Nine arrests were made during the day for offences of assault, disorder and drunkenness, including one person arrested for going on to the pitch at St James' Park. A further group were arrested after the game when a large number of Newcastle United fans gathered outside the city's Central Station with the intention of attacking Sunderland fans and officers, Northumbria Police said. Chief Superintendent Neil Mackay said: "The overwhelming majority of fans were well-behaved and wanted nothing more than to attend the match free from the fear of violence, disorder or other crime. "Despite this and our warnings about the penalties that awaited trouble-makers, there were still some willing to risk their freedom by trying to spoil the day for others." Mr Mackay continued: "I wish to apologise for the inconvenience caused to decent members of the public when dealing with the idiots gathered outside Central Station intent on attacking Sunderland fans and police officers." 35 AZ boys made the trip to Sparta who wanted their first fight after most of the firm was banned for 2 years. AZ boys waited in a pub near the ground and Sparta came with 25. A good fair toe-to-toe started for 2 minutes. At the end Sparta was backed off and victory for AZ . Respect for Sparta boys who did what they had to do. Fair clean fight between both firms as it should.

| Inverness CT - Celtic - 01/02/2009
Source : Inverness Courier
Celtic fans banned after sectarian chants
THREE Celtic supporters were arrested for allegedly taking part in sectarian chants and songs during Sunday's SPL match against Caley Thistle at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.
Superintendent Andy Cowie, Northern Constabulary's East divisional commander, said: "As we did in the case of a supporter who was charged with a similar offence earlier in the year when Caley Thistle played Rangers, we will be applying for football banning orders for these individuals."
He said the decision to ban the three fans from future matches would send out a clear message to other supporters about what kind of behaviour would not be tolerated by the police.
Just over 7000 fans attended Sunday's 0-0 draw against Celtic which ended Caley Thistle's eight-game losing streak. It was the Inverness club's first game under new manager Terry Butcher.
Superintendent Cowie said that although 10 arrests were made, most fans had responded well to the face-to-face style of policing.
Caley Thistle Supporters' Trust did not wish to comment.

The Police controlled before the game a mini-bus of River's fans. They found drugs and two guns. This control was a part of the the security plan set up for the derby Boca/River.
But this bus has not been delayed and nobody was arrested, as it was "impossible to know who was owning the guns and the drugs".

| Club backs banned fans - 06/02/2009
Source : Manchester Evening News
A FOOTBALL club is giving ÂŁ20,000 to help fund a legal challenge by fans against police who rounded them up and sent them home before their team's game at United.
Stoke City have offered to pay the money towards costs incurred by 80 supporters who were ordered back to Staffordshire by Greater Manchester Police. GMP has apologised to six of the supporters for branding them hooligans and sending them home.
It has also offered to repay the cost of their match tickets.
But the force won't apologise to the rest of the fans, saying they were bent on trouble when they met at the Railway pub, in Irlam, before the game in November.
The supporters say they spent up to four hours confined to their coaches, and were not even allowed off to use toilets. The force has promised to review how it uses powers to move on alcohol-fuelled trouble-makers.
The fans, backed by the human rights group Liberty, want a judicial review of the police's `illegal' action.
Liberty is using the experience of one supporter, Lyndon Edwards, as a test case.
Stoke City's chief executive Tony Scholes said: "We thought the police's actions were wrong and thought it was only right to back one of our supporters who was challenging those actions."
Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters' Federation , and a Stoke fan, said: "This is a superb gesture. I've never known a club to act like this in support of fans. A police apology is all very well but what we want is recognition that what they did was unlawful."
Police served Section 27 orders on fans, saying they acted on intelligence about violence planned between rival hooligans.
The 2006 Violent Crime Reduction Act lets officers ban people from an area for up to 48 hours if they fear there may be alcohol-related violence.
Assistant Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: "Further to the apologies that we sent to a small number of people we have since been contacted by Liberty.
"As this correspondence is ongoing and of a legal nature, it would be inappropriate to comment. We have commissioned a review of our use of Section 27 in order to ensure that we use it only when it is necessary and proportionate."

| Millwall match thug banned from all games - 05/02/2009
Source : Hull Daily Mail
A lifelong Tigers fan who was involved in violence at Hull City's game against Millwall has been banned from all English football stadiums for three years.
John Routh, 42, of Acacia Drive, east Hull, is among the first of the hooligans who caused trouble at the FA Cup fixture to be dealt with by the courts.
Routh has followed City all his life and he travelled to Wembley to see his side win promotion to the Premier League.
The painter and decorator talked to the Mail about his thoughts on the Tigers at Wembley and posed for photographs at a pub near the London stadium last May.
However, he will now be prevented from attending all football stadiums in the country for the next three seasons, after being caught fighting outside the KC Stadium on January 24.
Hull Magistrates' Court heard Routh was part a group of about 20 people throwing punches at a rival fan.
He then tried to enter the stadium, "staggering" around drunk.
Routh pleaded guilty to a public order offence and, defending himself, told magistrates: "I was walking to the stands and I was attacked by Millwall fans and I just defended myself.
"I'd had about four pints, but I was not drunk. I may have appeared that way because I was punched in the face twice."
Asked by the magistrates if he thought his behaviour was appropriate, Routh replied: "No."
Routh was also fined ÂŁ78 and ordered to pay ÂŁ75 costs.
Adam Barton, 18, of Lucian Walk, west Hull, pleaded guilty yesterday to a section five disorder and was banned for three years.
The court heard Barton was caught near the KC Stadium's North Stand – where the away fans were – being aggressive towards Millwall supporters before the match.
He was given a warning, but police arrested him after he failed to calm down.
Unemployed Barton was also fined ÂŁ35 and ordered to pay ÂŁ75 costs.
Millwall fan Jon Coleman, 40, of Burns Avenue, Sidcup, Kent, also appeared before Hull magistrates and was prosecuted for trying to enter a stadium while drunk.
Magistrates refused to impose the banning order requested by police because he was not violent. He was given a ÂŁ100 fine and ordered to pay ÂŁ75 in costs.
Officers working as part of Operation Thunder are busy gathering evidence against individuals who will next be identified then arrested.
Chief Inspector Darren Downs, who is jointly leading the investigation, said: "This is a warning to other individuals who were involved – it won't be long before they find themselves in the same court, facing the same punishment."

| Police plan to net hooligans in airport football operation - 04/02/2009
Source : Avon and Somerset Constabulary
Police kick off a beat-the-hooligan operation at Bristol International Airport next week, ahead of England's friendly game in Spain.
The match takes place in Seville on Wednesday February 11. The aim of the operation is to stop those with a potential to cause violence and disorder from travelling and to reassure other passengers.
Police will also be targeting flights to countries, other than Spain, where fans might gather ahead of the game.
Backing up the airport operation, the 50 people who have football banning orders in the Avon and Somerset police force area will be required to surrender their passports to the police. They will also be required to report to their local police station on the day of the match.
Anyone that fails to return their passport to police will be identified and arrested by police, under the conditions of their banning orders.
During the past 12 months Avon and Somerset police have run successful operations in conjunction with the airport to prevent potential troublemakers from flying out of the country.
Those who have been issued with football banning orders are prohibited from travelling out of the country when England have matches abroad.
A football banning order prevents attendance at any regulated match for a period of between three and five years – if the individual is not subjected to a custodial sentence. For those who are imprisoned, the banning order extends to a period of between six and 10 years. Other conditions requested on a FBO may include exclusion zones around stadia before and after home fixtures, a day-long ban on travel to towns and cities, where away matches are being played.
Police in Avon and Somerset work in close partnership with other forces, the Home Office and the United Kingdom Football Policing Unit, who publish lists of those with football banning orders who have failed to surrender their passports and who may try to fly out of the UK using an airport outside the area, where they live.
Around 200 identified supporters flew from Bristol International Airport earlier this year for England's world cup qualifying matches in Barcelona (the Andorra game) and Croatia. Just three people were stopped by officers for further enquiries before being allowed to continue their journey.
Force Football Officer Roger Thayer confirmed: "We have well-rehearsed plans, which we roll out for England's away matches. This helps to provide reassurance to genuine fans travelling to support their national team, as well as others flying from the airport.
"We currently have 50 football banning orders operating in the police force area and all in receipt of them will be expected to surrender their passports if held, to their local police station by 10pm on Saturday February 7 ahead of the match in Spain next week.
"For this operation, we will also be checking passengers who may be travelling to watch the Wales v Poland match being played in Portugal on the same night.
The operations at BIA form part of a national ports operation to ensure that fans subject to football banning orders do not try to leave the country. The aim is to prevent potential troublemakers from travelling abroad to cause violence and disorder in cities, where England matches are being played.
It also provides reassurance to other passengers who are flying from Bristol International Airport.

| UK : Hooligan warning ahead of match - 07/02/2009
Source : BBC News
Police are warning that troublesome behaviour will not be tolerated at a South Yorkshire derby match which is being held later.
At last April's derby match between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, 17 football hooligans were arrested for disorderly behaviour.
Police said 10 of those arrested received football banning orders.
Warning notices have been sent out to known hooligans ahead of the match at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Supt Martin Scothern said: "We take a tough approach towards people involved in football-related disorder at both venues in the city, and troublemakers will be brought to justice."
Safety 'paramount'
At the last match, Sheffield Wednesday fans were pelted by coins and other missiles from United fans in the stand above.
Police said they hoped extra precautions would keep arrests to a minimum.
Supt Scothern said: "The safety of fans and providing reassurance to those living near the grounds and the wider public in Sheffield is paramount.
"We will be making sure there is minimum disruption before and after the game and that everyone enters and leaves the stadium safely."

| Major racist incidents in European football - 07/02/2009Source : The Associated Press A list of some of the major incidents of racism in football throughout Europe over the last five years._April 2004: Former Manchester United coach Ron Atkinson resigns from television channel ITV after being caught making a racist comment on the air about Chelsea's Marcel Desailly, who is black. The move backfires as racist elements among PSG's crowd in the Kop of Boulogne sing "Come on the whites." The racist overtone is backed up with monkey chants from the Boulogne crowd when Lens players touch the ball. France midfielder Patrick Vieira, present in the crowd that night, vows not to set foot in Parc des Princes again. _February 2005: Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o is racially abused at a match in Zaragoza, where fans make monkey chants and throw peanuts onto the pitch when the Cameroon star gets the ball. The "Kebe" affair eventually leads to Bastia being docked points — a rarity. _February 2008: Morocco defender Abdeslam Ouaddou of Valenciennes climbs into the stands at Metz to confront a fan racially abusing him. The match referee shows Ouaddou a yellow card for unsportsmanlike behavior. The French soccer league (LFP) calls for harsher sanctions against racism. _April and May 2008: PSG fans racially abuse black passers by and attack an Arab man at a Paris metro station before both the League Cup final against Lens and the French Cup final against Lyon. Zenit goes on to win the UEFA Cup. _September 2008: Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell, who is black, is abused by Tottenham supporters, whose insults include the image of Campbell "hanging from a tree." In January, four of the fans involved are banned from attending football matches for three years after pleading guilty to indecent chanting. _November 2008: Playing for Middlesbrough against Newcastle, the Egyptian forward Mido is subjected to Islamophobic chanting from a small number of Newcastle fans. Mido had been subjected to similar chants the previous year, again from Newcastle fans. _January 2009: Spain's football federation fines Real Madrid about $3,900 after a group of fans makes fascist gestures and chants fascist slogans at a match.
