Fans complain of “chaos” at Tannadice
Football fans were subjected to “utter chaos” during last night’s Scotland under-21 match against Hungary when gates were opened late.
Long queues formed at Tannadice Park as people waited to get into the ground - with some shut out until after the second half had started.
Among the unhappy audience were 120 children and their families from the Douglas Lads Club.
Club secretary Debbie Hurrell said what was supposed to be a fun night for the club had been ruined.
“Our football club went to what we thought was going to be an enjoyable night of football, how wrong were we?” Debbie said.
“We had purchased 120 tickets with ‘seat reservations’ for all the kids in our club some as young as five and they should never have been subjected to a night of utter chaos.
“Groups or clubs were being offered excellent discounts to attend the U21s Scotland game, our club jumped at the chance to take our young footballers to watch and learn from these budding new Scotland stars.
“That would have been the case but most did not get in the ground until the 50th minute of play. After many of our young kids were crushed, moved from turnstile to turnstile they did eventually get into the ground only to find no seats available, even the seats our club reserved.
“One steward said ‘just sit where you can see a seat’ but you were lucky to find two seats together, never mind 20 or 30.
“Who will take responsibility for this absolute shambles? Many of the stewards were very unprofessional and downright rude.”
The game started at 7.30pm but witnesses at the match said some gates were only opened at 8pm.
Many fans vented their frustration saying they had to wait up to 45 minutes in massive queues to get into the match through two available turnstiles.
One Tele reader posted on Facebook: “Absolute disgrace at Tannadice tonight, thousands of people missed half the match due to understaffed badly managed hosting of an international under 21 game, after waiting over half an hour to gain entry at the cash gate, (my son having a ticket) I was told they changed the cash gate to ticket and wouldn’t allow me entry through that gate, this was after my son had gone in!! Quite happy to leave me outside with my son unsupervised inside!!
“There was no supervisor to be seen, no police to be seen, hundreds of people squeezing towards the 2 gates that were open, and me trying to pay in at the cash gate that didn’t take cash!!!
“I’ve never in all my years in visiting Tannadice came across such a debacle and total shambles of a venue, it could have been so much worse with all the youngsters and adults alike jostling for position and trying to squeeze in to the already packed gates.
“Shame on the Sfa and the tannadice organisation for letting down the hundreds maybe thousands that missed half the match and had to get through the first stress laiden hour to even get inside! Heads should roll for this unbelievable sham in this day and age, raging is an understatement.”
The SFA issued a statement following the match last night.
“The Scottish FA and Dundee United FC would like to apologise to any supporters who experienced problems entering the stadium at tonight’s under-21 match between Scotland and Hungary,” a spokesman said.
“This was due to a larger than anticipated crowd arriving close to kick-off time, causing some congestion at the turnstiles.
“We took appropriate steps to ease the congestion and ensure safe seating within the stadium.”

46 arrested after Sofia football brawl
Forty-six football fans were arrested and two people, including a policeman, were injured around the Sofia derby between arch-rivals Levski and CSKA on Saturday, the interior ministry said.
Thirty-eight of the fans were detained on their way to attend the game in Sofia after reportedly breaking a van and injuring its driver on a cross-country highway.
The rest of the fans were held in and around the stadium for carrying banned objects and not possessing any identity documents, the ministry said in a statement.
One policeman was also lightly injured during the game when rowdy CSKA supporters started breaking benches and throwing them at the police cordon guarding the field.
Levski and CSKA are Bulgaria's most popular teams and traditional arch-rivals, and scores of police are usually deployed during their games to prevent clashes.
CSKA won Saturday's game 1-0 after the referee handed out a total of six red cards, including two to substitutes who didn't even enter the field of play, with both teams finishing the game with just nine players each.

This game was marred by violences and vandalism. Police made many arrests. Before the game away fans without tickets tried to force the entrance to the stadium so police reacted with pepper sprays.

Wolves boss plays down ugly scenes after final whistle at Walsall
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett moved quickly to ease any tension between his club and Walsall after ugly scenes following the final whistle in the Black Country derby.
Saddlers keeper Richard O’Donnell confronted Wolves substitute stopper, and former Walsall loanee, Aaron McCarey in the aftermath of Wanderers’ 3-0 triumph.
O’Donnell appeared unhappy at the over-enthusiastic nature of the celebrations of McCarey and Wolves number one Carl Ikeme.
But Wanderers boss Jackett insisted the incident was nothing to be concerned about and that it would not spoil the relationship between the clubs on a mostly trouble-free afternoon, although there was a short delay when a smoke bomb was thrown on to the pitch from the Wolves end.
ackett said: “Aaron said that the Walsall goalkeeper wasn’t too happy with him celebrating. All Aaron felt was that he wanted to go over and congratulate Carl.
“I’d told all the players to give the supporters good recognition because they had backed us very well.
“Aaron has lots of respect for Walsall – he was here last season (on loan) and did very well for them as well.
“I wasn’t outside and around at that particular time but they were his comments. I think it will probably be something and nothing. Certainly from our point of view, there won’t be any problems.
“We have a lot of respect for Walsall Football Club and their manager Dean Smith, who I think is an excellent manager, and a group of players who give it everything every time they play.
“I don’t think it will sour relations. If tensions have boiled over slightly, there’s no problems from our side and as I said we’re full of respect for the club and everybody in it.”

Northampton Town waits on match report after fans are involved in incident with stewards
During the game, Chronicle & Echo football correspondent Jefferson Lake reported that at least two fans were removed from the stadium following an incident involving Scunthorpe stewards.
Northampton fans later took to social media after the game and made a number of criticisms about stewarding at the ground.
Northampton Town spokesman Gareth Willsher said: “At this stage it is hard for us to comment as we are not in possession of the full facts.
“From our position in the ground, which was close to the other goal, we could clearly see an incident had taken place but could not tell why or how it had started.
“We will await the report from Scunthorpe United and the police before commenting and will work with the authorities on this matter.
“Such incidents are very rare and it is unusual for Cobblers supporters to be involved so we are keen to understand what happened. Our fans have a proud reputation and we need to understand fully how this incident occurred.”

11 arrested during East Lancashire derby clash
POLICE arrested 11 people for ‘relatively minor offences’ at yesterday’s East Lancashire derby.
Burnley’s 4,500 travelling fans were taken to Ewood Park on buses from Turf Moor before the game in order to minimise the potential for trouble.
Lancashire Police praised both clubs after the match, saying it passed off without any major incident.
Silver Commander Superintendent Jon Puttock said: “I would like to thank the supporters for their behaviour and co-operation, especially around travel arrangements.
“We have always stressed that the vast majority of supporters of both teams are law-abiding citizens who are passionate about supporting their football team and who just wanted to attend the match to show that support and enjoy the day.
“The policing operation was put in place to make sure that people could enjoy the occasion and get to and from the ground safely.
“The small number of arrests shows that between ourselves and the two football clubs we have ensured that fans have been able to enjoy the game safely and I would like to thank both clubs for their support and close co-operation throughout the planning for this match.”
There was minor disruption to roads around Ewood Park due to the transport arrangements, while the game had to stop briefly early on after a chicken was released on to the pitch.

It was very hot at Huseyin Avni Aker Stadyumu yesterday as rioting hooligans interrupted the Trabzonspor - Fenerbahce fixture.
Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Emenike was on song as he scored a goal that gave Fenerbahce the lead in 23rd minute.
The referee Bulent Yildirim stopped the game shortly after half-time whistle due to rioting hooligans. The situation went out of hand and the most endangered player was Volkan Demirel, who was thrown flares at during preparations to deal with a dangerous free kick from the side of the field.
The scenes that led to the suspension of the match could not be established but further decisions on the matter will be made by the FA in the following days.

Scotland : Dundee man Lee Stewart jailed for football related disorder - 12/03/2014
Source : http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk
A Dundee football hooligan has been jailed for nine months and had a six year Football Banning Order imposed for offences on the day of the Dundee United versus Partick Thistle match at Tannadice in late 2013.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that following the game on Saturday November 23 police officers were on duty in Nish Street where the Partick Thistle supporter’s buses were parked.
Lee Stewart, who was known to police as already being the subject of a Football Banning Order, was seen shouting and challenging a group of Partick Thistle supporters to fight. He ran from police and when arrested swore at them and made threats of violence.
Speaking following sentencing Vicki Bell, Football Liaison Prosecutor for the North of Scotland, said: “So called fans looking to participate in public brawls is totally unacceptable and deters genuine fans from attending as well as tarnishing the images of clubs and our national game.
“We will do all in our power to bring those who perpetrate such crimes to justice.”
