Exclusion order to Eintracht fans in Marseille
An exclusion order on Eintracht Frankfurt supporters has been issued by the relevant authorities ahead of the Eagles’ UEFA Europa League game against Olympique Marseille. The ban applies to the entire metropolitan area of Marseille and is valid from 8am to midnight on Thursday 20 September.
Eintracht board criticise decision
“A total ban on entry into the city for our supporters is a completely unreasonable and legally highly questionable – if not illegal – intrusion on individual rights,” criticised Eintracht board member Axel Hellmann. “Our fans don’t want to go to Marseille to cause trouble, but to accompany the team through Europe and at least be in the same city even if they’re not allowed in the stadium. Everyone’s been looking forward to this trip since 19 May and nobody should take that away from them.”
Violation of the exclusion order could result in imprisonment and/or heavy fines. “This sanction places our fans under general suspicion, which we clearly disagree with,” continued Hellmann. “It’s becoming abundantly clear that urgent action is needed by UEFA with regards to the practice of collective punishments. We have been excluded not just from a match, but from an entire city for something we weren’t involved in at all. That cannot continue.”

Two Chelsea fans attacked in Greece ahead of Europa League tie
Police say the two Englishmen were beaten by three assailants in central Thessaloniki shortly before dawn Thursday.
An ambulance crew provided first aid but the men declined to be taken to hospital.
The three assailants escaped and police said the Chelsea fans did not wish to press charges.
Chelsea had advised fans not to attend the game following advice from Greek police.
A club statement said: "We are grateful to the Greek authorities for making us aware of their stipulations well in advance of the game but we strongly advise that this match will not be appropriate for all of our supporters to attend."
Supporters were also told not to travel to the match alone and instead use coaches from the city centre to and from Toumba Stadium.
Fans were also advised not to wear Chelsea colours at the airport, outside of the stadium or around the city of Thessaloniki.
The club asked supporters to "carefully consider" the advice before purchasing tickets to the match, which was made exempt from the UEFA away ticket scheme.

Police investigate Lyon supporter's Nazi salute at Manchester City - 20/09/2018
Source : https://www.bbc.com/
Police say they are investigating an "abhorrent hate crime" after a Lyon fan appeared to give a Nazi salute during the team's Champions League win at Manchester City.
The French club have vowed to ban the supporter for life.
Chief Inspector Gareth Parkin, of Greater Manchester police, condemned the fan's gesture.
"This is absolutely abhorrent behaviour and it has no place in our community, and no place in sport," he said.
"We are committed to policing racism at football matches, and hate crimes of any sort will simply not be tolerated."
He said officers were working with their French colleagues to identify the offender.
Lyon beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in Wednesday's Champions League Group F opener.
The gesture was caught on video and shared on social media, where it attracted widespread condemnation.
The club responded by saying it had seen the video and was working to identify the supporter.
"As soon as he is identified, he will be excluded for life," Lyon said in a statement.
Police say they are also investigating reports of fighting between fans near City's Etihad Stadium.
Footage on social media showed around 20 supporters clashing in the street outside a shop.

Bayern fans clash with Lisbon police
Bayern Munich’s hard-fought 2-0 victory over Benfica in the Champions League was a reason to celebrate for most fans of Die Roten. Unfortunately, however, some Bayern supporters may have taken their jubilation to the extreme; at least in the eyes of local police.
Per a report by AZ, the behavior of Bayern fans was so raucous that Lisbon police were deployed and had to use their batons to diffuse the situation.

Lyon appeal after UEFA upholds UCL stadium ban - 22/09/2018
Source : https://www.sport24.co.za/
Lyon reacted to a UEFA ruling on Friday that they must play their next Champions League match behind closed doors by saying they would appeal again, this time to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The punishment was originally handed down in August following scenes of mob violence ahead of a Europa League home game against CSKA Moscow in March.
Lyon appealed to UEFA in August, but on Friday the governing body of European football announced that they had upheld the punishment, which also includes a second match behind closed doors if there is further trouble and a €100 000 fine.
Lyon said it would carry on the fight through CAS.
"The club regrets that UEFA did not take into account that the events occurred outside the stadium and that in France clubs are not allowed to intervene in public spaces which are under the responsibility of the civil authorities," the club said in a statement.
Lyon lead Champions League Group F after opening their campaign with a surprise victory at Manchester City on Wednesday. Next, they face Shakhtar Donetsk at Parc OL stadium on October 2.
The punishment stems from a Europa League game in March. Before the game, a group of 100 hooded black-clad fans pelted police. Lyon then lost the match and were eliminated from the competition. One man was later sentenced to 18 months in jail and others receive suspended sentences.
The club said in their statement "that following the match against CSKA Moscow, nine individuals involved in the incidents were sentenced thanks to the sophisticated surveillance system" at the stadium.
The club added that they were cooperating with police in Manchester after a Lyon fan was caught on film giving a Nazi salute at the Etihad Stadium.
"OL has decided to acknowledge events at the Etihad Stadium to ban for life the individual concerned and to file a criminal complaint against him," concluded their statement.
