Croat hooligans attack Serbia manager - 13/10/2009
VARAŽDIN -- Serbia's youth football squad manager Milovan Đorić was assaulted in Varaždin, Croatia, on Tuesday afternoon.
Đorić told reporters that a group of "some seven or eight hooligans" physically attacked him while he was taking a walk around the town wearing his Serbian team jacket.
The assailants also reportedly pushed the manager to the ground. A man in a nearby store took Đorić in to protect him, until police arrived at the scene.
According to Croatian media, a more serious incident was prevented because riot police were nearby and reacted swiftly. The same sources said that Đorić suffered minor facial injuries.
The incident took place ahead of a match between the youth squads of Serbia and Croatia. Police in Varaždin said they were looking for the attackers

Fears of hooliganism as Turkish-Armenian diplomacy moves to football field - 14/10/2009
Source : Times Online
Mehmet Guzelsoz normally looks forward to football, but the weight of expectation surrounding the match between Turkey and Armenia today is proving difficult to bear.
It is not the game that worries him. Both sides have already forfeited their chances of travelling to the World Cup finals next year.
What worries Mr Guzelsoz, the chairman of the biggest supporters’ group in the northwestern Turkish city of Bursa, where the match will be played, is what could happen in the stands. “Did they really have to chuck this fireball into our laps while the whole world was watching?” he asked.
The match brings to a climax the process of rapprochement that began last year at an Armenia-Turkey match in Yerevan, the Armenian capital. It was attended by Abdullah Gül, the Turkish President. His Armenian counterpart, President Sargsyan, now plans to return the gesture by going to the Bursa match.
Nationalists on both sides oppose the thaw. Afraid of sabotage, authorities in Bursa have been on red alert for days. Their first port of call has been to the supporters’ club, called Texas after the wild reputation its members acquired in the 1970s.
“We’ve talked to everybody,” Mr Guzelsoz said. “The police chief, the governor, politicians, even the President.”
On Sunday morning a Cabinet minister visited the 20,000-seat Ataturk stadium in Bursa to talk to prominent Texas members. “He told us to show the world we are model fans,” said Selim Kurtalan, a Texas fan better known as “the Boss”. “We promised we would do everything to ensure the match went well. Stadiums are for sport. Politics is for outside.”
That is not the image many Turks have of Texas. Since September 26, when violence broke out during a match between Bursa and a team from the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir, the group has been pilloried in the press as a hotbed of racist nationalism.
When some Diyarbakir supporters failed to stand for the national anthem that has been a fixture of domestic games since a Kurdish separatist war broke out in 1984, Bursa fans began hurling insults, stones and plastic chairs. A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital with head injuries. Texas members said that the affair was blown out of proportion. “We accept we are hooligans,” Mr Guzelsoz said disarmingly. “What annoys us is to be described as extreme nationalists.”
Mr Guzelsoz, a Kurd from Diyarbakir, agrees that the slogans shouted during the match were offensive. He blamed the violence however on provocateurs sitting in stands beyond the Texas group’s control.
Running parallel with the Armenian rapprochement, unprecedented Turkish efforts to solve its Kurdish problem have “unfortunately created a fertile ground for provocation”, he added. “Texas will cause no problems but this isn’t even our match. Who else will be in the stadium?”
On Sunday, a small crowd of Turks and Azerbaijani students waving national flags gathered outside the stadium to protest against the Armenian thaw. “The public is being tricked,” Fahrettin Yokus, a trade union leader, told bystanders.
Like many Turks, Texas members said that the Armenian rapprochement could move forward only if Armenia took steps to end the occupation of Azerbaijani land that it has controlled since the 1990s. Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993 to show solidarity with Azerbaijan. Reopening it is one of the steps foreseen by the protocols, due to be ratified by Turkish and Armenian parliaments.
Yet for all their sympathy for Azerbaijanis, most Bursa football fans said that they supported the rapprochement. Batuhan Demirtas, a Texas member, quoted a slogan by Turkey’s founder, Kemal Atatürk: “Peace at home, peace in the world.”
“A century ago, England and France tried to carve this country up,” he said. “Is there any point in scratching old sores? Of course not.”
Nonetheless, the authorities in Bursa are taking no chances. About 2,500 police will be on duty in the stadium tonight and surrounding buildings have been searched.
Texas members doubt that many Armenian fans will turn up. They intend to welcome those who do, mirroring friendly scenes during the match in Yerevan last September.
They even plan to sing a well-known folksong — claimed by Turks, Azeris and Armenians as their own — about a Muslim boy’s tragic love for a Christian girl.
“We have been dragged into politics against our will,” Mr Guzelsoz said.
“That final whistle blows and it is all over for us — politics, opening the [border] gate, opening the window, they can do what they want. We just want to go back to supporting our team. That is our life.”

Polish fans to boycott match - 14/10/2009
Source : Warsaw Business Journal
Polish fans are set to boycott Wednesday's World Cup 2010 qualifying match between Poland and Slovakia.
Only around 3,000 fans are expected to attend the match, which is effectively meaningless after an unsuccessful qualifying campaign. The Chorzów stadium where the match is to be played has a capacity of 15,000.
Fans want the Polish Football Association (PZPN) – which is embroiled in corruption allegations and has seen the arrest of up to 200 people from associated the organization – to be abolished.
According to a poll conducted by TVN24, as many as 96 percent of almost 15,000 respondents are in favor of the boycott.

Don’t come to Blackburn Rovers v Burnley looking for trouble, police chief warns - 14/10/2009
Source : This Is Lancashire
FOOTBALL fans have been urged not to come ‘looking for trouble’ when Blackburn Rovers play Burnley on Sunday.
Lancashire Constabulary Superintendent Chris Bithell believes the fixture at 1pm on Sunday will be remembered for what happens on the field, rather than off it.
He told the Lancashire Telegraph any would-be troublemakers would be quickly dealt with.
Supt Bithell said it was not a case of ‘all leave cancelled’ across East Lancashire, but that there would be a ‘sizeable police presence’ involving officers from across the county.
He said: “It is a propor-tionate response to a high-profile derby fixture and we will be working to ensure people get to the game safely.”
As part of the operation, police teams will also be deployed in surrounding towns such as Accrington, with the game being shown live on Sky Sports.
Supt Bithell said: “The policing operation is across the whole of East Lancashire.
“We are mindful the match is on TV. We hope our resources bode well for the confidence of the local communities.”
Despite speculation, he said police did not have any information about pre-planned disorder and Supt Bithell was keen to remind fans that derby day was about the football.
He said: “We are working hard with both clubs on the travel plans which have been well publicised.
"With the game on TV we expect local people to watch it in their home vicinity.
“In relation to any Burnley fans wanting to come to Blackburn, intent on causing problems, they will be robustly dealt with.
“We’ll assess why they are coming to Blackburn and deal with it.
“We want this game to be remembered for what happens on the pitch.”
Police have been criticised by some fans for making all Clarets fans travel to Ewood Park on official coaches setting off from Turf Moor from 9.30am.

Police officer suspected for killing Vedran Puljic arrested - 15/10/09
Source: sarajevo-x.com
Dragan Vujovic (27), a policeman from Ljubushki, was arrested on suspicion of killing supporter of FC Sarajevo Vedran Puljic, on 4th of October in Shiroki Brijeg and on the request of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office will be held in custody for thirty days, confirmed Dragica Simic, president of the Cantonal Court in Shiroki Brijeg.
According to unofficial information, the suspect Vukojevic said he did not shoot during the riots in Shiroki Brijeg, but on his hands traces of gunpowder were found. He defended himself by saying that Oliver Knezović usurped his gun from him, and that the gunpowder on his hands is from the burning torches.
Prosecutor Vesna Ćavar said that the administration of the Federal Police sent to the Prosecution of ZHK charges against four people from Sarajevo who participated in riots in Shiroki Brijeg on 4th of October.
Federal police spokesman Robert Cvrtak said that Federal Police Department interrogated 50 people so far and that Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in Shiroki Brijeg filed 11 criminal charges
Minister of ZHK Interior Affairs Ivica Gaspar for Ljubuški Radio said it is still not known whether it was murder or accident. Puljic was shot with ammunition caliber nine millimeters, which corresponds to pistol brand "Glock," which is police officers official gun.
However, police continues to point Knezovic Oliver, who is on the run, as the main suspect for the death of Vedrana Puljic , although Knezović, as it was determined, fired from an automatic rifle Kalashnikov-type, which has a 7.62 mm caliber.

Ban for "Alcatraz" and "Belgrade Boys" - 15/10/09
Source: mtsmondo.com
Main fan subgroups of Grobari and Delije - Alcatraz and Belgrade boys shall be prohibited, or deleted from the registry of the competent ministry!
It was announced Thursday by the Republic Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanovic, who announced to journalists that the Council for the prevention of violence in sport adopted his initiative to ban extreme Fan subgroups.
Radovanovic said that since 2002. there have been seven death cases in conection with violation of public peace and order.
"It is a striking fact," Radovanovic said, adding that his initiative for the elimination of extreme fan groups should lead to a ban, and their removal from the register of the competent ministry.
Subgroups have their own leaders and representatives explained Radovanovic, adding that they are part of fans or a subgroup of two or three of the clubs, Partizan, Red Star and Rad.
Subgroups are extremist and holders of disturbance and against them were submitted a number of criminal and misdemeanor charges, he said and announced that it in the future, acting upon these applications, will be checked.
At a press conference in the Serbian Government, after the Council session, Radovanovic said that there is a high degree of determination and commitment of all state authorities to confront these phenomena in the most efficient way.
"The first step will be the abolition of these subgroups and removal from the register, and the prohibition for most extreme fans to attend sporting events," said Radovanovic and pointed to a small number of people, dozens of them from the fan subgroup of "Alcatraz", Belgrade Boys "Ludaci Padinska Skela" ...
He explained that in making the initiative to ban extreme groups he based his proposal on the report of Ministry of Interior Affairs, stating that since 2006. till today there were a lot of incidents of violation of public peace and order in which were injured dozens of citizens, severely and lihtly, as well as police officers and at the same time great material damage was caused.
According to Radovanović's personal assessment, "it is a very serious phenomenon of organization of these subgroups, which may in the future grow to such proportions that it will be much harder to oppose them, than we are now able to."

Prosecutor calls for ban on “extremist fans” - 16/10/09
Source: FoNet BELGRADE - Public Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanović has announced a ban on extremist sub-groups of Red Star, Partizan and Rad fans.
Radovanović said that the Council for Preventing Violence in Sport had accepted the initiative.
The prosecutor pointed out that certain sub-groups of Red Star, Partizan and Rad fans were on the police’s records.
The main culprits, he said, were believed to be the Ultra Boys, Belgrade Boys, Alcatraz, Anti Romi, Ludaci Padinska Skela, adding that there were many such groups.
Stressing that his proposal was based on police reports over the past three years, the prosecutor said that he would be checking charges brought against members of the fan groups to ensure they were being handled effectively.
“I will be checking all criminal proceedings against these troublemakers, to see whether they’ve served their sentences or if any proceedings were dropped,” Radovanović told a press conference after a meeting between the council and the government.
He stressed that the initiative did not apply to fans who went to matches out of true sporting interest, because they were also threatened by so called fan sub-groups.
Radovanović repeated that all the authorities were determined to stand up to violence in sports, and that the first step was eliminating these sub-groups and banning the most extreme members from matches.
He said that dozens of citizens and police officers had been injured and seven killed as a result of incidents caused by fans between 2006 and 2009.
Youth and Sports Minister Snežana Samardžić-Marković expects this initative to come before the Constitutional Court soon. She also announced the adoption of an action plan to prevent violence in sports at the next meeting of the Council, the first goal of which would be the outlawing of extremist groups.
She added that the first international conference on combating violence and racism in sports, an initiative by the Council of Europe, would be held in Belgrade on October 20-21.

Police Administration of Belgrade filed today, upon the Law on Prevention of violence and inappropriate behavior at sporting events, to the city magistrate request for initiation of proceedings against several persons, including the President of Serbia Boris Tadić, announced the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Request for initiation of proceedings was filed against the Football Association of Serbia and Tomislav Karadzic as the responsible person in legal entity, as well as against individuals Boris Tadic from Belgrade, Aleksandar Antic and Snezana Samardzic Markovic both from Belgrade, Serbian police stated.

Two days ago Tadic said for "Blic" he will pay the fine if he violated the law.
"I have not drank anything that day, I raised a glass, but if the court finds I violated the law, I think its my obligation to pay the fine," said Tadic.

Result, but only if you're a football yob - 17/10/2009
Source : Hull Daily Mail
Dozens of football hooligans who went on the rampage at the KC Stadium may never be caught, police have admitted.
The Metropolitan Police have known for weeks who the most wanted Millwall fans are - but are failing to track them down.
The force has even cancelled a national appeal on the Crimestoppers website which showed the images of 32 most wanted.
The Mail understands the London-based force has bigger priorities to focus on, including the post-match investigation into the violence at Upton Park last month when Millwall played West Ham in the Carling Cup.
It comes as Humberside Police confirm Operation Thunder - which was set up in January to bring to justice all those involved in the violent scenes at the KC Stadium during the FA Cup fixture - has been concluded.
As part of the investigation, Humberside Police passed the details to the Met of 57 Millwall fans they wanted to speak to.
Of these, images of 32 of the most wanted fans were published on Crimewatch and, despite members of the public giving the names of 24 of these fans, the Met have so far only spoken to three of these men.
They took no further action against these men.
Humberside Police have now ruled out plans to travel to London to carry out the arrests themselves.
Chief Inspector Darren Downs, who was in charge of policing on the day of the game, vowed after the game that all the main culprits would be caught.
However, speaking to the Mail yesterday, he said it is inevitable some of the fans won't be found.
He said: "We have got to accept that, for whatever reasons, some of these people may never be found.
"I'm quite happy and confident that the Metropolitan Police are doing all they can to bring these people to justice.
"But we have to accept that the Metropolitan Police are also doing a major post match investigation including up to 1,000 people where there was very serious assaults.
"For me, I'd have to prioritise something on a bigger scale, rather than something that happened outside my force area.
"Its not up to Humberside Police to travel to London to make arrests.
"The question I have got to ask is, what benefits will we get from spending a load of money on travelling to London and chasing these individuals?"
So far, 16 Hull city fans have been jailed, two Millwall fans have been jailed. A further eight Millwall supporters were fined.
All fans were also banned from games for periods of between three and nine years.
Although Humberside Police say they are pleased with the amount of banning orders they have in place as a result of the investigation, they are disappointed that more Millwall fans have not been brought to justice.
The Mail can also reveal that Millwall fans who have been caught are evading justice by failing to turn up to court.
Warrants for the arrest of two Millwall fans have been issued after they failed to turn up to Hull magistrates Court last week.
The Mail approached the Metropolitan Police several times, but the force failed to answer any of our questions.

Seven people arrested in town and near the stadium; one man injured
Everything only for a stolen banner in...1999 ! That season St Etienne supporter have stolen the Butte Paillade official banner. That's the reason why this game was classified as a high-risks one. But that's also why riots occured during the afternoon near the stadium with, at 10.30pm seven people injured and one other injured. Inside the stadium everything was clam with a great atmosphere.
If 300 policemen were on duty for the game, including 80 french CRS and 40 special unit police to control both St Etienne ultras mobs, Green Angels and Magic Fans But the problem was some of them had the idea to go to the beach - refused by their coach dirvers - and the in the city center.
In town, a fight occured, opposing 50 to 80 Montpellier supporters who decided to confront their rivals. Police used flash-balls to disperse them. One visitor was injured by a metal stick at his head so two locals were arrested. Two other locals were also arrested as they threw kicks in coaches with ASSE supporters inside. In front of the stadium, 3 away fans were also arrested: a dad and his son as they were drunk but also Magic Fans leader. They were released after the game.
