More arrests to follow as 7 appear in court after Grimsby Town's FA Cup derby against Scunthorpe United - 12/11/2013
Source : http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/
THESE are the faces of some of those arrested following Saturday's FA Cup derby between Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United.
As seven of the 12 arrested appeared in court yesterday – with six of them pictured here – police have warned that more arrests are set to follow as their investigation continues.
The court appearances came on the same day as football safety managers pledged to have more stewards on duty for the replay a week today.
Those appearing at Grimsby Magistrates' Court had their cases adjourned to December 3 and six of them had the condition of bail imposed that they cannot attend the replay at Glanford Park on Tuesday, November 19. The seven are:
Lee Croucher, 27, of Holly Mews, Grimsby, charged with breach of a banning order.
Joshua Heinzman, 21, of Durban Road, Grimsby, charged with breach of a banning order.
David Bennett, 35, of Stanley Street, Grimsby, charged with going onto a playing area during a football match.
Thomas Haggensen, 22, of Dale View, Grimsby, charged with use of threatening words to cause harm and distress. He was granted unconditional bail by magistrates.
Thomas Washington, 20, of Bradford Avenue, Cleethorpes, charged with going onto a playing area during a football match.
Lewis Hopkinson, 23, of Oxford Street, Cleethorpes, charged with going onto a playing area during a football match.
Lewis Austwick, 24, of Buller Street, Grimsby, charged with assaulting a police officer following the game.
Two 18-year-old men were arrested for breach of a Section 27 dispersal order. They were both taken to Grimsby Police station and later given cautions.
A 15-year-old boy from Cleethorpes, a 30-year-old man from Cleethorpes, and a 36-year-old man from Scunthorpe, were arrested in connection with a disturbance following the football match.
The teenager and the 36-year-old have been bailed until a date later this month, and the 30-year-old until December.
Security will be stepped up for the FA Cup replay between Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United.
More stewards will be drafted in and Humberside Police are expected to deploy more officers at the Glanford Park Stadium.
Superintendent Dave Hall of Humberside Police said he expected the number of arrests to rise.
"I can confirm that a thorough police investigation is underway, to establish what happened in the incident and to ensure that all those who were involved are dealt with in a timely manner and brought to justice. This type of football violence will not be tolerated.
"I expect that the number of those arrested will increase as the investigation continues."
Blundell Park stadium manager Nick Dale estimated that about 400 Grimsby Town fans had attended the game with the intention of causing trouble.
He said: "We were stretched to the limit. Most of the problems were post match and in the area of Cleethorpes seafront. There were only three arrests inside the ground and two of those were streakers."
He added: "It was just a small proportion of the gate who had the intention of causing disorder. It is a credit to all our stewards that it was contained inside the stadium."
He said there were 90 stewards and 40 police officers inside Blundell Park. Mr Dale said stewards from Blundell Park will be drafted in for the replay.
There will be 1,678 tickets for away fans, with season ticket holders given preference.
Stadium manager at Glanford Park, Alan Welsh, said he will deploy extra stewards above the usual 60 he has for home games.
He said: "There will be extra staff on duty for this game to ensure the safety of everybody and ensure they enjoy it. At the end of the day we want everyone to be safe."
Glanford Park bosses are expecting a capacity 9,000 fans at the replay.

Ajax fined £21,000 for banner at Celtic match - 14/11/2013
Source : http://www.scotsman.com
Ajax have been fined e25,000 (£21,000) by Uefa after fans displayed an offensive banner at their Champions League home game against Celtic.
The Dutch club announced the sanction on their website and confirmed another case is ongoing concerning crowd trouble at the previous fixture in Glasgow.
The club’s statement read: “Ajax have been fined by Uefa after a banner appeared on the stands of the Amsterdam Arena during the match against Celtic FC. The banner was aimed at Ajax’s opponents that night. Uefa imposed a fine of e25,000.
“The possible penalty for such an offence is a fine of e50,000 plus the closure of some parts of the stadium at the next European home game. After a prompt and adequate response from Ajax the fine was halved and the partial closure averted.
“The penalty will be recovered from those responsible. Another case is in process arising from disturbances during Ajax’s match against Celtic FC in Glasgow. A ruling is expected to follow on Thursday, 21 November.”
The banner carried the offensive slogan “fenian bastards” and appeared in the same area of the ground as flags pertaining to the “F-Side” hooligan group of Ajax fans.

Scots, Celtic fans shocked by police violence in Amsterdam - 14/11/2013
Source : http://www.scotsman.com
Fans of Scottish football club Celtic are angered by the violent way police acted ahead of last week’s Champions League game against Amsterdam’s Ajax, according to various media reports.
Eight police officers were injured in clashes with fans on Amsterdam’s Dam square but dozens of Celtic fans were also wounded. Fans are now collecting video and photographic evidence to show police overreacted.
The club’s official website warned fans in advance to be careful. ‘We knew the Ajax supporters had a bad reputation but we did not know the same applied to the Dutch police,’ said Jeanette Findlay of the Celtic Trust in the Volkskrant. ‘Scottish police have been shocked by the images.’
Flag
Things started to go wrong when a group of Ajax fans made off with a Scottish flag and were chased by the owner. Police intervened, including dozens in plain clothes, and the situation degenerated into a riot as Celtic fans mistook the police for Ajax supporters.
One video shows how two police officers held a young fan while a third kneed him repeatedly in the stomach. Another shows a man being held while a police dog bites his left leg. One Scot was run over by a police van and broke his leg in three places, the Volkskrant says.
Two men, Padraig Mullan and Andy Vance, remain in custody in the Netherlands and will appear in court in connection with the trouble on November 21. They are charged with using violence against a police officer.
Their lawyer Christian Visser told the Parool the two plan to take legal action against the police for injuries they received, once they are back in Scotland.

England : Police officers face probe on Wolves and Port Vale fans disorder - 14/11/2013
Source : http://www.expressandstar.com
More than 30 football fans were arrested amid disorder before, during and after Wolves’ 3-1 win at Port Vale in August. Concerns were also raised over drunk fans being let into the ground.
But today an operational debrief by Staffordshire Police has revealed that there was no medical assistance available for fans when violence flared, that transport officers were not even aware of Wolves fans approaching Burslem Railway Station after the match and that officers left police cars which blocked exit routes abandoned after taking it upon themselves to join colleagues elsewhere
Seven dog bite complaints are currently being looked into by the Independent Police Complaints Commission, while two further general complaints about the police operation are also being investigated.
Staffordshire Police today said that the two officers, who have not been named, are being investigated internally over their conduct on the day.
Around 4,000 Wolves fans descended on the town for the game on August 31, although there was only room for 1,000 of them in pubs around the ground.
Trouble broke out around the Vale Park stadium with some supporters running onto the pitch and others setting off flares.
The debrief called for a ‘culture change’ between the police and Port Vale and said Wolves fans should have been kept in the stadium after the game.
Earlier this week police were criticised by police and crime commissioner Matthew Ellis for their handling of the match and chiefs today admitted there were ‘lessons to learn’ about their response.
Of the 34 arrests made - 21 were Port Vale fans and 13 were Wolves supporters. Twenty-two have since been charged.
The debrief lists nine recommendations - including better training and improved liaison between units.Chief Constable Mike Cunningham said the investigations into the conduct of the two officers was routine.
Staffordshire Police’s operation is being reviewed by public order experts from other forces at the IPCC’s request.0

The domestic championship has been plagued by crowd trouble in recent years.
Last month the coach Ivaylo Petev left Levski one day after being forced out of his first news conference by hostile fans of the 26-times Bulgarian champions.

Ludogorets player and coach hurt as Beroe Stara Zagora fans run riot - 16/11/2013
Source : http://www.theguardian.com
Pitch invaded in latest Bulgarian football violence
A Dutch player and an assistant coach were injured as Bulgarian football was rocked by more crowd violence on Saturday when Beroe Stara Zagora fans attacked the players of champions Ludogorets at a training session.
Police reported that several dozen fans of holders Beroe invaded the pitch on the eve of the Bulgarian Cup last-16 second leg against Ludogorets, throwing missiles, stones and other objects.
The Dutch midfielder Mitchell Burgzorg was hurt after being hit on the head by a stone, assistant coach Yasen Valchinov was struck on the calf by a firework while a masseur sustained a minor injury.
Burgzorg, who is also a rapper under the name of "Priester", was taken to hospital in the southern town of Stara Zagora.
"We're still searching for the perpetrators," a police spokeswoman said. "Police reacted very quickly and prevented more serious incidents."
Beroe, the 1986 Bulgarian league champions, hit out at the violence. "The management condemns any hooliganism and cannot tolerate such actions," the club said in a statement. "We will not allow such an escalation of tension to happen during the game on Sunday."
The Ludogorets chief executive, Angel Petrichev, praised the efforts of the police. "Fortunately there were police and security guards around the stadium and they prevented something much worse," he said. "I would like to thank the police in Stara Zagora for responding so quickly."

England : Three Sunderland fans in court after derby day brawl follows victory over Newcastle - 21/11/2013
Source : http://www.sunderlandecho.com
Three Black Cats supporters were arrested for their part in the fight outside Passion in Sunderland city centre, which kicked off at about 7pm on October 27, four hours after the football match against Newcastle United ended.
Staff in the Holmeside bar had thrown everyone out and locked the doors after trouble flared inside the venue.
Police were called and arrested Daniel Allan, Michael Hiles and Martin Hoggarth.
Allan, 29, Hiles, 42, and Hoggarth, 25, all pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in separate hearings at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Hiles, 42, also pleaded guilty to a charge of resisting arrest.
John McGlone, prosecuting, said: “Police in a marked police vehicle received a radio communication to attend Passion to deal with a large disturbance.
“When they arrived, several hundred people were in the street. Passion had ejected everyone from the club and locked its doors.
“They were shouting and chanting about Sunderland’s victory over Newcastle.”
The court heard that Allan, of Halstead Square, Hylton Lane Estate, became abusive when police asked him to move off the road and on to the pavement.
Hiles, of Rokeby Street, Sunderland, was seen making gestures towards police dog handlers, and swearing at them, before struggling when they tried to arrest him.
Hoggarth, of Somerset Street, Silksworth, was held after trying to stop police arrest another man.
Tom Morgan, defending Allan, said: “He was out for the derby game and had been consuming alcohol.”
Chris Wilson, defending Hoggarth, said: “He had attended the Stadium of Light. Sunderland, for once, had won a football match.”
Allan was fined £140, Hiles was fined £235 and Hoggarth was given a 12-month conditional discharge with £40 costs.
The magistrates could not impose football banning orders on any of them because the crimes were not committed while they were walking to or from a game.
Chairman of the bench Joan Green said: “We would like to make a football banning order, but unfortunately we can’t.
“Please stay out of trouble and don’t go to another derby game or you will end up back here.”
Sunderland won the derby match 2-1 thanks to goals from Steven Fletcher and Fabio Borini.

Arsenal could face Napoli behind closed doors in Champions League - 21/11/2013
Source : http://www.theguardian.com
• Napoli fear Uefa sanctions after crowd trouble against Marseille • Ban on supporters could be enforced for 11 December match
Arsenal expect to learn on either Thursday or Friday whether the potentially decisive Champions League group tie against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo will be played behind closed doors.
Uefa have almost concluded their investigation into the crowd trouble that marred Napoli's home win against Marseille two weeks ago and the fear in Naples is that the governing body will make an example of them and impose a ban on all supporters for the final Group F fixture against Arsenal on 11 December.
Arsenal do not expect Uefa to order the exclusion of fans and are pressing ahead with their usual plans to look after the supporters who want to travel.
Napoli's 3-2 win over Marseille put them joint top of the group with Arsenal but there was fighting between rival fans outside the San Paolo. Ten people were injured and riot police had to intervene. Flares were set off inside the stadium and there were complaints about Napoli's organisation of the event.
The San Paolo creates one of the most passionate atmospheres in European football and Napoli would not want to be without their fans for a tie that could hold the key to their qualification.

England : Bristol Rovers fan banned for involvement in derby match trouble - 21/11/2013
Source : http://www.bristolpost.co.uk
EN Bristol Rovers fans have appeared in court after being charged in relation to the violence that marred the derby match with Bristol City.
Of the defendants only one, 19-year-old Luke Allen was sentenced during yesterday's court hearing.
Allen, of Ridgeway, Nailsea, admitted using threatening words and behaviour and going on the Ashton Gate pitch at the Johnstone's Paint Trophy first-round tie on September 4, which saw City beat Rovers 2-1.
Rowena Goodwin, prosecuting, told the court Allen told police he had reacted after away fans were pelted with coins.
After one narrowly missed his head he ran onto the pitch and made obscene gestures at City fans, shouting: "Come on, then."
Ms Goodwin said: "He said he couldn't remember what he had shouted but accepted that if he was stupid enough to run on the pitch he was stupid enough to have said what the police claim."
Rebecca Weatherley, defending, said Allen had travelled with four friends to the game and had no intention of getting into any trouble until he and others were pelted with coins by home fans. She added that he left before the violence on the pitch erupted.
"He feels incredibly stupid and embarrassed by his actions," she said.
Ms Weatherley said she felt a proposed banning order was "harsh" because Allen, a carpet fitter who lives with his parents, was of good character and his love of Bristol Rovers provided "escapism" on weekends.
But Ms Goodwin added that although Allen had no convictions he had been previously identified by the club as a "risk supporter."
She also said Allen had been ejected from an away fixture at Yeovil for making obscene gestures towards home fans, although Allen denied this had happened.
District Judge Lynne Matthews fined Allen £160 for the offences, with £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
He was given a three-year football banning order preventing him from going to any games at any ground and precluding him from going to "hot spots" on Bristol Rovers match days where fans may congregate, including named pubs, Bristol Temple Meads and the city's main bus station. Breaching the order could result in six months' jail.
All defendants have bail conditions not to go within 2.5km of the Memorial Stadium four hours before or after a home game. They must also avoid any city where Rovers are playing an away game or travel to London when England are playing at Wembley.

Algerian fans die in World Cup celebrations
At least 12 Algerians have died and 240 others were injured during celebrations for a 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso that sent the national team to the 2014 football World Cup in Brazil.
A government statement on Wednesday said that five celebrating fans were killed when a van slid off the road into a ravine in the mountain town of Bejaia, east of Algiers, while four others died in the southern city of Biskra in a car accident.
The remaining three died in other towns, the statement added without offering further details.
Residents described a great deal of reckless behavior in the course of the celebrations that continued throughout the night in some cities.
All across Algeria people poured into the streets to celebrate their team's qualification for the cup, with young men driving their cars down the streets and honking their horns, despite heavy rain in the north Tuesday night.

Jail Terms For Celtic Fans After Police Clashes - 22/11/2013
Source : http://news.sky.com
The Scottish club condemns the violence but says some of its supporters were "subjected to a high degree of provocation".
Five Celtic fans have been given jail terms following violence in Amsterdam before the club's Champions League match against Ajax, it has been reported.
A sixth fan was acquitted when the group appeared at Amsterdam District Court.
Two were sentenced to two months, two to six weeks and the other to one month, according to lawyer Kerem Canatan who tweeted from the hearing.
He said they all had two weeks to appeal.
The men were arrested after clashes between supporters and police ahead of the Ajax game on November 6.
They were accused of acts of violence in a public space - charges they reportedly denied.
Dutch police said 28 Scots were among 44 people arrested following the violence, in which eight police officers were injured.
One officer was knocked unconscious in the fighting in Dam Square while others suffered broken noses.
Mr Canatan tweeted that the judge awarded damages of €250 (£209) to three police officers and €500 (£418) to another.
Twenty-two of the Scots were released with some paying fines of up to €500, Dutch police said.
After the disorder, Celtic responded to claims from fans that they were poorly treated by opening an internal investigation.
The Glasgow-based club said it would be liaising with various authorities in Amsterdam and the UK to get a full picture of what happened.
A club statement issued at the time said there was "no excuse for any form of violent conduct".
But it added: "There is no question that Celtic supporters have been subjected to a high degree of provocation."

Reporting restrictions lifted after collapse of Dinamo Moscow fight trial - 23/11/2013
Source : http://www.thecourier.co.uk
The jury trial of seven Dundee United fans accused of fighting with Dinamo Moscow supporters during a Europa League qualifier last year has collapsed.
The trial, before Sheriff Hughes, had heard several days of evidence before objections were raised as to the admissibility of some of the photographic evidence being shown.
The trial eventually collapsed more than a week ago. However, as the Crown appealed the not guilty verdict, reporting restrictions were placed on the case until after the appeals process.
The Crown eventually decided not to appeal the decision and Sheriff Hughes lifted the restriction on Friday following an application by Lauren Rae of Thorntons Solicitors on behalf of The Courier.
One of the police witnesses whose evidence Sheriff Hughes told the jury to subsequently disregard was PC Colin Anderson.
Constable Anderson, a football “spotter” whose role involved identifying potential troublemakers at games, said he had approached one of the accused a month after the European tie outside a pub and asked him to come in for questioning.
During the trial, PC Anderson was taken through a series of photographs taken at the Dynamo Moscow tie, although he had not personally attended the game.
Darren John Elder, 23, of Broadford Terrace; David Edward Mark Lawson, 26, of Grampian Gardens; Sean Duffy, 24, of Muirfield Crescent; Greg Campbell, 29, of Finavon Place; Kevin Drummond, 32, no fixed abode; Rory Mulligan, 30, of Findowrie Street; and Dale Kelly, 24, of Byron Terrace, all denied that on August 2 2012, at Tannadice Park, they engaged in behaviour likely to incite public disorder.
It was alleged they repeatedly threw unknown items from the upper tier of the Fair Play Stand on to persons below, then engaged in a fight with opposing fans.
All bar Lawson entered a special defence that their actions were in defence of the elderly, women and children who were attending the match.
Sheriff Hughes said that a “substantial” number of photos had been used by the Crown, but no evidence was presented of who took the photos, if the photo books were in sequence or who compiled them.
He said: “The evidence contained within these books as productions are inadmissible. After reviewing all the evidence it is quite clear that there is no corroborative evidence against the first six accused.”
On the seventh accused, Dale Kelly, Sheriff Hughes said that while a witness saw a person involved in a fight wearing a white shirt and dark trousers, “there was more than one person wearing a white shirt and dark trousers”.
He concluded: “In all the circumstances I will direct the jury to return a not guilty verdict.”

Hull City fans and stewards argue over 'We are Hull City' banner during Crystal Palace match at KC Stadium
Fans and stewards became involved in a tug-of-war over a 'We Are Hull City' banner during the match against Crystal Palace at the KC Stadium.
The large banner had initially been paraded along the East Stand unopposed. However, when a second pass began, stewards attempted to curtail it. As boos rang out around the ground, the stewards backed off and allowed the large, amber standard to be unfurled again, to loud cheers.
Before the match, fans opposing Assem Allam's 'Hull Tigers' rebrand proposals had queued in West Park to sign a giant City Till We Die flag.

Marseille and Napoli hit with fines - 22/11/2013
Source : http://sport.msn.co.nz
Marseille and Napoli have been hit with punishments over the behaviour of their fans in the recent Champions League games between the pair, UEFA said Friday.
UEFA's disciplinary committee fined French giants Marseille a total of 58,000 euros ($A85,500) after their fans let off flares and threw objects on to the pitch both during their side's home fixture at the Velodrome on October 22 and the return at Naples's San Paolo on November 6.
Napoli were fined a total of 55,000 euros after their fans also let off flares at both matches.
Napoli won both games, knocking Marseille out of the competition.
Turks Galatasaray were hit with a 100,000 euros fine for trouble by their fans at a match in Copenhagen on November 5 while Ajax were hit with a 20,000-euro penalty due to incidents during their clash with Celtic on October 22.

Angry AC Milan fans force players to remain in San Siro
Angry AC Milan fans prevented the club's players from departing San Siro following the 1-1 draw with Genoa which leaves Massimiliano Allegri's outfit 11th in Serie A.
The Rossoneri went up 1-0 after only four minutes but were pegged back immediately by the dogged visitors, who survived a subsequent siege to their goal despite being a man down for the second period.
Supporters watched on as Allegri's men ran out of ideas to beat an inspired Mattia Perin, whose heroics between the Genoa posts included saving Mario Balotelli's 36th-minute penalty.
Irate fans from San Siro's Curva Sud section blockaded the stadium exits after full-time, demanding a personal audience with the team and Allegri over the side's state of affairs.
"These players don't know what sacrifice is. They have so much money, while people like us work hard for them," a spokesperson told reporters.
The Ultras had earlier unfurled a banner proclaiming "Let's meet by the exit you unworthy lot", prompting police to form a cordorn around the players' garage.
Balotelli voluntered to pacify them but was stopped by security personnel, so Kaka and goalkeeper Christian Abbiati went to meet a body of 300 fans in the striker's stead.
The pair spent three minutes in heated dialogue with the group outside the stadium grounds before being allowed back to the dressing rooms to widespread applause, with the situation apparently resolved.
"Things are not going well this year, but that happens to everybody. There's no need to overdramatize," club CEO Adriano Galliani appealed.
"I won't speak about the Curva Sud tonight. You need to be patient and stay calm. We will get back on track."
"I am eager to bring the team back to a good position in Serie A, continue in the Champions League and also the Coppa Italia," coach Allegri pleaded. "I have not run out of ideas yet, or I would have left.
"It's only natural there is bitterness that we are without a win in a month. In my three years at Milan we always did well, but things aren't going our way this season.
"Balotelli must stay calm, as penalties can be missed. He's scored so many penalties before, but unfortunately the last two he took were saved."
Milan are now without a win in their last seven matches in all competitions and sit 18 points behind leaders Roma in Serie A.
