Belgium - Lithuania - 04/09/04

Source: mail

Last night the game Belgium-Lithuania was played in Charleroi....This game was interesting as during the last Netherlands-Belgium game, some (5) Charleroi lads joined their PSV friends, attacking Belgians lads who were present (mainly FC Liège and FC Brussels).
After these events, many rumours announced a 'belgian punishment squad' for the Lithuania game....If all firms were angry about CH-lads some days before the game, only Liège and Brussels lads announce their venue.
So, locals met up in a pub with approx 40 lads waiting for the coalition....Before the game we looked for them...No one were seen...The only scuffles erutped when 60/80 Lithuania drunken ultras (all fascists) rioted with police forces, but nothing special.
After the game, locals looked another time for Liège and Brussels lads....Still the same story. Finally, a local received a phonecall from a Liège lad who said they knew CH-lads will be at a party during the night and they will come with 30 to have an off.....For now, no news of this....Just bollocks it seems....
It must be noticed Liège and Brussels lads are present on ALL belgian games (the ones only interested about this team in fact) but now, they weren't there....

Greece - Albania - 04/09/04

Source: Reuters

One man has died and seven have been injured in clashes between Greek and Albanian fans in Greece following the World Cup qualifier game played between the two countries in Tirana, police say.

Albania stunned Euro 2004 winners Greece with two goals in the first 10 minutes and held on to win 2-1, sending their fans into a frenzy as they celebrated with fireworks.

On the island of Zakynthos, a Greek-American attacked three Albanians with a knife after the match was over, killing one and injuring two others, police said on Sunday.

In Athens, four Albanians and one Greek were knifed in street fights and taken to hospital, police added.

A number of skirmishes, that flared up in the centre of the Greek capital on Saturday night, had to be broken up by police. Albanians are the single largest immigrant group in Greece.

Greek and Albanian soccer fans fought across the country, and Athens police fired tear gas to disperse crowds following a loss by European champion Greece in a World Cup qualifier.

A Greek-American man was arrested early Sunday, accused of stabbing to death an Albanian man and critically injuring two others.

The stabbing came hours after host Albania upset Greece 2-1 in Tirana on Saturday. Violence also was reported in the Greek northern port city of Thessaloniki, but no arrests were made. Minor clashes occurred in various parts of the country until morning.

"The government condemns unequivocally and in the most absolute way the acts of violence that took place in the sidelines of the game," government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos said. "Acts of violence are foreign to the spirit of sports."

Panagiotis Kladis-Xifitas, 22, of Chicago, is suspected of stabbing to death a 20-year-old Albanian on the Ionian island of Zakynthos. Two more Albanians were hospitalized with knife wounds.

In Athens, police used tear gas to break up hundreds of fans descending on the city's center. At least two cars driven by Albanians and heading to Omonia Square for celebrations were attacked by a group of Greeks, causing serious damage. Several riot police squads were deployed to prevent further violence.

In Albania, home fans wearing red-and-black T-shirts and carrying national flags celebrated at Tirana's main Skanderbeg Square after the game, honking car horns and setting off firecrackers.

The game was played under tight security. Police had increased patrols on national roads and had barred parked cars near Qemal Stafa stadium. Cameras monitored access routes to the stadium, and fans were searched before entering.

AS Roma - Dinamo Kiev - 14/09/04

Source: Reuters

AS Roma are facing severe penalties from UEFA after their opening Champions League Group B match against Dynamo Kiev was abandoned on Wednesday when referee Anders Frisk was felled by an object thrown from the crowd.

UEFA's disciplinary committee will meet on Thursday to examine the match delegate's report and also Frisk's report of the incident.

Most of the members of that committee are in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia for a scheduled executive committee meeting.

UEFA spokesman William Gaillard, told Reuters by telephone from Sofia: 'We deplore what has happened and will wait for the match delegate's report as well as the referee's own report of the incident.

'This is the first time in many years that a European match has been stopped for such an incident - sometimes there have been electrical failures with floodlights of course, but this is something far worse.'

TV pictures showed Frisk bending to his knees as blood poured from a wound in the middle of his forehead after he was struck by what appeared to be a cigarette lighter at the end of the first half, moments after sending off Roma's French defender Philippe Mexes for kicking Kiev striker Maris Verpakovskis.

Frisk needed medical attention to the wound, and after a 40 minute delay, it was announced over the Olympic Stadium loudspeaker the match was being abandoned.

'The referee decided to suspend the match first because he was seriously hurt, and second because he says that his safety - and the safety of his assistants and the fourth man - cannot be guaranteed,' a UEFA official told reporters.

Television pictures showed a bearded fan in a black t-shirt throwing an object towards the referee, but it was unclear whether that was the object that hit the 41-year-old Swede.

The incident began when Frisk sent off Mexes shortly after blowing the whistle for halftime.

While players and officials remonstrated, Frisk was struck as he made his way off the field to the tunnel and changing rooms.

At the end of the first half Dynamo led the hosts 1-0 thanks to a 29th-minute free kick by defender Goran Gavrancic.

Rome's Olympic Stadium already held unpleasant memories for Frisk.

In March 2002 he refereed Roma's Champions League match against Galatasaray, which degenerated into a brawl involving players and officials from both sides shortly after the final whistle.

On that occasion Roma captain Francesco Totti received a three-match ban, while striker Gabriel Batistuta and team coach Fabio Capello were punished with one and two-match bans respectively.

The consequences this time round could be more severe and include a stadium ban.

Wednesday's incident highlights the continuing problem of violence in Italian stadiums.

Last season Roma and Lazio fans clashed with police outside the Olympic Stadium after the city derby was suspended by a false rumour that a child had been killed by a police car.

A year ago a fan fell to his death as rioting fans spilled onto the pitch before a fixture between Serie B sides Napoli and Avellino.

FC Utrecht - Djurgarden IF - 16/09/04

Source: ITK - DIF view

We were about 150 fans in the pub on the pics before the game. 30-40 DFG I would say. Disappointment number-wise. Utrecht sneaking around the pub for hours. We (5 gentlemen) also took a stroll down to where Utrecht were sitting to have a look. Some big f-ckers, but also lot of "kids".

And then it all happened quickly at our pub, Utrecht attacking from at least two, perhaps three different directions. About 50 Djurgården out of the pub, fighting back. The only real encounter I know of between the groups in an aley right beside the pub, 10 to 10. One or two Utrecht going down. One of us hit as well. Apart from that just too much OB surrounding the pub. Bricks flying at us, and some kind of very nasty fire-crackers (shock-grenades?) Any Utrecht can surely telll us.

All in all, we did pretty much alll we could do (given our low numbers...) and were also asked to do. Utrecht told us to sit in the centre a couple of hours before the game. We came to town around three-o-clock, walked 50-60 handed (we have some scarfers and "normal" fans that followed us in from A-dam) to the pub, about a 10 minute walk. We had only two police following us at this stage, and had Utrecht been prepared so early in the day it could have been a different story. But I absolutely understand that it is difficult to have numbers out so early on a normal working day.

Utrecht also did their best, given the circumstances. I don't know how many they were that attacked the pub, but fair play and a good attempt and all of that.

Source: rus-hool.narod.ru + Zenit website

Zenit hooligans thought a lot about: fight or not to fight with serbs hooligans from Delije.Everybody decided not to have troubles with slavs brothers, and only one firm -Coalition decided to have them with CZ hooligans. When CZ fans came out from the bus and went to the stadium,Coalition attacked them, but the special police-OMON stopped the incident very fast.It was the first and last fight between Zenit and Crvena Zvezda hooligans. In the sector of Zenit hools was burned the flag of Albania. Then they hang out the banner:"Russian and Serb-brothers forever! Kosovo is Serbia!".After the game the atmosphere between Zenit and CZ fans was very friendly...

AJ Auxerre - FC Metz - 19/09/2004

Source: forums

Thirteen Metz fans, most of them from the Faction group, made the trip to Auxerre with the aim to have an off.
They arrived just in front of the local stand where approx 20/25 locals (mainly from ex-Rude Boys + independents) were there. Immediately french CRS charged visitors.

Racing de Cordoba - Belgrano Cordoba - 19/09/04

Source: yahoo.com.ar

After Belgrano lost to Racing de Córdoba in a B Division game at one of the 1978 World Cup Stadiums (Chateu Carreras), Belgrano barrabravas tried to attack opposing fans. The 600-strong police was able to intercept “Los Piratas” before they were able to reach the other side of the stadium. The battle then started with police throughout 10 city blocks.
By the time Racing de Cordoba fans “Los Legendarios” and “Vapor de Alcohol” found out they were being sought (already in buses), Belgrano fans were already retreating to the police offensive. There was no actual confrontation between both sides.
20 cars and 3 buses were damaged from being pelted with stones and other objects. All sorts of missiles were hurled at police and at Racing de Cordoba fans leaving the venue.
3 police were hospitalizad and many Belgrano hools were taken to the hospital with concussions. The police responded to the violence with teargas and by firing rubber bullets into the crowds. The fans had no other option but to stand their ground and pelt whoever with stones. 8 fans were ultimately arrested. These Cordoba teams hadn’t played each other in over 13 years and many expected this to occur.

Talleres Cordoba - Defensores - 19/09/04

Source: yahoo.com.ar

Talleres de Córdoba fans went crazy alter being thrashed 3-0 by Defensores. There were troubles behind one of the goals between different Talleres barrabrava groups. No trouble of this sort had happened since the death of a Talleres fan in 2000 as a result of a confrontation between “Las Violetas – The Violets” and “La Fiel – The Faithful”.
On Sunday, the trouble started when a Talleres fan crossed the mota separating the seats from the pitch, and attempted to get to the team’s president Dossetti. He was chased by 15 police and apprehended. Soon alter, “Las Violetas” and “La Fiel” began fighting each other in great numbers. This is sometimes typical in Argentine soccer, especially when there are no opposing fans to fight, or if free tickets and travel expenses from the club are at stake.
Even though the confrontations started behind the north terrace, it continued outside the stadium. 6 people were arrested for other incidents as well. The photo shows one member of these groups holding a blade in the midst of the fight.
A new smaller firm emerged recently called “Los pibes de General Bustos” and were on “La Fiel”s side. This may have triggered problems as well. Video surveillance will attempt to identify the thugs. Many are questioning how a fan was able to sneak in a blade to today’s game, and yesterday’s Racing Córdoba vs Belgrano game as well.
