England : Police hunt hooligans in town centre pub brawl - 27/03/2013
Source : http://www.burtonmail.co.uk
CCTV images have been released of men police want to speak to following a pub brawl and a smoke bomb set off during a Burton Albion match.
The appeal also follows a flare being set off during the Brewers Vs Rotherham game, and finally disorder in Rileys Pool and Snooker Club, in High Street.
The first incident happened at around 12.55pm on Saturday, February 9, in the Lord Burton pub, in High Street, between Rotherham and Leeds fans who had stopped off in Burton en route to their team’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The group was dispersed by police.
During the Burton Vs Rotherham game a smoke bomb and flare were set off in the away terrace by Rotherham supporters and a number of fans were ejected. Towards the end of the game plastic bottles and coins were thrown at officials and police.
After the game a small group of Rotherham supporters went into Rileys just before 6pm and were involved in a fight. Police attended and the group were dispersed, uninjured.
Working with South Yorkshire Police and Burton Albion Football Club, officers have identified of number of people
Chief Inspector Dave Bird, the force’s lead on football planning, said: “We have worked alongside Burton Albion for a number of years to ensure that the Pirelli Stadium is a safe place to attend. When disorder does occur and we can identify those involved we will deal with them robustly and seek to prosecute them.
“This match was attended by around 1,900 Rotherham fans and those involved in these incidents account for only a small minority. The vast majority watched the match, along with home supporters, and remained in good spirits causing no problems whatsoever.
“As part of our post match investigation we are releasing CCTV images of several men who we want to speak to about their involvement in the incidents.”

Hillsborough disaster: IPCC report on Bettison allegations - 28/03/2013
Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk
A police watchdog has said a former chief constable could have been sacked for his actions following the publication of a damning report into the Hillsborough disaster.
Sir Norman Bettison would have a "case to answer for gross misconduct" if he was a serving officer, the IPCC found.
It concluded he tried to influence public perception as West Yorkshire Police Authority was deciding whether to refer him to the IPCC.
His solicitor criticised the findings.
'Dismissal justified'
The Independent Police Complaint Commission's report concluded that Sir Norman, who resigned last year, had a case to answer for discreditable conduct and abuse of authority.
Deborah Glass, deputy chair of the IPCC, said: "It was the IPCC's view at the start of the investigation, as it was the view of his Police Authority, that Sir Norman's actions, if proven, fell so far short of what is expected of a chief constable that dismissal would be justified.
"The evidence uncovered during the investigation supports that view.
"While we cannot bring this case to misconduct proceedings, we can publish the evidence and our conclusions, so that the public can judge for themselves."
Sir Norman's solicitor, John Harding, said the way in which the investigation had been handled "called into question the fairness of such a process."
He said: "The decision that there is a case to answer is not a finding of guilt. This point is accepted, explicitly, in the foreword of the IPCC report and it therefore sits, uncomfortably, with some of the comments in the investigator's report, made after an incomplete investigation.
"Sir Norman voluntarily attended interview, provided a written statement and invited the IPCC to interview witnesses. Since there can be no formal misconduct hearing my client is denied the opportunity to call those witnesses, which the IPCC declined to interview, and is denied the opportunity to put his case and challenge other evidence."
'Own self-interest'
Margaret Aspinall, of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, said Sir Norman should be stripped of his knighthood.
She said: "In the IPCC's own words, this was gross misconduct and, in my mind, that is a very serious offence and the fact that he resigned should not mean that this report is the end of it.
"We want to see him stripped of his honours - his knighthood and his Honorary Fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University."
Mrs Aspinall, whose 18-year-old son James died at Hillsborough, added: "I believe he resigned to protect his pension and his behaviour has shown he is not deserving of that pension."
The investigation related to the period following the publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report, which laid bare police attempts to shift the blame for the tragedy to the victims.
While serving with the South Yorkshire force, Sir Norman was a key figure in compiling its report into how it handled the aftermath of the tragedy.
A separate IPCC investigation into his conduct at that time is ongoing but Sir Norman has always denied being involved in any cover-up.
Last autumn, following his resignation as chief constable, the West Yorkshire Police Authority asked the IPCC to investigate whether he had tried to interfere with its inquiries into his role at Hillsborough.
The IPCC report concluded while he had not tried to prevent the referral from happening he had "attempted to manipulate the public perception of the referral process for his own self-interest."
When he resigned last October Sir Norman said he would co-operate fully with the IPCC investigations.

Copa Argentina Match Abandoned As Police Use Giant Water Hoses To Beat Back Pitch-Invading Fans
When Quilmes visited Union Villa Krause in the Copa Argentina on Wednesday night, things got a bit out of hand. At the end of the first half, away side Quilmes was leading 3-0 and the referee had already sent off Union Villa Krause striker Ariel Sánchez for diving in the Quilmes box. The UVK supporters were, shall we say, displeased, and ripped holes in the perimeter fence to storm the pitch in protest. Not sure how that would’ve helped matters, but rationality and anger don’t always intersect.
On-site police, however, responded in kind. And by in kind, we mean firing water from giant hoses at the rioting fans. In the video below, you can see one such example: a fan that had broken through was beaten back by water and retreated in defeat.
If you couldn’t have guessed, the match was abandoned.

6 injured during chaotic ticket sales for inaugural match at World Cup venue in Brazil - 29/03/2013
Source : http://www.foxnews.com
Authorities say six people sustained minor injuries in chaotic scenes as thousands of fans tried to buy tickets for the inaugural football game at the Arena Fonte Nova in northeastern Brazil, one of the venues for next year's World Cup.
Police used pepper spray and tear gas to contain the crowd in the city of Salvador after fans began to clash as organizers started running out of tickets Friday.
Some fans tried to break through the stadium's gates to get inside the stadium.
Most of the 40,000 tickets for the game between local rivals Bahia and Vitoria had already been sold online.

France : Marseille request for fans to attend game rejected - 29/03/2013
Source : http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com
Marseille fans will not be allowed to attend this weekend's Ligue 1 game at Nice after a French tribunal rejected the club's request for a temporary injunction.
Marseille said on their website that the decision by Nice's administrative tribunal meant the Interior Ministry decree banning their fans from travelling to the Cote D'Azur on security grounds was now definitive.
Some 800 fans had planned to attend the game at the Stade du Ray on Sunday.
For safety reasons ahead of what is considered a high-risk game, the Nice prefectural office had planned to deploy some 200 extra state policemen.

Police clash with football fans after Plymouth Argyle victory over Exeter City
POLICE officers armed with batons, riot helmets and on horseback clashed with rival football fans outside Home Park following Plymouth Argyle's 1-0 win over Exeter City this afternoon.
Large groups of supporters from both sides had to be forcibly restrained after the final whistle. Most Argyle fans left peacefully, but many stayed behind for about half an hour after the match to taunt the visitors as they were escorted to their coaches.
Officers used batons, dogs and horses to keep the fans separate, and many appeared to struggle to keep control as the incident threatened to escalate.
A smaller group of Exeter fans left the stadium on foot and had to be kept apart from Argyle fans as they walked up Outland Road.
Three people were arrested for public order offences following the scenes at the end of the game, and one police officer was treated for a minor injury.
A police spokesman said: "Devon and Cornwall Police would like to thank supporters from Plymouth and Exeter and officials from both clubs for their positive engagement with the police."
About 160 officers were involved in the operation, including officers on horseback from Avon and Somerset and South Wales Police.

Australia : Newcastle Jets - Western Sydney Wanderers - 29/03/2013
Source : http://www.theherald.com.au
Fan punched, kicked after football game
A NEWCASTLE Jets fan said he was walking out of the gates at Hunter Stadium on Friday night when he was suddenly king-hit to the ground and repeatedly kicked in the head.
Danny Hersee, 22, from Merewether Heights – a member of the Jets supporter group Zad’s Lads – told the Newcastle Herald he was minding his own business, lamenting his team’s 3-0 loss when the attack occurred.
‘‘I was walking out of the stadium by myself, my mates were a bit further ahead of me, when I heard some of the Western Sydney Wanderers fans cheering and celebrating,’’ he said.
‘‘They started yelling things out to me, abusing me and I said something like: ‘‘yeah good game, you guys won’’.
‘‘Then out of nowhere I was hit in the jaw, which knocked me straight to the ground.
‘‘I just started getting kicked in the head until someone came over and broke it up.’’
Mr Hersee said suffered bruising to his jaw and has been unable to eat since the attack.
Newcastle police chief John Gralton told the Herald that police had charged a man with assault in relation to an incident outside the ground after the match.
Superintendent Gralton had been pleased with the behaviour of the vast majority of the 22,000-plus football fans, after having to make only one arrest and three evictions from Hunter Stadium.

Russia : Terek Grozny - Zenit St. Petersburg - 31/03/2013
Source : http://en.rsport.ru
Tougher Security for Terek-Zenit Clash
Police in Russia’s southern region of Dagestan said they have beefed up security for a Russian Premier League game between Terek Grozny and Zenit St. Petersburg that was moved there in controversial circumstances.
The Russian FA banned Terek from hosting Sunday's game after Chechnya regional leader and honorary club president Ramzan Kadyrov confronted the referee at their last fixture, a goalless draw at home to Rubin Kazan.
“During the game, a large number of personnel from all police departments will be deployed, including officers of the Chechen police,” Dagestan traffic police lieutenant colonel Isamagomed Sultanov told RIA Novosti.
The match will be the second to be held at Anzhi Makhachkala’s new ground, the Anzhi Arena, and Sultanov said traffic officers would be looking to prevent “real chaos” that had previously erupted on surrounding roads due to a lack of parking facilities.
The vice-president of Terek, Khaidar Alkhanov, told R-Sport on Tuesday that the club is taking the stadium-ban sanction to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after an appeal was rejected by the Russian FA.
Terek, who sit in eighth place in the Russian Premier League standings, are owned by Kadyrov's regional government. Kadyrov has offered to pay transportation, food and ticket costs for fans traveling to Dagestan through a charity fund.
Zenit fans have been involved in violence on previous trips to Dagestan, including a mass brawl with police in 2011.

Second Man Arrested Over Fatal Attack on Football Fan
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with an attack on a Zenit St. Petersburg football fan who later died in hospital, St. Petersburg investigators said Sunday.
Evgeny Dmitriev was hurt in a brawl near the Griboedov canal in central St. Petersburg on February 24 and died three weeks later of head injuries. Hundreds of fans reportedly attended his funeral.
The second suspect was arrested in the Caucasus region of Dagestan, where Zenit are playing Terek Grozny in the Russian Premier League on Sunday.
“On March 31, 2013, the 23-year-old Marat Musaev was arrested in the Repulic of Dagestan by investigators and officers of the St. Petersburg and Leningrad region police,” investigators said in a website statement.
Musaev is suspected of the offense of causing bodily harm and is to be transferred to St. Petersburg.
Ilya Khubaev, a 26-year-old St. Petersburg resident, was arrested last week in connection with Dmitriev’s death but has since been released without charge, investigators said.
“During the course of a large range of investigative activities and operational search events, his lack of involvement in the committing of the crime was established,” investigators said of Khubaev.
Football-related violence is a persistent problem in Russia, where lawmakers are considering various proposals to tighten anti-hooliganism laws in preparation for hosting the 2018 World Cup.
In St. Petersburg, tensions between fans of Zenit and Dagestan-based Anzhi Makhachkala have resulted in several mass brawls over the past year, leading to a police initiative to calm relations between Zenit supporters and leaders of the city's Dagestani ethnic minority.
