Matches ban for hooligan - 20/08/2004
A soccer fan branded a troublemaker has been handed a three-year match ban after being arrested on his way to a game in the Midlands.
Jamie Conyers, 18, from Halifax, was arrested as he got off a coach in Tamworth on Saturday August 14.
He was released on police bail after his local club suffered a 2-1 defeat in a Nationwide Conference clash with Tamworth FC.
The banning order was issued when Conyers, of High Road, Halifax, appeared before magistrates in Leeds on August 17. He is not allowed within a mile of the Halifax FC ground and within five miles of any of the club's home or away games.
He is also banned from attending any international games in England or Wales and must surrender his passport when the England team plays abroad.Police said they had written to known troublemakers before Saturday's match warning them to stay away from Tamworth or face arrest to prevent any breach of the peace.
They said Conyers received a warning but still attempted to attend the game and the banning order was issued because of this and "other evidence of his involvement in football related disorder".
