England : Manchester United hooligans slapped with banning orders after violent clash with rival fans - 01/02/2017
Source : http://www.messengernewspapers.co.uk/
TWELVE football hooligans who took part in an ‘extremely frightening’ clash with rival fans before a Manchester United match have been slapped with banning orders.
Manchester United and Sheffield United met in a third round FA Cup match at Old Trafford on Saturday January 9 2016.
Before the match, police kept their eye on a group of around 80 Sheffield United supporters who were inside a pub in the Northern Quarter.
The group left the pub and walked to the Ancoats area in the hopes of finding a group of Manchester United supporters.
When the Sheffield United group reached Bengal Street, a group of around 40 Man United supporters came out of a pub and a mass brawl broke out.
Footage captured by police showed punches were thrown and supporters goaded each other.
Two glass bottles were thrown at officers from behind a parked van but fortunately no one was injured.
Extra police officers were called in to keep the two groups apart and Sheffield United fans were issued with a dispersal order.
Manchester United supporters, 15 in total, were identified and summonsed to court.
Gareth Yates, 41, of Boothdale Drive, Audenshaw; Louis Bates, 24, of Kearsley Road, Crumpsall; David Kerr, 48, of Trevor Road, Burscough, Ormskirk; Conor Gavin, 25, of Sedgley Road, Crumpsall; Anthony Ewbank, 33, of Old Road, Failsworth; Simon Wale, 41, of Hesters Way Lane, Cheltenham; Jay Cornforth, 21, of Ashton Old Road, Beswick; Gary Singleton, 37, of Crown Street, Farington, Leyland; and Michael Hughes, 25, of Bollington Road, Manchester, were banned from matches for three years.
Gavin Pinder, 39, of Lord Lane, Failsworth; Karl Anderson, 31, of Woodward Street, Ancoats; and Lee Berrie, 27, of Heather Close, Burscough, Ormskirk, all received a five-year banning order.
Police Constable Alex Robinson, a GMP Football Banning Officer, said: “This was a violent incident which resulted in significant disorder and would have been extremely frightening for anyone who witnessed the events that unfolded.
“Thanks to police intelligence, officers were able to identify the potential for conflict and ensure the disorder was quickly brought to a close.
“The vast majority of supporters behaved impeccably before, during and after the match but, unfortunately, there can sometimes be a minority intent on causing trouble and seeking out confrontation.
“These 12 men fall into this category, but have now received significant banning orders which will stop them attending any match for a number of years.
"These orders should send a clear message to any supporter considering committing offences on a match day that they will be caught and dealt with robustly.”

Two Crystal Palace fans arrested during humiliating defeat to Sunderland
Two Crystal Palace fans were arrested during their team's humiliating 4-0 defeat to Sunderland this afternoon in the Premier League.
A teenage boy has been taken into custody after a firework was set off inside Selhurst Park during the game.
The Metropolitan Police have said the 16-year-old remains at a south London police station.
Another supporter was arrested after running on to the pitch to confront defender Damien Delaney.
Eagles supporters were left stunned when bottom of the table Sunderland scored four goals in the first half - three of them just before the half-time whistle.
After Jermaine Defoe netted the second of his quickfire double in first-half stoppage time, a supporter ran onto the pitch and confronted Delaney.
The fan ran up to the centre back and pointed at the Palace badge on his shirt, before being led away by stewards.
Other fans chanted "You're not fit to wear the shirt" at the Palace players as they made their way to the tunnel at half-time.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "A 23-year-old man was arrested at half-time in the Crystal Palace v Sunderland game, after running on the pitch.
"He was arrested under the Football (Offences) Act 1991 and remains in custody at a south London police station."

Police and stewards had to keep rival fans apart during West Brom 's win against Stoke .
Tempers flared at The Hawthorns during the Premier League clash as a goal from James Morrison earned all three points for the Baggies.
Tensions between the two sets of supporters were already high following Saido Berahino's return to his former club.
And it appeared to boil over in the stands, with security forced to form a barricade to keep the opposing factions apart.

Fans confront each other and smoke bombs thrown at U's derby game in Swindon
A SERIES of arrests have been made following today's derby clash between Oxford United and Swindon Town which sparked confrontation between fans outside County Ground.
Wiltshire Police confirmed five men have been arrested following the match which saw heated scenes outside the Swindon stadium before kick off with smoke bombs being thrown.
Three men were arrested after invading the pitch, one man arrested for a disorder offence and one man arrested for assaulting a police officer.
Wiltshire Police Supt Adrian Burt said: "Despite the actions of a small minority of attendees at the Swindon v Oxford match who were intent on causing trouble, the game passed without any major incident.
"The five arrested men remain in custody at Swindon Gablecross Police Station.
"Police were faced with some challenges in escorting a considerable number of Oxford fans into the ground, which necessitated the need to close roads for a short time to ensure safety for all. Any issues presented were quickly contained.
"We recognise that any issues were not caused by the loyal football supporters but by those who wished to disrupt the game and the enjoyment of fans."
Supt Burt added that 800 Oxford united fans were escorted back to the railway station peacefully and without trouble.
Police had ramped up their presence at the Swindon stadium for the game at midday and scuffles broke out from both sides ahead of kick off.
Flares were launched into the air and bottles thrown with some striking officers' helmets.
One fan was reportedly being treated by paramedics.
During the second half of the match feelings were running high and two fans thought to be Swindon supporters were seen to race onto the pitch before they confronted U's fans.
Stewards quickly grabbed the two supporters and led them from the ground.
Speaking ahead of the match and the potential for trouble Wiltshire Police said that the force would step up patrols for the match to stamp out on anti-social behaviour.
Superintendent Adrian Burt from Wiltshire Police, who is also match commander, said: “The public will notice an increase in police presence before, during and after the match and this is to maintain public safety whilst minimising community disruption.
“Body worn video cameras will be used by officers in order to support this event.
"The use of these cameras will help assist the police with capturing evidence for prosecutions in turn providing speedier justice.”
Police also issued advice to supporters who usually walk to the ground from Tesco’s as they will not be permitted entry on that route. Instead, they will have to find an alternative way to the ground.
Derby clashes between the two clubs have seen a number of fans arrested for anti-social beahaviour in the past.
At the home game between the two clubs in September six arrests were made by Thames Valley Police for minor disorders.

The build-up to Barcelona's Liga visit to Alaves was marred by violent clashes between the two clubs' fans ahead of kick-off on Saturday.
Wenger 'didn't see' handball incident
Police sources in Vitoria confirmed to Goal that factions of each sides' ultra groups were behind the incidents.
In a video taken in the Basque city, hooded assailants can be seen throwing chairs and attacking rivals with clubs before the game.
One individual was sent to hospital due to the injuries sustained in the battle, while police affirmed that so far there had not been any arrests made in connection with the events.
While the violent episodes were confined to a tiny fraction of the supporters, they raise concerns over the coming Copa del Rey final, which is yet to have a confirmed venue.

Authorities seized pyrotechnics, balaclavas, combat gear and drugs after stopping two buses transporting Dortmund supporters to Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Bollenfalltor.
The police stated that "around 90" fans had consequently been escorted back to North-Rhine Westphalia.
In a post on Twitter, Dortmund revealed they had been in contact with law enforcement regarding the issue.
A police statement read: "After the buses were located in the morning near Giessen, a check took place immediately.
"It quickly became clear that the passengers had other intentions in travelling to Darmstadt besides watching the match peacefully.
"Some of the passengers were already known for riots in connection with football matches.
"They were accompanied directly back to the county border in order to prevent further crimes."
Dortmund fans have been under the spotlight after 28 people were arrested in relation to attacks on RB Leipzig fans before last weekend's match.
BVB chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke vowed to punish the fans who were involved.
Dortmund have been ordered to close the Yellow Wall for one match and a €100,000 fine has been demanded by the German Football Association.

Police called to Birmingham City fan pub over alleged clash during live TV game
Police were called to a pub amid claims it was attacked by a mob of up to 30 youths as Blues fans watched their side on live TV.
The West Midlands force confirmed officers were sent to The Roost in Cattell Road, Small Heath , on Friday night.
Birmingham City supporters who were inside watching their team play away at Sheffield Wednesday claimed “bricks, stones and bottles” were thrown by a masked gang.
But a police spokesman said on Saturday there was no evidence of any damage to the pub, which is based near Blues’ St Andrew’s ground.
He said: “Officers found no signs of any damage to the pub or anything to suggest anyone was assaulted.”
A Blues fan who said they were inside The Roost at the time earlier told the Mail: “Me and my friends were enjoying a few beers getting ready to watch the game on the TV when a mob of 20 to 30 youths – all masked – attacked our pub.
“We went outside (and) they started throwing bricks, stones and bottles.
“We phoned the police.”
No-one from The Roost could be contacted for comment.

Germany : Dortmund to shut stand following hooligan attacks - 13/02/2017
Source : https://tribune.com.pk/
Borussia Dortmund will close their iconic south stand for this weekend’s home Bundesliga match, having accepted the German FA’s sanctions on Monday after hooligans attacked visiting fans a week ago.
The south stand, known as the ‘Gelbe Wand’ (Yellow Wall), holds 25,000 supporters at Borussia’s 80,000-capacity Signal Iduna Park stadium and will be closed for Saturday’s home league match against Wolfsburg.
Robben wants Bayern to ‘prove themselves’
Dortmund had until noon (1100 GMT) on Monday to accept the punishment handed out by the German Football Association (DFB) last Friday to close the stand and fine the club 100,000 euros ($106,379).
“After weighing up the arguments, Borussia Dortmund has decided to accept the DFB’s penalty and the drastic punishment of closing the entire south stand for the Wolfsburg match,” said Borussia in a statement. “We are also currently preparing measures and sanctions against the perpetrators as a consequence of the incidents and will present the results in the coming weeks.”
The heavy sanction has been handed out after hooligans threw stones and bottles at visiting RB Leipzig fans, including families with children, before a Bundesliga match on February 4.
Police made 28 arrests, four officers were injured and 10 Leipzig supporters were hospitalised for treatment due to the violence before kick-off.
During the game, some 60 banners bearing anti-RB Leipzig slogans, many of which were offensive, were held up by Dortmund fans in the south stand.
Dortmund bosses have apologised to their RB Leipzig counterparts.

Borussia Dortmund fans 'attacked by police and refused stadium entry' at Champions League game vs Benfica
Borussia Dortmund fans were attacked by Portuguese police 'without any reason', the official BVB supporters' club has claimed.
A supporter was pictures being treated for injuries outside of the Estadio da Luz ahead of Dortmund's Champions League clash with Benfica.
It was also claimed by BVB-Fanabteilung that members of their travelling support were refused access to the stadium for the start of the fixtures.
Pictures of crowds waiting outside of the stadium in Lisbon were tweeted by the supporters' club's verified account after the game had kicked off.
German television company DW Sports claim that the electronic ticket scanners at the stadium were not working ahead of kick-off.
It comes the day after Dortmund were ordered to pay a €100,000 (£85,000) fine and close their famous 'Yellow Wall' for one Bundesliga game as punishment for crowd trouble.
Violence broke out between supporters during a match against RB Leipzig at the Westfalenstadion on February 4, with home fans throwing objects and displaying banners including one that read: "Slaughter the Bulls".
The banner was a reference to Leipzig's owner, the Red Bull chief executive Dietrich Mateschitz.
Dortmund have accepted the sanctions from the German Football Association (DFB) and will close their famous south stand for an upcoming domestic match.
A statement from the DFB last week read: "Numerous banners and slogans with defamatory content were held up on the Dortmunder Sudtribune. In addition, filled beer cups were thrown and Leipzig players were targeted with a laser pointer.
"The control committee of the German Football Association calls for the closure of the south stand in a Bundesliga match (and a) 100,000 euros fine for Borussia Dortmund. The committee has now submitted a corresponding request to BVB."
Dortmund's south stand, nicknamed the "Yellow Wall", is the largest standing stand in Europe with a mammoth 25,000 capacity.

AJAX FANS ATTACKED IN WARSAW, POLAND BAR BY RIVAL SUPPORTERS
Two videos were posted on YouTube showing the aftermath of a group of Ajax fans being attacked by Legia Warsaw supporters in a bar in Warsaw, Poland. The Amsterdam club is playing against the Warsaw club in the Europa League on Thursday.
According to the Telegraaf, a group of 50 Ajax fans were in a bar called Chmury today when it was suddenly stormed by about 50 masked Legia Warsaw supporters. They first threw stones at the bar and then forced their way in. Once inside they threw tables and chairs. Surprisingly, no one was injured.
"They had gasoline and torches with them, the whole pub is destroyed. They had serious bows and arrows with them!" an Ajax supporter told AT5 after the attack.
A number of Ajax supporters claim that ADO Den Haag supporters were also part of the attack. According to the Telegraaf, ADO Den Haag fans are known to be friendly with the fans of several foreign clubs including Legia Warsaw, Juventus, Swansea City and Club Brugge. Website Groengee;hart.nl states that the relationship between ADO Den Haag and Legia Warsaw started 30 years ago.
Soccernews.nl reports that there were recently rumors about ADO Den Haag hooligans traveling to Poland to join a hardcore group of Legia Warsaw supporters in their hunt for Ajax fans.
The YouTube videos show a lot of damage was inflicted, including broken windows and destroyed furniture.
The Warsaw police are looking for the rioters, but so far no arrests were made.
About 700 Ajax fans will be watching the Europa League match in Warsaw on Thursday. According to the Telegraaf, a number of Ajax fans did not dare go to Warsaw for the match out of fear of disturbances.

WARSAW COPS FINE 80 AJAX SUPPORTERS
A group of 80 Ajax supporters were fined by the local police in Warsaw on Thursday afternoon, prior to the Europa League match between Ajax and Legia Warsaw on Thursday evening. The Warsaw police were on high alert after about 50 masked men attacked some Ajax supporters in a bar in the city during the early hours of Thursday morning, AT5 reports.
A photo posted on Twitter shows a group of Ajax supporters being surrounded by a police force near the Warsaw stadium. Reportedly the fans were heading to a Legia Warsaw supporter base. "We saw that there was a confrontation at hand and intervened", a spokesperson for the Warsaw police said to the Amsterdam broadcaster.
The Ajax fans were not arrested, but they were taken to the police station for disturbing public order. There they were searched, their documents were checked and they were each fined 500 zlotys (about 115 euros). It is unclear whether all of them made it out of the police station in time to watch the match.
A 22-year-old Ajax fan was taken to a police station for attacking a police officer. He wasn't arrested, but still could face up to three years in a Polish prison.
