
Shocking footage showed two groups of rival yobs trading punches outside Surrey Quays station in South East London, just one mile from Millwall’s stadium.
Officers described the brawls before and after the game as “some of the worst football violence we have witnesses for some time”.
Everton fan Jay Burns said he “can’t look in the mirror” after he was knifed in the face before the fourth-round match on January 26.
The Metropolitan Police has now released photographs of 18 fans – believed to be supporters of the Merseyside club - wanted in connection with the brawl.
It comes just two weeks after cops released pictures of 12 men they believed are connected to the ugly scuffles.
Trouble between fans started in the Hawkstone Road area of Southwark, near Millwall's stadium The Den.
A police officer was among the injured and the Met said a number of coaches carrying Everton fans were damaged.
The match, which Millwall won 3-2, was also marred by allegations of racist chanting.
Detective Sergeant Matt Simpson from the Met’s Public Order Investigation Team, said: “We are working closely with Merseyside Police to identify the individuals in these pictures, who we believe to be Everton fans and I would urge anyone who recognises an individual to get in touch.
“We had an excellent response from the public when we issued the first set of images two weeks ago and I would now like to appeal again for the public’s assistance in identifying these individuals, who we believe were involved in unacceptable disorder before, during and after the game.
“This was some of the worst football violence we have witnessed for some time, leaving one man with a life-changing injury to his face.”
