| Football hooligans turn themselves in - 03/06/2009
Source : worldradio.ch
Three suspected football hooligans have handed themselves into police after their faces appeared on the internet. The three were photographed during violence at the time of the Swiss Cup Final between FC Sion and the Bern Young Boys on May 20th. Police in Bern had posted photographs on the internet last week to try to track down some of those involved. They’ve also appealed to the public to supply them with any images they may have, either photos or videos.

| Five more charged in connection with Rangers UEFA Cup rioting - 02/06/2009
Source : Scottish Daily Record
ANOTHER five men have been charged with violent disorder after Rangers hooligans rioted in Manchester following the Uefa Cup Final last May.
All five, three men from Scotland and two living in England, are due to appear at Manchester City Magistrates' Court in August.
The men are: Gordon Forrest, 44, of Ledi Drive, Bearsden, Glasgow; James Bell, 42, of Corrie View, Cumbernauld; Thomas Murphy, 27, Flatterton Road, Greenock; David McCullough, 20, of Moorcroft Drive, Burnage, Manchester; and David Annette, 34, of Yarrow Road, Chorley, Lancashire.
The charges come more than a year after the rioting which broke out in Manchester city centre on May 14 last year, when an estimated 150,000 Rangers fans travelled to the city for the Glasgow club's match with Zenit St Petersberg held at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Trouble first broke out after a screen in the largest fan zone failed before kick-off.
Hooligans fought running battles with police for several hours after the violence erupted.
Two boys from Glasgow, aged 16 and 17, are due to answer bail tomorrow and a 26-year-old man from Glasgow and a 19-year-old man from Lanarkshire are due to answer bail on June 15.
Four more men, all from Scotland, are due to answer bail in July.
All were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

| CSKA Sofia defends supporters, accusing Lovech police of hooliganism and destruction of property - 03/06/2009Source : Sofia Echo The football club has released a statement on its official website, where it staunchly defends the actions of its supporters in Lovech on May 31. "The latest attack against CSKA has started a phase of total war against the club and its most precious asset, the supporters" the statement says. "The provocation in Lovech against the club and fans, prove that our supporters have stood by us loyally – and it also showed that because of certain Neanderthals delegated in certain positions, and their subsequent abuse of power, Bulgarian football will once again suffer bitter reprisals" the statement says. This is in relation to events which unfolded in Lovech between Litex and CSKA, a match which the Reds from Sofia lost 1-0, effectively eliminating them from the title chase, with Levski Sofia securing the championship in the process. A disallowed CSKA goal, prompted violence on the terraces from the visiting supporters, which then spilled onto the pitch, and after the final whistle, on the streets of the northern Bulgarian town. As a consequence, CSKA Sofia fans have been slapped with a wholesome ban from Litex Lovech. Accordingly, CSKA supporters will not be allowed to attend away matches at Litex Lovech until further notice, the Lovech-based club said in a statement. By the end of the day, 27 supporters were arrested during and after the match for hooliganism. According to the press release however, "police dogs were encouraged to attack Reds supporters before the trouble started, Lovech police officers themselves were involved in destruction of public property, and hooliganism, and therefore the club will not be subjected to the injust stigmatisations incurred by the 'so called impartial, unbiased, and nonaligned media'". "Such outright sacrilege and debasement of our fans, cannot, and will not, be tolerated by us, ever" the statement says. *********************************************** CSKA Sofia fans banned from Litex LovechCSKA Sofia supporters have been slapped with a wholesome ban from the northern Bulgarian team Litex Lovech after violence marred the last league match between the two teams. CSKA supporters will not be allowed to attend away matches at Litex Lovech until further notice, the Lovech-based club said in a statement. The violence was sparked in part because CSKA's hopes of retaining the Bulgarian title were shattered on May 31 when they lost 1-0 to Litex, which meant arch rivals Levski Sofia leapfrogged them to the Bulgarian crown. As a result of the scrap, 27 supporters were arrested during and after the match for hooliganism. Dozens of CSKA fans invaded the pitch and clashed with riot police during the closing stages of the game following a disallowed goal, causing the match to be held up for several minutes. The visiting fans were hurling bottles and missiles on the pitch, and more running battles were staged outside of the ground after the match. To add insult to injury, the managing board of CSKA Sofia said it received only one invitation for the crucial international qualifier with Ireland on June 6. The Reds are fuming because they have "two owners and two executive directors" and yet only one invitation was forwarded by the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU). "The managing board is very insulted by the BFU decision. We have always allowed the national football team to train at CSKA's training grounds in Pancharevo. From now on, if the national team wants to use the Pancharevo base, they will have to pay for it, through their nose" a CSKA statement read, as quoted by Sportal.bg. | |

| Toon thug handed three-year banning order - 03/06/2009
Source : ChronicleLive
THERE will be no more boozy away days for this yob. Dean Richardson played the role of loyal supporter, following the Magpies at home and abroad.
But now he has been booted out of the game after his years of yob antics were exposed.
Richardson, of Delaval Road, Forest Hall, has been hit with a three-year football banning order after a dossier of disorder relating to the 26-year-old was presented to Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard he was one of 87 United fans arrested after a large-scale dust-up in the Dutch town of Breda in October 2003.
He was also linked to a group involved in trouble before a Toon game with AZ Alkmaar in March 2007.
And he has been linked to disorder that has flared after a number of derby clashes between Sunderland and Newcastle in recent years.
At his court hearing, Northumbria Police’s PC Steven Graham presented a statement outlining the force’s application for a banning order against Richardson.
It told how he had been arrested while travelling home from a Liverpool away game in March last year, when train passengers complained about his rowdy behaviour.
On April 7, 2007, Newcastle played at Sheffield United and he was spotted with a group of so-called “risk supporters”, a number of whom who have been given bans.
In relation to the Alkmaar incident, the statement said: “Shortly before the match at 6.30pm, an incident took place in The Main Square in Alkmaar.
“This resulted in one arrest for disorder and tension was high between both sets of fans.
“English football spotters were deployed around the area and they heard a male with an English accent say ‘I’ve just given them the invite, it’s up to them now. If you’re up for it, all the lads are in the bar on the left. That’s where it’s going to happen’.
“This man walked towards a bar a few yards away and met up with a number of men, including Richardson.
“A number of Dutch men approached the bar and voices were raised. Officers heard the expression ‘Just feet and fists, we’ll fight you with feet and fists’.
“Blows were subsequently exchanged and the Dutch ran off. As they did so Richardson came to the front of a group and shouted ‘******* come on then’, gesturing with outstretched arms in an aggressive manner.
“The officers approached the group and Richardson and others ran off.”
The dossier stated Richardson had also been in trouble at a Middlesbrough away game in October 2006 and he was arrested and cautioned at a Sunderland derby in September 2002.
He was given a reprimand for using disorderly, threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour at another derby in 2000 and fresh statements were provided linking him to trouble that flared after the last two Wear-Tyne games.
Richardson’s ban prevents him going to any game in England and Wales or being in town centres on match days.

| Corinthians - Vasco de Gama - Brazil Cup - 03/06/2009
Source : Latin American Herald Tribune
One Dead, 8 Injured in Football-Related Violence in Brazil
A man was killed and eight others injured in a pitched battle in the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, between fans of rival football clubs Corinthians and Vasco da Gama, doctors said Thursday.
The unidentified 27-year-old Corinthians fan was beaten to death by Vasco da Gama supporters, police said.
The cause of the fight, which spread through the streets around Pacaembu Stadium, has not been determined.
Corinthians, led by Ronaldo, tied Vasco da Gama 0-0 on Wednesday, qualifying for the Brazil Cup final.
Seven of the eight injured soccer fans were released from the hospital on Thursday morning, while the eighth remains hospitalized for treatment of serious arm wounds, the Sao Paulo Health Secretariat said.
A bus carrying Vasco da Gama fans was set on fire and at least five vehicles were damaged by stones during the riot.
A total of 128 people were arrested, but most of them have already been released, police said.
Four individuals with prior criminal records and one wanted by authorities are among the 27 people still being held, police said.

| Argentina : San Martin players threatened by armed hooligans - 04/06/2009
Source : ESPN
Players at relegation-threatened Argentinian side San Martin have been threatened by armed hooligans during a training session.
The Tucuman side are trying to avoid a quick return to the second division a season after being promoted but are in big trouble after winning only one of their last six Clausura games.
Chilean striker Cristian Canio revealed that the prospect of relegation resulted in coach Carlos Roldan and the players being confronted by supporters carrying guns during training.
Canio told ADN Radio Chile: "A big group of fans came to pressure us because we were not winning. They met the coach first and then spoke to us. They told us we were stealing their money and that they had asked for no money to travel with the team."
According to Canio, the hooligans threatened to damage their cars and hurt their families if the team was unable to claim the final nine points available to them in their campaign.
"They went away arguing and screaming and firing shots into the air," added the Chilean. "The president told us he could not do anything against the fans so we are all worried as we have families.
"We have been insulted and cannot walk on the streets because they look at us in a threatening manner. I have never experienced anything like this before."

| Youths charged over Uefa violence - 04/06/2009
Source : BBC News
Two youths have been charged by police investigating the serious disorder surrounding last year's Uefa Cup final in Manchester.
The males - aged 16 and 17 - are both from Glasgow.
They are expected to appear in court in Manchester in August - along with five other men who were charged on Tuesday.
An estimated 150,000 Rangers fans travelled to the city for the Glasgow club's match with Zenit St Petersburg, which the Russian side won 2-0.
Violence broke out in Manchester after a screen in a fan-zone broke before kick-off.
Police had previously released CCTV pictures of 49 people they believed were involved in the riots, which saw officers and supporters hurt and property damaged.

| Scotland : Airdrie fans victims of "heavy-handed police" - 03/06/2009
Source : Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser
Fans feel the strong arm of the law
AIRDRIE United supporters were victims of heavy-handed policing, it has been claimed.
Many of the estimated 700 Diamonds fans who travelled to Somerset Park for the first leg of the SFL first division play-off final against Ayr United were filmed and photographed by cops.
Some were asked for their personal details, despite the match passing without any crowd disorder.
And a huge police presence – including mounted officers – was said to have created an intimidating atmosphere at the match which took place two weeks ago.
Craig Hamilton (43), an Airdrie United Supporters’ Trust committee member, was at the game and felt the police action was disproportionate.
The lifelong Diamonds fan said: “There was a very large police presence at the game and while the match passed by uneventfully all fans, both Ayr and Airdrie, were allowed to leave the stadium at the same time.
“This could have caused a problem as all away fans have to walk past the home end to return to cars and buses officially parked near the race course. As the Airdrie fans including women and young children were leaving the ground we were photographed and videoed. Several fans including a father and daughter were escorted to an area where they were again photographed and asked for personal details. All of this despite there being no incident within the ground.
“The level of policing seemed like the equivalent of an Old Firm match and it just wasn’t needed.”
Airdrie fans were greeted by a “considerable police presence” when they arrived at Somerset Park.
Mounted officers and foot patrols were out in force and supporters were being photographed as they arrived at the ground.
The Advertiser was told that the number of police at the ground contributed to an “intimidating atmosphere”.
One fan who asked the police why they wanted personal details and photos, was told that the officers were investigating a street battle between rival groups of Partick Thistle and Airdrie fans.
Before a league clash between the two sides on May 2 at Partick’s Firhill Stadium, there was a mass brawl in Glasgow’s West End.
A man was left seriously injured in hospital and cops said they were on the hunt for the hooligans involved.
Airdrie fans have been involved in trouble at Somerset Park before when around 100 fans invaded the pitch in 2002 and broke a crossbar during a supporters’ protest.
Chief Inspector Andy Sweeney of Ayr Police Office defended his officers handling of the match at Somerset Park two weeks ago.
He said: “When planning for any major football event, public safety is always a prime objective; not only the safety of the supporters attending such events, but the safety of the wider community as a whole. In doing so for the Wednesday night match we took account of the significance of this match for both clubs and their supporters, anticipated attendance, all relevant intelligence and options available in determining how it was policed.
“I am delighted that there were no reports whatsoever of any football-related violence or disorder prior to, during or after the match. This is something which I would like to attribute to the successful policing, the effective stewarding of Somerset Park that evening and the conduct of the supporters. Anyone who was stopped by police would have been given a full explanation as to why they were stopped. I have received no complaints regarding any aspect of policing at the match.”

| Pictures released of Millwall hooligans - 04/06/2009
Source : Hull Daily Mail
Pictures of Millwall fans thought to be responsible for violent disorder at the KC Stadium have been released.
The Mail can reveal police want to speak to 32 Millwall supporters as part of Operation Thunder, which was launched after the violent scenes at the stadium during the January 26 FA Cup match.
The images, taken from CCTV cameras at the stadium, have been released by the Metropolitan Police and have now been circulated through local press in London.
Police hope members of the public will come forward and name those responsible for the scenes, in which chairs, bottles and coins were thrown.
Humberside Police have always stressed they are keen to prosecute all fans who were involved, regardless of which team they support. Click here for more
Chief Inspector Darren Downs, previously told the Mail: "We have a lot of CCTV to review, but my message is, we will get you all eventually.
"We will get an awful lot of the people who were anywhere near involved.
"You can see the faces so clearly, so if we can't identify them, they will be identified for us.
"Certainly all the main players will be arrested."
The Mail understands a significant number of people have now been arrested - including both Hull City and Millwall fans.
Many handed themselves in after they were warned by police they would get a knock at the door if they did not attend their local police station.
It came after police 'spotters' in both London and Hull were able to identify many of those responsible after trawling through CCTV.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Officers from Humberside Police are working with the Metropolitan Police to trace those involved in the troubles.
"Anyone who recognises any of the people shown in the images should contact police."
