Fans clash in Greece before PAOK-Rapid Vienna game
Greek riot police have fired tear gas at PAOK and Rapid Vienna fans clashing in the stands shortly before the teams' Europa League match.
No arrests or injuries have been reported, and Thursday's game for the first leg of the playoff round started with just a delay of a few minutes.
Police say the violence started when Rapid Vienna fans fired flares at PAOK supporters, who responded in kind. About 700 Rapid Vienna supporters travelled to Thessaloniki for the match.

Argentina : Boca Juniors - Independiente - Copa Sudamericana - 23/08/2012
Government security officials have closed Boca Juniors' stadium as a penalty for fan violence at the end of a match on Wednesday against Independiente in the Copa Sudamericana. Dario Ruiz, a top official of the office of Security Policy, on Thursday said Boca's Bombonera stadium would be closed for at least one league match. Violence broke out after Independiente earned a 3-3 draw with a late penalty, and fans near the Independiente bench ripped down an advertising board. Boca said in a statement that it had identified four fans involved and said they would be banned from entering the stadium. Violence threatens many matches in Argentine football, where hooligan gangs rule areas in and around the stadiums.

Anzhi Makhachkala thanked Moscow police for keeping order and protecting their fans at the Lokomotiv Stadium during a Europa League first-leg tie marred by crowd trouble.
"We would like to say special thanks to the Lokomotiv Football Club for providing their home arena for our match," Anzhi said on their website. "We also want to thank the Moscow police for providing a high level of security during the match." Thursday's match, where Anzhi beat Dutch club AZ Alkmaar 1-0, was attended by several hundred Moscow fans, who racially abused Anzhi players and threw objects on to the pitch. Some fans were pictured giving a Nazi salute and chanting slogans such as "Russia is (only) for Russians" and "Caucasians go home". The fans said they were protesting against the club from the volatile North Caucasus region playing their games in Moscow. UEFA has banned Anzhi from playing at home in the violence-plagued Dagestan region this season for security reasons. Anzhi coach Guus Hiddink criticised the fans' behaviour. "I'm not sure if those were the real football fans," the Dutchman told reporters after the match. "I think it was a provocation against our club. I don't know what UEFA will do next. They may ask us to play elsewhere." Anzhi striker Shamil Lakhiyalov was even more forthright, saying: "I think it would be better if we play our home games in Europe instead of Moscow." The head of the violence-plagued Dagestan region on Friday appealed to the Russian people to fight nationalism and racism. "While most Russian fans cheered Anzhi's victory, others have tried to use the match to incite nationalistic hysteria and hatred between various ethnic groups in Russia," Dagestan leader Magomedsalam Magomedov said in a statement. Thursday's crowd trouble was the latest in a series of fan violence in Russian football. Also on Thursday, police in St Petersburg opened a criminal case after several Anzhi supporters had been attacked by local fans in Russia's northern capital. Last week, several Zenit St Petersburg supporters said they were badly beaten by police and stadium security staff after a league game against Anzhi in Makhachkala. One of the fans, Alexander Makasin, was on Friday admitted to an intensive care unit in St Petersburg with damage to his spleen and other internal injuries, the fans' group said on their official website. In March, a fan threw a banana at Anzhi's Congolese defender Christopher Samba at a league game at Lokomotiv Stadium.

Football Fans Clash After Dagestan Club Plays in Moscow
Police detained around 40 people for brawling in the Moscow metro late Thursday following a match involving Dagestan-based football club Anzhi, in the second straight day of ethnically charged violence between fans.
The fights broke out after a UEFA Europa League match in Moscow between Anzhi and Dutch team AZ Alkmaar. Eighty fans were arrested at the contest for offenses including shouting nationalistic and vulgar slogans and throwing flares onto the field at the stadium of the Lokomotiv football club, a police spokesman told Interfax.
In the metro following the match, police broke up several fights and held "preventive discussions" with 40 people after arresting them, police said in a statement on their website.
Coming on the heels of a brawl between supporters of the Zenit club and Anzhi fans outside a McDonald's restaurant in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, the head of the State Duma committee on ethnic issues called for better efforts to prevent violence between fans, some of whom are also members of nationalist groups.
"Everyone needs to work, and first and foremost law enforcement agencies, the clubs themselves and fan organizations. They need to follow the law," Gadzhimet Safaraliyev of United Russia told Interfax.
"Why are some people jailed for a carelessly said word when there are also insults and incitements of ethnic hatred, throwing of various objects — and no one responds?" Safaraliyev said.
Ethnic tensions have played a role in clashes involving football fans in the past, including in a 2010 riot near the Kremlin in which 5,000 nationalists fought with police following the release of a Caucasus native accused of killing a Spartak fan during a brawl.
Last week, a Lokomotiv fan club complained in a letter to team president Olga Smorodskaya about the planned match between Anzhi and AZ Alkmaar set to be held in the club's stadium in Cherkizovo, calling the decision to let "aliens" play in the stadium "shameful."
Anzhi is forced to play home contests in Moscow since UEFA has prohibited matches from being held in Makhachkala, the capital of the volatile Dagestan republic, due to safety concerns.
A Zenit fan club wrote in a message on their website Friday that they want a similar ban for Russian league matches, following fights between Zenit and Anzhi fans in Makhachkala after a match between the sides last week.
Anzhi on Friday asked police to investigate Wednesday's brawl between fans in St. Petersburg, according to a message on the club's website. Police said Thursday that a criminal case had been opened in connection with the incident.
In a separate message, Anzhi expressed gratitude to Moscow police and Lokomotiv security personnel for maintaining order during Thursday's match in Moscow.

Police Open Case After Fans Clash in St. Pete
St. Petersburg police opened a criminal case Thursday after football fans clashed outside a McDonald's restaurant the night before.
Police reportedly detained six brawlers at the scene of the incident, which took place late Wednesday outside the fast-food giant's branch on Moskovsky Prospekt, while three others were hospitalized, Interfax reported.
In a video of what appears to be the aftermath of the brawl posted on YouTube, fans can be seen fleeing the scene of the violence. One fan lets off a flare as he chases after a group of supporters.
Leningrad region police told the news agency that the suspects would face hooliganism charges, which carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
According to investigators, Wednesday night's brawl erupted after fans of St. Petersburg-based Zenit attacked local fans of Makhachkala-based Anzhi.
The motive for the violence appeared to be a Sunday confrontation between Zenit and Anzhi fans in Makhachkala, where two Zenit fans were reportedly beaten up after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the Russian Premier League.
Anzhi fans will be out in force on Thursday, when they are due to play a Europa League match against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in Moscow's Lokomotiv Stadium.
Anzhi is not allowed to host home matches in European club competitions after international football officials expressed concerns over safety in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia's Dagestan republic.

Hungarian soccer fans disrupt Israeli anthem with hateful, racist slurs
Fans chant 'stinking Jews,' 'Heil Benito Mussolini,' 'Buchenwald' and 'Palestine, Palestine',and wave Iranian and Palestinian flags, during singing of 'Hatikvah' before soccer match between both countries' national teams in Budapest.
Hungarian authorities still have not apologized for anti-Israel and anti-Semitic incidents that took place at an August 15 soccer match between the national teams of Israel and Hungary in Budapest. During the so-called friendly match, a warm-up for both teams in advance of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, Hungarian fans turned their backs on the field during the singing of “Hatikvah,” the Israeli national anthem, and waved Iranian and Palestinian flags.
Fans who attended the match told Haaretz of booing throughout the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw. There were also chants of “Palestine, Palestine,” “stinking Jews,” “Buchenwald” and “Heil Benito Mussolini.”
“It wasn't a group a crazies, but the entire crowd," said one of those present.
The incident was not an isolated case, Efraim Zuroff, director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Jerusalem office, told Haaretz. “Hooliganism of this kind is indicative of the rise of anti-Semitism in Hungary today,” he said, adding that it is encouraged by the ultra-nationalist Jobbik party that denies Hungarian complicity in Holocaust crimes and supports Iran. Jobbik first gained seats in the Hungarian parliament two years ago, and now is the country's third-largest political party.
Hungarian anti-Semitism appears to have intensified in recent weeks, after Knesset Speaker Reuven (Ruby) Rivlin withdrew the invitation of Hungarian Parliament Speaker László Kövér to a Jerusalem ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Raul Wallenberg, the late Swedish diplomat instrumental in saving many Hungarian Jews during World War II. Rivlin's move followed revelations that Kövér had attended a memorial for a WWII anti-Semitic Hungarian nationalist. Hungarian President Janos Ader attended the ceremony in Kövér's place.
The atmosphere had been tense ever since the Israeli team arrived in Hungary, in the wake of recent threats against Israelis traveling abroad and growing Hungarian anti-Semitism. National team coach Eli Guttman said that there had been “warnings about possible terrorist attacks, and reported that police on motorcycles escorted the team after the game.
Despite the threats, Football Association head Avi Luzon said that Israel would continue to play overseas matches. “We have no other country, and we are proud to represent Israel anywhere in the world – particularly in this country, in which many Jews were murdered.”

Hooligans fight over Boca turf
Five people were wounded in a gun fight between rival factions of Boca Juniors hooligans while Independiente coach Christian Diaz quit due to fan pressure over poor results as dark forces engulfed Argentine soccer at the weekend.
"We're worried. It's a lamentable occurrence because there are people with bullet wounds," Boca president Daniel Angelici told reporters after Saturdays incident.
The shootout involving "barra bravas", the Latin American equivalent of the European ultras, took place before Boca's away league match at Union in Santa Fe.
The barra bravas fight over turf rights such as free tickets, parking spaces and the sale of refreshments around the ground.
Boca beat nine-man Union 2-1 to go top of the Argentine league before the rest of the programme of matches on Sunday and Monday.
Union had midfielder Pablo Bruna sent off in the 34th minute and defender Mauro Maidana in the 70th.
Boca, who scored through defender Rolando Schiavi and striker Nicolas Blandi, have nine points from four matches, one point more than title holders Arsenal.
Independiente lost 2-0 at home to Arsenal, an 11th league game without victory which sees them stranded in the relegation places, and which prompted Diaz's resignation.
Hardcore fans, who are disilusioned with the club president Javier Cantero over his refusal to grant them the favours they had become accustomed to under the previous administration, had been calling for Diazs head for months.
The fans chanted the name of Americo Gallego, the former Argentina 1978 World Cup winning midfielder who was the last coach to steer Independiente to the league title a decade ago.
"Its time to decompress things a little," Diaz said of his decision to leave.
"I'm in no doubt that Independiente will get out of this situation and get to June (when the season ends) with a smile for the fans."

Wycombe Wanderers - Bristol Rovers - 25/08/2012
Source : http://www.football.co.uk
Match Report
Bristol Rovers were left frustrated as their match against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park was abandoned because of a waterlogged pitch with the visitors 3-1 up.
Two terrific strikes by Eliot Richards put Rovers in control but persistent torrential rain during the second half forced referee Andy Davies to call a halt to proceedings after 67 minutes.
Bristol Rovers went ahead in the 10th minute when David Clarkson cut inside from the left before his cut-back was swept into the top corner by Lee Brown.
But Wycombe were level within four minutes as Matt Spring's precise cross allowed Richard Logan to nod in his first goal since a summer move from Exeter City.
Richards then slammed in two spectacular goals in three minutes by first launching a 30-yard screamer into the top corner before blasting in after an awful defensive header by Charles Dunne.
A torrential thunderstorm then set in during the second half and after the players had been taken from the pitch, play was officially abandoned.

Dagestani Leader Urges Anti-Racism Fight After Football Brawl - 27/08/2012
Source : http://www.themoscowtimes.com
Dagestan’s leader has appealed to Russians to fight nationalism and racism after Anzhi Makhachkala supporters were attacked following a Europa League match marred by crowd trouble.
Police detained 120 football fans during and after the match.
“While most Russian fans cheered Anzhi’s victory, others have tried to use the match to incite nationalistic hysteria and hatred between various ethnic groups in Russia,” Dagestan leader Magomedsalam Magomedov said Friday in a statement.
Magomedov said it was not the first time Anzhi fans had been victims of nationalistic violence.
Anzhi thanked Moscow police for keeping order and protecting their fans at the Lokomotiv Stadium during Thursday evening’s first-leg tie against Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.
“We would like to say special thanks to the Lokomotiv Football Club for providing their home arena for our match,” Anzhi said in a statement. “We also want to thank the Moscow police for providing a high level of security during the match.”
Thursday’s match, won by Anzhi 1-0, was attended by several hundred fans who racially abused Anzhi players and threw objects, including flares, onto the pitch. Some fans gave a Nazi salute and chanted slogans such as “Russia for Russians” and “Caucasus natives go home.”
About 80 fans were detained during the match, while another 40 were held in the Moscow metro for attacking Anzhi fans and injuring several people.
UEFA has banned Anzhi from playing at home in the region this season for security reasons.
Anzhi coach Guus Hiddink criticized the fans’ behavior.
“I’m not sure if those were the real football fans,” the Dutchman told reporters after the match. “I think it was a provocation against our club. I don’t know what UEFA will do next. They may ask us to play elsewhere.”
Many of the troublemakers were Zenit fans who traveled from St. Petersburg with plans to disrupt the match, news reports said.
Their anger appears to be linked to the beating on Aug. 20 of several Zenit St. Petersburg supporters by police and stadium security staff after a league game against Anzhi in Makhachkala.
One of the fans, Alexander Makasin, was admitted Friday to an intensive care unit in St. Petersburg with damage to his spleen and other internal injuries, the fans’ group said on its official website.
On Wednesday, about 50 Zenit fans attacked a group of Dagestan natives in the outdoor dining area of a McDonald’s restaurant in St. Petersburg. City police opened a criminal case into the incident on Thursday.

Orlando Pirates - Supersport United - South African Cup - 25/08/2012
Source : http://www.sportlive.co.za
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) says it will not tolerate unruly behaviour from fans after Orlando Pirates supporters hurled objects onto the pitch and at stadium security in a cup match at the weekend.
“What we saw on Saturday night during the MTN8 semi-final clash cannot be condoned,” acting PSL CEO Cambridge Mokanyane said in a statement on Monday.
“It is not good for us or for the image of football.
“As the league, we condemn it in the strongest possible ways.
“The safety and security of both the players and the fans is our priority.”
The Buccaneers, the MTN8 defending champions, were eliminated from the competition after a 3-0 defeat to Supersport United in the second-leg semi-final at Orlando Stadium.
The match descended into chaos when Pirates striker Benni McCarthy was sent off just before the half-time break after he was shown a second yellow card by the match referee.
During the game three fireworks were lit and one was thrown at United goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez.
The match had to be halted in the 66th minute as the referee called players into the centre circle, waiting for the crowd to calm down as fireworks were lit.
Police were called to the stadium after full-time and a heavy-duty police vehicle drove onto the field as a precautionary measure.
Two fans were seen arrested by stadium security in the players’ tunnel after the game.
