Six arrested over violent clashes between Crystal Palace and Brighton fans - 01/12/2012
Source : http://www.standard.co.uk
Police have arrested six men in connection with a brawl between rival fans of Championship football clubs last month. Violence broke out between Brighton and Hove Albion supporters and Crystal Palace fans in London after the two clubs were involved in separate fixtures on November 10. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Public Order Investigations Team, working closely with colleagues in Kent, Surrey and Sussex Police, carried out the arrests at about 5am today. Four of the men - aged 21, 23, 32 and 41 - were arrested in Sussex, while a 19-year-old and a 25-year-old were arrested in south London, police confirmed. They are currently being held at a south London police station on suspicion of violent disorder. The investigation was launched after violence broke out in the King's Cross area, the Seasiders having drawn 3-3 at Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Eagles securing a late 2-1 victory at Peterborough United. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Barnes said: "We (the police forces involved in the investigation) share a firm commitment to tackle and eradicate football hooliganism and will seek football banning orders where appropriate. "Our investigation continues, and I would urge anyone who has any information about individuals who use football as a cover to commit violence and disorder to contact police." The arrests come on the day the rival clubs are due to meet each other in the league, at Palace's Selhurst Park. Police enforced crowd control measures when the two played each other in Croydon in January, including holding some fans in the ground after the final whistle to ease the risk of confrontation between rival supporters. The host club said there was no plan to repeat the exercise at today's match, but said some fans would not be able to use some roads to leave the stadium. Going into today's fixtures, Crystal Palace were one point behind leaders Cardiff City in second, while Brighton were in seve nth, one point off the play-off places.
Eight men are in custody having been arrested following a brawl between Brighton and Hove Albion supporters and Crystal Palace fans last month. Violence broke out between rival football fans in London after the Championship clubs were involved in separate fixtures on November 10. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Public Order Investigations Team, working closely with colleagues in Kent, Surrey and Sussex Police, carried out the arrests at about 5am on Saturday. Four of the men - aged 21, 23, 32 and 41 - were arrested in Sussex, while another four - aged 19, 21, 25 and 28 - were arrested in south London, police confirmed. They were on Saturday night being held by police on suspicion of violent disorder, the Met confirmed. The investigation was launched after violence broke out in the King's Cross area, the Seagulls having drawn 3-3 at Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Eagles securing a late 2-1 victory at Peterborough United. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Barnes said: "We (the police forces involved in the investigation) share a firm commitment to tackle and eradicate football hooliganism and will seek football banning orders where appropriate. Our investigation continues, and I would urge anyone who has any information about individuals who use football as a cover to commit violence and disorder to contact police." The arrests came on the day the rival clubs met each other in the league, at Palace's Selhurst Park, with the home side running out 3-0 victors over their visitors, who were reduced to 10 men in the first half. The result - inspired by two goals from Palace's former Brighton favourite Glenn Murray - sent Palace to the top of the league, and the Seagulls on the fringes of the play-off places. Chief Superintendent Adrian Roberts said: "It was a very challenging match to police today. The behaviour of a very small proportion of fans, including a minority of Brighton fans inside the stadium causing criminal damage was disappointing. "However, overall, the match has passed off with no major incident and no reports of anybody hurt and all fans have been safely dispersed away from the stadium. The vast majority of fans were well behaved and we were able to prevent the minority from spoiling the day for the rest."

London football derby clash passes off ‘with no major incident’
Criminal damage was caused inside Selhurst Park by a minority of Brighton fans during yesterday’s match with Crystal Palace, police have said. The Metropolitan Police deployed a sizable number of officers around the ground yesterday, diverting home supporters away from the stand holding away fans following the game. Chief Superintendent Adrian Roberts said yesterday: “It was a very challenging match to police today. “The behaviour of a very small proportion of fans, including a minority of Brighton fans inside the stadium causing criminal damage was disappointing. “However, overall, the match has passed off with no major incident and no reports of anybody hurt and all fans have been safely dispersed away from the stadium. “The vast majority of fans were well behaved and we were able to prevent the minority from spoiling the day for the rest.” The match - which ended in a 3-0 victory for Crystal Palace over their rivals, restoring them to the top of the league took place hours after it emerged that eight men were arrested in connection with alleged football related disorder at Kings Cross on November 10. Four of the men - aged 21, 23, 32 and 41 - were arrested in Sussex, while another four - aged 19, 21, 25 and 28 - were arrested in south London, police said. An investigation was launched after violence broke out after Palace and Brighton were involved in separate fixtures that day.

Gambia: 17 Football Hooligans Arrested in Basse - 03/12/2012
Source : http://www.ghanamma.com
Police in the Upper River Region (URR) have arrested 17 people following violence that erupted during a football game between Sabi FC and Etiole d’Guinea, the Daily Observer has learnt. The tournament sponsored by Youki Drinks was played at the Basse Mini-Stadium and attended by hundreds of fans. According to our source, Etiole d’Guinea led one nil during the interval, but Sabi FC equalized in the 48th minute. In the 50th minute of the second half, the referee, Alhagie Bah, awarded a penalty to the Guinean team, which was converted. Our source said that when the penalty was scored, one of the angry fans of Sabi FC started insulting the referee and he was subsequently arrested by PIU officers, which made other fans to get angry and demand that the boy be set free. “When the boy was set free by the PIU officers, tempers flared up as the fans and footballers were angry with the referee’s penalty decision. The same fans started throwing bottles, stones among other things at their opponents,” our source added. The source further stated that in order to control the situation, the PIU officers decided to intervene as fans were throwing stones and broken bottles at each other. Many people sustained injuries including the referee Alhagie Bah, and the URR deputy police commissioner, Kemeita Sambou, who was also hit by a bottle on his head. “Some of the Sabi FC fans were then arrested with bottles, stones and axes among others, with the help of the security officers and are currently detained at the Basse Police Station, helping police in their investigations,” the source added.

Bradford City hooligans brought to book - 01/12/2012
Source : http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/
Hooligan literature has become big business since the days of Eddie Brimson.
The reformed Watford troublemaker first tapped into the market of “football culture” nearly 20 years ago and now there isn’t a firm up and down the country that haven’t got their own book out.
The Ointment, the notorious gang that associated itself with Bradford City, are the latest to release their story.
‘Getting a Nasty Shock’, written by Kevin McDonnell, chronicles the history of football violence connected with the club over the past four decades.
He has let those involved tell it in their own words, counter-balancing the personal tales with Telegraph & Argus police and court reports from the time. Often those quizzed ended up in the dock and inside.
It is difficult to read a diary of rucks, riots and public disorder without the feeling that these shocking events are being glorified in print.
But equally you cannot pretend that it never went on. It will strike a chord with anyone who went to football regularly in the 1970s and 1980s, even if the scale of the violence being relived can still beggar belief.
While there are sporadic hooligan outbreaks even now – and there are recollections of fights in Exeter town centre three years ago and the brawl with Aberdeen that marred the centenary tournament in 2003 – it is a stark reminder of what following the game used to be like.
For those born since those darkest days, it must be hard to comprehend that these were true stories.
Almost to a man, the characters involved are not proud now of what they did “back in the day”. But reading their words, it is possible to understand the “buzz” of the hooligan drug that once drew them in.
The accounts do become repetitive after a while. But every now and again the scale of the injuries inflicted stops you in your tracks – a reminder that this is no glamorised Green Street.
The book is launched today at The Northern on Halifax Road and is available from Waterstones, Amazon or at www.flashybladebooks.co.uk.
The book costs £10.99 and a pound from each sale goes to the Bradford Burns Unit.

The horrific injuries suffered by Tottenham fan Ashley Mills in brutal anti-semitic attack in Rome - 03/12/2012
Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk
This is the first shocking image of the head injuries suffered by Tottenham Hotspur fan Ashley Mills in a bloody, apparently anti-semitic attack by hooligans in Rome last month. Mr Mills, 25, was released from the San Camillo hospital today after receiving treatment for a head injury and a potentially fatal knife wound to his groin. He was caught up in a brutal raid by hardcore Lazio and Roma fans on The Drunken Ship pub in the heart of the Italian capital on the eve of Tottenham's Europa League match on November 22.
As he left the hospital in a wheelchair today, Mr Mills would not comment on the attack in the Campo de'Fiori square, saying: 'I don't really want to talk about it... My leg is getting a lot better now and that's the main thing.' Dr Piergiorgio Cao said his femoral artery had been gashed and he risked losing his life had he not been operated on immediately. Mr Mills, a builder from Essex, was flying back to London this afternoon. Two Roma supporters involved in the attack have been banned from all football grounds for five years. Francesco Ianiari, 26, and Mauro Pinnelli, 25, were arrested within ours of the raid on The Drunken Ship, which left three Spurs fans seriously injured. Both Ianiari and Pinnelli were charged with aggravated assault after an initial charge of attempted murder was dropped. Around 50 masked men armed with knives, clubs, belts and sticks raided the bar, a popular meeting point for visiting fans, and were said to have chanted anti-semitic slogans against the Spurs fans during the ten minute raid. It is believed Lazio and Roma fans put aside their traditional differences to attack the Britons. Lazio president Claudio Lotito denied his side's fans were racist and said the attack was purely 'football related.'
He visited Mr Mills in hospital and presented him with a Lazio shirt with his name on. The match, at the Stadio Olimpico, finished goalless.

The Netherlands: Linesman clinically dead after beating - 04/12/2012
Source : http://www.sports247.my
A 41-YEAR-OLD football linesman was pronounced clinically dead yesterday after he was severely beaten by teenage players following a match in the Netherlands, police said. “He is clinically dead,” police spokesman Bernhard Jens said.
Police have arrested three 15- and 16-year-olds from visiting Amsterdam club Nieuwe Sloten for allegedly beating the linesman shortly after the final whistle in Sunday’s match against Buitenboys in neighbouring city Almere.
Dutch media said the linesman had been repeatedly insulted during the match.
During the post-match beating he was kicked in the head and taken to hospital later in the evening after feeling unwell, police said.
Police arrested the three youths from Amsterdam at their homes on Sunday night. They have been kicked out of their club and their team has withdrawn from this season’s championship.
Sports Minister Edith Schippers reacted with shock even before the clinical death was announced.
“It’s absolutely horrible that something like this can happen on Dutch sports grounds,” she said.
“This no longer has anything to do with sport and is completely unacceptable,” she told Dutch public television.
The Dutch football federation KNVB condemned the attack, also before the clinical death was announced, with a spokesman saying “what can you do against people who can come off the rails at any moment on a football pitch because they don’t like something or somebody?”
“Statistics show that most incidents that happen in youth football happen with this age group. Obviously it’s a difficult age during which certain players can be reckless,” national news agency ANP quoted the KNVB as saying.

Platini calls on Croatia to tackle hooligans - 04/12/2012
Source : http://tensport.com.au
UEFA president Michel Platini urged Croatia on Tuesday to crack down on hooligans and warned that if the issue is not resolved it could have "fatal consequences" for national football.
"The Croatian authorities have to understand the importance of the problem of violence and hooliganism," Platini said in an interview with the influential Jutarnji List daily.
"However, unfortunately, we are still awaiting for an adequate reaction. My advice is not to wait for too long since the consequences could be fatal for Croatian football," the former France captain was quoted as saying.
Platini was expected in Zagreb later on Tuesday, where he was due to attend ceremonies marking the 100th anniversary of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS). FIFA president Sepp Blatter was also expected here for the celebrations.
Platini said he believed the HNS's new leadership, elected earlier this year and headed by former star player Davor Suker, would "eventually resolve the problem of violence".
"To do that, brave people and brave decision are needed but also strong political support," he emphasised.
Platini has previously warned Croatia, as well as neighbouring Serbia, that if they they do not root out violence among football supporters they risk being excluded from international competitions.
UEFA has fined the HNS on several occasions for violence and racist behaviour of Croatian hardcore football fans who often clash with the police.
At this year's European championships, UEFA fined the HNS 80,000 euros ($100,000, 64,500 pounds) after its supporters racially abused Italy's Mario Balotelli in a group match in Poznan, western Poland.
A racism monitoring body said that up to 500 fans were involved in racist chanting, while an AFP photogapher positioned in front of the majority of Croatia supporters said he heard taunts and saw a steward pick up a banana from the pitch.
A Croatian court on Monday sentenced eight hooligans to prison terms of up to two-and-a-half years for attacking a bus of PAOK fans ahead of the Greek club's Europa League match here two years ago.
Four Greek fans were injured in the violent incident in December 2010 in the Croatian capital ahead of PAOK's match against Dinamo Zagreb.

Anderlecht fans wreak havoc at La Rosaleda

Malaga played visiting Belgian side, Anderlecht to a 2-2 draw in Tuesday’s Champions League match. However, the real action occurred prior to and during the match as over 400 Anderlecht fans caused serious incidents in the shops and restaurants in the vicinity of Malaga’s stadium, La Rosaleda and continued to cause problems whilst in the stadium, prompting police to intervene.
Anderlecht fans have a history of causing incidents, after causing a riot at San Mames in the 2009/2010 and Tuesday’s incidents were no different as the group of 400 fans, who had been drinking, amassed in the streets outside the stadium, hassled shop owners and stalled traffic for 10 minutes before 50 police officers broke up the incident and dispersed the hooligans.
Once the fans were in the stadium, the outburst continued, as throughout the match chants could be heard of “Puta Malaga,” which was then followed by the fans throwing bottles at the pitch from the stands.
This behaviour forced the police to intervene once again and separate the radicals from the other travelling Anderlecht fans.
Following the match, the 400 fans were detained for an hour and a half before they were allowed to leave.
In the end, five Anderlecht fans were arrested and four police officers reported injuries, which occurred in the process of breaking up the group prior to the match.

Big Anderlecht mob for this first spanish game since the troubles against Bilbao. During the afternoon we took place in 3 different pubs of the city centre. Some skirmishes erupted were Spaniards were smashed up but nothing special with the local mob. But our way to the stadium was under tension: the first fans present to the stadium phoned us and said a mob of 50 locals waited for us near the stadium, armed with batons. At 7.30pm, about 200 BCS took the road to the stadium, followed by about 100 belgian ultras. Thirty minutes later, without any escorted, was see the stadium and we also see the Malaga mob on the other side of a bridge. BCS charged and some toe-to-toe erupted. Some of them stood their ground but were smashed up but the main part of their mob ran away. As it was chaos with normal fans police decided to intervened and baton-charged. Due to this police intervention, local mob ha bollocks back and thrown missiles at us so we charged them but only a few of them came without glasses or belts. Guardia Civil charged. During the game, due to the police intervention with batons, other troubles took places. At the end of the game, without police escort, Brussels mob took its way to the city centre but no local mob was seen. During the night, some skirmishes with locals but nothing to mention, except when a mob of 15 local ultras armed with guns arrived at the hotel of twenty of our lads. But after they showed their guns, they left the place.

England: Policeman single-handedly arrests nine football yobs in pub fight - 04/12/2012

PC Andrew Francis became a one-man riot squad when West Bromwich Albion fans and away supporters from Queens Park Rangers started throwing glasses, bottles and bricks at each other in a packed pub.
He grabbed one hooligan and made eight further arrests by the time colleagues from West Midlands police arrived.
PC Francis said: ‘Every police officer wants to protect the innocent and lock up criminals – I was just doing my job.’
Four West Brom fans and two QPR supporters, aged 19 to 43, received sentences ranging from an eight-month suspended jail term to a 12-month community order for the disturbance in the Wagon and Horses in West Bromwich in April.
Sentencing them at Birmingham crown court, Judge Rupert Mayo told them: ‘Your cards are marked.’

Man arrested for running on to pitch at Cheltenham Hereford FA Cup tie
ONE man was arrested at Cheltenham Town's 1-1 FA Cup clash with Hereford United this week.
Police apprehended a 23-year-old Bulls supporter for running onto the pitch during Monday night's game.
He was given a formal caution under the Football Offences Act of 1991.
Police said that this was the only issue during the match, dispelling any fears it would be blighted by racist chants.
Extra officers were deployed to the Abbey Business Stadium after a 17-year-old from Ross-on-Wye used Twitter to urge fans to shout offensive abuse.
He was issued with a £80 fixed penalty notice.
Police hailed the match as a success and thanked fans for their co-operation.
Superintendent Rob Priddy said: "We're pleased to report both sets of fans interacted well with each other, our officers and Whaddon Road staff.
"We'd like to thank both Hereford and Cheltenham supporters for helping us give them a safe and respectful environment to enjoy that match."
