| Lincoln City FC - Grimsby Town FC - 30/08/2008Source : Lincolnshire Echo Only six arrests as derby match policing hailed a successThe local derby between Lincoln City and Grimsby passed off peacefully after a heavy police presence made itself felt. Matches between the long-standing rivals have been plagued with problems, and in 2006 hooligans went on the rampage through the city centre. But this year all was calm and there were just six arrests. A one-all draw ensured there were no winners or losers and with five players booked, there appeared to be as much tension on the pitch than off. Lincolnshire Police's football intelligence officer Andy Pearson said that six arrests were made - three were for a pitch invasion and a further three for minor public order offences. "It was a large police operation which has been very successful," he said. "In the past there has been trouble between the two teams but the Grimsby supporters were ushered onto buses and trains straight after the game." Lincoln city supporter for 42 seasons, Chris Maidens (54), said: "Previously it has been a free for all but the police were a bit more wised up to it this weekend." Lincolnshire Police's presence was enhanced by intelligence officers brought in from Humberside Police and officers from the British Transport Police. Four mounted police officers were deployed from Nottinghamshire Police. For more on the game, including a full match report and analysis, see Monday's Echo. | |

| AS Roma - SC Napoli - 31/08/2008Source : ESPN (Reuters) Napoli fans take over train and fight with policeNaples fans fought with police and railway workers when they boarded a Rome-bound train without tickets on Sunday, police and railway officials said. Passengers were forced to disembark, four railway workers were slightly injured and the interiors of several carriages were damaged. The fans effectively occupied the train in Naples and, after they refused to get off, police advised regular passengers to disembark and take other trains. Police ordered the train with the fans to leave Naples for public security reasons, the railway officials said. The train left some three hours late and more minor scuffles were reported outside Rome's Olympic stadium between police and Naples fans. Passengers, who had to change their plans, were outraged. 'It is disgusting that a group of thugs could be allowed to do this to us,' one woman who had to change her travel plans told an Italian television station. Pics: repubblica.it************************************************************* Source: Goal.com Napoli Fan Arrested; Weapons SeizedRoma and Napoli played a good match of football at the Stadio Olimpic which ended 1-1, Alberto Aquilani putting the Romans ahead before Marek Hamsik equalized for the visitors, however the rivalry was not only on the pitch, it seems. Unfortunately, a young man was arrested after the proceedings. One of the fans was arrested after the match for possession of a knife. The 22-year-old was confirmed to be a Napoli supporter. Also during the match in Rome, the Roman police found and seized several weapons. Knives, fireworks, flares, and even a hammer among other dangerous items were taken by police from the nearby Napoli supporters section. Football related violence has been a much discussed topic in Italy, especially after events in February of 2007 that led to police officer Fillipo Raciti losing his life in Sicily. That is not an isolated incident, as over the years stadium security and fan violence seem to have become more and more of an issue. Last season, for instance, some of the matches saw travelling fans banned from the stadium by the Lega Calcio in anticipation of problems that could occur. Italy's constant problems of fan violence is thought to be one of the reasons that their bid to host the Euro 2012 tournament failed. | Rochdale AFC - Bury FC - 30/08/2008
Source: forum - Bury view
The bobbies were more than willing participants. We've all seen it before but yesterday they went too far. One lad was knocked clean out with a batton by one bobby from the back of the head, while another twatted him from the front. There was a few carried off. Another lad was run over by a bobby van. A few more had to check in the hospital this morning.
We were escorted four miles from Rochdale to the outskirts of Bury. That four miles seemed like 20 miles with black and blue legs. It was going off with the cunts all the way. There was hardly anyone left by the time we'd got back to Bury.

| Spain : Sporting Gijon - Getafe - 31/08/2008
Source : The Canadian Press
Gijon fined for fans' racist taunting in Spanish league game
Sporting Gijon was fined for its fans' racist taunting of Getafe's Ecuador forward Joffre Guerron in their Spanish league game last weekend.
The Spanish Football Federation did not disclose the amount of the financial penalty on Tuesday, but in similar previous cases the sums have been modest.
Gijon said it hopes to avoid further outbreaks of racism at its matches.
Some fans made monkey noises at Guerron at the start of the second half at Gijon's El Molinon Stadium. Newly promoted Gijon, which lost to Getafe 2-1, was playing its first game in a decade in the top flight.
Referee Alfonso Perez Burrull briefly halted Sunday's game to ask club officials to take action. Gijon then made a loudspeaker announcement and the taunting stopped.
"We want to continue to be very radical on these things and Sporting will always act on any type of racist incident," Gijon president Manuel Vega Arango was quoted as saying by sports daily Marca on Tuesday. "You can't have a police officer for every supporter but you have to try your utmost that it doesn't happen again."
With Madrid bidding for the 2016 Olympic Games, authorities have tried to improve Spain's image by cracking down on racist incidents which have affected some sporting events over recent years.
In 2004, spectators directed monkey chants at black England players during an international football friendly against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid. Many believe those actions hurt the city's bid for the 2012 Olympics.
Spanish league football games have sometimes been marred by spectators' racist taunting, while British driver Lewis Hamilton endured the same treatment during Formula One testing in Barcelona in February.
