England fan arrested after Bologna bar brawl ends with man in coma - 23/03/2013

Source : http://metro.co.uk

An England fan has been arrested after a Bologna bar brawl ended with another man in a coma, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

The incident took place ahead of England’s Group H World Cup qualifier last night following a fight outside the Bounty pub where dozens of fans had gathered.

Reports in Italy say that the 21-year-old man, named as Matthew Mabey, was arrested by police in the Italian city which is 75 miles (120km) from the enclave republic where the match took place.

Italian daily La Repubblica reports that a 65-year-old England fan was left in a coma in hospital after having major surgery on a head injury.

They report the 65-year-old was defending himself with a bar stool as he was attacked before being punched and hitting his head on the ground as he fell.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: ‘We can confirm the arrest of a British national in Italy on March 21. We are providing consular assistance.’

England scored a resounding 8-0 victory in San Marino thanks to a first-half goal glut against the World Cup Group H minnows.

Tigers - FC United of Manchester - 23/03/2013

Source : http://www.worksopguardian.co.uk

Police called to Tigers’ game

Police officers were called to Worksop Town FC’s match on Saturday over fears that disorder could break out between fans.

Notts Police said officers were alered to the potential for tension between home and away side supporters when some fans arrived after drinking alcohol.

A crowd of just over 800 attended Saturday’s match between Tigers and FC United of Manchester.

Notts Police said officers created segregation between the two sets of fans. They remained at the game for the duration of the match, before they escorted fans away from the Sandy Lane ground.

A Notts Police spokesman said: “One notice to leave was issued but no arrests were made.”

“Notts Police are in liaison with the football club to review the event and to assess security and safety at future events. “

Tigers secretary Keith Illet said they had notified police of potential trouble before game because of the size of the crowd expected.

“When we get a crowd of more than 500 it can potentially be a problem because an element of people come from Worksop that usually don’t come to the games,” he said.

“We brought it to the attention of police. Something had been written on Facebook saying that some people were coming to the match to cause trouble.”

Mr Illet said the club’s safety officer called police after a group of Tigers fans, who had been drinking, arrived and stood with the away supporters. Police arrived within minutes, spoke to some fans and the game passed off without incident.

Mr Illet said: “It worked well (with the police) this time. We aready had extra stewards of our own there and had notified police. We saw that there was a problem and our safety officer came to me and we notified police, who came immediately. It came off perfectly and it was a great result for us on the pitch.”

Mr Illet added that Tigers would ask for a police presence with crowds of more than 1,000 people.

Australia : Western Sydney - Sydney FC - 23/03/2013

Source : http://au.news.yahoo.com

Western Sydney soccer fans who terrorised diners at a Parramatta restaurant are being called hooligans by the state's sports minister.

He wants the Wanderers supporters identified and banned for life, to send a clear message that Sydney will not tolerate the football violence seen in Europe, here.
"We don't want to see the problems of Europe, Britain or South America being imported here to our sporting fixtures," Police Minister Mike Gallacher said.

Inside the grounds it was harmless enough.

"It was a great event - it was great to see a sell-out crowd there," New South Wales Sports Minister Graham Annesley said.

A Wanderers fan said that given the intensity of the game, he thought the crowd was well behaved.

But in the nearby streets rivalry between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers fans turned ugly.
A Wanderers fan was caught on camera throwing a glass on a table in a Parramatta restaurant.

Three young men were then arrested, two for assault and a third for intimidating police and resisting arrest.

The Football Federation of Australia said those fans who disturbed the enjoyment of fellow fans with anti-social behavior have no place in the game.
“They're there to cause trouble I'd call them hooligans for sure," the sports minister said.

Four others were caught for offensive behaviour and using flares.

The sports minister says A-League bosses would do well to learn from the experience of NRL clubs in successfully dealing with their infamous supporters.

He wants any other positively identified troublemakers banned from A-League matches.

"The Bulldogs went through this in Rugby League some years ago, and they now have a really really well behaved fan base."

Hooligan horror as Western Sydney Wanderers fans run riot

DISGRACEFUL scenes of violence and intimidation by fans of the Western Sydney Wanderers football club have forced Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione to bolster officer numbers at future matches.

Frightening video of fans terrorising families before Saturday night's A-League derby at Parramatta came to light yesterday. More than 100 Wanderers supporters were filmed surrounding an outside section of a restaurant, yelling, swearing and spitting. A plate and a glass were thrown, hitting a Sydney FC fan who was dining with friends.

Innocent patrons, including children and the elderly, were caught up in the violence as they dined at a steak restaurant near the Riverside Theatre.

The behaviour of the group was as cowardly as it was distasteful, with their numbers ensuring no one at the restaurant could take a stand against their vile actions.

One of the diners who filmed the incident, an ex-policeman who wished to be identified only as "Paul", described the melee outside the Ribs and Rumps restaurant as "pretty frightening".

"The fans were aggressive, spitting and hurling abuse. I had my two daughters, nine and 11, and other family there and I was worried it could explode," Paul said.

"Luckily the Sydney fan sat down and didn't retaliate or else I think there was real possibility of a riot."

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the restaurant to identify victims and those involved in any criminal acts.

The violence was not limited to outside the stadium, with more troublemakers - including pitch invaders - arrested inside during the match.

Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop last night described the incident as the "antics of a few morons", despite the images clearly showing there were vastly more than a few responsible for the disturbing scenes.

"We will be vigilant and methodical in weeding out anti-social elements. When we say 'zero-tolerance' we mean it," Mr Gallop said.

"I know the vast majority of fans are just as disgusted as I am about the rogue elements."

Mr Scipione received a full briefing yesterday from the local area commander Superintendent Robert Redfern and viewed the video taken by Paul, which was given to 2GB's Ray Hadley.

Supt Redfern said more than 160 police were deployed for the match and there would be more at future games.

"This is unacceptable and if it takes 100 police more we will be there," he said.

Supt Redfern said he would be passing on information about Wanderers fans to Newcastle police ahead of the club's clash against the Jets on Friday. About 8000 Wanderers fans are expected to travel north to the match.

"We will be passing on intelligence and who to watch out for," Supt Redfern said.

"Had we not had the resources of 160 police on hand the situation could have been a lot worse."

Scotland : Number of bans given to football hooligans triples in three years - 23/03/2013

Source : http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk

THE number of Football Banning Orders rose from 33 in 2010 to 92 last year and officials have described the rise as a significant.

THE number of thugs banned from football matches in Scotland has almost trebled in three years.

Government figures show that the number of Football Banning Orders rose from 33 in 2010 to 92 last year.

Officials described the rise as a significant and said hooligans needed to be reminded that the law would protect real fans from their behaviour.

Clubs have the power to ban supporters from their own grounds but have no power over travelling fans.

However, chief constables can apply to the courts for banning orders to stop notorious thugs attending any “regulated” football match in Scotland.

The increase in the use of bans was revealed in the Scottish Parliament after a question by Lib Dem MSP Alison McInnes.

Community Safety and Legal Affairs Minister Roseanna Cunningham replied: “There were 33, 86 and 92 football banning orders issued in 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively.”

A Scottish Government spokeswoman said: “We welcome the significant increase in the number of football banning orders.

“These bans protect real football fans and make very clear to those indulging in sectarian and other offensive behaviour that it is not welcome in Scottish football.

“We are also supporting the football authorities to address sectarianism through the Joint Action Group, which has agreed 41 actions with the football authorities, clubs and police.

“We have invested £1.8million over two years in a new national football policing unit, deployed at more than 300 games.

“We have also committed £9million over three years to tackle the root causes of sectarianism, by supporting wide-ranging community projects across Scotland.”

The latest banning order imposed in Scotland was handed down on Wednesday to a fan caught with a knuckleduster at an SPL game.

Hibs supporter Tom McFarlane, 24, was found with the weapon at Dundee’s Dens Park stadium after trouble flared between home and away fans.

Police spotted McFarlane trying to leave the ground after the bust-up and found the knuckleduster in his jacket. He was given an 18-month banning order as well as 130 hours of community service.

A Crown Office spokeswoman said: “The decision on whether to grant a banning order is made by the sheriff or judge hearing the case.

“The prosecutor will set out as strong a case as possible that a banning order is appropriate.”

Holland : Justice minister pledges to get tough on first-time football hooligans - 15/03/2013

Source : http://www.expatica.com

Football hooligans will face stadium bans and other measures from their first offence, under tough new draft legislation outlined by justice minister Ivo Opstelten.

The rules will allow mayors to ban named hooligans from certain areas for long periods or force them to report to the police at match times after their first conviction for serious public order offences.

At the moment mayors can only impose banning orders on first offenders for one or two matches and can't require hooligans to register their presence with the police.

One year

The draft legislation will allow mayors to ban hooligans from certain parts of town for up to 90 days, spread over a full year. This means they can better target individuals and ensure they cannot attend games for a longer period, Opstelten says. Persisent offenders can be banned for up to five years.

Although the new rules have been drawn up to deal with football-related violence, they can also be applied to other events where public order is an issue, Nos television said.

The draft legislation has been sent to the public prosecution department and legal experts for their recommendations.

MONTENEGRO HOOLIGANS TARGET ENGLAND FOOTBALL FANS - 26/03/2013

Source : http://www.dailystar.co.uk

FOOTBALL hooligans from Montenegro have sent a series of threats to Three Lions fans travelling to tonight’s game.

Yobs from the east European country wrote “Death to England” online and told supporters to “watch your heads”.

The sick messages were posted on a YouTube video of England fans singing the national anthem.

One Montenegro yob wrote: “ENGLAND PUSSYS WE WAITING YOU IN MARCH! TRY TO SAVE YOUR HEADS IN PODGORICA!”

A website user called Srbija Pravoslavlje added: “DEATH TO ENGLAND.”

Thugs also posted vile messages about the Queen and claimed solidarity with Argentina over the Falklands.

The taunts come after Montenegro nuts invaded the pitch when England and Wayne Rooney, 27, played there in 2011.

Montenegro has a hardcore hooligan faction called Ultras, who are known for ambushing away fans outside the stadium.

The Montenegro Football Association has pleaded with their supporters to behave.

President Dejan Savicevic said: “I’d like to appeal to our fans to cheer and support our players in a sporting manner and in the right fashion. I’m saying this because, in the last year and a half, our association has had to pay penalties of up to 90,000 Euros after incidents at this ground.”

The English FA recently organised a meeting between opposing fans so English supporters could get travelling advice.

Brawl breaks out between Montenegro fans ahead of crunch qualifier against England

There were unsavoury scenes ahead of England's clash against Montenegro as a mass brawl broke out in a section of the home support.

Before kick-off in the Group H World Cup qualifier in Podgorica, a number of Montenegro fans were filmed attacking one another in a vicious fight at the City Stadium.

The atmosphere in and around the stadium had been predictably hostile in the build up to the match, with riot police surrounding the arena as fans made their way to the ground.

There were also disturbing images of an England fan who had reportedly been involved in a scuffle with a group of Montenegro supporters.

The man is being aided by a local police officer as he lies on the ground, clutching a nasty-looking head wound.

During the build-up to the match there were few other reports of trouble between either set of fans, and the home crowd impeccably observed England's national anthems with applause before and afterwards.

A number of supporters had flares on the street, as a heavy police presence patrolled around the ground.

Exeter vs Plymouth: Police say derby day troublemakers will be "dealt with robustly" - 26/03/2013

Source : http://www.thisisexeter.co.uk

Police preparing for the Devon derby game between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City say they will deal with any trouble makers 'robustly'.

A spokesperson for Plymouth Argyle said they are keen to ensure Exeter City fans visiting the city this Saturday enjoy a competitive game of football, where the match is remembered for the right reasons.

And Superintendent Chris Eastwood, police match commander said: “My message is clear – this is an event for families to enjoy, young and old and let’s keep the rivalry and banter good natured. Anyone who has other ideas will be dealt with robustly.

"The police have been working closely with both clubs to ensure appropriate resources – police and stewards – are in place so fans can attend the match and leave the stadium area safely.

Superintendent Eastwood continued: “I would ask all supporters to listen out for requests from police and stewards on the day – before, during and after the match. This will help us to ensure supporters can get in and out of the ground as efficiently as possible.”

Argyle stadium manager and safety officer Dave Boobyer said: “Everyone at Home Park is looking forward to a great game between two sides with everything to play for.

“It should be a wonderful occasion – one to be eagerly anticipated and enjoyed by all.”

Superintendent Eastwood said: "I want everybody to have an enjoyable day in Plymouth. I’d also like to reassure supporters that while there will be a police presence, we’re there to assist Plymouth Argyle stage a great game of football.”

Exeter City chief executive Julian Tagg feels that football fans in Devon are among the best in the country – as well as reinforcing the great behind-the-scenes relationship that the two clubs have.

He said: “We’re delighted with the positive atmosphere created by all the fans at last year’s recent City v Argyle match at St James Park. It was a loud and colourful occasion despite the weather.

Everyone was able to enjoy it without it being spoilt by any mischief-makers and our fans are travelling with the view that it will be exactly the same at Home Park.

“We have an exceptional relationship with Plymouth, and all our neighbours in football, especially when it comes to working together and pulling in the same direction off the pitch. We have a healthy rivalry, which is historic and hugely important, but behind the scenes the Devon clubs meet regularly to get their heads together to see how they can all help each other through these difficult times.”

Superintendent Chris Eastwood said: "I would encourage supporters to arrive at the ground earlier than usual as there’s likely to be delays due to ticket checks. If you don’t have a ticket, then please don’t come to the ground and away fans will not be allowed to remain in the ground.
