French play-off clash between Ajaccio and Le Havre postponed after fans attack visiting bus and prevent them from entering stadium before kick-off
A French Ligue 2 play-off clash between Ajaccio and Le Havre had to be abandoned on Friday night after home supporters launched a terrifying attack on their opponents' bus prior to kick-off.
The winner of the match would have gone on to face Ligue 1's 18th-placed team Toulouse for a place in the top flight next season.
Images show a group of around 150 supporters launching missiles and stones at the Le Havre bus as it arrived from the team hotel. Fans then prevented it from entering the Stade Francois Coty in Corsica.
Footage shows the group of fans marching up the street towards the bus while throwing firecrackers, holding flares and chanting.
Reports suggest one policeman suffered minor injuries during the incident. A flare thrown at the bus caused a small explosion that damaged the vehicle's steering and air conditioning systems.
'The players have only one desire to go home,' said Le Havre coach Oswald Tanchot.
'The players are a little shocked. This decision (to postpone the match) is logical, in terms of timing, preparation, the psychological conditions are not met for us to prepare. This is valid for us, but for the players of Ajaccio too.
'This is an unprecedented situation.'
After the incident had unfolded the Ajaccio players, wearing their full kit, walked from the stadium to meet the Le Havre players but they refused to talk to them.
Le Havre's players were left stuck on their bus to wait for another vehicle to transport them back to Ajaccio airport.
'The match has been cancelled and postponed, but we don't have a new date yet,' regional security official Xavier Delarue said.
The winner of the game was scheduled to meet Toulouse in the first-leg of that play-off on Wednesday.

Ajaccio triumph in crazy French promotion play-off
After one postponement, four red cards, a dramatic late equaliser and a penalty shoot-out, Corsican club Ajaccio are closing in on promotion back to France’s top flight.
The Ligue 2 promotion play-off between Ajaccio and Le Havre was postponed in surreal scenes on Friday after fans of the Corsican club attacked the visitors’ team bus.
Le Havre returned home to northern France and then came back for Sunday’s game, only to see their hopes of promotion go up in smoke.
The match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Ajaccio midfielder Mathieu Coutadeur was then sent off in extra time and on-loan Lyon striker Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a penalty — his second goal of the night — to put Le Havre 2-1 up.
That appeared to be that, but Mateta was then sent off for the provocative manner in which he celebrated his goal. Two more players, were also dismissed, leaving the sides to complete extra time with nine against nine.

French league meets over violent incidents at playoff
The French football league has convened an urgent meeting of its disciplinary commission following the violent incidents which marred a playoff match over the weekend in Corsica.
Four players were sent off in extra-time on Sunday as Ajaccio needed a penalty shoot-out to beat Le Havre at the Francois Coty stadium.
Le Havre said one of its players, Jean-Philippe Mateta, was punched by Ajaccio players after he scored his second goal to give Le Havre a 2-1 lead in extra time. Le Havre also said its president, Vincent Volpe, was pushed in the back in the stands at the end of the match, and claims its players received racist abuse and death threats.
The game between the second-division teams was also stopped twice because of fans getting onto the pitch.
Le Havre officials have asked the French league to annul the result of the match and to hand the Normandy club a default victory.
The game was played in a tense atmosphere after home fans threw stones at the visiting team’s bus as it tried to access the stadium on Friday, prompting the French league to postpone the playoff by two days.
The winner of the game takes on 18th-placed Ligue 1 team Toulouse for a place in the top flight next season.

France : Ligue 1 chasers Ajaccio to play Toulouse in empty stadium - 22/05/2018
Source: http://punchng.com/
French football authorities have ordered second division Ajaccio to face Ligue 1 play-off rivals Toulouse in an empty stadium following ugly scenes over the weekend when fans of the Corsican club attacked the team bus of visiting Le Havre.
After hitting Ajaccio with a stadium ban for the home leg of their two-leg playoff against Toulouse, the French Professional League (LFP) ordered the Corsicans to play the match in an empty stadium in Montpellier.
The decision means Ajaccio are free to continue their bid to rejoin France’s top flight, although the club will appeal the ruling preventing them from playing at their Stade Francois Coty.
“It’s a disgrace, there is no legal basis for it,” said Ajaccio president Leon Luciani. “We’ve played 19 matches here, in Ajaccio, and nothing has has ever happened. We’ve appealed and will go in front of the courts.”
Le Havre, based in northern France, had launched their own appeal following the violent scenes in Ajaccio in recent days, although it was rejected by the LFP.
After one postponement, four red cards, a dramatic late equaliser and a penalty shoot-out, Ajaccio moved a step closer to promotion on Sunday.
The scheduled Ligue 2 promotion play-off between Ajaccio and Le Havre was postponed in surreal scenes on Friday after fans of the Corsican club attacked the visitors’ team bus.
Players and officials from Le Havre were subjected to racist abuse, called “shitty French” and, according to videos circulating on social media, sat in terror inside the team bus as it was hit by stones and other projectiles.
Le Havre returned home and then came back for Sunday’s rescheduled game, only to see their hopes of promotion go up in smoke.
Four red cards The match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Ajaccio midfielder Mathieu Coutadeur was sent off in extra time after pushing the referee, who also awarded a penalty, which on-loan Lyon striker Jean-Philippe Mateta scored — his second goal of the night — to put Le Havre 2-1 up.
That appeared to be that, but Mateta was then sent off for the provocative manner in which he celebrated his goal.
Two more players were also dismissed, leaving the sides to complete extra time with nine men each.
Ajaccio’s Mady Camara made it 2-2 in the fifth minute of added time in extra time, forcing penalties, and the Corsicans duly won the shoot-out 5-3.
Le Havre claimed the extraordinary scenes at the weekend, which also saw Corsican fans invade the pitch, had unfairly obstructed their bid for promotion and appealed to the LFP to be awarded victory.
However the appeal was rejected by the LFP, which said: “There is nothing to constitute taking this match away from Ajaccio.”
Le Havre on Tuesday pledged to “continue our fight and appeal” the LFP’s decision to validate Sunday’s result, which effectively drew a line under their promotion bid.
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, a former mayor of Le Havre, said he was “dismayed” by the incidents.
“Dismayed by the series of events, dismayed by the violence and brutality upon arrival of the Le Havre players at the ground Friday night, dismayed by the violence, the tension around the stadium and inside the stadium on Sunday evening,” he said during his weekly Facebook Live video.

CL ; Liverpool fans ‘attacked by mob of hooligans in Kiev - 25/05/2018
Source: https://www.thesun.co.uk/
LIVERPOOL fans have tonight been attacked by a savage mob of masked thugs as they relaxed near Kiev's Olympic Stadium, it has been claimed.
The innocent supporters were targeted just after 8.30pm by 20 vicious thugs who acted like a "pack of dogs" just two days before the Champions League final.
The Mirror revealed how the British fans had to use tables inside the Rooster restaurant as shields after the hooded hooligans stormed the doors.
As the travelling fans fled in fear, the chasing mob pelted them with bottles, glasses and chairs - causing dozens of shocking injuries.
Jason Frost, 50, from Nuneaton, was targeted just hours after arriving in Kiev for the big game.
He said: "We’ve been here for four hours and then we’re getting attacked. They came at us like a pack of dogs. It was terrifying.”
It's claimed local cops arrested just two of those responsible for the violence and even handcuffed injured Liverpool fans who had done nothing wrong.
The shocking attack raises fears about further ultra attacks ahead of the showpiece game and comes after the Sun online warned about the possibility of trouble in the Ukrainian capital.
Kiev, in the Ukraine, is the hellish stamping ground of several notorious and brutal football 'firms' including the Trouble Company from CSKA Kiev.
Among the most dangerous are the right-wing Nazi thugs of the White Boys Club who follow the city's best known team Dynamo Kiev.
They are infamous for sporting KKK hoods and swastikas on match days and already have a long history of attacking British supporters.
In 2015, they hit the headlines for targeting Chelsea fans both inside and outside the same stadium which will host this weekend's final.
There have been genuine concerns the die-hard thugs will use this weekend's showpiece match to make a name for themselves.
It's feared they will want to get "one up" on the Russian yobs - who terrorised English fans in Marseilles during Euro 2016.
Liverpool and Real Madrid have reportedly received an allocation of 16,626 tickets each for the final.
But the impressive 70,000-seat venue is surrounded by bars and social clubs frequented by Kiev's hooligan firms.
The news of tonight's attack will send shivers down the spine of many of the Merseyside club's fans who were attacked by AS Roma fans during both semi-final legs.

Roma fan pleads guilty to violent disorder charge in relation to attack on Irish Liverpool supporter Sean Cox - 24/05/2018
Source: https://www.thesun.co.uk/
Italian national Daniele Sciusco, 29, has been remanded in custody as he awaits sentencing
A ROMA fan has pleaded guilty to a violent disorder charge in relation to the attack which has left Irish Liverpool supporter Sean Cox fighting for his life.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Italian national Daniele Sciusco, 29, has been remanded in custody as he awaits sentencing.
The Meath dad, 53, remains in a coma after suffering a severe bleed on the brain before his side’s Champion’s League semi-final clash against AC Roma on April 24.
Filippo Lombardi, 21 also appeared in Liverpool Crown Court today where he pleaded not guilty to violent disorder and inflicting grievous bodily harm on Mr Cox.
He will now stand trial in Preston this October.
Both men appeared in court via video link from HMP Preston where they have been remanded in custody since their arrest.
Dad-of-three Cox remains in a critical condition at the Walton Neurologial Centre in Liverpool.
His family say they have been “overwhelmed and humbled” by the support they have received since the attack.
In a statement released earlier this month his family thanked medical staff and police for their hard work.
They said: “From the wonderful medical staff at the Walton Centre who continue to care for Sean to the highly dedicated officers of Merseyside Police who have assisted us from the moment we arrived, it has been a great comfort to know that we are in such good hands.
“There are no words to describe the gratitude we feel to the ordinary people of Liverpool and Ireland who have taken Sean to their hearts in a way that underlines why those places have such a deserved reputation for generosity and solidarity.”
Liverpool paid an emotional tribute to the Dunboyne man after eliminating Roma to set up this Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev.
As players celebrated their 7-6 aggregate win they posed with a giant banner reading: “Sean Cox, you’ll never walk alone.”
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson then walked towards the supporters to give them the banner to hang from the stands.
