Legia Warsaw fined £63,000 after their fans displayed banner criticising UEFA during Europa League play-off - 04/09/2014

Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk

Legia Warsaw was fined 80,000 euros (£63,389) after their fans displayed a banner criticising UEFA.
A statement on the club's website revealed that UEFA's disciplinary panel imposed the sanction after a hearing on Thursday.
Legia fans protested the club's disputed exit from the Champions League at a Europa League play-off against Aktobe of Kazakhstan last week.

The banner, surrounded by lit flares, showed a large pig imposed on a UEFA badge and the slogan: 'Because Football Doesn't Matter, Money Does.'
Legia was eliminated from the Champions League third qualifying round after fielding a suspended player against Celtic during a 6-1 aggregate win.
UEFA awarded the Scottish side a 3-0 second-leg win that saw it advance. Legia is seeking compensation from UEFA at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Spartak Moscow - Crvena Zvezda - Friendly - 04/09/2014

Source : http://itar-tass.com

The official opening of the Otkritie-Arena in the north-west of the Russian capital is scheduled for Friday night, when Spartak FC will play its inaugural home match against Serbian FC Crvena Zvezda

A group of CSKA Moscow football club fans attempted on Thursday to set on fire a newly-built stadium for Spartak Moscow FC, Okritie-Arena, a day before the venue’s official opening in the Russian capital, a source in the Spartak FC security service said on Friday.
“Yesterday, just one day before the arena’s opening, a group of CSKA fans trespassed into the stadium’s territory with the aim to stage an act of vandalism and commit arson,” the source said. “Police immediately arrived at the scene and the hooligans fled. Their identities are being established at the moment.”

Austria : Nine hooligans in court over racist attack - 05/09/2014

Source : http://www.thelocal.at

Nine football hooligans will be in court next Tuesday to face charges relating to an apparently racist and violent attack on a Turkish club house in the Favoriten suburb of Vienna in October 2013.

The football fans armed themselves with a broken broom handle, beer bottles and wooden staves, and forced entry through the door of the Turkish-Kurdish Cultural Association.

Two men stood in their way, and were badly beaten, with one requiring hospitalization. Ironically, at the time the club house was being used for a meeting of the Comintern Communist club.

The events allegedly took place on the day of a match, in which right-wing fans belonging to the self-styled "Immortals" were on their way to the Generali Arena, for a Vienna derby against SK Rapid Wien.

The Immortals are well known for their racist and neo-Nazi slogans, chanting words such as "Adolph Hitler is my friend", "Zig Zag Gypsy Pack", and "Racist, Fascist, Hooligan."

The trial is expected to last three days, and is being conducted under conditions of heightened security. A supporters' demonstration is planned for the second day of the trial.

The men have been charged with trespass and assault. Some of the participants were also allegedly involved in the demonstration against the Vienna Academics' ball in early 2014, which also resulted in a trial for assault.

Steaua Bucharest and Ludogorets punished over fans' behaviour - 05/09/2014

Source : http://www.bbc.com

Romanian side Steaua Bucharest must play their next Europa League home tie in an empty stadium after Uefa punished them for their fans' racist behaviour.
Ludogorets Razgrad must close a section of their ground when they host Real Madrid in the Champions League on 1 October for the same offence.
Both incidents happened when Bulgarian champions Ludogorets hosted Steaua in a Champions League play-off.
Steaua's punishment will take place against Aalborg on 18 September.
A statement from European football's governing body confirmed that the Bucharest side were fined £40,000 for their fans' racist chants, £8,000 for their fans setting off fireworks and throwing missiles and another £3,600 because their side picked up five or more cards.
Ludogorets were fined £4,750 for having five or more players shown cards and £4,000 each for insufficient organisation and a pitch invasion.
Uefa said: "The fight against racism is a high priority for Uefa. The European governing body has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism and discrimination on the field and in the stands.
"All forms of racist behaviour are considered serious offences against the disciplinary regulations and are punished with the most severe sanctions.
"Following the entry into force of new disciplinary regulations in June 2013, the fight against racist conduct has been stepped up a level - resulting in stricter penalties to deter any such behaviour."

England : Fans accused police officers of being ‘murderers’ after Hillsborough disaster - 04/09/2014

Source : http://www.thestar.co.uk

Liverpool fans berated police officers as ‘murderers’ in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster, inquests into the deaths of 96 supports heard.

Stunned supporters leaving the ground turned on the officers, one fan who was at the game told jurors.

Roger Hewstone said he went to the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest in April 1989 with his teenage son.

The match was abandoned shortly after kick-off as 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death on the Leppings Lane terrace.

Mr Hewstone waited for his son outside the ground while fans emerged from the stadium.

He said: “They were in various states of distress. I have used the term walking wounded - a lot of them were holding limbs or walking awkwardly.

“Some were clearly stunned and some were attempting to berate police officers standing in a line. Some fans were going past shouting that they were murderers. It began to dawn on me then, the scale of what had happened, must be quite substantial.”

Mr Hewstone said he got to the ground at around 2.30pm for the 3pm kick-off and ended up in a crowd milling around the turnstiles.

When two gates were opened, the crowd ‘very rapidly’ vanished inside and he followed.

He claimed to have seen around a dozen fans go past him who ‘bulldozed’ their way onto the crowded terrace.

James McGauley, a local resident who lived close to Hillsborough stadium on the day of the disaster, said he watched Liverpool fans walk past his house.

He said they were ‘good mannered’ and in ‘good spirits’, waving to his young son in his arms.

“There was no hostility,” Mr McGauley added.

The inquest then heard of evidence given by Chief Inspector Robert Creaser, of South Yorkshire Police, which he gave to the Taylor Inquiry - the first ever probe into the disaster.

He was on duty that day and told the original inquiry: “I have never seen so many drunks at a football match before.”

The officer told that inquiry a number of fans were ‘fighting drunk’.

Wick Academy FC - Brora Rangers - North of Scotland Cup - 04/09/2014

Source : https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk

Football supporters attacked after match.

A gang of rival fans that attacked a football supporters bus is being hunted in the Highlands.

The coach was ambushed in a hail of rocks and other missiles as Brora Rangers fans made their way home under police escort after a cup semi-final match against Wick Academy FC.

It was only by good fortune that no-one was injured, although a large window was shattered.

The attackers had lain in wait, under cover of darkness on the outskirts of the town, on Tuesday evening after the North of Scotland Cup semi-final which the visitors won 2-1.

A previous derby clash in the North of Scotland Cup at Wick’s Harmsworth Park in March, which Brora also won, was also marred by violence between the fans.

Both clubs then worked together to impose year-long bans on four people, one Brora Rangers supporter and three fans of Wick Academy, from both teams’ grounds.

Now following this latest incident Wick Academy has threatened to ban the perpetrators for life, and has appealed for information in tracing them.

A Wick Academy statement yesterday deplored the attack.

It read: “The people who carried out this act are not fans, they simply use the game as an excuse to cause trouble. Police were escorting the bus as it left the town when the incident happened and hopefully the perpetrators can be caught.

“We are very glad that no one was injured by the shattered window, and we can’t understand the mind-set of people who do these sort of things.”

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information regarding an incident which happened between 10pm and 11pm on Tuesday, in which a bus had its window broken and damage caused to the bodywork, near Cemetery Road, Wick.

“A number of people were seen running from the area after objects were reported as having been thrown at the vehicle – call 101 if you have any information.”

Coach owner George Rapson, said the damage to the vehicle is being assessed today.

He said: “One pane of the double-glazed window has been shattered and will have to be replaced.

“But I am more concerned at the damage to the bodywork as it was rocks, not stones, that hit the bus and that will be expensive to repair.

“It is a German-made vehicle, which costs £300,000 new and, although the damage is cosmetic, it is frustrating that this has been caused by these nutcases.”

Brazilian police arrest 26 after football riot

Police arrested 26 people after a riot between rival football fans in Brazil's northeast on Saturday.

About 150 people were involved in the melee before the Brazilian Serie B match between ABC and Santa Cruz at Natal's Arena das Dunas World Cup stadium, Globo reported.

According to local police, iron bars, rocks and fireworks were used during the clashes.

Some fans were taken to Walfredo Gurgel hospital with injuries that are not to believed to be life threatening.

The incident was the latest in a series of violent episodes to hit Brazilian football.

Last month a Palmeiras fan died in intensive care after being struck on the head with an iron bar by a Corinthians supporter.

In February, three fans were shot outside Arena das Dunas and in December dozens were injured after a riot during the Brazilian top-flight match between Atletico Paranaense and Vasco da Gama in the southern city of Joinville.

England : Away fan denies assault at match - 12/09/2014

Source : http://www.bristolpost.co.uk

AMANSFIELD Town fan has denied assaulting someone when his side beat Bristol Rovers 1-0 and condemned them to non-league football. Several hundred Rovers fans invaded the Memorial Stadium pitch after the League Two game on May 3, which saw the club relegated out of the Football League.

With the help of horses and batons, police tried to contain the invaders on the pitch and keep them away from the Mansfield fans. They did the same in the club car park afterwards, where fans were struck with police batons and officers were also hit by fans.

Mark Bramwell, 43, of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, was charged with assaulting an unnamed person by beating, and possessing cocaine.

At Bristol Magistrates' Court on Thursday he admitted the class A drugs charge but denied the assault. He is due to be tried at the same court on February 23.

A total of 29 people have been arrested by Avon and Somerset police and charged with offences related to the disorder.

Liam Berryman, 20, of Romney Avenue, Lockleaze; Stephen Broad, 31, of Montpelier Court, Montpelier; Lee Thorne, 34, of Kenn Close, Weston-super-Mare; and Nicholas Wooldridge, 24, of Home- mead, Longwell Green, admitted invading the pitch and using threatening words or behaviour.

They have all been given football banning orders of at least five years.

Berryman, Broad and Wooldridge were also given six-week suspended jail sentences, with Berryman and Broad being ordered to carry out 200 hours' of unpaid work and Wooldridge given a curfew.

Thorne was sent immediately to prison for six weeks by District Judge Lynne Matthews, who deemed he was involved in a "tussle" on the pitch in which police were hit. However, Thorne has appealed the severity of the sentence and was due at Bristol Crown Court on Friday.

James Mallett, 25, of Moravian Road, Kingswood, and John Smart, 49, of King Street, Kingswood, have been found guilty of using threatening words and behaviour and will be sentenced on September 26. By Thursday afternoon, four other men had admitted offences.

Police make five arrests at Crewe-Vale derby

POLICE have made five arrests at today's derby match between Crewe Alex and Port Vale.

The three Vale fans and two Alex supporters are being questioned tonight after being arrested in connection with public order or drugs offences.

Cheshire Police say the match - won 2-1 by Crewe - passed without serious incident.

Chief Inspector Paul Carroll said: "The policing operation focused around Gresty Road, Nantwich Road and Crewe town centre.

"There were additional police resources supported by British Transport Police at Crewe Railway Station to ensure supporters from both teams were able to make their way safely to the ground after arriving in the town.

"Pubs were closed from 3pm until well after the match ended, when police commanders considered that any risk of disorder or violence had passed."

FOURTEEN Bristol Rovers fans have been branded "hooligans" by a judge for invading the pitch and triggering a confrontation after the team's relegation from the Football League.

District Judge Lynne Matthews told four fans they would be sent to prison, and gave six fans suspended jail terms at Bristol Magistrates' Court, after repeatedly emphasising how seriously she was taking the offences which she said saw fans act with a "gang mentality".

She told defendants their actions on May 5 had brought shame on the city as the scenes were broadcast on national TV, and would put families off going to live games in the future.

Rovers were relegated from the Football League for the first time in 94 years when they lost 1-0 to Mansfield Town on the last day of the League Two season.

Several hundred angry and frustrated fans then invaded the pitch. Some directed their anger at the club's board – but soon their attention was drawn to the away fans, who could be heard chanting about Rovers "going down".

Using horses and batons, Avon and Somerset police tried to contain the invaders on the pitch and keep them away from the Mansfield fans.

They did the same in the club car park and videos showed that, in both areas, fans were hit with batons but officers were also hit by fans.

Following the disorder, Avon and Somerset police worked with the football club and enlisted the help of the Bristol Post to identify people who were recorded misbehaving on police and television cameras.

Jamie Down, 33, of Durleigh Close, Headley Park; Oliver Downes, 23, of Sherwell Road, Brislington; Lee Baker, 22, of The Hollows, Coalpit Heath; and Thomas Brown, 21, of The Laurels, Mangotsfield, were each given eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months after admitting using threatening words or behaviour, and invading the pitch.

Down was given an eight-week 7pm-6am curfew, and the rest were ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work each.

Oliver Pagington, 20, of Church Road, Frampton Cotterell, was given 16 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months as well as 240 hours unpaid work for similar offences, after a video was played to the court of him swearing at police and stewards.

Ricky Wilson, 20, of Wordsworth Road, Horfield, was given 21 days in prison suspended for 12 months and 200 hours unpaid work.

George Sparrow, 23, of The Green, Stoke Gifford, was fined £340 for going onto the pitch and Ashley Jenkins, 20, of Shrivenham Road, Swindon, £100 and 200 hours work.

All were given banning orders, preventing them from watching any regulated matches for periods varying for between three and five years.

Christopher Eynon, 31, of New Street, Exmouth; Carl Lakey, 23, of Romney Avenue, Lockleaze; Joshua Parker, 21, of Widcome, Whitchurch; and Ashley Gurney, of Hayward Road, Barton Hill admitted being involved in the violence, and were told to expect custody when sentenced on October 3.

Tony Hook, 26, of Long Handstones, Cadbury Heath, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, using threatening behaviour and invading the pitch, and Lewis Blackwell, 23, of Sixth Avenue, Horfield, admitted using threatening behaviour and invading the pitch. They are also due to be sentenced on October 3.

A total of 29 fans have been charged over the incident, 28 Bristol Rovers fans and one Mansfield supporter.
