Dunfermline - Glasgow Rangers - 24/09/2011

Source : local press

"Three men will appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Monday (26th September 2011) having been arrested during the Dunfermline v Rangers game at East End Park on today. All three men have been charged with alleged breaches of the peace, aggravated by religious prejudice.

The men aged 19,20 and 31 were arrested as part of an ongoing operation by Fife Constabulary to tackle football related hate crime. All three men were arrested within the East Stand of the stadium occupied by Rangers supporters. The intelligence led deployment of plain clothed officers within the ground also led to the arrest of a 20 year old man in relation to a racially motivated breach of the peace at last weeks Dunfermline v Hibs game.

Football liaison officer, Sergeant Andy Smith, said: " Fife Constabulary is committed to delivering a clear message to those who continue to shout hate-filled comments during football matches that we will pursue you until this type of behavior stops. These arrests should act as a further warning to supporters attending East End Park who are intent on conducting themselves in a racially or religiously prejudiced manner."

Bulgaria: Bulgarian Football Hooligans Storm Homes of Notorious Roma Boss - 24/09/2011

Source : http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=132370

Football hooligans from Bulgaria's Plovdiv have flocked to the village of Katunitsa, storming and setting on fire properties of notorious Roma boss Kiril Rashkov, aka Tsar Kiro, the police have confirmed.

The football hooligans staged the assault late Saturday night, amidst escalating ethnic tensions, after a 19-old ethnic Bulgarian boy was run over by ethnic Roma Friday night.

Some 200 soccer hooligans from the fan clubs of Lokomotiv Plovdiv FC and Botev Plovdiv FC took part in attack on three homes owned by the clan of Roma boss Kiril Rashkov in the village of Katunitsa, while the locals shied away from partaking in the violence, the bTV correspondents reported.

The hooligans' outburst started at about 8 pm Saturday night, and was over by 10 pm, as one of Tsar Kiro's homes was essentially destroyed.

The hundreds of police and gendarmerie officers brought to Katunitsa adopted a hands-off policy and abstained from tackling the arsonists.

According to Kalin Georgiev, Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry, who is on the spot, the policy was adopted in order to avoid a further escalation of tensions, and potential casualties if the police clashed with the hooligans.

The major job of the gendarmerie instead has been to secure the spots for the fire fighters who arrived shortly to tackle the numerous fires set by the hooligans.

Most of the attackers are wearing masks and wigs. Police and gendarmerie officers from Plovdiv, Smolyan, Stara Zagora, and Pazardzhik have occupied the entire village of Katunitsa for the night.

Tensions could escalate further on Sunday when the funeral of the murdered 19-year-old Bulgarian boy will take place. The police are still searching for the 55-year-old Roma driver who is reported to have killed him.

The members of the Rashkov clan have been evacuated by the police away from the village of Katunitsa. Interior Secretary Georgiev has refused to reveal their location for safety reasons.

Peru: Universitario - Alianza Lima - 25/09/2011

Source : Reuters

Fan dies in fall from VIP box at Peru derby

A 23-year-old fan died after falling 30 metres from a executive box at the end of a Peruvian derby marred by crowd trouble, the Alianza Lima club said Sunday.
Alianza demanded that the stadium of arch-rivals Universitario be closed following the incident which they said happened when fans of the home club burst into VIP boxes and attacked the occupants at the end of Saturday's match.
"I request the veto of Universitario's Monumental stadium as there is no guarantee of safety, what happened to this Alianza fan is deplorable," Alianza president Guillermo Alarcon told the club's website (www.alianzalima.com)
"We were also attacked, we had difficulty getting out, our buses had to wait for one hour," he added.
"We are not playing at the Monumental stadium again, it's unacceptable that there are acts of violence at this stadium."
Witnesses told Peruvian television that Universitario fans burst into the boxes, smashing bottles of beer and whisky, attacking the occupants and throwing paint over them.
They said there was no police presence in that part of the stadium.
The Monumental, sometimes used for international matches, has several tiers of executive boxes with a sheer drop to the ordinary seats below.
There was also trouble before Saturday's game when television pictures showed a faction of Alianza Lima supporters known as the Comando Sur fighting amongst themselves.
Universitario won the match 2-1.

Brazil: Atlético Paranaense - Fluminense - 24/09/2011

Source : BBC Sport

Armed police quell Brazilian fans' fury after late penalty

Police have used rifles to ward off furious supporters after a Brazilian championship match ended in chaos.

The trouble began when the referee awarded a controversial stoppage-time penalty, that Fluminense converted, to earn a 1-1 draw at Atletico Paranaense.

Dozens of Atletico fans gathered around the tunnel at the Arena da Baixada, one of the 12 venues that will be used at the 2014 World Cup, preventing the referee and his fellow officials from leaving the pitch for five minutes.

A police official on the pitch pointed a rifle towards the fans and the Brazilian media reported that rubber bullets were fired.

Police eventually went into the stands to disperse the crowd and the officials were escorted under the protection of officers wieding riot shields.

Atletico, who missed a first-half penalty, went ahead after the break through Paulo Baier's goal.

But Fluminense were awarded a spot-kick after Lanzini went down in the penalty box - television replays suggested he dived - and former Lyon striker Fred scored.

There was also trouble at Cruzeiro where around 250 fans surrounded players' cars to protest against recent results.

Season 11/12 - September - Page 4 78276350
A total of nine fans of Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano have been arrested on Saturday following clashes between groups of "radical" for both teams before and after the football game pitting teams from Madrid in the Bernabeu, according reported by the Police Headquarters in Madrid.

Also, the agents of Police Intervention Unit (UIP) during the night involved a total of eight sticks, four flares, two fireworks and various weapons carried by the fans.

Those arrested, who belonged to "radical rocks" of both clubs, as noted by the police, got into several fights before and after the event around the Bernabeu.

While the agents of the UIP set up an appropriate police presence in the vicinity of the stadium to ensure security during the celebration of the event, the officers were alerted to the 17.15 hours of a fight between fans of both teams on the street Marceliano Santamaría.

In the scene looked at how the radical groups of the two hobbies were fighting among themselves, throwing hard objects such as bottles, stones and furniture. On arrival of the agents, all participants in the fight ran onto Paseo de la Habana, where the bickering continued.

In place of the fight UIP agents found that several militants had turned a glass container to throw the bottles at police vans and chairs, bins and road signs that had started.

At that time, the agents proceeded to the arrest of three youths, two local fans and a visitor, all masked to hide his face.

After the meeting, about 23 hours, the IPU agents protecting some 200 fans of Rayo as it passes through the Paseo de la Castellana in the direction of Plaza de Castilla where, at number 119, a group of Real Madrid fans began throwing stones, flares and bottles on the group bagged. Police arrested six of the attackers.

As stated by the Chief, the detainees belong to "radical groups" of the two hobbies, and have already been made available to the judicial authorities on suspicion of a crime of illegal possession of weapons, assault on a law enforcement officer and public disorder.

During the deployment of police to ensure the safety of the football game, the IPU identified 292 people, processed 43 penalty minutes and appeared eight sticks, four flares, two pyrotechnic devices and several weapons.

The intervention was carried out by the Police Intervention Unit and the Group 30 of the Provincial Information Brigade belonging to the Police Headquarters in Madrid.

UK: Fans jailed over play-off trouble - 27/09/2011

Source : Dunstabletoday.co.uk

SIX people have been jailed and given football banning orders for their part in shameful scenes after Luton’s play-off final defeat to York last May.

York City players had to be shepherded off the pitch by police as missiles were hurled at them by Hatters fans after the Town went down 1-0.

Outside the ground, the trouble continued, with a mob taking brooms, mops, pans and plants from outside a DIY store in Bury Park and throwing them at police.

Following the scenes, CCTV footage was released by the police to the media in the effort to track down the offenders, which led to four convictions.

Six men who pleaded guilty in January were handed sentences at Luton Crown Court on Friday.

Ryan Downey, 24, of Julius Gardens, Luton, was jailed for six months and banned from matches for six years.

Ashley McChesney, 20, of Buckfield Avenue, Dunstable, was sentenced to nine months in a young offenders institute plus a further two months for breach of a previous order, and given a six year banning order.

Stewart Farquharson, 45, of Grove Road, Luton, was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment and banned for six years.

Kieran Gavigan, 27, of Churchill Road, Leighton Buzzard, who was identified through the CCTV appeal, was jailed for seven months and banned from matches for six years.

Ben Butler, 20, of St Andrew’s Close, Flitwick, was given a 19 month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work and banned from matches for five years.

Jordan Shepherd, 27, of Green Farm Lane, Barrow, Suffolk, also identified through the CCTV, was given a five month sentence suspended for 18 months, ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work and banned for five years.

Jamie Sales, 26, of Russet Way, Dunstable, was found guilty after a trial in August and on Friday was jailed for 12 months and banned from matches for six years. Michael Howe, 44, of Dellfield, St Albans, was also found guilty after trial and was jailed for 12 months and given a six-year ban.

A 17-year-old from Luton, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was sentenced to a 10-month referral order, costs and a three year ban after pleading guilty to affray last October

Another 17-year-old from Luton was made the subject of a supervision requirement and youth rehabilitation order after pleading guilty to affray, and was ordered to pay costs and carry out unpaid work together. He was also banned from games for three years.

Three other men are due to be sentenced on Wednesday.

Bedfordshire Police said a total of 37 people were arrested, with eight receiving cautions for affray and 15 teenagers receiving final warnings.

Superintendent David Boyle, based at Luton Police Station, said: “The game of football is a sport that families should be able to enjoy in safety.

“I hope the sentencing results show that we will use all methods available to them to bring anyone who breaks the law to justice.”

Morocco: Mouloudia - Mohammedia club Chebab - 25/09/2011

Source : Associated Press

7 dead in riot following football match in Morocco

Seven people were killed in a riot following a football match in Morocco's disputed Western Sahara region, the state news agency reported Tuesday.

Three people died after being run over by four-wheel drive vehicles and two of the others killed were policemen, the report stated, quoting local officials.

The riot in the town of Dakhla began after Mohammedia club Chebab, from just north of Casablanca, beat the local Mouloudia club 3-0.

Rival fans began throwing stones at each other and then "criminals" took advantage of the situation to attack people with knives and clubs, a statement from the Oued-Eddahab-Lagouira province said.

Initial reports put the toll from the incident at two dead and 27 wounded. Eight vehicles and local businesses were also burned in the rioting. The incident is under investigation.

Football fan arrests in Edinburgh and Musselburgh raids - 28/09/2011

Source : BBC NEWS

Eleven football fans have been arrested during dawn raids in Edinburgh and the Lothians, police have confirmed.

Police officers went to 13 homes in Edinburgh and Musselburgh after securing warrants for disorder at the Hibs V Sunderland match on 6 August.

The men have been charged with breach of the peace aggravated by religious prejudice.

It follows eight arrests for breach of the peace and assault on the day of the Edinburgh match.

Lothian and Borders Police were working with the Football Focus Unit.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said the raids had been "very successful".

Offensive chanting
Supt Donnie MacKinnon said: "This force will continue to fully investigate complaints regarding any anti-social and disorder, and particularly any hate crime whether associated to a sporting event or not.

"True fans attend fixtures to show support for the team they follow.

"There is a small minority who attend for other reasons.

"We will not let them spoil the enjoyment of the genuine fans. Equally we will not let them disrupt other members of the public who may be going about their business elsewhere in the city on a day of a match."

The police operation comes just four days before Hearts play host to Celtic at Tynecastle.

Supt MacKinnon added: "We are reminding both sets of fans that unacceptable conduct will not be tolerated and the police and the two clubs will take seriously any racist, sectarian or offensive chanting before, during, or after the game."

Arrests after Brighton and Crystal Palace fans clash

Nearly 30 people have been arrested after clashes between rival football supporters.

The arrests took place during and after the match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

Police said the arrests were mainly for public order offences or assault.

Twelve people were arrested in the new Amex stadium and other fans were detained after disturbances at Lewes, Falmer and Brighton railway stations.

About 100 fans were stopped and searched for weapons at the start of the match as a "precautionary tactic".

Sussex Police made a total of 27 arrests.

A spokeswoman said 19 arrests were connected to the football match while a further nine were being investigated for links.

British Transport Police also arrested a 41-year-old Brighton fan from Seaford on suspicion of actual bodily harm.

Heavy police presence

The policing operation saw mounted officers in Queens Road and West Street. Dog units were also deployed to Brighton railway station.

The first arrest came at about 17:30 BST when police reported a 23-year-old Brighton man had been arrested on suspicion of breaching a banning order.

Disturbances were reported at Lewes and Brighton railway stations at about 19:30, when four people were arrested.

At 22:30, more disturbances were reported at Falmer railway station.

An hour later, police said the stadium was quiet but a heavy police presence remained at Brighton railway station.

Trouble broke out after Rijad Demic scored for Velez in extra time. Zrinjski fans broke through a fence and headed towards the Velez players, who fled.
Zrinjski and Velez represent opposite sides in the ethnically-divided town of Mostar, which is split into Croat and Muslim-run sectors.
On Saturday, a Premier League match between Borac and Zeljeznicar was halted after violence by Borac fans, who invaded the pitch and threw stones and torches at rival supporters.
After that incident, the disciplinary committee of Bosnia's football federation (NFSBiH) awarded victory to Zeljeznicar, who had scored before the trouble, fined Borac 10,000 Bosnian marka (5,000 euro) and banned spectators from their next three games.

Athletic fan attacked by PSG supporters in hospital with head trauma

Basque police arrested thirteen people on Thursday when fans of visiting team Paris Saint Germain set upon local Athletic supporters, leaving one man in a critical condition in hospital.

Rioting broke out on the streets of Bilbao on Thursday night, prior to a UEFA cup match due to kick off between local team Athletic Bilbao and Paris Saint Germain. One Athletic fan was left with serious head trauma and remains in intensive care.
Three Basque police officers and a member of the French gendarmerie were also injured during the fracas. One Basque officer was forced to fire warning shots into the air.
According to the Basque Home Office, ten PSG fans were arrested prior to the start of the match charged with causing civil unrest. All ten remain in police custody.
One of the Athletic fans attacked prior to Thursday's match against Paris Saint Germain suffered head trauma, subarachnoid hemorrhage and a double fracture to his jaw, according to medical reports issued by the hospital in Basurto where he is being treated.
He is reported to be conscious and neurologically stable, though complaining of a "severe" headache. He will remain in the resuscitation unit for close monitoring, though he will most likely be moved to a different unit for further treatment following a 48-hour period.
Initial rioting broke out just after 6.30pm on Thursday evening when a number of Paris Saint Germain supporters entered an area popular with football fans. They began throwing chairs from a number of the bars out into the street, breaking shop windows and threatening various passers-by.
Further arrests were carried out at around midnight on Friday morning when a number of Athletic fans began to throw objects at PSG supporters and subsequently at the police officers who attended the scene.
The match between Athletic and Paris Saint-Germain had been classed as "high risk" by UEFA Anti-Violence Commission. Similar incidents broke out in the Biscay capital in 2009-2010 when Athletic fans clashed with Austria de Viena supporters and, later the same season, with those of Belgian team Anderlecht.

UK: Father and sons jailed over football violence - 30/09/2011

Source : Spenboroughguardian.co.uk

A FATHER and three sons have all been given prison sentences after a fight during the Huddersfield Town play off finals at Old Trafford in May.

Jailing Paul Barnett, 46, and his sons Jordan, 29, Joel, 21 and Jotham, 20, Judge Bernard Lever said: “It is a tragedy that four hard-working men, because of this terrible affray fuelled by drink, are all ending up in prison.”

Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester heard today (Friday) that it took seven police officers to bring the fight under control during the match against Peterborough on May 29.

Their victims were a Huddersfield Town fan who received facial injuries, and two stewards who both suffered broken noses and bruising to the face.

The court heard that the defendants had spent the afternoon drinking before the match kicked off.

They had all pleaded guilty to affray at an earlier hearing, and Jotham Barnett admitted a further charge of criminal damage.

Paul and Joel Barnett, of Chaster Street, Batley, were both jailed for 18 months. Jordan Barnett of West Park Road, Batley, received a 21 month sentence, and Jotham Barnett, also of Chaster Street, was given 14 months for affray and two months for criminal damage.

China: Shanghai Shenhua FC - Hangzhou Lucheng FC - 28/09/2011

Source : Shanghai Daily + Shanghaiist.com

Violence flares as football fans clash

A clash between hundreds of football fans around Shanghai's Hongkou Football Stadium last night after a match between Shanghai and Hangzhou escalated into a massive gang fight, injuring dozens of people.

Hundreds of police officers including the riot squads and the armed police were dispatched to Dalian Road W, Hongkou District, to deal with the chaos.

After a persuasion, the conflict was solved early this morning with the last bus of the Hangzhou fans leaving at 0:40am.

So far the exact number of the injured is unclear.

A number of fans from both Shanghai Shenhua Football Club and Hangzhou Lucheng Football Club, who allegedly triggered the clash, were taken away by the police and the cause is still under investigation.

"What for? Hope every Shenhua fan is fine and arrives home peacefully," said Shenhua's goalkeeper Wang Dalei on his micro blog early this morning.

The clash happened around 11pm after Shanghai beat Hangzhou 3-2 with a last minute goal. Buses of Lucheng fans were smashed by the home fans and at least two Lucheng fans were injured with fractures, witnesses said.

Although neither of the teams is impossible to win the season's championship, the match between the two was still a fierce and eye-catching one as always, which was dubbed Yangtze Delta Derby.

With a better economic support, Lucheng purchased many core players from Shenhua these years, which made the latter's fans more mad at them.
