Chelsea fans slash Rugby aces - 15/05/2010
Source: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2973942/Chelsea-fans-slash-London-Irish-players-faces.html (thanks to the sender)
TWO rugby union stars on a fancy dress pub crawl were recovering last night after being slashed by Chelsea football thugs.
Around 20 players from Guinness Premiership side London Irish had been out on their end-of-season party when they clashed with the yobs.
The players - dressed as cowboys, red Indians, policemen and builders - first gave the dozen thugs a battering in a brawl at a bar.
But as they walked off, the Chelsea 'fans' - who were celebrating winning the Premier League - armed themselves with bottles and a knife and charged after the rugby players in the street.
Fly-half Ryan Lamb, 23, had the blade drawn across his cheek, and a pal aged 28 had a bottle smashed into his face in Clapham, South London.
They were rushed to hospital by ambulance, though others refused to go. A witness said: "The rugby players' booze-up went through Saturday night. They arrived on Sunday afternoon in good spirits, but drunk.
Skittles
"At 10.30pm the chanting fans arrived. They were 18 to 35 and clearly troublemakers. A Wild West-style brawl broke out and the football lads were taught a lesson.
"They were going down like skittles."
The witness said the rugby boys walked away from the Gigalum bar and were 100 yards down the street when the Chelsea yobs chased after them "like a pack of wild animals".
The witness added: "One rugby player had his cheek hanging open, another had blood pouring from face cuts."
A London Irish spokesman said: "There was an incident which is being investigated. As police are involved we can't say any more." A source close to the club said both players should be "OK".
A man in his mid-30s was arrested and bailed.
Bar owner Will Campbell-Jones said: "The rugby players were a nice bunch. What happened outside was horrible."

Greece: Volleyball final put off until today - 13/05/2010
The large number of ticketless Olympiakos fans who stormed the Rendi arena yesterday forced police and match officials to postpone the volleyball game with Panathinaikos until tonight.
Volleyball has once again been hurt by the fear of violence, as Game 4 of the finals between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos was postponed last night for today at 7 p.m.
The match that could have decided the winner of the season’s title, given that Olympiakos leads 2-1 in the best-of-five series and is the host of Game 4, did not get under way last night because a large number of Olympiakos fans without tickets forced their way into the stands at the court in Rendi.
Police and match officials refused to allow the game to begin, due to the fact that there had been no real control of those entering the ground, which would have posed a risk for athletes as well as for the fans themselves. After 45 minutes of consultation, the organizers postponed the match until tonight, hoping that police will be able to monitor fans better this time.
Olympiakos finds itself on the verge of winning the championship for the second year in succession, courtesy of its 3-2 away triumph in Glyfada on Monday. The Reds won the first set 25-21, only for Panathinaikos to take a 2-1 lead before its own fans (27-25, 25-23), though Olympiakos fought back to land the last two 25-17 and 15-10.

FAN VIOLENCE once again marred Cypriot football with several people slightly injured in the final league game between Omonia and Anorthosis in Larnaca on Saturday.
The violence left behind broken car windshields and damages to Anorthosis’ stadium as well as homes and shops in the area.
Teargas used by police to disperse the stone-throwing crowd spread into the field, forcing officials to interrupt the game for some 15 minutes.
According to police, before the kick-off, around 50 Anorthosis fans threw stones at Omonia supporters who were on the north stand.
Omonia fans responded in kind, prompting the police to intervene to restore order.
The situation was peaceful until champions Omonia, who ultimately won the game 4:2, equalised 2:2 in the second half.
A large number of people went outside and started throwing stones at the police and Anorthosis supporters, police said.
Police arrested two youths – an 18-year-old who assaulted a police officer and a 19-year-old for possession of a metal club.
Police said they were examining photographs of the fracas and more arrests were expected.
According to authorities, 21 private cars were reported damaged as well as 16 police and fire service vehicles.
Fourteen police officers who sustained injuries were treated in hospital and subsequently discharged, police said.
On Sunday, Omonia fans celebrating the championship threw stones and bottles in the courtyard of a central Nicosia police station but no damage was caused.
A group of fans also attacked a fire engine damaging the vehicle, and slightly injuring the two firemen who were inside, police said.

Three Bolton thugs attack men after derby game - 17/05/2010
Source: local press (thanks to the sender)
THREE Bolton football hooligans have been banned from games for five years after attacking two men on derby day.
Stuart Kay, aged 25, and Brian Kay, aged 19, both of Hereford Crescent, Little Lever, and Sam Weatherby, aged 18, of Grant Street, Farnworth, all admitted affray after beating up two men outside a pub in Manchester city centre.
The men were outside Branigans on Peter Street, Manchester, after the United vs City derby on September 20 last year when they got into an argument with two men.
They were seen on CCTV chasing the pair down the road before beating them to the floor. The trio ran off and were arrested nearby.
Stuart Kay was on Friday sentenced to 34 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, ordered to carry out 180 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £400 costs.
Brian Kay was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £400 costs.
Weatherby was ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work and pay £400 costs.
All three were given five-year football banning orders, which means they cannot go to any football game and cannot travel to any town or city in England and Wales on a day when Manchester United or England are playing there.
They also cannot enter Manchester city centre on Saturdays and Sundays between 12 noon and midnight and on any other day from 4pm to midnight when Manchester United are playing at home.
Chf Supt Mark Roberts said: "For these three men, who are so called football fans, the consequences of their thuggish actions are very serious.
"Not only will they be unable to get into grounds to cheer on their team they cannot even come into the city on a match day.
"Football related violence is a serious offence that carries serious penalties.
"The majority of genuine fans cause us no trouble whatsoever but this result should act as a stern warning to the small minority who do attend games with the intention of committing disorder that we will identify you and you will be punished."
