SS Lazio - Udinese - 27/08/2013
Source : http://www.insideworldfootball.com
Lazio, currently feeling the heat due to a racist element amongst their supporters and without a short sponsor, wore a strong anti-racism message for Sunday's Serie A match against Udinese.
As they beat Udinese 2-1, the team's shorts were emblazoned with 'We love football, we fight racism' in English above black and white handprints. The team also used young mascots from Rome's black community to reinforce the anti-racism message.
The game was played without any supporters in the famous Curva Nord section, after the club's appeal against its closure, on the grounds of fans directing racist abuse against Juventus players during the Super Cup, was rejected two days earlier by the Italian Football Federation.
When the club played Udinese last year they were wearing shirts emblazoned with 'No Racism' – an indicator that stronger persuasive measures may be required to tackle the culture of racism amongst some Lazio fans who have a reputation for extreme right wing politics.
Last season the club had to play two home matches behind closed doors in the Europa League after fans racially insulted Borussia Moenchengladbach players.

Fans detained in Bolivia involved in more violence - 27/08/2013
Source : http://www.miamiherald.com
Two Corinthians fans recently released after nearly five months detained in Bolivia after the death of a 14-year-old boy during a Copa Libertadores match have been involved in fan violence over the weekend in Brazil.
The Estado de S. Paulo newspaper showed pictures of the men involved in a fight between supporters of Corinthians and Vasco da Gama during a match Sunday in Brasilia, prompting local authorities to sanction the supporters group.
The public safety department in the federal district announced Wednesday that it had banned the Gavioes da Fiel fan group from the Brasilia stadium for the next two years. The Independente group, linked to Corinthians' rival club Sao Paulo, also was banned after violence at the stadium a week ago. The groups are not allowed to get to within 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) of the venue.
The two men involved in the weekend violence had been among the 12 supporters who were detained in Bolivia after a flare allegedly thrown by Corinthians fans killed Kevin Beltran Espada in February.
The men were released after Bolivian authorities decided there was not enough evidence to convict them.

Arrests in Stoke after Port Vale and Wolves football match
Police were pelted with missiles and made 23 arrests after a disturbance broke out following a football match.
Staffordshire Police said a "minority of fans" confronted each other after a League One fixture between Port Vale and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The force said officers were "confronted by a significant group" of "violent" Port Vale fans.
Trouble spilled over into Burslem town centre in Stoke-on-Trent after the final whistle.
Port Vale lost the game 3-1 to visiting local rivals Wolves.
Staffordshire Police said it was now looking at CCTV footage from the day's fixture, in a bid to trace everybody who had a hand in causing trouble.
Port Vale said it would fully support any police action against any of its fans involved.
Extra policing had been brought in for the game.
Missiles and bottles were thrown at officers and a marked police car was vandalised.
Two adults suffered dog bites from police dog units and were treated by paramedics, according to the force.
Those arrested included nine people detained before kick-off. Another four were arrested during the match for offences including going on to the pitch and setting off flares.
Police said they were "disappointed" a "significant number" of fans had decided to cause trouble at the fixture, despite significant preparations between club officials and officers that were aimed at preventing trouble.
Staffordshire Police said fans from both sides had been involved but praised a group of Wolves fans who "co-operated with police by waiting in the away coach park while police worked to clear the area".
'Significant minority'
"We are disappointed by the actions of this significant number of so-called fans who attended today's fixture intent on becoming involved in disorder," said Ch Insp Dave Bird, of Staffordshire Police.
He added: "All those arrested will be questioned about their actions and CCTV evidence from today will be examined by officers.
"The behaviour of this significant minority doesn't represent the club or our city."
Meanwhile, Bill Lodey - Port Vale club secretary, said: "The club are bitterly disappointed regarding the violence that has been reported in Burslem town centre.
"We will fully support any actions taken by the police in apprehending those responsible and they can expect severe penalties."
