Source : https://www.ekathimerini.com/
Two Scottish supporters of Hearts soccer club were sentenced on Monday to an eight-month jail term. The two Hearts supporters were arrested by Greek police after trying to enter the Toumba stadium in Thessaloniki with flares, where Hearts played against PAOK to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
The three-member Thessaloniki Court of Misdemeanors found the two young men guilty of a breach of the sports law and decided on a three-year probation and a two-year ban from attending any sports game in Greek territory.
The two young men, aged 20 and 22, were tried in absentia. Their trial was scheduled for last Friday but was postponed due to the absence of a translator.

Sevilla ultras blast Sergio Ramos: A lack of respect for the values that made us great - 05/09/2023
Source : Marca
The former Real Madrid captain has returned to the Andalusian club
The return of Sergio Ramos to Sevilla, 18 years after his departure to Real Madrid, has stirred up a considerable amount of controversy within the Biris Norte, the ultras of the Seville-based team.
This group has taken to social media to voice their strong disapproval of the 37-year-old defender's signing on a one-season deal.
The Sevilla ultras' statement about Sergio Ramos "As an ultras group of Sevilla for almost 50 years, we want to express our unease to those who proposed this signing," the statement reads.
"We are not motivated by hatred or resentment, but by love and pride for our club, its history and its fans.
"We believe that the mere proposal of this signing was already a lack of respect for the values that have made us great, for the symbols and legends that have defended our badge, and for the thousands of Sevillistas who have suffered the scorn of this player in the past.
"We think that this signing benefits more so the interests of some directors who neither understand nor comprehend what makes Sevilla great and who only look after their personal and/or economic interests.
"We are not their choir and we will always be on the side of Sevilla, but not of those who tarnish it with their decisions.
"We believe that Sevilla fans should have memory and pride, analyse the situation and each one of us should draw our own conclusions.
"We, as a group, are very clear about this and, although we know that every day there are fewer and fewer of us who put our values before the economic aspect, it is something that for Biris Norte is non-negotiable.

Hundreds of Dutch football chants avoid charges for antisemitic chants - 06/09/2023
Source : https://www.jpost.com/
The event occurred on Saturday, May 6, during the evening of the Eredivisie match between Ajax Football Club and AZ.
After months of debate on the matter, 154 AZ Alkmaar football fans will not face prosecution despite being arrested for antisemitic chants on a metro, as reported by Dutch news site NU.
The event occurred on Saturday, May 6, during the evening of the Eredivisie match between Ajax Football Club and AZ.
According to the reports, the metro, traveling from Amsterdam Central Station to the Johan Cruijff ArenA, had to be stopped due to the escalating situation. The fans, fervent supporters of the AZ club, were defiant in the face of multiple police warnings to halt their chants, leading to their eventual arrest.
NU further explained the complexities of the judicial decision, "The challenge in pressing charges stems from the focus of criminal law on individuals. For prosecution to take place, it is essential to determine an individual's role in the offense. Following extensive investigations, the police couldn't procure any decisive evidence." This absence of conclusive proof led the Public Prosecution Service to announce that no specific individual could be linked to the group insult. Dutch Jews hit out at court decision
This decision has been met with significant backlash.
Naomi Mestrum, director of the Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI), shared her concerns with NU. She remarked, "It's disheartening to see the police's commendable efforts being thwarted by the judiciary. This outcome suggests that people can evade consequences when actions are committed as a group."
Mestrum stressed the significance of addressing the recurring issue of antisemitic chants and underscored their emotional toll on the Jewish community. The CIDI director also expressed hope for greater focus from law enforcement agencies in identifying instigators in such group offenses.
Eddo Verdoner, the National Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism, continued this sentiment on a social platform, emphasizing that individuals should not feel shielded by group anonymity. "Individuals shouldn't feel that they can hide within a group,” he tweeted, adding that “it's unfortunate that no prosecution will follow.”
“Addressing antisemitic chants via the legal system remains of utmost importance,” Verdoner concluded.

Edinburgh Hearts fans retrieve flag tribute to young fan who died after it was stolen by Greek football ultras - 08/09/2023
Source : https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/
A trip to Europe turned into a nightmare for a group of Hearts fans after a flag made in remembrance of a young supporter who died was stolen by a notorious group of Greek football ultras.
The Jambos travelled to Thessaloniki in northern Greece last week for the second leg of the Edinburgh club’s UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying stage tie with PAOK. They had taken with them a banner paying tribute to Fraser Wanless, a former Portobello High School pupil who died on July 24, 2021.
Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, Jambos supporter Robbie Mackay, 23, said: “Basically, it was after the game, and Fraser’s dad Phillip and brother Harry were walking through a dark alley on their way back to their rented apartment. And there were a lot of PAOK fans around the area, and he knew something was up. Then one of the PAOK fans ran up to him, grabbed the flag off him, and ran away.
PAOK’s ultras also issued an apology on Twitter, writing: “On Thursday after the game, two banners of the Hearts fans were taken. One of these two banners concerns a 20-year-old Hearts fan.
“We learned the story and the reason this banner was made so we decided it was right to return it to the boy’s father. We have always respected the dead as we lost friends and companions as well.”

Procedural glitch clears French suspects in plot to attack Morocco World Cup fans - 10/09/2023
Source : https://www.france24.com/
A court in Paris has dismissed a high-profile case against seven suspected far-right activists, including a prominent figure in the French “ultra-right”, citing procedural errors in the investigation. The suspects were accused of planning to carry out a racist attack on fans of Morocco during the recent football World Cup, in the latest evidence of rising far-right militancy in France.
Shortly after 10pm on December 14, moments after France defeated Morocco en route to the World Cup final in Qatar, a flood of football fans hit the streets of Paris, converging on the Champs-Elysées, the French capital’s traditional rallying point for jubilant supporters.
Most were draped in the French tricolour, though a sizeable contingent – including many French citizens of Moroccan descent – waved the red-and-green flag of the Lions of the Atlas. Both were in celebratory mode, with Morocco’s fans determined to pay tribute to an extraordinary World Cup run.
One group’s attire, however, pointed to other plans.
Outside a bar in the capital’s swanky 17th arrondissement, about a mile away from the Champs-Elysées, police officers acting on intelligence detained several dozen individuals suspected of planning to carry out a racist rampage.
Body searches revealed an arsenal of weapons that included batons, tear gas canisters, shin guards and tactical gloves. One was held in possession of stickers with the three letters GUD, standing for “Groupe Union Défense”, a far-right student group notorious for its violence, which became dormant at the start of the century but has recently made a comeback.
Ten months later, seven of them were brought before the Paris Criminal Court on Friday on charges of “carrying prohibited weapons” and “forming a group with a view to committing violence and damage”, offences punishable with up to 10 years in jail.
In a startling twist, however, the entire case was thrown out on procedural grounds just hours into the trial, with the presiding judge arguing that police had exceeded their mandate in carrying out the arrests – and ordering the seven suspects to walk free. Ultra-right pedigree
Among the 38 people detained on December 14, about half were known to have belonged to a variety of far-right groups, most of them now outlawed. A dozen were labelled “fiché S”, indicating a potential threat to national security. The majority were from the Paris region, though a handful had travelled from as far as Brittany.
The seven men in the dock on Friday included Marc de Cacqueray-Valménier, a central figure in the French ultra-droite (ultra-right) – a term used to refer to extreme-right groups with neo-Nazi sympathies. He is believed to have led the militant group Zouaves Paris – a GUD offshoot that was banned last year.
At just 24 years of age, the scion of a family of ultra-Catholic aristocrats has already had multiple run-ins with the law, including a suspended jail sentence for his involvement in violent clashes on the sidelines of a Yellow Vest protest at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in December 2018.
In January 2022, Cacqueray-Valménier was sentenced to a year in prison for attacking the Saint-Sauveur bar in Paris, a popular anti-fascist hideout, though he has appealed the conviction. He is also under investigation for a violent attack on anti-racism activists who disrupted a campaign rally in support of far-right presidential candidate Eric Zemmour.
