| Northampton Town - Leeds United - 09/02/2008Source : Northampton Chronicle & Echo 14 Leeds fans arrested for 'premeditated' violenceFourteen Leeds United supporters were arrested following a violent incident at a Northampton pub which police believe was "premeditated". They were arrested for violent disorder following the incident at a pub in Semilong on Saturday afternoon. Two more men were arrested for public order offences at Sixfields and a further two arrested for threatening behaviour in incidents surrounding the Coca-Cola League One match. Officers were called to an incident of violent disorder at a pub in Semilong and tracked the suspects to a pub in the town centre, which was cordoned off and contained, resulting in 14 arrests at about 4.30pm. Supt George Shipman, who commanded the police operation at the match, said: "The disorder happened at a pub well outside the area of the ground and I can only think this may well have been premeditated. "We had sufficient police on duty to deal robustly with all incidents and as a result we made a number of arrests." Police escorted a group of about 200 fans who had been drinking in town to Sixfields. Officers said it appeared the fans had underestimated the distance to the ground and the group was ushered by police in personnel carriers and mounted police, making them miss kick-off at the game. A further 10 fans were ejected from the stadium for being in areas of the ground reserved for home supporters. They made themselves known during the 1-1 draw when they celebrated Leeds' goal in the first half. | |

| Fans admit violence at PNE v Coventry match - 10/02/2008
Source : This Is Lancashire
Three Coventry City fans have admitted being involved in violent clashes which broke out after the club's match with Preston North End.
Daniel Rampton, 21, of Tomellis Court, Hayes Lane, Exhall, Michael Freeman, 23, of Harefield Road, Stoke, Coventry, and Sean Teeling, 18, of Clovelly Road, Wyken, Coventry, all pleaded guilty to affray, at Coventry Magistrates' Court on February 6.
They all pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour after the game at Coventry's Ricoh Arena on September 1 last year.
The defendants were arrested in January after police released CCTV images of 12 people they wanted to question in connection with the disturbance between rival fans.
Sentencing was adjourned until February 27.
They have all been granted unconditional bail.
Violence erupted following the match as fans threw stones at coaches full of North End supporters outside the ground.
One bus packed with PNE fans had a window smashed, and glass was cracked in another.
Two stewards suffered minor injuries in the disturbances, and several were verbally abused by supporters.
Another steward, Martin Harris, 51, who had been assisting with crowd control during the violence collapsed outside the ground and died in hospital from a heart attack.
But police have confirmed his death was not connected to the violence.
As well as a criminal conviction, police will be seeking football banning orders for anyone who is found guilty of being involved in the violent clashes.

| Two arrested following rugby violence - 12/02/2008
Source: http://www.thisischeshire.co.uk
FOOTBALL fans were responsible for violence which marred Warrington Wolves home opener on Friday night, according to police.
Officers say a group of around 20 or 30 Hull City fans were to blame for trouble which started in the second half of the Wolves' clash with Hull and then spread outside the ground.
Most of the problems started in the second half when the group tied scarves around their faces and pulled up hoodies.
When they left the game, members of the gang were then involved in a large fight outside the Lord Rodney pub which took police 45 minutes to clear.
Insp Andy Ross said he was now speaking to officers from Hull to further the investigation.
He added: "I am satisfied that Hull football fans were involved in this and we were hijacked by a group intent on causing disorder with Warrington fans or disorder with a group of football fans.
"Rugby league is a family oriented sport and the supporters are completely different from the culture of football.
"We are working very hard with Warrington Wolves to make sure events at The Halliwell Jones Stadium pass off peacefully.
"We were glad to have enough officers to resolve it."
Anyone with any information, particularly about any organisation, should call Insp Ross on 0845 458 0000.
Two men from Hull, aged 38 and 34, were arrested and will appear at Warrington Magistrates Court on February 28. One had been charged with affray and the other with public order offences.
The RFL meanwhile has announced they are investigating the trouble.

| Euro 2008 hooligans risk deportment - 13/02/2008

Swiss amend decree against night flights for security
Violent fans at the European Championship risk being flown directly home after matches.
The Swiss government amended a decree against night flights Wednesday to allow exceptional takeoffs for security reasons. "The first time this new regulation could be used is at the European soccer championship this June," the Federal Office of Civil Aviation said. "Potentially dangerous fan groups can be forced to fly to their home countries directly after a soccer game."
The previous rules prevented flights between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., with exceptions only for emergency landings, military machines, government-owned planes and rescue, aid and police services.
Euro 2008 will be co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland from June 7-29.

| Police hunt Sunderland-Newcastle derby hooligans - 15/02/2008
Source : South Tyneside Today
POLICE today appealed for help to catch four suspected football hooligans.
The men are wanted in connection with a number of public order incidents at the Sunderland v Newcastle United derby earlier this season.
Officers are asking members of the public for help to identify the men, who were involved in incidents outside the Stadium of Light and in Sunderland city centre on November 10 last year.
Police made a number of arrests on the day of the match, but they now need to trace several men.
Detective Constable Iain Saville, who is leading the investigation, said: "We have gathered together a great deal of intelligence on active football hooligans with the aim of ensuring matches remain safe and enjoyable for the vast majority of law-abiding fans.
"The release of these images is a timely reminder that Northumbria Police will not tolerate football hooliganism.
"The small minority of troublemakers who are intent on causing trouble and who bring the game into disrepute will be actively pursued and brought to justice, even though they have not been arrested at the time of their offence."

| Canaries' hooligan past remembered - 16/02/2008Source : Norwich Evening News By DAVID BALE Violence involving Norwich City fans is fortunately a rare thing these days - but it wasn't always the case. And now a new book has delved into the murky past of football hooliganism - recalling numerous tales of trouble between city and opposition fans. Hooligans 2 is a follow-up to the popular book Hooligans: The A-L and features the history of football hooligans at clubs alphabetically from M to Z. And its 10-page section on Norwich City is packed with incidents from football's bad old days. Colin Ward in his seminal terrace autobiography Steaming In said it was hard to find a punch-up in the city, but Andy Nicholls, co-author of the new book and an ex-football hooligan himself, said he understated the activities of the hooligan minority at Norwich City. He writes: “While they've never been in the Premier League of thugs, they have often been active. And the city's nearness to Yarmouth and relative closeness to London has ensured a steady stream of travelling mobs coming into town.” The book recalls that football disorder was first nationally noted at Norwich in 1967 when home fans clashed with Crystal Palace supporters. But Norwich hit the national news in December 1975 when the visitors were West Ham and their fans ran amok after the Canaries were awarded a penalty late in the game. As recounted in the book, dozens of Hammers fans had infiltrated the Barclay stand and remained unnoticed until the referee's decision. They then charged the home crowd. Hundreds of fans were forced on to the pitch to escape the fighting, though many of the injuries were caused when fans were crushed by the stand barrier. Thirty-one people were arrested and 34 injured and The Evening News said at the time the scenes resembled a “battlefield” noting it was “probably the worst instance of crowd trouble ever seen at Norwich”. Soon afterwards more trouble flared up when Manchester United visited, with fighting breaking out with locals soon after their arrival, with one United fan stabbed. During the game a United fan famously scaled the stand roof at the Barclay Stand and then fell through it, plummeting to the concrete terrace, only to be attacked by home fans as he lay injured on the ground. Thirty people, including eight police officers, were injured and 19 United fans were convicted following the game. Violence at Norwich continued down the years, though on most occasions it was caused by visiting fans, and police are now firmly on top, especially for the bigger games. THE OLD RIVALS The Canaries and Ipswich Town have been rivals for decades, and each match between the two sides, whose grounds are about 45 miles apart, is a potential flashpoint for trouble. In recent years, though, with the general behaviour of fans improving and policing levels stepped up, flare-ups have been few and far between. The book spends several pages detailing the fierce rivalry between the clubs. The rivalry flared up in 1985 when Norwich were drawn against Ipswich in the semi-final of the Milk Cup. Norwich fans got into the Pioneer Stand, where the Ipswich mob based themselves, and before long violence erupted. Ipswich won the game by a single goal, and at the return leg at Carrow Road, the Ipswich crew commandeered the Woolpack pub. But a heavy police presence prevented anything more than a few bottles before thrown. Another match in the early '80s saw Norwich fans occupy a pub close to Ipswich train station, well tooled up courtesy of some rubble from roadworks. Leaving the pub the Norwich fans were faced by a mob of 150 locals and missiles were exchanged. The trouble resurfaced last year when at least 10 Ipswich Town fans were arrested after being involved in a pre-arranged fight against Norwich supporters at Ipswich railway station on March 31. Canaries' fans returning from their game at Colchester clashed with Blues' fans who had been at home to Plymouth on the day. Both sets of fans are believed to have pre-arranged the violence and as the 7pm train from Liverpool Street pulled into Ipswich at 8.10pm the fighting broke out. Several people were assaulted including railway staff. Families with young children fled the violence as rival supporters clashed. The train had to make an emergency stop when Ipswich hooligans tried to get through the windows as it pulled away. | |

13 people arrested following disorder in Leicester
Police have launched a full investigation after serious disorder broke out in Leicester city centre towards the end of the Leicester City -v- Norwich football match this afternoon (Saturday February 16, 2008).
Officers attended the Loseby Lane area after reports of objects being thrown and damage being caused to premises due to fighting between two groups of fans, some of whom suffered minor injuries.
Thirteen men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Match commander Superintendent Chris Rollings said: "We believe a number of fans left the football ground early and made their way into the city centre. My officers responded quickly to the incident and a short while later a number of people were arrested. They are currently detained for questioning.
"The majority of fans are law-abiding and peaceful and just want to enjoy the match and support their team and we are determined to stamp out disorder such as this, caused by a small minority.
"I'd like to reassure anyone who saw the incident that a full investigation is underway and those responsible will be brought to justice.
"Finally, I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us, as your information could be vital to our enquiries."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leicestershire Constabulary on Leicester (0116) 222 2222. Alternatively, you may contact Crimestoppers which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

Arrests after football disorder Thirteen football fans were arrested as trouble broke out after Leicester's home tie with Norwich.
Officers were called to reports of fighting between rival groups of supporters at Loseby Lane on Saturday. Some men sustained minor injuries.
A police spokesperson said nearby buildings were also vandalised by fans who were throwing objects around.
Supt Chris Rollings said a full investigation was under way. The Foxes won the Championship fixture 4-0.
'Stamp out disorder'
"We believe a number of fans left the football ground early and made their way into the city centre.
"My officers responded quickly to the incident and a short while later a number of people were arrested.
"The majority of fans are law-abiding and peaceful and just want to enjoy the match and support their team and we are determined to stamp out disorder such as this, caused by a small minority, said Supt Rollings.

CLUBS URGED TO BAN HOOLIGANS AFTER CITY CENTRE BRAWL
Most of the 13 men arrested following a city centre brawl between football fans were not local, police have revealed.
Fighting broke out in the High Street and Loseby Lane area after Leicester's 4-0 home win against Norwich City on Saturday.
Shoppers and traders watched up to 30 thugs throwing stones at other fans, damaging property and chasing a group of men.
Others smashed up furniture and signs on the street, while some were seen with bloody faces in scenes described by one witness as "like something from a film".
Police believe the trouble began after a group of Norwich fans left the match early as their team was heading for a heavy defeat.
By 6pm, officers had arrested 11 Norwich fans and two Leicester fans for a range of offences, including violent disorder.
Nobody was seriously hurt. All have now been released on police bail.
Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to come forward.
Cliff Ginnetta, chairman of Leicester City Supporters' Club, today blamed the trouble on a "minority" of fans.
He said: "I never saw any trouble in the stadium or outside.
"It's sad there was trouble in town. This is something we want to stamp out in football.
"A lot of the fans would be shocked by this. We've not had any problems in the city for many years.
"The vast majority of Leicester and Norwich fans enjoyed the game and went away."
He called on both clubs to ban any fans found to be involved.
A spokesman for Leicester City Football Club stressed the violence happened "well away" from the Walkers Stadium, but said they would "fully co-operate" with the police investigation.

| Songs net ban for Hearts fan - 15/02/2008
Source: http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com
A HEARTS fan has been banned from Tynecastle after singing sectarian songs to Hibs supporters. Moray Laurie, 29, was "celebrating" his team's 1-0 home victory in last month's derby when he was overheard by police.
Laurie, of Bughtlin Loan, pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday to causing a breach of the peace and was fined £400 by Sheriff Fiona Leith.
The court heard that officials at Tynecastle had revoked his season ticket and banned him.
A Hearts spokesman said: "We will take action against any individuals who breach the club's acceptable behaviour standards."
