UEFA fine Hearts £4000 for Europa League pitch invasion at Anfield - 21/09/2012

Source : http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk

FANS of the Tynecastle club spilled on to the Anfield pitch after David Templeton's late goal had levelled the tie on aggregate.

HEARTS have been fined £4000 after supporters spilled out of the stand when they took the lead against Liverpool at Anfield.

David Templeton's late goal levelled the Europa League tie on aggregate before Luis Suarez put Liverpool into the group stages.

A UEFA statement read: "Heart of Midlothian FC have been fined £5000 by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body for "pitch invasion by supporters" at last month's UEFA Europa League play-off second-leg match at Anfield Road between Liverpool FC and the Scottish club."

Nottingham Forest - Derby County - 30/09/2012

Source : http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk

POLICE made 12 arrests following the Derby County match against Nottingham Forest yesterday.

PC Rob Beeston, the football intelligence officer for Derbyshire police, was on duty during the match.

He said there were several skirmishes and that six fans of each club were held.

He added: "It's always a very heated match and, inside the stadium, there's tension. There was a bit of coin-throwing going on but the culprits have been arrested.

"There have not been any major incidents or problems. Confrontations between supporters at a match like this are inevitable but the police have managed to keep most of that at bay."

South Africa : Moroka Swallows - Mamelodi Sundowns - 30/09/2012

Source : http://soccernet.espn.go.com

Sundowns coach Neeskens attacked

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Johan Neeskens has said he will not quit his job at the South African club despite being attacked by fans after a defeat to Moroka Swallows.

The attack came less than a month after Neeskens had needed a police escort following an earlier league setback.

The loss to Moroka Swallows - a fourth league defeat of the season - sparked a pitch invasion. Missiles were thrown and the dugouts knocked over, and supporters breached security to reach Neeskens in the tunnel.

Pictures emerged showing the coach, twice a World Cup runner-up with Netherlands, covering his head with his hands in an attempt to shield himself from blows.

The attack happened despite policemen flanking him on both sides. Police and security forces were able to regain control and escort him out of the ground.

The situation at Sundowns is dire, despite the wealth of owner Patrice Motsepe, a mining billionaire described by some as "the Roman Abramovich of Africa".

They languish third from the bottom of the table and have not won a match since the first day of the season in early August.

The Sundowns have not won the league since 2006-07 season, and they have been through four coaches since then. The first of them, Frenchmen Henri Michel, resigned after a year in charge when an angry mob demanded he quit.

Neeskens, however, has vowed not to be hounded out. "This problem is for the club and the players ... pressure will always be there, but I can handle it," he said.

South Africa's Premier Soccer League administration has expressed disappointment at the violence.

The organisation's acting chief executive, Cambridge Mokanyane, called it "unacceptable," and said it "cannot be tolerated."

He reiterated that the safety of players and fans was the league's "utmost priority", but did not say anything about the wellbeing of coaches.

England : Walton & Hersham - Brentwood Town - 29/09/2012

Source : http://www.brentwoodweeklynews.co.uk

Fan attacked at football match

A FOOTBALL fan was attacked as he left a stadium following a match involving Brentwood Town on Saturday.

The incident happened at the Walton Stadium, in Walton-on-Thames, at about 5.40pm as spectators exited after the FA Trophy first qualifying round game between Walton & Hersham and Brentwood.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s and a supporter of the home side, was assaulted near to the main gate as he was leaving the stadium about an hour after the match, won 2-1 by the visitors, had finished.

A 45-year-old and a 47-year-old man, both from Essex, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “We cannot confirm at this stage whether the arrested men were Brentwood fans, but we can confirm they were both from Essex.”

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment to the head injuries he received.

Sgt Nev Parsons, one of the investigating officers from Surrey Police, has urged any supporters at the match to come forward and help with the force’s investigations.

Sgt Parsons said: “I would appeal to anyone who attended the match between Walton and Brentwood today and who witnessed the assault or the events leading up to it to contact officers with information.

“There were plenty of people in the vicinity at the time of the assault which has left the victim requiring treatment in hospital and we need to bring those responsible to justice.”

The suspects have been released on conditional bail until October 25 while the investigation continues.

South West Durham men with links to English Defence League fined over racist chants after Middlesbrough game - 15/09/2012

Source : https://charliestoney.wordpress.com

A group of men linked to the English Defence League have been fined for chanting racially motivated abuse after attending a football match.

The six, from south-west Durham, were found guilty of shouting highly inflammatory chants at Middlesbrough railway station.

Yesterday, more than 50 members of the far-right organisation gathered outside Teesside Magistrates’ Court to show their support, and anger flared when court officials would only allow five of them in the public gallery.

There was a heavy police presence in the town after supporters met in a nearby pub before going to the court.

The court heard how the men, who represented themselves at last month’s trial, shouted abuse at the station in December last year, after Middlesbrough’s game against Brighton.

The court was told they were singing EDL chants and when they started singing a highly inflammatory religious chant, a police officer decided to eject them from the station.

As the group left, one of the men, Christopher Caswell, 32, became aggressive and raised his fist and a British Transport Police officer responded by spraying him with CS gas and calling for police back-up.

Paul Ross , 47, who told the court he runs the south-west Durham division of the EDL, said the group had just been taking part in a bit of banter.

Kevin Smallcombe, in mitigation, said: “All of the defendants will recognise the decision that this court has made, but that is not to say it is accepted, and there will be an appeal.”

Elizabeth Hutchinson, the chairwoman of the bench, said: “You knew exactly what you were doing and you deliberately set out to use racially abusive language and intimidate members of the public, in particular the PC who was carrying out his duties.”

Jak Beasley, 23, of Cedar Road, Bishop Auckland , was ordered to pay £970 in fines and costs; Caswell, 32, of West Auckland Road, Darlington, was ordered to pay £970; Ross, 48 of Auckland Wynd, Shildon , was ordered to pay £1,040; Shaun Bunting, 33, of Fenhall Green, Newton Aycliffe , was ordered to pay £935; Ross Williams, 23, of Ebberston Court, Spennymoor , was also ordered to pay £935 and Dean Spence, 22, of Yew Close, Spennymoor, was ordered to pay £970.

When the fines were announced, one supporter was ordered out of the public gallery for swearing, and others started chanting when the six defendants left the court building.
