AS Roma Hooligans Carrying 'Metal Bars' Attack Liverpool Fans
An army of Liverpool fans have descended into Rome ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg, with hooligans reportedly attacking them.
Despite initial fears about safety following the unsavoury scenes at Liverpool, around 5,000 supporters have made the trip to the Italian capital.
The semi-final first leg was marred after AS Roma fans attacked their Liverpool counterparts before kick-off.
A section of the visitors ambushed the home fans with 'belts' and 'batons' outside a pub, seriously injuring Irishman Sean Cox who remains in hospital with head injuries.
The AS Roma team have subsequently paid tribute to him during training, donning 'Forza Sean' t-shirts.
But, last night, an incident occurred which included Liverpool fans being attacked by AS Roma hooligans who were carrying 'metal bars'.
A Liverpool fan gives a detailed account of the trouble.
"We got a few hundred yards from the hotel, which is on Violo del Gallo, and two scooters came out of nowhere," he said via Standard.
"The two passengers on the back got off and attacked us. One had a small metal bar. We tried to fight back but the drivers got off. We ran off."
No arrests have been made.
Though, the distribution of police officers is the most seen for a football match in Rome.
"Two thousand officers have been deployed, but we can't be everywhere," said a officer.
"This is the largest number ever seen for a football match in Rome, but the ultras will still strike."

Football thugs attack grounded victim like pack of wild animals - 05/05/2018

Twenty six hooligans were taken to court following the mass brawl between Grimsby Town and Sheffield United supporters.
The moment a gang of football hooligans chase down and mercilessly kick an opposition supporter as he lies helplessly in the street has been captured by a police helicopter.
The horrific incident was recorded on camera by the police unit as violence erupted in the streets following a game between Grimsby Town and Sheffield United.
Following a lengthy police probe, 26 fans - involving supporters from both teams - have now been sentenced, Grimsby Telegraph reports.
But despite graphic footage of some of the violence, all escaped prison sentences.
Police warned football troublemakers that they will not tolerate violence from fans — but insisted they are “not here to stop people having fun”.
Although the men escaped jail sentences, 76 years worth of football banning orders were handed out to Grimsby Town and Sheffield United fans embroiled in the violent scenes.
Most of those involved were aged between 20 and 31, while two men over the age of 50 were also caught.
The most serious offenders were handed suspended prison sentences, 200 hours of unpaid work and football banning orders for three or five years, depending on their involvement.
Thirty cases were due to be heard during this week - four of which were adjourned, but the other 26 were sentenced yesterday for their part in scenes involving 200 football hooligans that forced families enjoying a sunny afternoon in Cleethorpes to flee and pubs to close.
Some of those involved were injured and one man was seen on video footage on the ground being kicked by a group of men.
Police officers involved have described it as some of the worst violence they had ever seen.
Chief superintendent Darren Downs said: “Humberside Police and Grimsby Town Football Club agree there is no place in football for this kind of behaviour.
“We hope that the sentences imposed on those who got involved in the violence and disorder in July 2016 will serve as a warning to others.
“It won’t be tolerated and we will take it very seriously.
“We know that the vast majority of fans want no part in the kind of behaviour we saw in Cleethorpes that day and join us and the clubs in condemning the actions of those who did get involved."

'Big fight' breaks out between football fans at Market Harborough station
Police were called to deal with a ‘big fight’ that broke out between football fans at Market Harborough rail station yesterday evening.
East Midlands Trains said there were reports of "unruly passengers" on several services heading south after yesterday’s football.
It's been reported that the incident involved West Ham fans.
West Ham supporters were returning to London after their side's 2-0 win against Leicester City.
A number of train passengers tweeted East Midlands Trains to complain about the behaviour of fans from 7pm which caused disruption to southbound services.
They were complaining not enough coaches were laid on forcing fans from West Ham and another club, who were reported to have been drinking, into close proximity.
At midnight East Midlands Trains tweeted: “A big fight broke out on the train and then onto the platform at Market Harborough which also caused injuries so the emergency services had to be called.
“The train was unable to move so the trains were disrupted as a consequence as the line was blocked.”
Fans forums have reported clashes between Hammers and Luton Town supporters during the journey.

Police used pepper spray to 'control' angry Stoke City fans
Police used pepper spray to 'control' a group of angry Stoke City supporters - after a fellow fan was chucked out of the ground.
Three people needed first aid after the incident during Saturday's Premier League defeat against Crystal Palace which condemned the Potters to relegation.
It followed the removal of a Stoke City fan after a disturbance at the bet365 Stadium during the half-time break.
Now Staffordshire Police have revealed the supporter - a 35-year-old Newcastle man - will not face any criminal charges after being quizzed by officers.
A police spokesman said: "Following a disturbance on the concourse within the south stand at the bet365 Stadium, a 35-year-old man was ejected from the ground. As this was taking place, a group of Stoke City fans turned on the police and pepper spray was used to keep the group back and control the situation. Three people received first aid.
"The man who was ejected was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and resisting arrest. He was later released with no further action."

Rangers supporters bus attacked as fans leave Aberdeen
Following a spate of antisocial behaviour surrounding the Dons’ tie with Hibs at Pittodrie on Saturday, police issued a warning for fans to be on their best behaviour for Tuesday night’s clash with the Glasgow side.
And though there was little trouble during the 1-1 draw, as a bus took Gers supporters from the city it was set upon by a group of youths.
The three culprits hurled objects at the vehicle as it was being driven westbound on Hutcheon Street, near Mounthooly roundabout, between 9.50pm and 10pm.
Police yesterday asked for the public’s help in identifying those responsible.
Chief Inspector Martin Mackay said: “Inquiries are ongoing to trace a group of three males, described as ‘youths’, who were seen in the area at the time.
“They were last seen heading in the Gallowgate direction and one was wearing a white jacket.
“What is concerning is the fact the coach was moving at the time – such a reckless act put everyone on the bus in danger as well as pedestrians, and it goes without saying that the outcome could have been much worse.
“Given the general good behaviour of the crowd, this incident is particularly disappointing.”
A spokesman for Aberdeen FC last night condemned those responsible, but pointed out that they may not have been Dons supporters.
He said: “We do not condone any inappropriate behaviour, and any Aberdeen fan found to have done this will be dealt with accordingly.”
Six men were charged following the Hibs game – including an Edinburgh 44-year-old allegedly caught urinating in a cemetery near Pittodrie.
A local 19-year-old was arrested for having alcohol within the stadium and an Aberdeen 59-year-old was charged with making alleged sectarian and offensive comments during the match.
A second 59-year-old was charged with an alleged assault within the stadium.
Ahead of the Rangers game, police issued an appeal for people to “act responsibly to ensure the night is memorable for all the right reasons”.

Brazil second tier clash between Goias and Vila Nova descends into chaos with ten police officers injured as gun shots heard
FANS were forced to flee in terror after a mass brawl broke out and shots were fired in the stands during a match in Brazil.
At least ten police officers were injured in the violent scenes as furious home fans turned on their own club's ultras.
The trouble started shortly before the end of Vila Nova's 3-1 away victory at Goias, and the pictures were likened to "scenes of war" by the Brazilian press.
It is understood things turned ugly when Goias ultras began burning their club's shirts and flags after they conceded their third goal.
However, another section of their support disagreed with that form of protest and began fighting them.
Police were forced to intervene and ten officers were left injured at the second tier clash — with one suffering facial wounds and being taken to hospital.
Four Goias fans were detained by cops, with one being held overnight after initially resisting arrest.
However, the most distressing scenes show fans arguing in the stands and then being forced to flee as gunshots are heard nearby.
Commentators are asking how it was possible to bring a firearm into the stadium during the live broadcast.
Local police officials have claimed ownership of the gun, insisting it was used by an officer to disperse the crowd.
