Hooligans attack police at Budapest football match
Újpest football supporters attacked police officers in the Fourth District Sunday afternoon ahead of a match against arch-rivals Ferencváros (FTC).
The trouble began when police detained a man for using an illegal firecracker.
Budapest Police spokeswoman Viktória Kovács said 10-15 people attacked a 200-strong phalanx of police officers, who restored order in minutes.
Proceedings have begun against a 34-year-old fan for the misdemeanour of abuse of pyrotechnics.
Meanwhile FTC fans greeted the Újpest supporters with stones, bottles and firecrackers at a metro station in the Ninth District.
Police fired tear gas at the mob and several squads of police officers dispersed the disorderly fans.

Linfield FC - Shamrock Rovers - Setenta Cup - 11/03/2013

Shamrock Rovers fans clash with police during Linfield game
There were disturbances during Linfield's Setanta Cup defeat against Shamrock Rovers at Windsor Park on Monday night.
Flares were thrown from the North Stand which housed Shamrock Rovers supporters. The fans also clashed with riot police.
It followed trouble between the teams in Dublin during the first leg of their quarter-final last week.
A police statement said it involved "a section of Shamrock Rovers fans".
"Police restored calm within the grounds and all fans were able to leave the match safely after the final whistle."

Almost 200 seats destroyed in Windsor violence
Sources at Linfield say that as many as 180 seats in the North Stand where the Shamrock Rovers fans were accommodated were either broken or damaged during the violence on Monday night.
Fans from the Dublin football club, were blamed for rioting during the match with Linfield that saw several members of the PSNI injured.
Police faced down troublemakers at the Setanta Cup match on Monday night at Windsor Park in Belfast.
The cross-border clash was stopped temporarily in the first half when a flare was thrown on to the pitch. Both sets of fans taunted each other with sectarian chants and a number of seats were thrown on to the pitch from the North Stand by Shamrock Rovers supporters.
Police officers in riot gear were called into the stand to deal with the situation.
A PSNI spokeswoman said officers dealt with a disturbance in Windsor Park on Monday night “involving a section of Shamrock Rovers fans”. She said: “A number of officers were injured while dealing with this disorder.”
Police said missiles were thrown at officers after the match by a small crowd in nearby Tates Avenue. The trouble was over in 10 minutes. Nobody was arrested but police are still investigating they said.
SDLP MLA Conall McDevitt also blamed the Dublin fans for the violence. “It appears that some Shamrock Rovers fans came to Belfast with the intent to engage in sectarian behaviour,” he said. “This is totally unacceptable and will be condemned by true football fans across the island.
“While tonight’s scenes follow violence by Linfield fans during the first leg in Dublin it remains unjustified and totally unjustifiable.”
There had been trouble in the first leg of the match in Dublin last week after Linfield fans hoisted a Union Flag inside Rovers’ Tallaght Stadium. On Sunday night, the day before the return game was due to take place in Belfast, Shamrock Rovers issued a statement opposing a “bring a flag” campaign by a single Rovers supporters’ club.
“The club notes the extremely stupid and reckless ‘bring a flag’ campaign engaged in by one supporters’ club,” Shamrock Rovers said. “This is not a children’s ‘no uniform day’ at school, we are seriously concerned to see this fixture treated so light-heartedly.” The club added that “provocative and idiotic behaviour on a public media forum [Facebook] in advance of such an important and sensitive fixture is a very poor reflection on those involved”.
After Monday’s match Rovers issued another statement saying it was “very disappointed by the behaviour of some of our fans at Windsor Park”. It added that out of more than 500 fans “about 20 caused the problems” and that the club is “looking closely at what happened and will take whatever action is necessary”.
Linfield supporter Mr Thompson from Belfast, who declined to give his first name, said Rovers supporters were singing republican songs when he arrived. Linfield supporters responded by singing The Billy Boys, a sectarian song, but were stopped by stewards, he said.
“Then Shamrock Rovers supporters pushed through the stewards towards the Linfield fans just as the game started. They were throwing flares, fireworks and bricks at Linfield fans and then at the police,” he said.
He said there were up to 40 riot police and said up to half of the Shamrock Rovers fans took part in the trouble.
He said: “The police had to use batons and their riot shields. The Shamrock fans gave advance warning about their plans to cause trouble on their Facebook pages. But their club had told them they did not want any of them travelling to Belfast.”
Stormont Sports Minister Caral Ni Chuilin said yesterday there was “no place for this type of behaviour in sport”. She said: “So much work has gone on behind the scenes to ensure that football takes place in a welcoming and friendly environment. I call on both clubs to assist the authorities in any investigation that follows last night’s disgraceful scenes.”

England : Police hunt six after hooliganism at South Yorkshire football derby - 13/03/2013
Source : http://www.thestar.co.uk
POLICE are hunting six football fans after hooliganism at a South Yorkshire derby.
Officers have released CCTV stills of supporters they believe may be able to help with their investigation into trouble which broke out when Barnsley FC played Sheffield Wednesday in December.
South Yorkshire Police said fans inside the Oakwell Stadium ground hurled missiles at rival supporters.
The force has not confirmed whether the males - two of them young teenagers - were home fans or in the away end, but said one they want to trace was wearing a Barnsley shirt under a jacket.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police in Barnsley have released CCTV images of six men they would like to speak to regarding alleged disorder and anti-social behaviour that took place at Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium.”
All the fans on the CCTV stills are white, of average build, with short hair.
Person one is described as about 6ft and aged between 17 and 22. On the day of the match he was wearing a dark hooded jacket and jeans.
The second man is aged 35 to 45, between 5ft 9in and 6ft, and was wearing a cream coloured hooded jacked and a dark baseball cap.
Person three is aged 18 to 25, between 5ft 9in and 6ft, and was wearing a green hooded jacket with a fur trim.
The fourth man is aged between 35 and 45, between 5ft 9in and 6ft, and was wearing a black hooded jacket with a red Barnsley FC home shirt beneath.
The two other supporters could be as young as 14 or 15.
Person five is thought to be aged between 14 and 16, between 5ft 4in and 5ft 6in, and was wearing a blue hooded sports top and black and yellow Adidas tracksuit bottoms.
The sixth is described as aged between 15 and 18, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 9in. He was wearing a sports top and a black body warmer.

"I was there in Lyon and Rome when Spurs fans were attacked, please don't let it happen again in Milan" - 13/03/2013
Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk
It happened in Rome and then it happened again in Lyon, too.
Tottenham fans enjoying an European away trip appeared to be targeted by right-wing thugs; not just because of their club colours, but because of Spurs’ strong, proud Jewish heritage.
And now, today, many of those fans will be travelling to Milan. Not again. Please, not again.
I saw what those hooligans did to the Smoking Dog pub in Lyon’s old town a few weeks ago and I spoke to several Tottenham fans afterwards. Some were Jewish, some were not. But many, men and women, had been genuinely scared that night, pinned inside a long narrow bar with only one exit while a gang threw flares and made Nazi salutes in two waves of attacks.
Others were more defiant, refusing to let something as ugly as fascism get in the way of them watching their team. Their club had supported them as much as it could while Lyon condemned the violence in the strongest terms.
UEFA, of course, did nothing.A few days after that trip to France I went to Italy to watch AC Milan draw 1-1 with Inter Milan. Stalls outside the San Siro sold inflatable bananas for Inter fans to wave at Mario Balotelli. The baiting and snarling of these so-called fans towards a black striker they used to call one of their own was disgusting. It was loud and unashamed, a throwback, but it also sparked trepidation about what English fans may have in store for them over the next 24 hours.
Tottenham fans have been warned not to decorate Milan’s stunning cathedral, the Duomo, with scarves or flags. They have also been told to stay away from any bars around the San Siro before kick-off on Thursday, which is, thankfully, relatively early at 7pm local time. FA, Tottenham and police representatives will monitor events, while the British consulate in Milan has also provided advice and can offer support.
Tomorrow, though, is less of a concern. It is tonight that could cause the problem, as Spurs fans spill out into the bars in Brera or Navigli, or find a central base near the Duomo. This is not about football any more, you see. Not again. Please, not again.
********************************************
Tottenham prepared for trip
UEFA will provide Tottenham Hotspur fans with a security officer for the second leg of their Europa League tie against Inter Milan in Italy. The Metropolitan Police will discuss the issue of English fans’ safety with the Italian authorities and the club are working with Inter, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and UEFA to ensure supporters travelling to the San Siro are safe. The issue of police protection during the evening for fans who arrive a day early in Milan is also being discussed. Spurs fans were attacked the night before each of their last two European away matches in Rome and Lyon. They were targeted in bars by reportedly far-Right groups. Last month three fans were taken to hospital and seven injured in Lyon. Back in November nine were injured in Rome ahead of their match against Lazio and supporter Ashley Mills was stabbed. No violence occurred when Tottenham visited Milan in 2010 and 2011 for Champions League fixtures and the Milan police have attempted to draw a distinction between the Italian capital and the northern city. The majority of Spurs fans have not been put off by the trouble in their previous two European visits and a greater police presence is planned for the main areas in Milan.

Bulgarian clubs handed crowd bans after fan violence - 12/03/2013

BFU's disciplinary commission Levski Sofia and Botev Plovdiv to play next home matches behind closed doors for fans troubles
Levski Sofia and Botev Plovdiv have been ordered to play their next home matches behind closed doors after hooliganism marred their league match on Saturday, the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) said.
The punishment, handed down by the BFU's disciplinary commission, will be in effect for Levski's game against Litex Lovech in the Bulgarian Cup's quarter-finals on Wednesday and Botev's league match against Cherno More Varna on April 6.
The Canaries, as Botev are known in the Balkan country, were also fined 10,000 levs ($6,700) and Levski were given a fine of 7,000 levs for the incidents, which led to several arrests and resulted in 11 policemen being injured.
Hundreds of Botev and Levski supporters clashed with riot police during Botev's 2-0 win in front of a full house at Plovdiv's Hristo Botev stadium with one of the policemen suffering a broken leg.
The match was interrupted for a few minutes in the first half after fans fought with each other and threw a large number of flares, fireworks and stones.
Botev announced they would appeal against the sanction with their sporting director Alexander Alexandrov saying "it's not fair for the club to suffer because of 50-100 people".
Levski are second in the standings with 40 points from 17 games, two points behind Ludogorets. Europa League hopefuls Botev are fifth on 32.
Violence inside and outside stadiums has plagued Bulgarian football this season, endangering the safety of players and fans. In August, first division club Minyor Pernik was given a three-match stadium ban following crowd trouble during their league match.

England : Coventry City fans banned from matches for three years - 14/03/2013
Source : http://www.coventrytelegraph.net
TWO Coventry City fans who were arrested after an away game at Crewe have been banned from attending games for three years.
William Brock, 18, of Coventry, was kicked out of the Alexandra Stadium at half time and subsequently charged with using threatening words. Michael Dowling, 55, of Corley, was arrested after the game finished and charged with using threatening words and behaviour.
Coventry City won the second leg of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game against Crewe Alexandra last month, but lost the tie.
Earlier this week Brock and Dowling both attended South Cheshire Magistrates Court to be sentenced.
Brock pleaded guilty and was conditionally discharged for a year and ordered to pay £100 costs.
The charge against Dowling was withdrawn and a new charge of assault by beating was entered, to which he pleaded guilty.
He received the same sentence and both received three year football banning orders.

Inter Milan face more racism accusations
There were renewed calls for action against racism in Italian football on Friday after Inter Milan fans were accused of abusing Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor in a Europa League last 16 clash in the San Siro.
Adebayor, who scored his side's crucial away goal in a 4-1 defeat in the second leg that saw them scrape through to the quarter-finals, was subjected to monkey chants and plastic bananas were waved in one section of the half-empty stadium.
"It's very easy to hear the chanting so I'm sure UEFA will act on it," Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas told reporters after Thursday's match.
British newspapers lambasted Inter and the Italian game on Friday.
The latest racism incident follows last month's Milan derby in which former Inter striker Mario Balotelli was racially abused by fans, leading to Inter being fined 50,000 euros ($64,900).
Lazio, who have a long-standing right wing element among their fans, were ordered by UEFA last month to play two matches behind closed doors after racism by their fans in Europa League matches against Tottenham, Maribor and Borussia Moenchengladbach.
The Rome club have reached the last eight of the Europa League having beaten VfB Stuttgart, with the home leg played in an empty stadium.

England : Hull City fans protest against travel restrictions for Huddersfield match - 16/03/2013
Source : http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk
HULL City fans shouted loud and proud during a protest ahead of today's game against Nottingham Forest.
Tigers' supporters walked behind a banner which read 'we are not criminals we are free fans'.
The protest is against the plans by West Yorkshire Police to implement travel restrictions for Hull City fans wanting to travel to the away match at Huddersfield on March 30.
Sanctions by the police mean fans will have to travel to the Yorkshire derby either on official coaches from Hull, or park up at Hartshead Moor Services on the M62, collect their tickets and be driven to the stadium on official coaches, irrespective of how they travel to the game.
Hull City fans have also only been given 1,700 tickets, when the away stand capacity is 4,000.
Campaigners said they were "very impressed" by the turn-out as they met at West Park gates this afternoon and walked to the KC Stadium.

Celtic fans' fury as Green Brigade accuse Strathclyde Police of 'heavy-handed' tactics
POLICE arrested 13 supporters and said the the crowd appeared to be attempting to stage an illegal street procession on the way to today's match against Aberdeen.
CELTIC fans have accused police of going over the top after they arrested 13 supporters on the way to Parkhead.
The Green Brigade group of fans claim that Strathclye Police officers formed a cordon - known as “kettling” - for no good reason.
Dramatic pictures show some officers wielding their metal batons at some fans with covered faces.
The force accused some of being “confrontational and aggressive” and stood by their tactics.
The fans held back by police said they would complain about the “heavy handed” tactics.
The group of fans had been surrounded by more than 200 officers including some mounted on horses.
The incident happened near the Chrystal Bell pub at Gallowgate around 1pm ahead of the 4-3 home win against Aberdeen.
Prior to the match, the Green Brigade, who have been hailed by club bosses for bringing passion to Parkhead but criticised for going over the score with banners and chants, posted on its website plans for a protest and march.
They said that it was “to raise awareness and show support for the growing list of Celtic supporters receiving and facing bans” from the Scottish Premier League football club and the procurator fiscal.
The fans group also predicted there may be trouble, adding: “Please be mindful of the police presence and their actions. Please do not play into their hands.
“Avoid all communication as far as possible, have witnesses around you and a camera at hand to film/photograph them.”
Law firm Gildeas Solicitors - who act for the Green Brigade - urged anyone with photos or videos to contact them.
One Twitter user said: “A chopper, police vans and dogs out for a peaceful march? Everyone is trying to walk along the road and the police are physically blocking us.
“It was a peaceful march but police have stopped it.
Strathclyde Police said: “At around 1pm yesterday, police were called to reports of a large number of people gathering outside the Chrystal Bell pub at Gallowgate, Glasgow.
“The crowd, many of whom were wearing similar hooded tops and using scarfs to hide their identities, appeared to be attempting to stage an illegal street procession and officers were deployed to prevent this.
“The crowd were instructed that any procession on the road was illegal but that officers would facilitate a safe and orderly procession on the pavements toward their intended destination at Celtic Park.
“However, this was ignored and more officers were deployed as the crowd became increasingly confrontational and aggressive. The situation was contained a short time later.
“A number of arrests have been made for alleged public order offences. CCTV and helicopter footage was captured and will be studied as part of the investigation.”
