| Partizan and Red Star punished for derby trouble - 09/10/2007
Source: Reuters
Belgrade rivals Partizan and Red Star were punished on Tuesday for trouble involving fans and players during their derby last month.
'The organisation of the derby was sloppy to say the least,' deputy first division commissioner Dragce Dimitrijevic said.
Partizan were ordered to play one match behind closed doors after their fans shouted racist abuse at Red Star's Senegalese defender Ibrahim Gueye and two dozen of them invaded the pitch after the final whistle.
Red Star's Portuguese midfielder Lukas and striker Nenad Jestrovic were given two-match bans while Serbia winger Ognjen Koroman will miss one game for violent conduct.
Both clubs were fined after their fans lit flares and threw them on to the pitch during the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Serbian first division leaders Partizan were thrown out of the UEFA Cup earlier this season after their fans started a riot in a first qualifying-round match at Bosnian rivals Zrinjski Mostar.

| Newcastle, Sunderland and Everton fans brawl at station - 11/10/2007
Source : Sunderland Echo
Rival football yobs clashed in a post-match brawl.
Gangs of supporters from Sunderland, Newcastle and Everton came together at Newcastle Central Station after their Sunday fixtures.
Eyewitnesses told of violent clashes, but officers said the trouble had calmed by the time they arrived.
Trouble flared after the Newcastle's home game with Everton on Sunday.
Supporters from both sides descended on Central Station, making their way home, as Sunderland fans arrived from London, with the Black Cats having lost to Arsenal 3-2.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said they received reports of a "fracas" on the ramp next to platform three.
Two 31-year-old men were arrested at 9.30pm for public order offences and being drunk and disorderly. BTP officers are studying CCTV footage from the station to determine whether any known hooligans were involved in the disturbances.

| Derry City - Bohemians Dublin - 09/10/2007Source : Belfast Telegraph Bohemian fans blamed for Derry bar attackFootball fans travelling from Dublin for the Eircom League Cup final clash with Derry City were today blamed for attacking a bar on the edge of the predominantly Protestant Fountain area. The Tavern in London Street had windows smashed and a number of drinkers were injured in the melee at around 7pm yesterday. The trouble came as Derry City and Bohemians prepared to meet at the Brandywell. Bar owner Kingsley Curry said a 30-strong gang smashed four windows made of reinforced glass, trashed furniture and broke bottles before a small number of regulars were able to barricade the front door to prevent them re-entering. He said the culprits had "southern accents" and may have travelled to the game from the Republic. However, Mr Curry said that the bar, better known as the 'Talk of the Town', would reopen for business as usual today. "It was a crowd of hooligans going to the game at the Brandywell," he said. "They were all from the Republic, the whole lot of them, the staff said." He said when he arrived after being contacted by worried employees, the mob had moved on. "They broke windows and there was a scuffle inside and the staff tried to get them out and they tried to climb back in through the broken windows," he said. He added that there was only a small number of patrons in the bar, comprising middle aged or elderly men and some female tourists from Canada. "One wee girl in for a drink had to go to hospital, when she was hit on the hand with something, she was badly shaken. A barman had a cut on his ear from flying glass," said the owner. Police said that a 17-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. PUB ATTACK. . . . .The Tavern public house in London Street which was attacked last night by football supporters shortly before the eircom League Cup final at Brandywell.************************************************************* Source : The Associated Press (10/10/2007) 4 Irish football fans speedily convicted for attack on Northern Ireland pubFour fans of a Dublin soccer club were convicted of riotous behavior and thrown in jail Wednesday, just hours after they attacked a Northern Ireland pub and wounded a female customer. The four men, all from Dublin, received three-month prison terms in Londonderry Magistrates Court after police identified them as members of a drunken crowd of supporters of the Dublin club Bohemians. The crowd ransacked and barraged a Londonderry pub called the Tavern Bar just minutes before the start of the League of Ireland Cup final between Bohemians and the hometown club, Derry City, which won 1-0 for its third straight cup victory. Tavern Bar patrons were showered with glass, rocks, bottles and other objects thrown by the departing hooligans. One customer, identified only as a woman in her 20s, suffered cut ligaments in a hand. The Police Service of Northern Ireland said officers studied closed-circuit television footage of the pub attack to pinpoint images of the attackers' faces and clothing. These images were presented in court. Four other Bohemians supporters who were arrested, including a 17-year-old Dublin boy, were freed without charge. | |

Source : Manchester Evening News
Couple's racist terror
AN Asian couple have spoken of their terror after they were subjected to a racist attack by a gang of football thugs.
Maqsooda Sattar, 64, was spat at and had alcohol thrown at her by about 20 beer-swilling hooligans on Saturday.
Husband Abdul, 73, confronted them but was punched to the floor, kicked in the head and showered with drink.
The attack happened near close Rochdale's Spotland ground at 1.30pm, before their derby clash with Bury.
Mrs Sattar was walking to her doctor's surgery for a flu jab when the men, believed to be Bury fans aged 16-20, ran over.
She said: "They were swearing and shouting horrible things at me. They called me a P***, threw beer at me and spat at me - I was just shocked."
Medical centre staff came out and the attackers fled.
Police were called and a witness was taken to the ground but could not identify them.
Mr Sattar was taken to hospital with bruising but no serious injuries.
The couple, who have lived in Rochdale for 34 years, said the incident left them `extremely shaken'.
Son-in-law Ibrar Ul-Haq, 42, said he was `disgusted' by the attack.
He said: "It's absolutely sickening. They were quite an outgoing pair but now they are afraid to leave the house. Mrs Sattar is having baths every couple of hours because she still thinks she can feel the alcohol on her.
"And it's not just the race element that is disturbing - it's their ages as well.
"All of the family are stunned. I have a 13-year-old son who, thankfully, has never encountered this kind of thing."

| Two Bohemians fans granted appeal - 12/10/2007
Source : Derry Journal
Two of the four Bohemians football fans from Dublin who were jailed for three months in Derry on Wednesday after they admittted causing criminal damage to a bar and riotous behaviour, were yesterday granted leave to appeal the sentence by the same Resident Magistrate who jailed them. However, before Evan Kane, a twenty years-old student from Upper Dorset Street, and Gavin James Hanly, a twenty-two years-old security company employee from McKee Park, can appeal their sentence, they must first lodge £2,500 in cash with the court service in Derry.
In court in Derry yesterday, defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told Resident Magistrate Barney McElholm that he had received instructions from Kane, who was detained in the Young Offenders Centre in Belfast, and from Hanly, who was detained in Maghaberry Prison, to apply for bail to be fixed for them to appeal the sentence.
"They have asked to be released on bail because the next available court is four weeks away", said Mr. Quigley.
Conditional
Mr. McElholm granted the application on condition that Kane and Hanly each lodge £2,500 cash with the court.
"I am obliged to grant them leave to appeal, but I want their addresses in Dublin to be checked and to be suitable to the police. We have been given addresses but I do not know if the police have checked that the addresses are correct.
"In granting bail for leave to appeal, I want cash sureties from each of them for £2,500 sterling. We need the cash because if they do not turn up for future hearings, the bar owner must be compensated, and if they do not turn up for future court hearings, they will lose their bail.
"Also if they do not turn up, I hope the authorities will take steps to have them arrested in the Republic and brought back in,” he said.
The two other Dublin men who were jailed with Kane and Hanly are Francis O'Reilly, (29), a local authority worker from Clonturk Park, and Brian Shannon, (20), from Ventry Drive, Cabra.

| Police Pact - 12/10/2007
Source : RailwayPeople.com
British Transport Police, North Yorkshire Police and York City Football Club havejoined forces to clamp down on football hooligans who terrorise matches and trains. The three groups have signed a PACT ( Police and Clubs Together) protocol which aims to pool intelligence about troublemakers. Says BTP’s Area Commander, Terry Nicholson, ‘We are really pleased to be working closely with York FC and North Yorkshire Police as part of the PACT Protocol. Although we have been working informally together for some time it’s really positive that we have now put in place a formalised system to gather and collect information which we can then act on.’

| Irish hooligans 'fuelled by cocaine' - 14/10/2007
Source : Guardian Unlimited
Police study reveals violent football fans use drug to increase aggression
Abuse of drugs, principally cocaine, is fuelling an unprecedented upsurge in soccer hooliganism in the Irish Republic, according to a new study. A report to be published this week in the Garda Review, the magazine of the Garda Representative Association, highlights the use of drugs by hooligans who want to get 'fired up' before games.
Inspector Tony Gallagher from Fitzgibbon Street in Dublin, the garda station in charge of security both at Bohemian FC's Dalymount Park and Croke Park, headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association, said of the hooligans: 'We believe they are taking cocaine, which is exaggerating the aggression. They are using drugs to get the psyche right for aggression and violence against rival groups.
'They are totally fixated. They look to see if their intended target is over your shoulder; the coins and bottles start flying - but thankfully no garda has been injured.' Gallagher also tells the Garda Review that his colleagues 'arrested one hooligan who had a huge amount of controlled substances on his person'.
In the current season there have been serious clashes between rival gangs at the Bohemians-Shamrock Rovers game at Dalymount Park. The garda was so concerned about trouble before, during and after the game that it deployed as many officers around the stadium as it did at the All-Ireland Gaelic football final. There were more than 80,000 spectators at the All-Ireland final compared with just 3,500 at the Bohemians-Shamrock Rovers game.
Another measure of the rise in hooliganism is the policing of the main Jodi Stand in Dalymount Park. Four years ago there were only two gardai on duty to police the crowd in that section of the ground; this season there is now regularly a full line of gardai down one aisle to segregate the away supporters from the home fans.
The Garda Review investigation will also reveal that a group of Bohemians hooligans have linked up with around 15 Wrexham supporters that are known to the British police as troublemakers. Last year the Wrexham hooligans attempted to join a planned riot at the north Dublin derby between Bohemians and Shelbourne.
Last night one of Bohemians' directors, Denis Maher, confirmed it was widespread knowledge in Irish football that cocaine was exacerbating the new hooligan problem. 'It's true to say the rise in trouble by a small minority is made worse by drugs. Cocaine and other drugs are prevalent in Dublin so it's hardly a surprise.
'It's worrying that there has been this increase in violence at certain games, especially in the streets outside stadiums. The gardai are right to be concerned.'

| Vardar Skopje - CSKA Sofia (friendly) - 14/10/2007Source : Focus News The friendly football match between Macedonia’s Vardar and Bulgaria’s CSKA will be remembered with the fight between fans of the two teams. About 30 CSKA fans entered a fight with fans of the Macedonian club. In the 20th minute the match turned into a mass fight, the Macedonian Utrinski Vesnik writes. Upon entering the stadium the Bulgarians started insulting the fans of the hosting team. Their provocations continued, breaking some seats and hurling them against the Macedonian supporters. One Bulgarian fan was injured. The Bulgarian media confirmed the information only 30 minutes after the game was over. The direct clash between the two groups was headed off by the police and special units. The football match was organized to mark the 60th anniversary of the Macedonian club, but it turned into a fight with metal rods, broken seats and other objects, the Macedonian Dnevnik newspaper writes. According to the Bulgarian media a CSKA fan suffers a broken head, and several other fans have minor injuries. The Interior Ministry described the incident as a violation of the public order, but it did not have information about wounded or arrested people. The brawl started in the 20th minute after a provocation by 50 CSKA fans, the newspaper notes. The Macedonian football club was to return the visit in Sofia in the spring, but after the incident it is not clear whether the game will take place at all, the Macedonian Vecer daily writes. ************************************************************* Source : CSKA Sofia info One of the Reds’ supporters was injured in the head after a mass fight between the fans of the two teams. The fans of CSKA and Vardar had a fight during the match. The visiting supporters were attacked by 150 Vardar troublemakers well-known for their anti-Bulgarian behavior. The so called “Komiti” even attacked Bulgarian journalists in the stands and tried to prevent the filming of the attack. After 10 minutes the police forces managed to handle the situation and separated the fans of the two teams. The low security measures taken by the hosts were the main reason for the fight as only six stewards were present at the stadium at the beginning of the match. The CSKA supporter who was injured in the head refused to be taken to a hospital in Skopje and decided to receive medical attention at Bulgarian territory. | |

| Russian security force ready for English fans' visit to Moscow - 15/ 10/ 2007 Source : RIA Novosti
The Moscow division of Russia's elite security force, the OMON, have carried out training exercises ahead of the visit by 5,000 English soccer fans to Moscow on October 17.
Russia are due to play England on Wednesday in a Euro 2008 qualifying match - a game that Russia have to win to have a chance of qualifying for the final stages of the tournament, due to be held in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
The OMON was formed in 1979 as a counter-terrorist group ahead of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. OMON members receive intensive weapons and hand-to-hand combat training, and have been compared to S.W.A.T. teams in the U.S.
An OMON spokesman said that officers had received training on how to conduct themselves with "foreign citizens," as well as instructions on how to prevent mass brawls between English and Russian supporters.
While English soccer hooliganism has seen a marked decrease since its 'heyday' in the 1980s, hooliganism in Russia, virtually unheard of in the U.S.S.R, is on the increase. Indeed, many Russian hooligan groups have expressed a desire to test themselves against English fans.
In total, some 5,000 OMON officers and police officers are set to be on duty for Wednesday's match at the 80,000 capacity Luzhniki stadium.

| Reja: Banning Fans Is A Defeat For Football - 15/10/2007
Source : Goal.com
Napoli Coach Edy Reja has blasted the decision to prohibit Partenopei fans from travelling to the match with Roma on Sunday and says the club have already been punished enough. The crowd trouble in Napoli’s 1-0 home victory over Livorno in week five led to the following week’s clash with Genoa at the Stadio San Paolo being played behind closed doors. Napoli lost the game 2-1 and were further punished when their fans were barred from travelling to the week seven clash with Inter at San Siro, a game the Azzurri lost 2-1.
Rome’s chief of police has now ordered to close the visitors’ section at the Stadio Olimpico for this Sunday’s match between Roma and Napoli, due to safety reasons, and Reja is not at all happy.
“This is a defeat for the whole of Italian football, not just for Napoli” blasted Reja.
“The fans are the life-blood of football. We have already been punished enough and I believe now is the time for these penalties to come to an end and for us to find a solution with the supporters, without taking such drastic measures.”

The Unibond Premier Division side’s growing frustration was shown in the dying minutes when they themselves had two men – Martin Moran and Nathan Pond – sent off.
The latter was so incensed by something that he charged across the pitch after the final whistle to confront Barrow fans at the Holker Street end.
The stewards and home directors intervened quickly, while the police were needed outside the Crossbar end of the ground to quell brief skirmishes between the home and away fans as chaos seemed to reign for several minutes.

| Six Rovers fans given banning orders - 16/10/2007
Source : This Is Lancashire
SIX Blackburn Rovers fans have been given football banning orders after fighting with each other at a European game in Germany.
Another four Rovers supporters also face banning applications after Lancashire police officers were able to recognise the 10 from surveillance footage provided by their German counterparts.
Christopher Aspinall, 23, of Commercial Street, Stephen Earnshaw, 21, of Petre Crescent, and Douglas Raith, 42, of Talbot Street, all Rishton, were given two-year banning orders.
Oliver Hickmott, 21, of New Wellington Close, Blackburn, Anthony McAllion, 49, of Worsthorn Avenue, Blackburn, and Adam Metcalf, 23, of Napier Street, Nelson, were each given three-year banning orders after the court was told they had previously had a two-year football ban imposed on them.
Applications for banning orders against Adrian Charnley, of St Marks Road, Scott Counsell, of Wilson Street, both Blackburn, Lee Hughes, of Westwell Road, Chorley, and Jamie Regan, of Fernhurst Street, Blackburn, were adjourned until November 28.
Sue McLean, prosecuting on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary, said the six defendants accepted the making of the orders.
She said they had all been involved in a disturbance on the Blackburn Rovers side of the pitch during the club's three-two defeat in the UEFA Cup first knockout round, first leg against Bayer Leverkusen on Valentine's Day last year.
Some of those involved were taken away by the German police.
Miss McLean said 12 people were involved in the fighting and Lancashire police "spotters" had been able to identify 10 of them from the footage provided by their German counterparts.
She said: "I hazard to suggest the German police just wanted these hooligans out of their country as soon as possible.
"It seems a common theme is drink".
Imposing the orders District Judge Peter Ward said there should be zero tolerance of football related incidents.
He said: "The public should not have to put up with people behaving in this way.
"The majority of people who go to football matches go to enjoy the match and it is not fair that they should be put at risk because of the mindless, drink fuelled behaviour of a small minority.
"There is also the enormous cost of policing these events which would be greatly reduced if everybody behaved themselves.
"What you found to fall out about amongst yourselves I have no idea."

| Bohs fans to present Tavern owner with cheque - 15/10/2007Source : Derry Journal Bohemians fans are to hand over a cheque to the owner of a Derry pub smashed up by a rogue element of their support before last week's League Cup final. A delegation of supporters will present a cheque of around euro 1000 to Kingsley Curry, the owner of the Tavern Bar, before their game against Derry City at the Brandywell on Friday night. Bohemian fans Evan Kane (20), Francis O'Reilly (29), Gavin James Hanly (22) and Brian Shannon (20) were all jailed for three months following the attack on the London Street bar. Kane and Hanly have since been released on bail pending their appeals. Mr. Currie's wife, Grace Currie, says it has not been decided where the cheque presentation will take place. "We are delighted that this has happened as it was not expected, she said. "We are planning a meeting with Bohemians fans, however, it is too early to say where this meeting will occur." Bohemians supporters' spokesman Denis Maher, who plans to meet with Mr. Curry ahead of Friday night's game, said no amount of money would compensate for the attack. "We are not making a payment in reparation to Kingsley Currie, we are making a statement", he said. "Nothing will compensate the man for what happened to him but, by doing this, what we are saying is that we are decent fans making a payment in solidarity." The supporters' spokesman said the Tavern Bar owner's decision to decline compensation in favour of jail sentences for the offenders was welcomed by Bohemians fans. "We admire and applaud the stance that Mr. Currie took against these hooligans, he said. "Bohemians is not a sectarian club. We have fans of a number of faiths. We only ascribe to football. We do not want Kingsley Currie, his customers or anyone in Derry to think that these four thugs are representative of our club. They have no right to call themselves supporters." Meanwhile, it has emerged that Francis O'Reilly has been expelled from Sinn Fein following his conviction for his part in last week's disturbances. A Sinn Féin spokesman said: "He was a member of a local branch of Sinn Féin in Dublin. Once it was realised that he was a member, he was summarily dismissed." | |

| MACEDONIAN VARDAR PRESIDENT ASKS EXCUSE FOR BEATEN FAN OF BULGARIA’S CSKA - 16/10/2007
Source : Sofia Echo The president of Macedonian football team Vardar Atanas Kostovski apologised to the CSKA management for the behaviour of Vardar’s fans during the match between the two teams on October 14 2007.
CSKA won 2:1, but during the first half-time a mass fight between Vardar and CSKA fans started. One CSKA fan suffered a head injury, Focus news agency reported.
Macedonian police arrived some 10 minutes after the fight began and separated the fans, but no one was arrested.
Kostovski sent CSKA a fax, expressing his gratitude for CSKA’s visit for the friendly match, which was a good opportunity for the coaches of the two teams to test the form of their players, Focus said. The fax also reads that Kostovski is very sorry for the accidents at the stands of the stadium.
Hopefully, the accident would not damage the good relations between the teams, he said.
