QPR to ban fan who threw coin at linesman during Arsenal match
• QPR appeal to fans to identify the culprit • Assistant linesman Stuart Burt was hit on back of his neck
Queens Park Rangers have vowed to ban for life whoever threw a coin at the assistant referee Stuart Burt during their Premier League win over Arsenal on Saturday, and on Monday appealed to fans to help them identify the culprit.
Rangers have been scouring CCTV footage in a bid to punish the spectator who struck Burt on the back of his neck with a coin moments before the end of Saturday's 2-1 victory at Loftus Road.
The Football Association are understood to be aware of the incident – which occurred after Burt awarded Arsenal a stoppage-time free-kick in front of the Ellerslie Road Stand – and are supporting efforts by QPR and the police to bring the perpetrator to justice.
A statement on the club's website read: "The club is aware of a coin-throwing incident that took place in the latter stages of Saturday's home fixture against Arsenal at Loftus Road.
"The club are now in the process of reviewing CCTV in an effort to identify those people responsible and will take the appropriate action once this process has been completed.
"QPR supporters are reminded that this is a very serious offence and anyone caught throwing an object onto the pitch – towards officials or players – will be issued with an immediate lifetime ban from Loftus Road."
The chief executive Philip Beard added: "Such behaviour is simply not acceptable at Loftus Road, or anywhere else for that matter. As a club, we will do everything possible to prevent such incidents happening again.
"The club appeals to any fans who saw the coin-throwing incident to come forward and assist our enquiries."
The referee Mike Dean, who reportedly included the incident in his match report, halted Saturday's game for two minutes and brought his assistant in from the touchline as supporters began pointing to where the coin had come from.
Several missiles were reportedly thrown at Burt but the Metropolitan police said on Monday they had yet to receive a complaint over the matter.
In February 2009, Aston Villa fan John Billington, who threw a 50p piece at an assistant referee, received a five-year football banning order and was fined £2,300.
Saturday's incident marred what was a surprise win for relegation-threatened QPR against an Arsenal side who had won their previous seven league games.
It was also a watershed moment for captain Joey Barton, who was hauled off – and booed off – during Rangers' previous home match against Liverpool. The summer signing Barton admitted in his programme notes before the Arsenal game that the criticism had affected him and his midfield partner Shaun Derry said: "You've got to take your hat off to Joey. He put his heart in his words before the game in his programme notes.
"He came out, explained his feelings and I thought the fans responded fantastically – not just to the team, but to Joey directly.
"You could sense that they all got behind Joey. Personally, I thought that was his best performance this season."
QPR are still in trouble and in the midst of a nightmare run-in, which continues with Easter Sunday's trip to Manchester United.
Derry added: "What I'd like us to do is take heart from this result, unlike when we beat Liverpool last time. We went into Sunderland and let ourselves down. We can't do that when we come up against Manchester United away from home."

Security fears cast doubt on Polish cup final - 29/03/2012
Source : http://www.sport.co.uk
The football association of Euro 2012 host Poland has been forced to hunt for a new location for its looming cup final, as security fears persist after the 2011 edition was marred by hooligans. Police in the Baltic port of Gdansk said they did not want the April 24 match to take place there, said association board member Witold Dawidowski. "They said it would have to involve too many officers," Dawidowski told Poland's PAP news agency. Gdansk is one of the four cities in Poland that in June will host the European championships, organised along with neighbouring Ukraine. Its brand-new arena opened last September, and there have been suggestions that officials fear potential damage during the cup final. The alternative venue in the southern city of Kielce - not a Euro 2012 location - also seems off the cards because city hall has refused to give a green light. The original plan had been to hold the cup final in the brand-new National Stadium in the capital Warsaw, which opened in January. But despite its successfully having hosted a friendly between Poland and Portugal on February 29, matches pitting Polish clubs have been put on ice because of the need to improve the security-communications system for higher-risk games. Police estimates put the hooligan hardcore at up to 5,000 in this nation of 38 million. Long a background concern here, the issue is solidly in the spotlight amid fears that it could mar Euro 2012. Stung by claims that they were failing to take the problem seriously, Polish authorities cracked down in the wake of last year's cup final in the northern city of Bydgoszcz. The May 3 match was marked by a pitch-invasion and a brawl with security forces, involving scores of fans of top-flight clubs Lech Poznan and winners Legia Warsaw. Current league leaders Legia could find themselves in this year's final too, provided they edge second-division Arka Gdynia in the semi-finals on April 4 and 11. The other semi-finalists are first-division clubs Ruch Chorzow and Wisla Krakow - the latter won the league last year - who meet on April 3 and 10.

France: Marseille fans banned from PSG trip again - 26/03/2012
Source : http://www.football.co.uk
Marseille's fans will once again be banned from travelling to Paris for their team's Ligue 1 match with arch rivals Paris Saint-Germain on April 8, the French government confirmed on Monday. "On April 8, 2012, from 00:00 hours to midnight, the movement, either individual or collective, by any means, of any person claiming to support Olympique de Marseille or behaving as such, is forbidden between the municipalities of the Bouches-du-Rhone department and the city of Paris," read a statement from the Interior Ministry. PSG's fans were banned from travelling to Marseille's Stade Velodrome for the reverse fixture in November, which saw the home side win 3-0. A similar decision was taken in October 2010, following a string of violent clashes between supporters attending games between the sides.

Four arrested in connection with football violence before Hibs game
The men, all from the Lothians, have been charged in connection with an incident before the Ayr v Hibs game on Sunday.
Before the Ayr v Hibs match in Ayr on Sunday a small number of fans were involved in violence and disorder.
At around 7am on Friday, officers from the Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland (FoCUS), raided homes in Musselburgh, East Lothian, Newtongrange, Midlothian and Edinburgh.
Four men, aged 22, 29, 37 and 40, were arrested and charged in connection with the incident. They are due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday.
Superintendent Donnie MacKinnon from Lothian and Borders said: "The vast majority of football fans attend matches to support their teams and savour the atmosphere of match day.
"However, a small minority choose to spoil the occasion by acting violently or chanting offensive songs. The purpose of today's operation is to bring those responsible to justice and send a clear message that crime will not be tolerated before, during or after a football match."
Superintendent David Brand from FoCUS said: "Football is our national game and while the vast majority of supporters are law abiding and passionate about their team it is recognised that a minority will occasionally behave in a violent or offensive manner which can tarnish the reputation of Scotland and Scottish football.
“It must be clear that violence and disorder cannot be tolerated and when people think that because they're not arrested on the day that they have got away with it - let me assure them that is not the case. If you are involved in this type of behaviour, you will be caught and brought to justice."

Football thugs banned from matches for 43 years over battle at Glasgow Central Station in front of horrified families
SEVENTEEN thugs have been banned from football matches for more than 43 years following a bloody train station battle fought in front of horrified families.
One man had part of his ear bitten off during the sickening riot at Glasgow’s Central railway station at 6pm on a Saturday.
The Record understands the mayhem was masterminded by Andy Frain, 49, of football thugs the Chelsea Headhunters, who was jailed for two years.
Hibs hooligan Andy Blance, 48, also helped co-ordinate the mass brawl.
Horrified women and children looked on as violence erupted at Central station after a Scottish Cup-tie between Ayr and Hibs last March. It was organised via text messages between yobs with links to Chelsea, Hibs and Rangers.
Detectives estimate up to 70 people were involved in the battle but only 30 were identified and arrested. Less than half successfully argued they were innocently caught up in the fighting.
British Transport Police said CCTV technology helped them track down the thugs and hailed the success of the probe, called Operation Skylark.
BTP officer Detective Inspector Grant Cathcart said: “Those involved and convicted of this pre-planned violence on a busy Saturday evening showed scant regard for members of the public.”
Blance, from Edinburgh, was sentenced to a 100-day tagging order. The thug was also handed a 300-hour community payback order and banned from football for two years.
Frain, from Essex, was jailed last year but it has not been possible, for legal reasons, to report full details of the riot until now.
Scott Lawson, 28, from Doncaster, was also jailed for two years for assault to severe injury after he bit off part of Hibs fan Ian Taylor’s ear.
The severed ear was later found on the concourse.
Others who were sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court, between March and yesterday, were:
Warren Miller, 29, and Stuart Younger, 30, both from Alloa – one-year jail terms and five-year football bans.
Michael Imrie, 24, and Gerald McCann, 46, both from Edinburgh – nine-month jail terms and two-year football bans.
Lee Duffy, 42, from Musselburgh, and John McGeever. 40, from Edinburgh – 300 hours of unpaid community work and two-year football bans.
Ryan Low, 25, from Edinburgh – tagged for 100 days, 300 hours of unpaid work and a two-year football ban.
Alexander Cockburn, 42, from Edinburgh – 300 hours of unpaid work and a two-year football ban.
Leon Walker, 28, from Edinburgh – 300 hours of unpaid work and a 30-month football ban.
James Clark, 27, from West Linton, Mark Connerton, 32, from Inverkeithing, and Paul Donoghue, 28, Keith Manson, 42, and Craig Nisbet, 41, all Edinburgh – 300 hours of unpaid work and two-year bans.
