England : Football fan fined after Middlesbrough Train Station incident following Leeds v Boro game - 01/05/2015
Source : http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/
A football fan has been fined after an incident at Middlesbrough Railway Station following Boro’s clash with Leeds United earlier in the year.
Luke Metter, 20, of Worcester Close, East Ardsley, Leeds, sent a letter to Teesside Magistrates’ Court pleading guilty to an offence of unacceptable behaviour on the railway, before his sentencing yesterday.
In the letter, Metter, who was said to be of previous good character with no previous convictions, expressed “deep remorse for any offence caused”.
The incident happened at 3.10pm, after the game, which Boro lost 1-0, on February 21 this year. A police officer arrested Metter after being told he had been abusive.
District Judge Martin Walker fined Metter £80 with £20 costs in his absence.
Judge Walker said he was giving Metter full credit for his guilty plea and took into account his previous good character.
But he said: “Any disorder in a football situation can give rise to further trouble.”
The British Transport Police (BTP) recently held a summit about the policing of football fans on trains, which heard from members of the public and rail staff who have experienced the intimidating and frightening behaviour of fans whilst travelling on trains.
A BTP spokesman said: “The general message is that we take a zero tolerance approach to unnacceptable behaviour from football fans on the railways.”

Polish fan killed by rubber bullet
A soccer fan in Poland has died after being hit by a rubber bullet when police tried to quell violence between rival supporters on Saturday.
The lower league match between Concordia and Ruch Radzionkow in Knurow, Silesia was disrupted by fans throwing fireworks onto the pitch and the referee abandoned the game before half-time.
Police said they then intervened to separate fighting fans, who then turned on the officers.
A police spokesman from Gliwice confirmed the man had been hit by a rubber bullet.
Police also said they were attacked by a group of around 200 people at the hospital where the fan had been taken, leaving four officers injured.
Riot in Poland after cop kills football fan during match
Some 200 people rioted and clashed with law enforcers on Saturday night in southern Poland as a football fan died after getting wounded by a rubber bullet. A crowd had wanted to interrupt a match between two local teams prompting police response.
The city of Knurow was hosting a match between two local teams on Saturday - Concordia (Knurów) and Ruch (Radzionkow). During the game, a brawl between the fans descended into the pitch as stones and fires were pelted from the benches.
Police opened fire fearing further clashes between the rival groups, police spokesman Andrzej Goose said. A rubber bullet wounded one of the fans into the neck. The 27-year-old was taken to hospital where he died several hours later.
At around 23 pm local time (21 GMT) football fans began assembling near the hospital, reports RMF 24. This grew into clashes with law enforcers guarding the hospital entrance. Some fans had Molotov cocktails, said police spokesman Mark Slomski.
ourteen police were injured in the clashes, reports TVN24. Following the attack, the rioters dispersed. Since then several people have been detained, while police continue searching for the attackers.
Knurow in southern Poland is home to some 40,000 people, according to a 2006 census.

Wolverhampton football fan attack: Police hunt for new suspect - 02/05/2015
Source: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/
Police release CCTV images of man they want to question over attack which left Watford fan Nic Cruwys fighting for life
Detectives are hunting this man in connection with an attack in Wolverhampton which left a Watford fan fighting for his life.
Victim Nic Cruwys, aged 44, was attacked by a group of men on March 7, following a game between Wolves and Watford.
Mr Cruwys’ condition has slowly improved but his family say he faces a long road to recovery and could be left with a lasting brain injury.
A total of 11 teenage men and boys from the West Midlands have already been arrested over the assault and are currently on bail while inquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant Adam Keen said: “Understandably, this assault is having a huge impact on Nic’s wife and children and they are still trying to adjust to life without Nic at home.
“While they remain hopeful he will recover fully from his injuries, there is the possibility he will suffer a lasting brain injury and this long term uncertainty is obviously extremely worrying for them.
“With this in mind, we’d urge the man in the CCTV image to do the right thing and come forward. I can assure them this matter will not go away.
“Similarly, if anyone recognises him, please don’t protect him out of some misguided sense of loyalty − we need to know who he is”
Anyone who knows the man can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Blackpool game abandoned after fans invade pitch
Blackpool's Sky Bet Championship match against Huddersfield had to be abandoned after supporters invaded the pitch and camped out in the centre circle in protest at chairman Karl Oyston.
Three minutes into the second half hundreds of disgruntled Seasiders fans poured on to the turf at Bloomfield Road, forcing referee Mick Russell to take players from the two sets of sides off.
A flare was set off while fans also held up banners against Oyston, who watched on from his seat in the West Stand, for his already-relegated side's final game of the season.
Saturday had been dubbed 'Judgement Day' by disgruntled Seasiders fans in response to Oyston's August declaration that naysayers should "judge us at the end of the season".
A pre-match march was also organised by Blackpool Supporters' Trust and the Tangerine Knights.

Police fire percussion grenades as fans riot in Brazil’s World Cup stadiums
Police fired percussion grenades inside the Estádio Castelão as fans fought at the 2014 World Cup stadium on Sunday following the end of the Ceara state championship final. The 2-2 draw gave the title to Fortaleza, who had beaten their city rivals Ceara 2-1 in the first leg last week.
Fortaleza fans invaded the pitch to celebrate but attacked their rivals with sticks, seats and even parts of the stage being prepared for the prize-giving ceremony. Police fired smoke bombs in a bid to try and clear the pitch.
“The stadium’s infrastructure wasn’t made for Brazilian football fans,” Lt Col Aguinaldo, the commander of events policing for the state police, told the Globoesporte web site. “It’s easy for fans to invade the field like this. Holding back a rebellious mob is difficult.”
The 63,000-seat stadium was completely rebuilt for the World Cup last year and hosted six games, including two that featured the host nation.

Unrest in Polish city after football fan killed by police - 05/05/2015
Source: http://news.webindia123.com/
Police from Knurow, in southern Poland, arrested nine people on Tuesday after riots broke out on Monday night following the death of a football fan, allegedly killed by a rubber bullet fired by security forces.
Groups of fans attacked the police with Molotov cocktails, rocks and metal objects, Efe news agency cited police spokesman Andrzej Gaska as saying on Tuesday.
Unrest continued for the third consecutive day between rioters and police forces, while 30 people were arrested on Monday.
The 27-year-old Knurow fan is thought to have died when police attempted to control fans rushing the Concordia Knurow field during a Polish league match against Ruch Radzionkow on Saturday; the local team won 4-1.
Police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the fan's death.

Brazil : Police officer arrested over killings of eight Brazil soccer fans - 07/05/2015
Source: http://www.irishtimes.com/
Authorities in Brazil have ordered the arrest of one serving and one former police officer suspected of carrying out the murder of eight supporters of São Paulo football club Corinthians last month. The former policeman already has a conviction for receiving stolen goods after being arrested in a stolen car while carrying an unmarked firearm. The two men were recognised by survivors of the attack on the “Pavilhão 9 Torcida Organizada” (organised supporters) group. A second former officer is suspected of being the third man involved in the attack. Investigators are looking into whether a dispute over drugs or debts between the president of Pavilhão 9 and criminal elements linked to São Paulo’s police force provoked the killings.

Police in Nuremberg arrested 125 people on Sunday as they gathered in the city centre shortly before the afternoon's football match against Eintracht Braunschweig (Brunswick).
The Braunschweig supporters, many of whom hid their faces from the police with hoods or masks, were carrying metal and plastic sticks, a police report said.
When the police ordered the group to stop so they could be checked for identity and weapons, they refused to obey, choosing instead to flee.
Police reinforcements arrived and were able to stop the hooligans' escape using pepper spray and truncheons. Nobody was hurt during the clash.
A search at police headquarters once the men had been brought in revealed four illegal knives and 22 metal and plastic sticks, as well as gumshields and balaclavas.
Two of the men had also been carrying drugs.
The whole group was kept in custody until the end of the match and released at around 4.15 pm, before being escorted to their cars and onto the Autobahn (motorway).
Police are officially investigating six of the men for drugs and weapons offences, as well as for insulting officers.

Preston - Chesterfield - Play-off - 10/05/2015
Source : http://www.theguardian.com/
Chesterfield’s Ian Evatt ‘punched, kicked and spat on’ by Preston fans
The Chesterfield captain, Ian Evatt, has called for more protection for players after claiming he was punched, kicked and spat on by Preston North End fans after his side’s 3-0 defeat in Sunday’s League One play-off semi-final second leg.
Evatt, who played for Preston’s rivals Blackpool between 2006 and 2013, said he was attacked after the final whistle at Deepdale as fans invaded the pitch to celebrate Preston’s 4-0 aggregate victory over Chesterfield.
“It’s well reported I’m an ex-Blackpool player,” the 33-year-old told BBC Radio 5 Live. “After the final whistle the Preston fans invaded the pitch. I was gathered around by a couple of hundred fans at least, shouting abuse, spitting. I got hit and kicked a couple of times.
“[It was] more than pushing and shoving,” Evatt said. “I’ve reported it to the police and Sky Sports have given the police the footage of the two guys who threw the punches.
“To be honest, it’s so disappointing. How long will this go on for until there’s a real serious incident? It’s too easy for fans nowadays to invade football pitches. Something needs to be done about it.
“The more it goes on, the more likely there will be a serious offence and a serious injury to a player.”
Evatt also took to Twitter to voice his concerns, calling the scenes at Deepdale “a disgrace” while he said he hoped “those responsible are locked up!!”
Crowd-related incidents have become more prevalent in recent months. Aston Villa were charged by the FA for failing to prevent spectators encroaching on the pitch after beating their Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup sixth round on 7 March.
Following the events at Villa Park, in which 17 men were arrested, West Brom expressed their “deep concern” for their players’ safety. Callum McManaman, a substitute, had to be restrained by a team-mate from retaliating after being provoked by gloating Villa fans.
Reading were also charged for failing to control their fans after a pitch invasion in their FA Cup sixth-round win over Bradford in March and riot police were deployed at Rotherham in February after Millwall supporters tried to reach home fans during their side’s 2-1 defeat. In South Africa on Saturday, a Kaizer Chiefs fan was shot dead during a pitch invasion after reportedly trying to disarm a police officer.
Preston are yet to comment. They will face Swindon or Sheffield United, who play their semi-final second leg on Monday, in the League One play-off final.
Chesterfield said Evatt had given a statement to police over the alleged attack. Inspector Steve Bradshaw, of Lancashire Police, said that “while the player was thankfully not seriously hurt, police are investigating the assault, including reviewing CCTV footage”.
Chesterfield’s assistant manager, Leam Richardson, said Evatt had not been hurt in the alleged attack and he also condemned the incident.
“The rivalry, you can’t underestimate that but to lay hands on people as supporters and men is a disgrace,” said Richardson. “Ian’s fine. He did not react, categorically not. He never reacted. He was surrounded by a few thousand but he’s conducted himself very well.
“He’s an emotional kid anyway, Ian, and he’s disappointed with the outcome of the two legs. And you are disappointed with the outcome of one or two individuals.”
