Ajax Amsterdam - AZ Alkmaar - Cup - 21/12/2011

Ajax vs AZ abandoned

Season 11/12 - December - Page 4 Estebanfanattack2011122

Wednesday's action in the KNVB Beker was overshadowed by an ugly incident at the Amsterdam ArenA that forced the abandonment of the clash between Ajax and AZ Alkmaar.

With 37 minutes gone, and with Ajax leading 1-0 thanks to Gregory Van Der Wiel's goal, a supporter ran on to the field and went to attack the AZ goalkeeper Esteban.

The Costa Rican responded by kicking the fan to the ground, with stewards leading the intruder from the field. That was not the end of the controversy, though, with referee Bas Nijhuis sending off the 22-year-old, which prompted a furious reaction on the AZ bench.

AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek responded by calling his players from the field, with them subsequently leaving the ground and forcing Nijhuis to abandon the game.

"Our players did not feel safe on the field," AZ technical director Earnest Stewart said. "We took a shower and went home. We wanted to get inside to take a rest, but when it became clear that the players no longer wanted to continue. This does not belong in football and then we also get a red card. Now it's wait and see what the KNVB does."

Stewart was supported by AZ's general manager Toon Gerbrands, who said: "In my eyes, what Esteban did was a response action. I hope for leniency from the KNVB because it was frightening."

The KNVB were quick to issue a response on their official website. "The cup match Ajax-AZ stopped in the 36th minute," a statement said. "This occurred following an incident on the playing field. The case is submitted to the prosecutor of football. He will see if there is guilty and report his findings.

"There are three options: the game is played [completed], the game is replayed, or the respective position is regarded as the final score."

At the exit of the stadium, some players on the carpark, then later near a restaurant, incidents broke out between supporters and these players would have dangerously degenerated this evening.

England football fan who taunted Welshman before killing him with one punch outside Wembley Stadium jailed - 22/12/2011

Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2077173/England-football-fan-taunted-Welshman-killing-punch-outside-Wembley-Stadium-jailed.html

An England football supporter who killed an innocent Wales fan outside Wembley Stadium was jailed for three years at the Old Bailey yesterday.
Michael Dye, 44, died from head injuries inflicted by a single punch before a Euro 2012 qualifier between England and Wales on September 6.
Ian Mytton, 41, who pleaded guilty last month to the manslaughter of the father of three, wept as he was sentenced.
In a statement read out in court, the victim’s wife Nathalie, who wiped away tears throughout the sentencing, said: ‘The man who caused Mike’s death might as well have killed me that night. Part of me died alongside Mike.’
CCTV footage showed Mytton, of Redditch, Worcestershire, approaching Mr Dye on a concourse outside the stadium in North-West London before punching him once 25 minutes before the match kicked off and then walking away.
Mr Dye, from Ely in Cardiff, was taken to Northwick Park Hospital after suffering a fractured skull but died soon after his arrival.
At the time of his death, initial police reports wrongly suggested that the punch had been thrown as a result of a fight between Swansea City and Cardiff City fans.

Philip Bennetts QC, prosecuting, said one eyewitness described the punch as ‘sickening’.
Judge Anthony Morris said the attack was ‘unprovoked’ and the force of the blow was ‘considerable’.
He said Mr Dye was ‘poleaxed’ from the force of the punch and fell backwards without trying to stop himself, hitting his head on the ground and suffering ‘massive brain damage’.
Mytton, an Aston Villa fan, had drunk five pints of lager and was holding a can of Strongbow as he and five friends approached Mr Dye and his friend Anthony Riella, who had also been drinking.
Earlier, Mr Bennetts described Mytton and his friends shouting abuse at Mr Riella and Mr Dye, a prominent Cardiff City supporter who used to help arrange transport for away games.
Mr Riella said in a witness statement that he and Mr Dye looked at the shouting group and laughed. Soon after, Mytton and a group of five others approached the pair. Mr Riella said Mr Dye told the group to ‘leave it out’, but Mytton then punched him, knocking him to the ground.
Mytton handed himself in to police. Simon Stirling, defending, said: ‘His remorse for what he did and the suffering he caused them (the Dye family) is real, genuine and heartfelt.’
He said Mytton had no previous convictions, was never involved in football violence before and had originally planned to take his daughter to the match, before realising it was a school night.

Greek police arrest 18 after fan trouble

Police in northern Greece arrested 18 people on Tuesday night after fans disrupted a Greek Cup match by running onto the field wearing crash helmets and wielding wooden bats.

The suspects clashed with police in the northern town of Katerini during a cup game between local club Pontos FC and Xanthi.

Police say the suspects were arrested after fleeing the stadium in three cars.

Police say they seized bats, flares, crash helmets, mace sprays and a knife.

Xanthi won the match 2-0.

A day earlier, on December 20 the match between third-division Pontioi Katerinis and the Super League's Xanthi (0-2) was stopped for a few minutes just before full-time after around 30 Panathinaikos fans stormed the pitch to attack referee Dimitris Kalopoulos.

Kalopoulos had been the official who refereed the controversial derby between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos (2-1) last year, and had been banned since then. He was also linked to last summer’s match-fixing scandal. Kalopoulos was suddenly reinstated last month and the December 20 match was the first he had officiated since his the end of his ban.

Police arrested 18 of the fans who, according to reports, were passing through Katerini on their way home from the match between Agrotikos Asteras and Panathinaikos (0-1) that had taken place earlier in the day in Thessaloniki.

Barnsley fan cautioned over homophobic Brighton chants - 20/12/2011

Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-16266787

A Barnsley football fan has been cautioned for shouting homophobic abuse at Brighton supporters leaving a match at the Amex stadium.

Sussex Police said officers initially "gave strong words of advice" to the 18-year-old after he shouted anti-gay chants at Falmer station on 6 November.

Officers than discovered it was not an isolated incident and he was arrested at home in Bromley, south-east London.

He was cautioned for using threatening words or behaviour on Monday.

Homophobic chanting

Football liaison officer Pc Darren Balkham said the fan had been arrested after officers saw comments on a fans forum from other supporters.

He added: "The Amex has quickly become established as a stadium that welcomes everyone, regardless of their individual personalities or preferences, and we are determined that anyone guilty of homophobic abuse will be dealt with.

"Last month, a Southampton supporter was convicted of shouting anti-gay abuse during a match against Brighton and has been banned from football for three years.

"This latest caution, which came about as result of chat on a website fans' forum, demonstrates that we are taking this matter seriously and will take action."

In October, Brighton and Hove Albion fans called for the FA to do more to address homophobic chanting in football grounds.

John Hewitt, chairman of the supporters club, said the problem was especially bad at away games.

Homophobic and racist chants are outlawed by ground regulations.

Funke Awoderu, the FA's equality manager, said at the time that everyone needed to take responsibility for stopping abuse.

Hooligans fail to demonstrate Christmas spirit

Violence struck the Greek Cup this week as one game was abandoned after a chair hit an assistant referee and another was stopped for a few minutes after fans of a team not involved in the game invaded the pitch and attacked the referee.

The round-of-32 match between Ethnikos Asteras and PAOK was halted on December 21 as fans of the Kaisariani club hurled a chair at the assistant referee in the 13th minute, forcing the referee to stop the match for good.

As a result, PAOK will be awarded the game (3-0) and advance to the last 16, while Ethnikos Asteras will have up to three points deducted from the second-division table and be made to play one or two home games behind closed doors in the league.

A day earlier, on December 20 the match between third-division Pontioi Katerinis and the Super League's Xanthi (0-2) was stopped for a few minutes just before full-time after around 30 Panathinaikos fans stormed the pitch to attack referee Dimitris Kalopoulos.

Northern Ireland: Football hooligans face a 10-year ban - 21/12/2011

Source : http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/northern-ireland/football-hooligans-face-a-10year-ban-16093727.html

Football hooligans will be banned for up to 10 years from matches in Northern Ireland under new powers to be given to judges.

From January 1, the courts will be able to order someone not to attend regulated matches if it it is believed they may cause violence or disorder.

Bans available to the courts will range from three to 10 years. Justice minister David Ford said the new criminal justice powers “will make Northern Ireland’s football grounds safer”.

England: Record low football hooligans - 22/12/2011

Source: http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/272250/record-low-football-hooligans

Arrests for football-related disorder in England and Wales hit a record low last season, official figures showed Friday, raising hopes the "English disease" of hooliganism was now firmly in the past.

Despite being credited as the home of "the beautiful game", English football suffered for years from violence between rival fans.

But in the 2010/2011 season, arrests were down nine percent to 3,089, the lowest figure since records began 27 years ago, according to statistics released by Britain's interior ministry.

There was an average of just one arrest per match, with no arrests at 70 percent of games, according to the figures for detentions of English and Welsh fans at international and domestic matches.

"Football policing is a real British success story," said crime prevention minister Oliver Eden in a statement.

"Where hooliganism was once described as 'the English disease', we now set an example for others to follow.

"This year's record low arrest figures follow on from last year's successful World Cup in South Africa, where nobody from this country was arrested."

He urged England fans to continue their good behaviour at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, where some experts fear there will be clashes between eastern European fans.

Chelsea clash hooligans sentenced - 22/12/2011

Two football hooligans have been given suspended jail sentences for affray after a street fight near Chelsea Football Club last year.

It brings to 92 the number of men now convicted after one of the worst football-related outbreaks of violence London has seen.

Hundreds of rival Chelsea and Cardiff supporters fought pitched battles along the Kings Road as innocent bystanders ran for safety.

Manchester United fans top Premier League of shame for match-day arrests - 23/12/2011

Source: http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1468882_manchester-united-fans-top-premier-league-of-shame-for-match-day-arrests

Manchester United have finished top of a 'league of shame' for match-day arrests.

The champions had more fans held by police than any other team in the Premier League during last season – almost twice as many as second-placed Sunderland.

The figures, released by the Home Office show that the number of United supporters arrested rocketed from 165 in the 2009-10 season to 276 last year.

Some 117 fans were held at home games and 159 at away matches.

The vast majority of the arrests were for alcohol offences (127), followed by violent disorder (63), ticket touting (26), pitch invasions (20), public disorder (15) and possessing offensive weapons (11).

City joined United in the top four of the list - with 108 arrests last season.

Bolton had 52 fans arrested and Wigan 27.

Outside the top flight, Rochdale had seven arrests, Stockport five and Bury just one.

United said the figures should be seen in context of the fact Old Trafford had a bigger capacity than any other ground.

A club spokesman said: "These figures should be presented as a percentage of the stadium’s crowd, rather than as individual figures."

Mark Longden, from the independent Manchester United supporters association blamed the high number of arrests on 'over-zealous' policing at football grounds.

He said: "We're one of the very few teams that sells out their ticket allocation wherever we go.

"We all have our bad eggs but I think most sections of supporters are the same. The main issue is over-zealous policing.

"The way supporters are policed in general is conducive to getting arrested. The police release these figures every year which are designed to show football supporters to be hooligans carrying bricks and knives.

"It's in their interests to talk up the aggro."

Manchester City declined to comment.

The figures also showed that 23 fans were arrested in the Premier League for racist or indecent chanting – including two United fans.

Morocco: CODM - MAS - 26/12/2011

Source : http://www.bladi.net/forum/303098-match-codm-mas-26-12-arrete/

The game which opposed, in Meknès, local CODM to MAS was marred by troubles and the referee stopped the game for security reasons.

In fact, everything started during 2nd half, when CODM scored by Camara...then, it was a nightmare both the 22 players.
Troublemakers started to threw missiles, like rocks, in the pitch and the MAS coach, Taoussi, was slightly wounded, but a player was also seriously wounded.
Berrabeh from MAS had his head bleeding.

So, for security reasons the game was abandoned.

Celtic Glasgow - Glasgow Rangers - 28/12/2011

Source : http://news.stv.tv/scotland/west-central/291677-twelve-fans-arrested-during-old-firm-derby/

Twelve football fans arrested during Old Firm derby

None of the arrests made during the game at Celtic Park were 'sectarian related', according to police.

Twelve football fans were arrested during the latest Old Firm derby.

Strathclyde Police said that none of the arrests were for "sectarian related" incidents during the match at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.

There was a large police presence at the game and surrounding the ground ahead of the 7.45pm kick off.

Earlier Strathclyde Police praised the "positive influence" of both sets of fans in reducing "sectarian singing" at games.

Celtic won against Rangers to go two points clear at the top of the SPL table as thousands turned out at Celtic Park to watch the second derby of the season.

Football-related crime has been highlighted during recent Old Firm games since the so-called Scottish Cup replay "shame game" in May where 34 arrests were made during the game at Celtic Park.

Wednesday nights match came after the Scottish Government had introduced its controversial Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Bill, which was met with opposition in parliament and from supporters’ organisations.

Sunderland fans banned for booze, violence and swearing - 29/12/2011

DOZENS of Sunderland AFC fans have been shown the red card after misbehaving at matches.

New figures reveal 53 Black Cats supporters are banned from attending games after being hit with a football banning order.

Twenty five of the bans for bad behaviour were given in the last year.

According to the Home Office figures, Cardiff City tops the table of shame with 143 fans banned from games.

In the 12 months up to November, a total of 126 Sunderland fans were arrested – the third highest arrests out of clubs across England and Wales.

Of those, 77 were made at home games with the remaining 49 at away matches.

A total of 60 were for booze-related offences, 32 for public disorder, 15 for pitch invasions, six for violent disorder and six for criminal damage.

A further three arrests were made for breaching a banning order, three for missile throwing and one for carrying a weapon.

The arrest figures are up on last year, when 112 fans were arrested.

Manchester United topped the table with 276 arrests.

Chief Supt Dave Pryer, head of Northumbria Police’s Operations Command, said: “People in the North East are passionate about football and turn out in their thousands to support Sunderland every week.

“The vast majority of fans are well behaved and act responsibly both before, during and after matches.

“However, there are a small minority of people for whom football is an opportunity for criminal behaviour.

“These are the ones we target to prevent them from spoiling the enjoyment of others.

“Northumbria Police works to proactively identify people involved in this type of behaviour. Where it is proportionate we use relevant legislation to prevent them from attending games.

“This allows the well-meaning vast majority of genuine football fans to attend matches without fear of disorder.

“As a force we successfully use banning orders as they mean we can put tight restrictions on the movements of known risk supporters, preventing them from attending fixtures.”

Black Cat bosses today said they operate a zero-tolerance approach to bad behaviour and operate a strict social behaviour policy on match days.

Paul Weir, the club’s safety and security manager, said: “The safety and comfort of our supporters is always our utmost priority and the club’s stance on this is quite clear.

“We always aim to provide a positive experience for everyone who visits the Stadium of Light on a match day and by continuing to work proactively with supporters groups and Northumbria Police we are confident that are achieving that aim.”

Sunderland AFC chief executive Margaret Byrne added: “The safety of our supporters is not something we are willing to compromise on and we will continue to take a firm stance to ensure we provide a friendly, welcoming and above all safe environment for all fans.”

Ajax-AZ cup tie to be played again, without supporters - 28/12/2011

Source : http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2011/12/ajaxaz_cup_tie_to_be_played_ag.php

The cup match between Ajax of Amsterdam and Alkmaar's AZ, disrupted when an Ajax fan tried to attack AZ's keeper, is to be played again without supporters on January 19, the football association said on Wednesday.
The match was abandoned in the 37th minute with Ajax 1-0 ahead after the fan ran across the pitch and hurled himself at the keeper.

The fan had been banned from the stadium for earlier offences and Ajax faces a €10,000 fine for not doing enough to prevent the incident occurring.

Ajax-Alkmaar match to be replayed in full

AMSTERDAM – The cup match between Ajax and AZ Alkmaar that was halted after a fan ran on to the pitch and attacked AZ goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado will be replayed in full next month behind closed doors, the Dutch football association announced Wednesday.
The Dec. 21 match at the Amsterdam Arena was abandoned in the 36th minute with AZ trailing 1-0 after Alvarado was sent off for kicking the 19-year-old fan who had launched a karate-style kick at him from behind.
The Dutch FA said in a statement it “would be unreasonable” to resume the match in the 37th minute because AZ would have to play with 10 men due to the Costa Rica goalkeeper’s red card, even though it was later rescinded. The match will be played without fans from either side, “because the association does not want to take any risks.”
Police arrested 25 fans amid rioting outside the stadium after the match was called off last week.
The rematch will be played Jan. 19. The Dutch FA also fined Ajax €10,000 ($13,000) for failing to prevent the fan — who was supposed to be serving a 3-year ban from attending matches at the Arena — from invading the pitch. Ajax announced shortly after the match it would never again sell the man a club card or season ticket and later tweeted that it had slapped him with a 30-year stadium ban.
Football authorities also gave Ajax a suspended sentence of playing one home match without fans. That sanction will only be applied if the club commits another offense in the next two years. Ajax had until Jan. 2 to appeal, but Financial Director Jeroen Slop said the club would accept what he called tough sanctions “under protest” because of the limited legal avenues to overturn the punishment.
The fan whose pitch invasion sparked the disciplinary action has been in police custody since he was arrested after stewards led him off the ground. Dutch media reported that his family went into hiding after receiving telephone threats.

A cross from Walid Soliman was deflected into the net by Mahalla defender Amr Ramadan, only for the ball to go through the net as it was unclear to referee Yasser Abdul-Raouf.

But Abdul-Raouf’s assistant did not hesitate to give a goal as the decision was met by fury from the home fans, with hundreds of teenagers invading the pitch with some of them holding lighted canisters.

Referee Abdul-Raouf eventually rushed into the dressing room, shortly after Ahli players and staff had withdrawn.

Television replays confirmed that the goal is valid as defender Ramadan was seen holding his head right after scoring past his own keeper.

Al Ahly won automatically 2-0

England: Major Chelsea FC football hooligan investigation ends - 22/12/2011

Source : fulhamchronicle.co.uk

A MAJOR investigation into football hooligans who fought running battles on the streets of Fulham has come to an end.

The final three thugs charged with affray and violent disorder faced justice at Isleworth Crown Court on December 22.

It ended a widespread investigation which has seen 93 people convicted and sentences totalling 75 years in prison and 460 years of football banning orders handed down.

Detective superintendent William Lyle, of Hammersmith and Fulham police and who led the investigation, said: “This has been a tireless and vast investigation to identify and prosecute those who turned our nation's beautiful game into an ugly and shocking event.”

Police launched Operation Ternhill in February 2010 after violence erupted on the Fulham streets between Chelsea and Cardiff City supporters.

The two teams were playing each other in the FA Cup third round when trouble flared up before the midday kick-off with supporters clashing in Fulham Road with smoke bombs set off and fights breaking out.

An organised fight broke out after the game at the Holmead Road junction of Fulham Road with members of the public caught up in the horrific fighting.

Officers formed a line to separate the two sets of fans but some broke off down an alleyway and around 200 clashed on the King's Road where they used bricks and traffic cones as missiles.

Police deployed a helicopter to film the violence and one officer needed surgery after being hit by a brick and, during the 18-month investigation, police issued hundreds of CCTV images to help them track down the suspects.

“A large number of these men are career football hooligans who have been involved in serious acts of violence over a number of years. On the flip-side, others involved were first-time offenders.

“Whilst the police identified and arrested a large number of the convicted, it is the genuine fans and the community we would like to thank for coming forward and identifying people in our media appeals.”

A spokesman for Chelsea FC said: “We fully supported the police with these prosecutions. Those convicted who are either members or season-ticket holders will be banned indefinitely from Stamford Bridge.

“These are a minority and do not represent the thousands of Chelsea supporters who travel throughout England and Europe without resorting to this type of criminal behaviour.”

Scotland: Motherwell fans' sickening Nazi salutes at event to launch book on 'SS' hooligans - 22/12/2012

Source : www.dailyrecord.co.uk

GRINNING fans did Nazi salutes outside an SPL ground to mark the launch of a book glorifying football hooligans.

The notorious Motherwell Saturday Service - who call themselves the “SS” - organised the stunt on the steps at Fir Park.

Last night, club bosses were examining the sick images and discussing whether to launch an investigation.

The SS initially hired a room at Fir Park for the launch of the book Dressers.

But club bosses got wind of it and cancelled the bash.

The ragtag bunch still managed to hold the event at the independent Fir Park Social Club, opposite Motherwell FC’s ground.

Around 140 of the group posed for photos on the steps outside the Phil O’Donnell stand, with some doing “sieg heil” salutes.

Motherwell FC stressed that the event took part in the social club, which has no links to the football club.

A spokesman said: “We are trying to be Scotland’s premier family andcommunity club and we are trying to portray a message that this the club is all welcoming to everybody – families and children.

“We condemn football violence in the highest possible way.”

The club do not know if the people at the event were regular fans.

The spokesman added: “We don’t know any of these people. Because it’s outside the ground, it makes itdifficult for us to do anything.

“People can walk up and do anything.”

The spokesman added that the event was booked simply as a “book launch”.

He said: “The club found out what the book involved was and cancelled the booking and told them to seek alternative premises.

“That was in the middleof the week leading up to the event.”

The Motherwell SS were named in tribute to Hitler’s ruthless Schutzstaffel squad, who carried out some of the worst atrocities of World War II.

SS is also the initials of the name given for the book’s author, Stanley Smith.

Promotional blurb for the book brazenly tells how it “chronicles the rise of one of Scotland’s original football casual groups, pioneering the fashion that was to become central to the Saturday afternoon fracas in town centres and at football grounds all over Scotland”.

Fir Park Social Club did not respond to repeated requests to comment.
