Lyon file a complaint amid growing tensions with Marseille - 04/05/2018

Source: http://www.marca.com/

On Friday, French club Lyon announced they have filed a complaint after provocations from Marseille fans, who have threatened to destroy the Stade de Lyon during the day of the Europa League final between Atletico Madrid and Marseille.
Marseille supporters took to social networks to express violent slogans targeting Lyon, which has resulted in the club taking action by filing a lawsuit for incitement to criminal damage.
"Due to the danger that this inadmissible behaviour may entail, Lyon have decided to resort to the prosecutor's office of the Court of Lyon to present a claim for provocations related to the crime of destructive and dangerous actions from the supporters," the club explained in a statement.
In addition, French media have reported that Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy also joined in with the provocative messages against Lyon.
"We are in the final and we will destroy everything in your stadium," the former Marseille player allegedly chanted in a video.
With the growing tensions between Lyon and Marseille, French authorities have announced the security at the match will be multiplied by three or four in order to keep everything under control.

Greek Police on Heightened Alert for Saturday’s Cup Final - 11/05/2018

Source: http://greece.greekreporter.com/

Greek police are on high alert for Saturday’s Cup final between league champions AEK and PAOK that will take place in Athens Olympic Stadium as thousands of PAOK fans are preparing to descend upon the capital from Thessaloniki.

On Thursday evening police intervened in central Athens to prevent clashes between hooligans from both sides.

Security forces are concerned that trouble may break out as an estimated 20,000 PAOK supporters will travel by bus and in cars.

According to police intelligence sources, hooligans are preparing to engage in pitch battles before and after the game.

In May 2017, AEK and PAOK hooligans clashed at the central Greek city of Volos prior to the cup final between the two sides that the Thessaloniki club won by a controversial refereeing decision.

Spanish referee

Meanwhile, the Greek Football Federation has taken the unusual step of appointing a Spanish referee for Saturday’s clash.

The federation announced on Thursday that 44-year-old David Borbalan would take charge of Saturday’s game, with two Spanish assistant referees.

A league match between the two teams in March was abandoned after a controversial refereeing decision which prompted the president of PAOK to charge onto the pitch with a handgun in his belt.

This led to the suspension of the league for more than two weeks and a warning from world soccer’s governing body to reform immediately or risk being banned internationally.

PAOK and its president were subsequently also sanctioned and the team had points deducted, ending their title hopes.

Greek Cup final WARZONE: 100 hooligans with bats attack football fans and burn their van

Season 17/18 - May - Page 2 180512082234932618

Dozens of hooligans, some of whom were armed with bats, ambushed five PAOK supporters near the Olympic Stadium just hours before kick off on Saturday afternoon.

The PAOK supporters were dragged from a white van they had driven to the stadium and beaten up.

Hooligans then set the van ablaze with Molotov cocktails before fleeing in Maroussi, a northeastern suburb of Athens.

All five PAOK fans injured in the attack have been taken to a local hopsital with minor injuries, according to Greek radio station Skai.

Some 17,000 PAOK are expected to make the trip from Thessaloniki to the capital on Saturday.

Many PAOK supporters arrived at the stadium in coaches under heavy police guard.

Police wearing riot armour and carrying shields have been pictured thronging the city.

Five PAOK supporters were taken to hospital injured and their van got burnt as they were attacked by some 100 AEK fans on their way to the Greek Cup final at the Olympic Stadium of Athens on Saturday afternoon.

Almost four hours before the evening kick-off, the group of AEK fans – some of them carrying bats – who were walking to the stadium spotted a white van carrying five or six PAOK supporters near the Olympic Stadium at Maroussi.

They forced the PAOK fans off the vehicle, beat them up and set the van on fire using Molotov cocktails. Five PAOK supporters were taken to Evangelismos hospital with minor injuries, according to Skai radio.

About an hour later there were fresh clashes reported on Kifissias Avenue, by the Hygeia hospital, between rival fans.

This follows a night of major violence in Athens city center, with one fan stabbed and eight police officers injured.

The bulk of PAOK supporters are arriving at the stadium by coach under heavy police escort.

Greek Cup final marred by chaotic crowd trouble as fans clash with police while nine-man PAOK beat AEK Athens

Nine-man PAOK beat champions AEK Athens 2-0 to clinch the Greek Cup on Saturday after fans from both teams clashed with police outside the Olympic stadium ahead of the game.

Greek authorities deployed some 5,000 officers to safeguard the game, a repeat of last year's final at which fans also clashed.

Police had to use tear gas to keep the fan groups apart after about 35,000 spectators began arriving at the stadium two hours ahead of kick-off. Fans threw stones and lit fires before police managed to contain the trouble.

A league match between the teams in March was abandoned after a controversial refereeing decision prompted the PAOK President to charge on to the pitch with a handgun in his belt.

PAOK and their President Ivan Savvidis were subsequently also sanctioned and the team had points deducted, ending their title hopes.

Greece is also facing a potential international ban from FIFA, which will next month discuss the state of football in the country.

Shrewsbury - Charlton Athletic - Play-Off - 13/05/2018

Source: https://www.shropshirestar.com/

Pepper spray used on fans at Shrewsbury v Charlton

West Mercia Police said the PAVA spray was used "to prevent a small minority of poorly behaved people from confronting one another" during the match at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Rival fans were kept apart by stewards and police when Carlton Morris scored to give Town a 2-0 aggregate lead in the 58th minute on Sunday.

Video footage taken in the North Stand (Pro-Vision CCTV Stand), where 1,568 Charlton fans were watching the game, showed police working to keep sections of the away support away from the celebrating Shrewsbury fans in the corner of the West Stand.

A police spokesman confirmed the spray was used on fans thought to be supporting Charlton.

Superintendent Paul Moxley said: "Following disorder involving a small number of people at today's Shrewsbury Town v Charlton Athletic play-off match, police officers were required to assist stewards to prevent a small minority of poorly behaved people from confronting one another.

"Due to the deteriorating behaviour of a small group of individuals, PAVA (commonly known as pepper spray) had to be deployed to restore order.

"We will be analysing CCTV footage of the disorder in an effort to identify those responsible and will take robust action where individuals are identified.

"This type of behaviour from a small minority impacts on the enjoyment of the vast majority of genuine supporters and it will not be tolerated.

"As is always the case following any use of force, a review will be undertaken to ensure it was proportionate."

A 30-year-old man from London was arrested at the ground on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody.

EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL : Mirasierra: "The problem in Madrid was with the police not Atleti fans" - 14/05/2018

Source: http://www.lemonde.fr/

The well known Olympique Marseille ultra spoke to Onda Madrid and admitted that he was surprised by Zidane's show of support.

Season 17/18 - May - Page 2 180514014528188392

Santos Mirasierra, the well-known Olympique Marseille ultra detained by Spanish police in 2008 following incidents at the Vicente Calderon spoke to Spanish radio station Onda Madrid as worries focus on the Europa League final in Lyon with threats emerging from certain OM supporter groups that they plan to "destroy Lyon".

What happened at the Vicente Calderón ?

I was trying to protect our banner from being taken away by the police who claimed it was of a racist nature. Anyone who knows our group will testify that this is far from the case. I was trying to protect a female member of the group and the police claim I attacked them with a seat which was a lie by the authorities.

How long were you in prison for ?

In Spain for two months and then four months in France and I had a stadium ban for a year.

Were you surprised that Zidane spoke out in your favour ?

I never met with Zidane and admit i was surprised when he defended me. Having said that he's from Marseille despite having never played for OM and knows many people connected with the club.

Do you envisage problems at the Lyon final with Atlético fans ?

What happened in 2008 was not with supporters connected with Atlético Madrid but with the police. The media later came out with all sorts of stories but nothing happened.

They say the Marseille ultras are the most violent in Europa, is that the case ?

It's far from the case. In Spain it's perceived that if you light a flare, then you must be of a violent nature. violence is focused on fighting, not pyro displays.

A group of angry fans forced their way into Sporting Lisbon’s training centre on Tuesday and assaulted its players and staff, the club said.

Public television RTP reported that around 50 intruders, who had covered their faces to not be identified, interrupted practice and assaulted a number players and staff.

RTP showed an image of bloody wounds to the head of Sporting’s Dutch striker Bas Dost and of a changing room that had been trashed.

Sporting confirmed the incident in a statement condemning what it calls "acts of vandalism and the attacks on (our) athletes, coaches and professional staff."

The club did not immediately respond to calls and emails from The Associated Press.

The Portuguese league also condemned in a statement "the violent acts the players and coaching staff of Sporting Lisbon were subject to today."

"The perpetrators of these incidents are not fans of football, they are criminals," the league said.

Sporting’s training centre is in Alcochete, about 20 kilometres south of Lisbon.

Sporting missed out on a Champions League berth for next season after a loss in the last round of the Portuguese league cost it a second-place finish last weekend.

It is preparing to play the Portuguese Cup final against Aves on Sunday.

Marseille fans clash with police after Europa League final defeat to Atletico Madrid in Lyon

MARSEILLE hooligans clashed with police after their Europa League final defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Footage shows blazes in the middle of smoke-filled streets in the southern French city as fans hurled missiles after the match.

Riot police made at least 33 arrests across France as football fans went on the rampage following Marseille's 3-0 loss to Atletico Madrid.

There were 21 arrests in and around the 59,000 Groupama Stadium, where the game was played, for offences including ‘aggravated violence’ and ‘rebellion’.

A further 40 were ejected from the ground after forcing entry without tickets, and then threatening others.

The ‘vast majority of those arrested were from Marseille', although local Lyon thugs also turned up to fight, said a local police source.

Supporters were seen wearing Marseille's blue and white colours, but there did not appear to be any Atletico Madrid fans involved.

Police fired back with tear gas as the crowd dispersed in Marseille.

In Marseille itself, thousands converged on the Old Port after the final whistle and started to set fire to bins and cars, and smashed shop windows.

This was where England fans fought running battles with their Russian counterparts before a European Championship tie two years ago.
