Three of those charged are Polish citizens, reflecting the presence of large numbers of GKS Katowice supporters at the game. | Tight security for Red Star v Bolton UEFA Cup tie - 05/12/2007
Source : Reuters
Red Star Belgrade's UEFA Cup Group F match with Bolton Wanderers on Thursday will be played under tight security measures, Red Star spokesman Milan Boskovic told reporters on Wednesday. 'More than 700 security stewards will be in place and extra units of regular and riot police will also be deployed to monitor the fans,' Boskovic said.
'We want to make sure there are no incidents that could overshadow the match or derail our efforts to reach the knockout stage of the competition.'
A policeman was seriously injured at Red Star's ground on Sunday, during their Serbian first-division match with Hajduk Kula, when rioting fans battered him with burning flares.
'Anyone who violates the safe conduct code will be expelled from the stadium or stopped from getting in if it happens before the kickoff,' Boskovic said.
Red Star are bottom of the group with two defeats from their opening two matches and need a win to keep alive any hope of advancing to the last 32.
Bolton have three draws from as many matches and complete their group-stage campaign against Red Star.

| Riot police patrol training ground with tensions high at French league strugglers PSG - 06/12/2007Source : International Herald Tribune - The Associated Press Tensions are running so high at Paris Saint-Germain that riot police are patrolling the training ground. Tolerance has reached rock bottom among supporters, who feel humiliated as France's once glamorous club slides toward the second division while Lyon strolls toward a seventh straight title. Without a home win in the French league, PSG has slipped into 18th place ahead of Sunday's trip to Auxerre. "There are three matches before Christmas and we need to get three wins," PSG striker Pauleta said. "I understand the fans — it's the second season in which we're in a difficult position." Last term, PSG finished in 15th place and only staved off relegation in the last few games, with other results also going their way. Things were not supposed to get worse this season — but they have, and some fans are now at breaking point. A group of some 40 fans remonstrated angrily with players after training on Monday, prompting club president Alain Cayzac and France winger Jerome Rothen to act as peacemakers. Rothen was the focus of much vitriol after he was shown on French television on Saturday ripping up a letter that had been distributed by PSG fan groups urging players to try harder. Rothen apologized but the damage was already done. "I was (a PSG fan) before I became a player," Rothen told the club Web site. "I know what they are feeling." On Wednesday, eight vans of riot police where stationed in front of the training complex at Camp des Loges amid fears that a much larger group of PSG followers would be coming down to make their point to the players. The potential threat was taken seriously enough for several members of the police intelligence unit to be called in, said PSG's communications officer Jean-Philippe d'Halliville. They are there to help identify known troublemakers. PSG has long harbored a hardcore hooligan element with more than 300 thugs having been banned from attending matches. But PSG's training ground in the countryside around western Paris is easily accessible to the public. "We are waiting for them to come down," D'Halliville said on Wednesday. "There will be reinforced security all week." The deterrent seems to have worked for now. At Thursday's training session only a handful of police were present. The expected mass of troublesome fans did not come either Wednesday or Thursday, with a final training session Friday. On Thursday, a few police officials spoke with PSG stewards and officials to gather information about PSG's trip to Auxerre, where up to 1,400 visiting fans are expected. Trips to Auxerre have seen violence among PSG fans in recent years, with major disturbances two seasons ago when around 100 PSG thugs went on a rampage inside the stadium. PSG's 1-0 loss to Caen on Saturday was its fifth in nine home matches, with 14 goals conceded. For the first 15 minutes at the Parc des Princes, fans vacated two sections of the stadium in protest. One banner read: "Saignez vous pour nous, comme on se saigne pour vous" — or "Bleed for us, like we bleed for you". Fans have yet to turn on coach Paul Le Guen, however, mainly out of respect for his playing past. Le Guen was the engine in PSG's midfield in the 1990s, when the club reached the semifinals of the Champions League in 1995, won the Cup Winners Cup in 1996, and reached the UEFA Cup final a year later. But another defeat would intensify pressure on Cayzac to make a decision on Le Guen, who was appointed after Guy Lacombe was sacked in January. ************************************************************* Source : Glasgow Evening Times Paris gun cops guard Le GuenFRENCH riot police were called in to guard the training ground of former Rangers boss Paul Le Guen's Paris St Germain. | Ban for football yob - 05/12/2007Source : expressandstar.com A football yob said to be ‘management’ amongst Wolves hooligans has been banned from matches after writing about his exploits in a book. Carl Abbotts, aged 36, swore at police and was caught up in violent scenes surrounding games. The married father-of-two, who has never been convicted of any crime relating to football or violence, has became the first Wolves hooligan in years to be hit with a civil banning order. At Solihill Magistrates Court yesterday, police showed footage of Abbotts, which they said showed him either gesturing or throwing an object when his team played Birmingham City at Molineux on April 22. Sgt Chris Austin, of the West Midlands Police football disorder reduction team, said the group was “disorderly and intimidating”. He added: “Missiles were thrown from the group which contained Mr Abbotts. His sheer presence adds to the situation the police have to deal with.” He highlighted notorious Wolves hooligan Gilroy Shaw on the footage. Abbotts, of King Edward Street, Darlaston, is pictured in Shaw’s book, Gilly: Running With A Pack of Wolves, in which he wrote of a violent clash with Liverpool thugs. Sgt Austin told the court: “Much like Mr Shaw, (Abbotts) is intrinsic to the Wolverhampton hooligan group. By removing him, you remove a certain element of the organisation, the management of the group.” Abbotts was arrested after violence broke out involving Wolves fans in London’s Leicester Square in 2004, but was never convicted. In May this year he swore at a police officer and threatened him. Abbotts, who contested the police’s claims against him, produced a sick note excusing him from attending the hearing. Granting the three-year banning order district judge Nigel Cadbury said: “I’m satisfied that Carl Abbotts did cause or contribute to disorder.” | |

| Tight measures are paying off - 04/12/2007
Source : Kathimerini
The newly introduced security measures at Greece’s soccer grounds have begun to bear fruit. The identification by the police of the AEK hooligans who fired the flares on the pitch (similar flares have been fatal in the past) shows that the use of CCTV inside stadiums, combined with a quick police response, can help tackle the problem of soccer violence. Soon, stadiums should become safe for the real fans, not a small minority of hooligans.
However, the police should not leave the task half-finished. The absence of officers as witnesses at the trial of the suspected troublemaker is unacceptable. Police measures and electronic monitoring are not enough. The effort will be complete when the wrongdoer is brought to justice. Only this will send the message that the Greek state is determined to enforce the law.
Impunity is a green light for further crimes. The police and judicial authorities must not encourage the perpetuation of unlawful behavior.

| Two arrested over brutal stadium attack - 04/12/2007Source: B92 Two persons were placed in custody late Monday for attacking a plain clothes policeman during a football game Sunday. The incident, the brutality of which has shocked the Serbian public, happened at half time of the MSL match between Red Star and Hajduk Kula in Belgrade. The hooligans assaulted Gendarmerie inspector Nebojša Trajković, at one point trying to force a lit flare in his mouth, having previously burned his back and arms. Now a judge has decided to place the two suspects, Miloš Zimonjić, 21, of Sombor, and Belgrade resident Slaviša Drakul, 37, who is a Red Star employee, behind bars for a month, pending the results of an investigation that charges them with violent behavior at a sports venue. The third suspect, a minor whose identity has not been revealed, is also under investigation in a separate process, but has not been detained. If convicted on this charge, they could spend between three months and five years in jail. But when Interior Minister Dragan Jočić visited the policeman in hospital yesterday, he said the incident, described in much of the media as an attempt to lynch the officer, was an attempted murder. Jočić lashed out at the judiciary for their slow and inappropriate response to numerous criminal complaints filed against hooligans. "From January 2006 to July 2007, the MUP has filed 392 criminal charges, none of which have been dismissed. But there were only seven investigations, and eight indictments so far," said Jočić, who was at the military clinic, the VMA, along with Police Director Milorad Veljović and Gendarmerie chief, General Borivoje Tešić, to visit Trajković. Trajković is recovering from his injuries, which include multiple first and second degree burns and contusions of head and chest. In October, Serbia tried to stem the tide of violence in the sports venues that has in the past several years included fatal stabbings and mass riots with new, more rigorous legislation, which still falls short of the British model that dealt with the phenomenon successfully in the 1990s. But leaders of organized groups of supporters have voiced strong opposition to the new laws. Some analysts now see the unprecedented brutality of the attack against the officer Sunday as an expression of anger from the hooligans, over attempts to deal with the violence they cause, which has until now often gone unpunished. | |

| Policing op launched for derby clash - 04/12/2007
Source : Lancashire Evening Post
Police will launch one of its biggest football operations in Preston's history to keep rival fans apart before the crunch PNE-Blackpool clash. Just four days before the two sides meet for the first time since 2000, fresh details emerged about the huge policing initiative which will swing into action on Saturday.
Around 300 officers will be on patrol around the streets of Preston before and after the match.
The operation will be bigger than those put in place for games against Burnley and in recent play-off matches against Birmingham and Leeds.
Fans coming by train will be met at the station and escorted to the ground instead of being able to wander the city streets.
Away coaches will also be taken straight to Deepdale.
Sgt Mark Farnworth, of Preston police, said: "We will welcome the genuine fans who are committed to supporting their teams.
"However, if anyone causes disorder, or seeks to cause disorder, then we will make every effort to arrest them, bring them to justice and seek banning orders."
Officers have also been monitoring websites populated by people claiming to be hooligans from both clubs.
In a bid to avoid supporters drinking before the match, which kicks off at 12.30pm, pubs in the city centre have been told to close until midday, while those near the ground have been told not to open before kick-off.

| Police investigate ties between FA, Red Star, and mafia - 06/12/2007Source: B92 An investigation into a serious assault on a police officer has taken a surprising turn, media report. Sources high within the Serbian police (MUP) have revealed for the daily Politika that the background of the Sunday attack on a Gendarmerie inspector that is now qualified by the MUP as attempted murder, includes ties between the clubs and the criminal underworld. Three people are held in custody suspected of taking part in the Red Star stadium riot, including the 19-year old Uroš Mišić, arrested yesterday. Police say they identified Mišić as the person who inflicted serious injuries on Nebojša Trajković's head and neck, when he repeatedly hit the officer with a lit flare. But now, police say they believe there may be links between Red Star FC management, leaders of supporter groups, who often engage in violence, and drug dealers. The MUP source told the daily there was reason to believe Sunday's violence was a "welcoming" for Red Star's new president, Toplica Spasojević, who replaced Dragan Stojković, a.k.a. Piksi. Piksi, a former Serbian football star, is suspected of being behind the unrest. Police also say the club employees bring flares and other illegal pyrotechnics into the stadium several days in advance and distributes them to fans on the match day. Starting Tuesday, MUP has begun checking financial reports of clubs and the Football Association of Serbia. Inspectors investigating corporate crime are unofficially said to be engaged in checking documents related to multi-million transfer deals, many of which have apparently been mediated by well-known criminal figures. In this context, the MUP source quoted by the newspaper as "reliable", also made a connection between FA president Zvezdan Terzić and Branislav Mićunović, dubbed "the king of Montenegrin underworld", who is believed to have a hand in most of illegal dealings in Serbian football. Officially, the police have confirmed inspections, but would not reveal any details in the interest of the ongoing investigation. | |

| Bolton angry at fans treatment - 06/12/2007
Source: http://www.inthenews.co.uk
Bolton manager Gary Megson would have been worried about his fans
Bolton Wanderers have hit out at Serbian police after hundreds of their fans were held at a hotel and not allowed to go to the game against Red Star Belgrade.
The police have said that they had taken the measure to prevent possible crowd violence after Red Star Belgrade's fans were involved in crowd trouble at a match over the weekend which saw a police officer attacked with flares.
But Bolton say the club was not made aware of any possible actions that might be taken against their fans prior to them leaving for Belgrade.
A club statement said: "The directors, management, and players of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, wish to express their frustration and disappointment at the way the club's supporters have been treated upon their arrival in Belgrade ahead of tonight's Uefa Cup match.
"The club and its travel partner TMG share the anger and discontent felt by our supporters detained temporarily by the Serbian police at the Hotel National, without reasonable explanation, and sympathise with those who have subsequently been prevented from visiting Belgrade city centre before the match.
"All attempts to resolve this situation have been met with the response 'the matter is under consideration' from the Belgrade police."
The club also confirmed that five British police officers had accompanied their fans to Belgrade and were working on the theory that Serbian police might have received prior intelligence information regarding the safety of Bolton fans

| RSC Anderlecht - Tottenham Hotspurs - 06/12/2007Source: mail + teamtalk.com On local side, about 150-170 lads mobbed up, including faces from FC Brussels, KV Mechelen and Ajax. On Spurs side, also a presence from Groningen and Beerschot. No off before the game. *********************************************************** Crowd trouble mars Spurs joyAnderlecht face punishment from UEFA after Spurs ace Didier Zokora appeared to be struck by an object thrown from the crowd during their clash.Zokora needed treatment towards the end of the 1-1 draw at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium which sent Tottenham through to the last 32 of the UEFA Cup, with television replays suggesting he was hit by a lighter. Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson then handed what appeared to be a metal bar to the fourth official after the final whistle. "I played for four years in Belgium and they hate me," said Zokora, who played for Genk earlier in his career. UEFA could take action against Anderlecht - they fined them earlier in the season for crowd disturbances during a Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce. The home fans were angered by a series of decisions going against them. "Myself and Pascal Chimbonda went in to make a block challenge and then a few things were thrown, luckily enough they didn't hit me," explained defender Michael Dawson. "Didier went off and I am not too sure what hit him. For him to go off, something must have hit him. I could see some coins being thrown around me. "If you get injured in the game that is part of football but you don't expect that kind of thing to happen." Head coach Juande Ramos was himself a victim of fans throwing missiles during his time at Sevilla when Real Betis supporters targeted him. The Spaniard remained diplomatic on the incident, insisting he did not see it, but he said: "This is very bad for the players and those who work in football. "But I did not see what happened. We have to be left in peace on the pitch and you can't have objects thrown because somebody could get hurt." Ramos is still in the hunt for a hat-trick of UEFA Cups but admits his side needs defensive work if they are to be at Eastlands later this season. Zokora was part of a makeshift defence following the decision to leave error-prone Younes Kaboul at home. The Belgians were initially blunted during a first half that lacked excitement, but they showed more adventure in the second half and opened the scoring when Dawson allowed the ball to cross past him and Bart Goor smashed into the bottom corner. Spurs were level within three minute when Jermaine Jenas was brought down by Jelle van Damme and Dimitar Berbatov sent Daniel Zitka the wrong way from the penalty spot. Spurs will be mentioned among the favourites for the title but Ramos said: "We're far from achieving this. We have to wait for the draw, we have to get better because we look a bit vulnerable." Assistant boss Gus Poyet said there was calmness in the dressing room after the incidents that soured qualification. "I think it's not good for Anderlecht," he said. "It's nothing to do with Anderlecht, there are always a few people. "The lads were calm but they know how dangerous the situation could be." | |

"This sentiment is shared by the UEFA delegation, the Football Association, the British Embassy, the president of Red Star Belgrade and travelling British police. Strong and intensive representations to the Serbian police have been made continuously since this incident arose. "However, all attempts to resolve this situation have met with the response of "the matter is under consideration" from the Belgrade police. The actions of the Serbian police have been made entirely unilaterally and with no prior warning or agreement with Bolton Wanderers FC or other relevant parties. "Bolton Wanderers FC are fully aware of a crowd order situation that arose last Sunday (when a Serbian police officer was attacked with flares), and we do understand that this may have increased security issues for the local police. | Serbian police 'broke promises' - 07/12/2007
Source : Bolton News
POLICE chiefs from Bolton say Serbian authorities broke a string of promises after a trip arranged for hundreds of Wanderers fans to Belgrade ended in fiasco.
About 200 supporters on the club's official package for the UEFA Cup match were penned inside a roadside service station by armed guards for six hours amid fears they could be attacke dby rival fans The decision - made on the command of a local police general - sparked anger among fans and club officials.
Riot police were on standby for the game - which the Whites won 1-0 - after a weekend of fighting among fans in Belgrade which saw a plain clothes policeman badly injured.
advertisementChief Insp Peter Matthews visited the city in November and was given assurances that fans would be escorted from the airport and allowed to spend time in the heavily-policed "fortress" area of city ahead of the game against Red Star.
"It's disappointing that so many decent fans who had spent a lot of money found themselves in an unsatisfactory situation.
"We had firm assurances that fans would be taken from the airport to the city where they would be supervised by police from Bolton and local police before the game.
"The first I knew of any problems was when I was contacted by the travel company to say that the coaches were being taken elsewhere.
"I asked for a meeting with the police general but it was not until I saw him at the stadium that he explained to me that his decision was made for the protection of Bolton fans."
Chief Insp Mathews said there were no problems with Bolton fans in the city and rumours of a stabbing were completely untrue.
Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson said he hoped the result, which boosts the team's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages, would "appease" fans.
"It was not right people were kept in a paddock as they had done nothing wrong," he said.
"I have to thank them for coming. We were aware they had been kept behind and were not being treated as people should be in a foreign country.
"I am sure the police and the authorities made that decision in good faith but it was not right."
Supporters' groups have also criticised the actions of Serbian police and Red Star officials.
Kath Brown, of the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Association, said: "If it wasn't safe for the game to be held in Belgrade, the club's authorities should have arranged for it to be postponed.
"A lot of people had spent money expecting to go and experience the atmosphere and they will be disappointed."

| Arrests over Newcastle-Carlisle football violence - 07/12/2007
Source : South Tyneside Today
TEN suspected football hooligans have been arrested over violence at a Newcastle United pre-season game.
The arrests came four months after trouble flared at a friendly match between the Magpies and Carlisle United.
The men - all from the Newcastle area - have been arrested for public order offences and released on bail until January, Cumbria Police said.
The trouble started in a pub on the day of the match at Carlisle's Brunton Park ground on July 21.
The game, which finished 1-1, was briefly held up in the second half as a handful of home fans tried to get out of their section of the stand next to the 3,000-strong away following.
They were quickly overpowered by stewards and led away, but trouble was reported both outside the ground and in the city centre.
Last year, four arrests were made following problems at a friendly game between Carlisle United and Sunderland.

| Fans beaten and bruised - 07/12/2007
Source : The Northern Scot
INDISCRIMINATE baton blows, bottles, flares and even a burning motorcycle rained down on stunned Moray football fans in Spain last week.
Aberdeen supporters who travelled to Madrid for a European match were subjected to unprovoked attacks from neo-fascist thugs and sustained brutality by local riot police.
One Elgin man described how blood gushed from a head wound he sustained after being struck by a bottle hurled at him. Another fan from Moray witnessed a policeman swinging his baton at a defenceless young girl before clubbing her father on the head as violence escalated outside the city's Vicente Calderon Stadium.
The Dons diehards had travelled from various parts of Moray to the Spanish capital to cheer their team on during their UEFA Cup-tie against Atletico Madrid last Thursday.
Lossiemouth man Paul Davies (32), who owns the Lossie Inn bar in the town, told how he and a group of friends were enjoying a "really good day" until all hell broke loose as they made their way to the big match.
"I've never seen anything like it before," he claimed. "It only lasted for a few minutes but the police just made things worse.
"There was young boys getting a hiding for no reason at all – it was right out of order."
The Pittodrie season ticket holder, who regularly attends away matches, watched as his friend Bryan Attridge bore the brunt of a beer bottle thrown by a crazed local.
"We had just turned a corner and there was one boy by himself who threw the bottle at 'Barney'. He got hit clean on the head but the bottle didn't break.
"It was like a boxer's cut, and it was pouring with blood."
Mr Attridge (33) recalled being stunned by the impact and alarmed by the amount of blood, rather than any pain.
"I realised once I put my head down and saw the blood gushing out instead of just dripping that it wasn't good. But you're not sure when you've been hit by a bottle if there's somebody else going to follow that up.
"You don't know what's going on about you."
It is believed that a known group of extreme neo-fascist hooligans were intent on causing disruption among Scots supporters, and were alleged to have given Nazi salutes and made throat-cutting gestures.
During the day, the atmosphere in the city between the two sets of supporters had been very different as they mixed in friendly fashion and drank together in the Puerta del Sol square. But closer to the stadium, a "welcoming" committee of local troublemakers kicked off chaotic scenes.
A barrage of red flares were directed at the Aberdeen contingent as they reached the stadium, and the Athletico thugs proceeded to tip over a bottle bank and start hurling them across the street.
Mounted police soon arrived, while colleagues intervened with riot shields and batons to quell the violence.
Mr Davies said that rather than root out the instigators of the violence, they set upon innocent Dons fans caught up in the mayhem.
"There was a lot of confusion. With the flares going off you couldn't see anything for red smoke and the next thing you know, the bobbies came in about swinging their batons left, right and centre.
"There was a man walking with a girl of about eight or nine in his arms and this policeman swung, just missed the quine and on the way back hit the dad."
He said there was a clear divide between the two sets of fans but the police forced Aberdeen fans across on to the same side of the street. "If you stopped, you were hit on the back of the head with a baton."
"You were seeing maybe 50-year-old men having to push their bairns to one side."
Before the riot police acted, Mr Davies saw two young Aberdeen fans being beaten up by locals and said his group moved in to rescue the teenagers.
He also said that a female fan got trampled underfoot by a horse and had to be carried to an ambulance.
"Some of the younger boys just look devastated. It was chaos and the police didn't deal with it very well; they were heavy-handed."
Mr Attridge recalled being patched up by paramedics outside the stadium, and later was taken to hospital before getting back to his hotel in the early hours of the next morning. "There was a lot of fans in and around the stadium with blood on their heads. Some had been hit by bottles like myself, others had been hit by the bobbies or knocked down and dragged.
"I went up to one of the ambulances and they basically patched me up there. It was enough to see me through the game.
He ended up having six to eight stitches inserted into his forehead wound. "It was a shame really because it put a dampener on what had been a good day up until then."
Aberdeen Football Club has made an official protest to the Spanish authorities about the conduct of the riot police.

| Preston North End - Blackpool - 08/12/2007Source : Lancashire Evening Post Nine arrested in soccer violenceSoccer yobs went on the rampage smashing bus windows as trouble erupted prior to today's Preston North End and Blackpool derby. Several windows on one of three buses ferrying Blackpool supporters to Deepdale from Preston Railway station had been kicked in by hooligans. A seat was also ripped out and thrown through an empty window. Nine Blackpool fans were arrested and will be questioned today. Angry Preston Bus chiefs instantly said the damage would run into thousands of pounds. The derby game - the first between the two sides in seven years - sparked a huge police operation. Around 300 police officers are on duty outside the ground and in the city centre. Blackpool fans arriving at the railway station were shepherded on to the buses after going through airport-style security scanners to check for potential weapons. Police and stewards also frisked both sets of supporters as they entered the ground. Peter Bell, managing director of Preston Bus, said: "It is pretty disappointing, we put these buses on to help out the police. "We don't do it for business reasons we do it so people won't be wandering round the city centre and to try and avoid trouble. "We will have to carry 600 passengers to pay for the damage that has been done." A police spokeswoman said: "The bus was being escorted to the ground and it appears windows were kicked in and a seat thrown off the top deck. "Nine people have been arrested. We are investigating." ************************************************************* Source : Preston Citizen Football hooligans smash bus windowsFootball hooligans broke bus windows as trouble erupted before Saturday's Preston and Blackpool derby match. Blackpool fans ripped out windows and threw seats at police officers as they were ferried by bus from Preston railway station to Deepdale before the big derby clash with Preston North End on Saturday. A mob of 30 Preston fans later attacked a Blackpool pub with bins and bottles in a "revenge" mission as staff and customers cowered inside. Nineteen people were arrested as more than 300 police officers were drafted in to keep both sets of supporters apart during the first derby for seven years, which Blackpool won 1-0. Both clubs have condemned the yobs who took part in the violence and vowed to ban them for life. Trouble erupted when Blackpool supporters were ferried by a convoy of buses – laid on by Preston Bus – from Preston Railway Station to the ground before the 12.30pm kick-off. Yobs on the top deck of one of the buses ripped out four windows and tore seats from their metal frames before hurling them out of the windows. Shocked driver Paul Nelson, 42, said a police motorcyclist had to swerve to avoid being hit by the flying missiles. He said: "They were making so much noise I couldn't hear them smash the windows. "But I saw in my mirror a policeman on a motorbike who was escorting us to the ground swerving when one of the seats was hurled in his direction. If he hadn't moved, he would have been knocked off." More than five hours later, at around 6pm, a gang of 30 Preston fans tried to trash the Hop Inn on King Street, Blackpool, after being refused entry. Licensee Sharon Taylor said: "Around 30 of them turned up in a minibus and began picking bottles and bins up and throwing them through the windows when we wouldn't let them in. They were looking for trouble. "We locked the doors but the staff were worried. It went on for 20 minutes until the police turned up. "We only had our locals in. They were animals, not proper football supporters. It could have been a lot worse." A spokesman for Blackpool Police said: "The male football fans came over at about 6pm and there was a bit of trouble. "We escorted them all to the railway station and sent them back to Preston. No-one was arrested." Blackpool fans arriving by train were searched with airport-style security scanners to check for weapons. Police and stewards also frisked both sets of supporters as they entered the ground. Preston Bus say the damage to the bus could run into thousands of pounds. Three of the 19 arrested were charged with public disorder offences and will appear before Preston magistrates on December 19. Nine people were arrested at Preston railway station before the match kicked off – five for drugs related offences and four for public disorder. A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "We had the high-profile Operation Shield at the train station, which targeted both drugs and knife crime and football disorder on the railways. "There was a mixture of people arrested – some were football fans." Five of the men – who were all in their 20s and 30s – were given cautions and one was given a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly. PNE chairman Derek Shaw told the Lancashire Evening Post: "We are a family club and we will not be associated with these so-called fans. "If police recommend banning orders, they will get them." Matthew Williams, secretary at Blackpool Football Club, said: "We will be having a meeting with police today to discuss the events on Saturday. "We will not tolerate these people from tarnishing our club and we will be pushing for banning orders through the courts." *********************************************************** Source: http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk Violence kicks off in resort pub AROUND 20 football fans were involved in a mass brawl at a Blackpool pub after The Seasiders' victory at Deepdale. Police were called at about 6.10pm on Saturday to The Hop Inn, on King Street, after reports of people fighting and throwing chairs. One person was injured after around five Preston fans and 15 Blackpool supporters clashed inside the pub. Police said no actual damage was caused to the pub, but glasses were broken. A Preston fan was arrested and charged with a public order offence in connection with the incident. He was due to appear before Blackpool Magistrates today. The incident happened hours after yobs attacked a bus in Preston in run-up to the match. Two windows were smashed on one of the buses carrying Blackpool supporters from Preston Railway Station to Deepdale. Nine people were arrested and were due to be questioned in connection with the incident. A fight also broke out on Clifton Street, Blackpool, on Saturday night, but police said the incident was not believed to be football-related.

| UEFA Cup - Anderlecht face disciplinary action - 08/12/2007Source : Eurosport UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Anderlecht following the ugly scenes against Tottenham when Didier Zokora appeared to be struck by lighter thrown from the crowd.Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson also picked up a metal rod which he handed to the fourth official after the final whistle of the 1-1 draw at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in Brussels. "UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Anderlecht for the throwing of objects by spectators," said a UEFA spokesman. The Belgian side have already been fined for crowd disturbances during a Champions League qualifier earlier in the season against Fenerbahce and UEFA officials will take previous cases into consideration when they meet. The punishments range from a fine to expulsion from the tournament. "The control and disciplinary body will meet on December 13 to make a decision on this case," the spokesman added. Zokora claimed afterwards that he was targeted as he used to play for Anderlecht's rivals Genk at the start of his career, yet he also had cause for celebration as the point earned Spurs a place in the knockout stages of the competition. Spurs head coach Juande Ramos was hit by Real Betis fans when he was at Sevilla and although he did not see Zokora struck, the Spaniard said: "This is very bad for the players and those who work in football. "We have to be left in peace on the pitch and you can't have objects thrown because somebody could get hurt." | |

| PSG FURY OVER THREATS TO ROTHEN - 08/12/2007
Source : Sportinglife.com
Ligue 1 strugglers Paris Saint Germain have condemned what they have described as "extremely serious" threats against France winger Jerome Rothen.
According to a statement on the club's official website, www.psg.fr, a group of disgruntled supporters turned up at Rothen's home on Thursday night and confronted the player.
"PSG formally condemn the extremely serious threats which Jerome Rothen was subject to on Thursday night at his home as well as the actions committed against his car," the statement read. "These acts are inexcusable.
"We are sure true supporters of the club, though obviously upset at the current results and we understand their disappointment and sadness, would also condemn these odious acts which serve to further lower both their image and that of PSG."
PSG have yet to win at home this season and have slipped to 18th place in the league.

| PSG: Rothen needs bodyguards - 08/12/2007
Source : Setanta Sports
Paris Saint Germain star Jerome Rothen will be protected by the police for the trip to Auxerre after being threatened by hooligans.
PSG fans continue to make a bad reputation for themselves after Rothen was attacked at his home and threatened by several men.
The Parisian club are struggling for the second consecutive season and some brainless spectators prefer to scare the players rather than supporting them.
Police spokesman Michel Lepoix has revealed that the France international will be protected from now.
“We are going to take exceptional measures regarding the safety of the players and especially Rothen’s,” he said.
“This affair is very serious. We know that some people can threaten without the intention to act, but we remain prudent.”
Ligue 1’s president Frederic Thiriez has expressed his full support to the midfielder.
“I am revolted by what happened to Mr Rothen,” he said. “Why those people, who claim they are fans, insult and threaten the players when they are facing difficulties?
“Passion is not an excuse for stupidity.”

| Manchester: Ban for football fan - 07/12/2007
Source: The Bolton News
A FOOTBALL fan has been banned from games for three years after he became aggressive toward stewards who tried to throw him out of the Reebok Stadium.
Manchester United fan Patrick Moradyn, aged 48, of Knowsley Green, Oldham, was asked to leave the Reebok during the derby game last month.
Bolton Magistrates Court heard Moradyn became aggressive and was arrested after he squared up to a steward.
He admitted threatening behaviour and was fined £50 as well as being banned from games.
Moradyn told the court he was drunk and had never been in trouble during 30 years of following Manchester United.
In a separate case, Martin Corbett, aged 27, of Lytham Road, Blackpool, was fined £50 after admitting possessing alcohol in a sports ground.
He was seen drinking from a can of lager in the stands at the same game but was not banned from matches.

| Auxerre - PSG - 09/12/2007Source : The Canadian Press PSG fans clash with police before Auxerre matchRiot police used tear gas to repel about 100 visiting soccer fans Sunday before Paris Saint-Germain's 1-0 win at Auxerre in the French First Division soccer league. Peguy Luyindula scored the lone goal off a head ball in the 50th minute. Before the match, a high police presence was needed to stop some PSG fans from trying to break through barriers protecting the parking lot where the team bus was to arrive. The website of sports daily L'Equipe reported that police used tear gas to repel the hooligans. One police officer was hurt by a projectile, and three PSG followers were arrested, two for drunken behaviour and one for attacking a police dog. Luyindula's header off a cross from Jerome Rothen took PSG out of the relegation zone. All of PSG's four wins this season have come on the road. Rothen was given special police protection after angry fans visited his home and threatened him on Thursday. On Monday, a group of about 40 fans screamed angrily at training, prompting Rothen to act as peacemaker. Rothen was the focus of much vitriol after he was shown on television Saturday ripping up a letter that had been distributed by PSG fan groups urging players to try harder. This was seen as an affront by some supporters of the struggling club, which was in 18th place prior to Sunday's match. Tensions are running so high that eight vans of riot police where stationed in front of the training complex at Camp des Loges on Wednesday amid fears that a much larger group of PSG followers would be coming down. "It was very hard for us to live amid all this," PSG defender Sylvain Armand said after the win. "We tried to work as hard as possible to prepare this match and get the three points. "We saw a team that wanted to fight for each other, even shout at each other. That's what we've got to do to keep going." ************************************************************* Source : Reuters Around 150 PSG hooligans had fought with police before the match after a group waited for their own team's bus in a planned assault in "retribution" for poor performances this and last season. Rothen allegedly filed a legal complaint after his car was damaged in a separate attack last week. Reinforced security measures were implemented for the game, during which no incidents were reported.
