Belgium: The Polish hooligans who kidnapped and tortured the duo remain in prison - 11/12/2023

Four Polish mercenaries allegedly responsible for the kidnapping and torture of two Antwerp residents will remain in prison. The two victims (aged 52 and 40) were held in a holiday home in Brasschaat for several days at the end of June. It is not yet known why, as the Poles are invoking their right to remain silent. What is known is that they were the executors; the presumed instigators are believed to be the managers of the Fish Hook restaurant in Deurne.
The four Poles' visit to the chambers on Monday morning was quickly settled. The lawyers acknowledged that asking for the release of these tough guys was not on the agenda. The chambers extended the arrest of the four Poles after a few minutes.

Polish police found three suspects in the capital Warsaw in mid-October. A fourth suspect was found in the town of Radom. According to the Polish police, the quartet belonged to a group of hooligans from a sports club in Radom.

The Antwerp public prosecutor's office believes that these four people are the perpetrators of a kidnapping organised by three suspects from Deurne. Two suspects, Elias E.J. (37) and Yassir E.J. (25), are the owners of the Fish Hook fish restaurant on the Herentalsebaan in Deurne. They were arrested at the end of June. It is not yet clear why two men (aged 52 and 40) with the same surname were taken hostage and tortured.

Another 10 Croatian hooligans released from custody on Friday - 09/12/2023

Another ten hooligans of GNK Dιnamo Zagreb, who had been remanded in custody for the bloody incidents in Nea Philadelphia in August, will be released on Friday.

Earlier the same day, Greek authorities had announced the release of another 20 Croatians involved in the same fatal clashes with Greek soccer supporters outside the OPAP Arena football field in Nea Philadelphia, Attica.

The clashes had resulted in the serious injury and death of an AEK fan.

As in the case of the 20 suspects released earlier, prosecuting authorities have ordered that the specific individuals be banned from entering Greece to attend any sports events and have set bail of 1,000 euros for each suspect.

A total of 95 Croatians (out of 105 that are being held in custody on remand) have requested their release from prison. The petitions of the remaining 65 Croatians still in custody are to be examined over the coming hours.

The Aargau public prosecutor's office has sentenced the first Aarau hooligans for the attack on an FC Baden fan bar last May. Nobody has to go to prison - but fines and charges totalling just under CHF 2,000 to just under CHF 4,000 have been imposed.

SEVILLA FC: 25 Sevilla ultras dawn raided and arrested - 12/12/2023

This Monday, the National Police carried out an operation which resulted in the arrest of 25 Sevilla F.C. ultras. The police action is related to several altercations, including those that took place on 23 September in Pamplona between radical Sevilla and Club Atlético Osasuna fans, as well as the 23 November incident between radical fans in a bar in Esperanza de Triana street.

Police sources reported that the operation is still ongoing, with the possibility of further arrests. Following the clashes in Pamplona, where two radical Sevilla fans were arrested with dangerous material, the police have intensified their actions.

Incidents took place following the celebration of the visiting team's goal, in the 90+17th minute of play, considered a provocation by CSKA fans. One of them rushed onto the pitch with a shovel, trying to attack the player Spas Delev. However, the CSKA goalkeeper and a steward intervened to stop the fan.

Other local fans tried to attack those from Razgrad. The visiting players left the field under police protection, in front of a wild crowd.

Sevilla fans banned from travelling for Lens Champions League match

Sevilla fans have been banned from travelling to Lens for their final Champions League group stage match against the French side on Tuesday night.

The French interior minister Gerald Darmanin announced the measures in an interview on Sunday night and they have now been confirmed by a local government order.

The Pas-de-Calais department said it had taken the decision as the presence of Sevilla fans “posed a serious risk to security”. It cited “attempts at contact” between Lens and Sevilla fans trying to “organise a fight” before their first match in September, clashes between Sevilla and Arsenal fans after their game in September and between Sevilla and Roma fans before last season’s Europa League final.

The order also cited “the links of friendship between Sevilla supporters and those of (Belgian side) Standard de Liège” who it said could travel to the match given their “geographical proximity”.

Disturbances outside the U-Power Stadium in Monza before the match against Genoa: the police, in riot gear, had to intervene to prevent the fans from coming into contact. Sticks and pipes were confiscated.

Tension today, Sunday 10 December, outside the U powerdi Monza stadium, before the Serie A championship match between Monza and Genoa (the home team triumphed 1-0).

When the vans carrying visiting supporters arrived, some of them allegedly tried to make contact with the home supporters, setting off some firecrackers at the roundabout in Viale Sicilia. In the boot of an Audi parked in viale Stucchi, moreover, sticks and iron pipes were found, which were immediately seized by the police.

It was at that very spot that clashes took place between the Genoa fans and the police. In the meantime, the Monza ultras broke away from their bar-meeting point, right in Viale Sicilia, to try to come into contact with their adversaries, but they found themselves in front of a police line-up: the agents, in riot gear, had to intervene to prevent the opposing fans from coming into contact with each other.

Scuffles and tense moments were recorded at Helvia Recina before the kick-off and at the end of the game between Maceratese and Osimana, a match valid for the Eccellenza championship. The fans certainly came into contact several times even during the match.

There was a lot of work for the police to restore calm and among the injured was a policeman. Then, at about a quarter of an hour from the end of the match, some Osimana fans climbed onto the last step of the bleachers to observe what was happening on the forecourt. The visiting supporters, about a hundred or so attended the match, according to the reconstruction made, were allegedly subjected to the throwing of bottles and stones, and some charges were also made to restore calm. During the match, very loud firecrackers broke out. Eventually, the police managed to get the Osimo fans out and they were able to return home.

Citizen Protection Minister Yannis Oikonomou and Deputy Minister of Sports Giannis Vroutsis submitted a comprehensive catalog containing approximately 200 names of hooligans active across all sports teams on a national scale to Prosecutor Georgia Adelini of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

The catalog encapsulated incidents of both fan and non-fan violence over the past year. Additionally, the dossier included information regarding the activities of numerous individuals spanning a significant timeframe, some of whom are connected to cases dating back to the 2007 Filopoulos murder.

The selection of individuals in the hooligan list is based on police data, designating them as high-risk individuals regarding fan violence. Minister Vroutsis noted that the information also encompasses criminal activities such as extortion and narcotics.

The file, handed over to judicial authorities, incorporated complaints about assaults on referees and journalists, periodically reported by the Panhellenic Association of Sports Press.

Minister Oikonomou emphasized that the presented data is indicative, as more information from competent authorities is expected to follow.

Away fans banned from Anderlecht-Standard games until end of 24-25 season - 12/12/2023

Matches between Anderlecht and Standard Liège will be played without visiting fans at least until the end of the 2024-2025 season, the two clubs announced in a joint statement on Monday. The decision follows repeated violent incidents between fans that have led to matches being abandoned.

Over the last six years, the fixture, known as the Clasico, has been interrupted on four occasions. In two cases, during the 2019 play-offs at Anderlecht and during the regular season in October 2022 at Standard, the match was not restarted.

The latest incident happened in Thursday’s Belgian Cup clash at Anderlecht, which the home side won 2-0. As a result of the crowd trouble, Standard fans were not allowed to attend the league match that took place three days later.

“What should have been one of the great moments in Belgian football has often proved to be a disillusionment for fans in recent years,” the clubs said in their statement.

“Despite elaborate security measures, the Clasico has ended in violent clashes and significant material damage. The Clasico, which for the majority of fans is based on a healthy rivalry, has degenerated four times in the last six years because of a small group of supporters on both sides. That’s why the two clubs have agreed to a period of reflection.”

At least until the end of the 2024-2025 season, no away fans will be allowed to attend matches between the two clubs, who “deeply regret this decision and are aware that it will also affect some of the most well-intentioned and loyal supporters, but they want to send a strong signal that violence has no place in and around a football stadium.”

Last Thursday, in the last 16 of the Belgian Cup, fans hurled missiles at each other around the 85th minute, forcing the referee to stop the match. Standard fans broke several seats and threw them towards the home supporters. One or more pyrotechnic devices were also thrown. The match was suspended for several minutes before being restarted.

Standard have already been fined 25,000 euros by the Pro League for these incidents. The Belgian Union could also impose sanctions on the clubs, who both face the threat of playing matches behind closed doors.

Police in Belgrade hunt for 30 masked Red Star hooligans who beat up Man City fans with wooden sticks in attack on a bar and fled before cops arrived

Police have begun a search for masked Red Star Belgrade supporters who reportedly attacked Manchester City fans in the Serbian capital.

Around 20 Man City supporters were allegedly ambushed and beaten up with wooden sticks in a bar on Tuesday night.

Serbian newspaper Telegraf reported that the attack took place at around 11pm.

Around 30 masked people were involved, with the suspected attackers believed to be supporters of Red Star Belgrade.

City supporters were struck on the head and body by their attackers, who fled towards the city centre before police arrived on the scene.

Serbian police are now working to identify the suspects involved in the attack.

Lazio have been handed a hefty fine for the behaviour of their fans, including anti-Irish discrimination, when they hosted Celtic last month.

The Hoops went down 2-0 to two late goals from Ciro Immobile following on from the Serie A team's victory at Parkhead in the return fixture. Maurizio Sarri's side have secured their progression to the Champions League knockout stages while the Hoops crash out, but have been hit in the pocket due to what happened off the pitch that night.

Home supporters hung banners during the Rome clash including one which read "The famine is over. Go home fucking potato eaters." For that, their club has been fined €25,000 as well as being given a one-game Champions League stadium closure although the latter is suspended for two years.

Legia Warsaw fans banned for five away matches after trouble at Aston Villa in UEFA Europa Conference League - 13/12/2023

Supporters of Polish club Legia Warsaw have been banned from the club’s next five away European games following violent clashes in the build-up to their UEFA Europa Conference League match at Aston Villa in November. In total, 46 men were charged after fans clashed with police. The club has also been ordered to pay a fine and contact Aston Villa to help pay for damages caused at the stadium.

UEFA has banned Legia Warsaw from having any away supporters at their next five European matches due to trouble at their UEFA Europa Conference League fixture against Aston Villa.

A number of police officers were injured in clashes before the game at Villa Park on Thursday, November 30.
In total, 46 men were charged with a public order offence, two with assaulting police officers and another with possession of a knife.

Following the disturbing scenes, Aston Villa made a complaint to UEFA.

The club said: “This shocking behaviour followed Legia club officials’ complete lack of cooperation with West Midlands Police, Aston Villa and UEFA throughout the day.”

As well as the five-match ban for away supporters, Legia have been fined £86,100 (99,820 €) for “crowd disturbances, acts of damage, throwing of objects and lighting of fireworks”.

The club has also been ordered to make contact with Aston Villa and agree a settlement regarding damages to infrastructure caused by supporters.

This includes broken high fences and a lighting pole.

FC Köln have been fined €595,000 for their fans’ use of pyrotechnics during their derby match against Borussia Monchengladbach earlier this season, the club have announced.

The fans’ pyro display began just before kick-off and delayed the match by six minutes due to smoke coverage on the pitch. Of the €595,000 Köln have to pay, €195,000 has to go towards their own security or violence prevention measures.

UEFA fined RC Lens 30,000 euros on Wednesday for a series of incidents and damage during his big defeat (6-0) in the Champions League at Arsenal on November 29.

The French vice-champion also receives a suspended ban on selling tickets to his supporters for the next European away meeting, with a probationary period of two years.

The European disciplinary body accuses RC Lens of damage, throwing projectiles and the use of smoke bombs. The northern club will have to contact Arsenal “within 30 days» to settle the damage caused by its supporters, either “50 broken seats» at the Emirates Stadium in London, explains UEFA in a press release.
