Polish football hooligans sentenced in Sweden - 01/09/2015

Source : http://www.supersport.com/

A Swedish court sentenced five Polish football fans to jail terms of two and three months on Tuesday after violence following a match between IFK Gothenburg and Slask Wroclaw.

The violence occurred on July 23rd both before and after a Europa Leauge qualifier in several locations in Gothenburg in western Sweden.

Five men attacked a downtown pub with “smoke bombs, bottles and other objects”, caused extensive damage inside and assaulted police officers, the Gothenburg court said.

The five denied involvement although they were filmed by bystanders and witnesses. Two of them were sentenced to two months while three others got an additional month.

They will have to pay compensation for damages caused.

Slask Wroclaw was eliminated in the second preliminary match of the Europa League losing the match 2-0.

A total of 33 supporters were initially arrested, but only five were charged.

Argentina : Boca Juniors fans get ban after River Plate incident - 01/09/2015

Source : http://www.espnfc.com

Boca Juniors supporter Adrian Panadero Napolitano was processed on Tuesday with restrictive orders due to his involvement in an incident this past May when their Copa Libertadores match against River Plate turned violent.

Judge Wilma Lopez sentenced a total of four fans after they apparently cut an opening in a tunnel put up to protect players as they entered the field and filled it with pepper spray or mace to spray at their opponents.

River players stumbled onto the field to start the second half of the scoreless match covering their faces, rubbing their eyes and dousing themselves with bottles of water.

The players then huddled together at the center of Boca's compact La Bombonera stadium, seeking refuge alongside police and officials who waited more than an hour before suspending the game.

The four fans will potentially be completely banned from the stadium and any other location at which Boca Juniors matches can be viewed.

Following the incident, Boca Juniors was expelled from Copa Libertadores and ordered to play their next four continental home games behind closed doors. The club may have no traveling supporters at their next four continental away games, and must pay a $200,000 fine.

Gibraltar - Ireland - 04/09/2015

Source : http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/

Republic of Ireland football fans have spoken of their terror following an alleged attack by Portuguese police in Albufeira on Wednesday night.

Nearly 3,000 Ireland fans are expected to make the trip to the Algarve to see Martin O’Neill’s men take on Gibraltar in the European Championship Group D qualifier in Faro on Friday night.

And while there has been a good-humoured, party atmosphere in sun-drenched Albufeira, where the majority of supporters are staying, some Republic fans have expressed their anger after an alleged unprovoked attack by baton-wielding police.

“We came out of pub and we were standing on the strip. There were a loads of Ireland fans on either side of the road singing back and forward to each other,” said Ireland fan James, who showed Independent.ie wounds to his arm and ear after the incident.

“The police came up to move fans. They were grabbing women and throwing them, they started pushing everyone. I saw one lad who was pushed and he fell and he just missed a pole. Then all went quiet for about 10 minutes.

“Something must have happened up the road because the police just charged at everyone. We put our hands up to say we didn’t want any trouble. I got a baton into the leg, another friend was hit in the waist and another in the arm.

“I fell and got hit on the back. I ran and a cop chased me down the road and cracked me on the back of the legs again. I went down with my hands on my head and an Irish guy came and dragged me away.

"I lost my shoe in the whole episode and when I was putting it back on another cop hit me across the head. I am going to the doctor today to get it seen to.

“I was separated from my friends and a few other Irish looked after me.  I could see two or three lads lying on the path.

“We were literally just standing there talking. We didn’t even have our voices left to sing before the police attacked. It was extremely heavy handed stuff.”

A spokesperson for the FAI told Independent.ie that it had sold 2,600 tickets to Irish fans for the match against Gibraltar but had not heard of any altercation on the main strip.

Portuguese police were unavailable for comment when Independent.ie tried to contact them earlier today.

Other fans took to Twitter to express their anger.

"Albufeira police are the worst I've ever seen. clubbing innocent girls in the face for sending texts because they thought they were videos," wrote @GalwayGambler.

"Have honestly never seen anything like I saw tonight. Absolutely battering innocent bystanders. These guys are less than nothing IMO.

"Nothing will happen because it's a closed shop over here but these pricks deserve jail time. Scum of the highest order."

Football Hooligans Clash With Police In Budapest’s City Center Ahead Of Hungary Match Against Romania

Seeking a chance to fight with visiting Romania fans, a violent group of hard-core Hungarian football hooligans gathered and clashed with the police in Budapest’s city center last night. The police said on Friday morning that sixteen have been detained for truculence and vandalism and one additional fan was arrested for pushing over a police officer. The rambunctious hooligans threw petards, knocked over bins and damaged several cars parking on the streets.

Hungarian football ultras attack refugees at Budapest train station.

THIS EVENING IN Budapest, Hungary host Romania in a key Euro 2016 qualifier.

A local derby, it was always going to be an intense and possibly troublesome fixture but given the recent events in the country’s capital city, there’s been an inevitable occurrence before a ball has even been kicked.

According to local reports, Hungarian football ultras have clashed with refugees based at the Keleti train station with some speculating fireworks and smoke bombs were thrown at the large group camped in and around the depot. The refugees retaliated before riot police escorted the hooligans away from the main entrance.

There were some injuries with reports that one young man sustained a head injury and was brought to an ambulance.

Many expected some ugly scenes given the comments made by Hungarian Prime Minister Vikto Orbán in recent days in which he dismissed the response from some European countries to the refugee crisis as ‘madness’.

The worry now is if more violent scenes will take place after this evening’s game, especially should the home side suffer defeat.

A policeman was injured when dozens of rival fans clashed in Budapest on Thursday night before the Euro 2016 Group F qualifier between Danube neighbours Hungary and Romania on Friday, police said.

Several police vehicles were damaged and 18 people were arrested, a police official told a news conference.

“Sixteen of them face charges for vandalism and two for assault on a police officer.”

Tickets for the Danube derby, as matches between Hungary and Romania are known, sold out in less than an hour. The match will be played at the 22,000-capacity Groupama Arena in Budapest.

The fixture has a long history of crowd violence and arrests have been rife in recent years.

A Romanian fan was detained just before leaving Bucharest for Hungary on Thursday for possessing 126 flares in the back of his car, Romanian police said.

Romanian fans fought at each others before the kick-off.

England : Police hunt three men over brutal attack on Manchester City fan at Piccadilly station - 04/09/2015

Source : http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/

Police hunting a gang of hooligans who attacked a Manchester City supporter at a train station have released images of three men they are seeking.

The men are wanted over an attack in which the lone Blues fan was kicked and punched following an argument at Piccadilly railway station.

The incident happened on platforms 13 and 14 at about 8.10pm on Saturday, August 29, and police say it was lucky no-one else was hurt.

Police say a group of Preston North End fans, whose team has lost 2-0 at Hull earlier in the day, had been goading the City fan, whose team had beaten Watford by the same score-line at the Etihad stadium.

PC David Cawley, of British Transport Police, said: “A group of Preston North End football fans had been arguing with a Manchester City supporter when the verbal goading quickly escalated into violence which resulted in the lone Manchester City supporter being repeatedly kicked and punched.

“This violence took place on a busy platform on a Saturday night causing fear, alarm and distress to fellow passengers who were waiting for their train and were caught up in the frightening incident.

“In fact many had to move away so they were not harmed. Platforms 13 and 14 are satellite platforms with trains passing on either side increasing the danger to these innocent bystanders.

“The offenders boarded a TransPennine Express service to Preston which left Manchester Piccadilly at around 8.30pm, having been delayed due to the incident.”

Officers believe the men in the images could have vital information about what happened and urge them or anyone who recognises them to come forward to help police with their enquiries.

He added that a press conference will be held later today regarding the incident.

Football hooligans trash couple's wedding reception at a French chateau to get back at rival team's gang - then realise they targeted the wrong venue - 10/09/2015

Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/

Bungling football hooligans wielding baseball bats trashed a couple's wedding reception in France after mistaking the celebration for the leader of a rival gang.

Supporters of French side Saint Etienne destroyed the buffet and the wedding cake as they rampaged through Chateau de Talance in Denice in the east of the country.

They also smashed plates, broke glasses and ripped up tables while terrifying catering staff.

It came as the couple who were set to enjoy their reception at the venue were saying their vows at a nearby church in front of 300 guests.

However, it has since emerged that the thugs smashed up the wrong wedding after their intended target, a gang leader with Olympique Lyonnais Football Club - was getting married five miles .

Catering staff who were forced to take refuge while the hooligans ran amok, later spoke of how they thought they were in the midst of a terror attack.

One caterer said: 'It was a real commando operation.

'Everything was going through our heads when it happened. We even thought it might be terrorists.

'They smashed everything. The staff were traumatised.

'A van that we did not recognise came to the chateau and around a dozen hooded individuals got out.

'When they reached the esplanade, where the reception was due to take place, they threw green smoke bombs and smashed up the buffet with bars and bats.'

Meanwhile five miles away, the wedding of the intended target went ahead without incident, although fellow Lyon supporters stood guard outside the venue.

Police are now investigation and a spokesman said: 'It was an extremely violent attack on an innocent couple's day.

The video clip, which was uploaded to YouTube, appears to show fans of Oldham Athletic hurling the projectiles at the Bradford City FC coach.

Six youths are seen outside a car park and heard shouting vile language and then chasing the coach, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The yobs are also seen throwing at least four stones at its windows along the A663 Broadway main road, close to Oldham's Boundary Park ground.

Dutch police to erect wall of steel ahead of Celtic's clash with Ajax in bid to avoid repeat of 2013 Dam Square riots - 11/09/2015

Source : http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/

IT follows the violent scenes when the two sides last clashed in Amsterdam two years ago which saw eight policemen injured and 50 Hoops fans arrested.

DUTCH police have vowed to erect a wall of steel around Dam Square ahead of Celtic’s Europa League clash with Ajax.

Authorities are desperate to avoid a repeat of violent clashes that erupted at the Amsterdam landmark last time the two clubs met.

Bedlam broke out in November 2013 when Celtic supporters retaliated after being attacked by Dutch casuals and undercover officers.

Eight policemen were injured and almost 50 Hoops fans arrested, with five convicted of disorder offences.

This time around a cordon with access only for Celtic supporters is expected to be set up at Dam Square.

There will be restrictions on alcohol and fans have also been ordered to carry photographic ID at all times.

Visiting fans have also been warned not to carry flags for other Dutch clubs, and told they won’t get into the Amsterdam ArenA for the game if too drunk.

Advice issued to travelling support states: “Amsterdam Police have advised that Dam Square is the preferred area for Celtic Fans to congregate on the day of the match.

“In an effort to provide increased protection it is planned that the Square will be cordoned off and there will be controlled access to ensure the area is occupied by Celtic Supporters only.

“Police have further advised that the sale and consumption of alcohol will be controlled around the Square and supporters should follow the guidance of Police at all times.

“To assist with language issues there will be a presence of Celtic Travel Stewards within the Square as well as a presence from Police Scotland.

“All efforts will be made to ensure that Police and Fans work together in a spirit of cooperation. The aim is to ensure that everyone enjoys the day.”

A spokesman for Eberhard van der Laan, the Mayor of Amsterdam, added: “A fence on Dam Square is certainly a viable proposition and obviously reduces the risk of fans causing trouble.”

The Mayor blamed the trouble that erupted before the Champions League fixture two years ago on Ajax hooligans who also targeted travelling fans in a bar on the eve of the game.

A report said the Dam Square rioting came after three of the Dutch club’s fans stole a flag from Celtic supporters.

Fans of the Parkhead club were repeatedly ambushed by Ajax casuals with sickening videos appearing on the internet afterwards.

An organised gang could be seen throwing missiles and jeering, before riot police and plain-clothes officers were deployed.

Dutch police were accused of heavy-handed tactics after wading in with dogs and horses.

The night before, Celtic fans in Amsterdam’s Old Sailor pub were besieged by masked thugs with pickaxe handles.

In the days after the match Damian Dobbin, 23, Thomas Kennedy, 30, Jozef Macpherson, 20, Andrew Vance, 21, and 28-year-old Padraig Mullan were found guilty of attacking police.

John Quigley, 49, from Kilmarnock, was acquitted of all charges at a district court in Amsterdam.

But Celtic fans have always maintained they only acted in self defence.

Even a group of Ajax fans have condemned the police’s behaviour, accusing them of “excessive violence”.

Around 3,000 Celtic fans are expected to make the trip on Thursday - half the number who travelled last time.
