Zenit St Petersburg punished by UEFA for another racism infraction - 0/06/2018

Source: http://kwese.espn.com/

UEFA has ordered Zenit St Petersburg to play their next European game behind closed doors in another racism sanction for World Cup host nation Russia.

Zenit fans jeered injured Leipzig player Naby Keita, who is from Guinea and will join Liverpool next season, during a Europa League game in March at the same St Petersburg stadium that will host World Cup matches.

As well as ordering Zenit to play their Europa League qualifier in July without fans, UEFA fined the club €50,000 for its fans' racist behavior, and another €20,000 for the throwing of objects and blocked stairways.

Zenit also faced two previous racism charges from UEFA last season. In November, they were fined over a banner honouring the convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic at a Europa League game.

FIFA fined Russia after fans racially abused France players during an international friendly in St Petersburg in March.

Racist chants became more common in Russian football this season even as the overall number of racism incidents decreased, according to a study published last week.

Police on hunt for 100 missing football hooligans ahead of World Cup kick off - 09/06/2018

Source : https://www.mirror.co.uk/

100 British football hooligans are yet to hand in their passports - four days before the World Cup in Russia kicks off

Nearly 100 British football hooligans have not handed in their passports – four days before the World Cup kicks off.

Police spotters are at airports in case any of the 1,700 people banned from travel for disorder try to leave for Russia.

Fears over travelling fans’ welfare grew this week as MPs warned of the risk of homophobic, racist and anti-British attacks.

Political tensions are running high after Britain blamed Russia for March’s poisoning of ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal, 66, and daughter Yulia, 33, in Salisbury. President Vladimir Putin denied it was a Kremlin hit.

owdy Three Lions fans may risk a “disproportionate” response by Russian police over “banter”.

Last night Deputy Chief Constable Mark Roberts, UK’s top football cop, issued warnings before England’s first match against Tunisia.

He said England flags and fans were seen as “trophies” to hooligans and British cops cannot guarantee the safety of the 9,000 travelling from th UK.

He said England’s opener on June 18 is in Volgograd, which used to be Stalingrad and has many sensitive sites.

He said: “We’d not expect foreign fans to come to London, drink to excess and drape their flags on the Cenotaph. That would clearly cause offence.”

England fans fear a repeat of bloody clashes with Moscow-based hooligans at Euro 2016 in Marseille, France.

Mr Roberts admitted the ongoing tensions with Russia are “difficult” but denied they hindered organising security for British supporters. He said they worked closely with Russian police at the Euros and still have a good relationship. Russian hooligans have issued a “death threat” to all England fans daring to travel to group games in Nizhny Novgorod, Kaliningrad and Volgograd.

It is feared Russia’s ultras, who stage military-style training sessions, will strike. Mr Roberts has also warned England fans against singing possibly offensive chants in the belief it is banter. He said: “It’s just not funny – certainly in Russia that sort of attempted humour will not go down well.”

He said if there were attacks on British fans because of their race, ethnicity or sexual orientation he would demand action from Russia’s authorities.
Anyone convicted of taking part in Marseille-style hooligan disorder may face up to 15 years in jail in Russia. And assaulting a police officer carries a term of up to ten years.

Mr Roberts also warned that touts caught trying to flog tickets could end up with ruinously heavy penalties.

In a sliding scale of fines, touts selling tickets for the group stages will face a penalty of a few hundred pounds.

But selling a ticket to the final could earn them a £20,000 fine. They may have to pay before being booted out.

England : Police hunt Bristol Rovers fans after seats thrown at Plymouth Argyle supporters - 14/06/2018

Source : https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/

Season 17/18 - June 180617094649740971

Police want to identify four Bristol Rovers fans after seats were thrown at Plymouth Argyle fans.

The appeal, put out today by Avon and Somerset Police, comes after Argyle beat Rovers 3-2 during a League One play-off race clash at Home Park on March 17.

A force spokesperson said: "We’d like to identify these four Bristol Rovers fans.

"On Saturday 17 March, Rovers played a League One match at Plymouth Argyle.

"Rovers lost on the day 3-2 and there were some issues within the stands of the stadium which led to seats being ripped up and thrown at rival fans.

"Do you recognise these men? We believe the four men pictured can help us with our enquiries into the incident."

At the time of the incident, Plymouth Live reported that the game was marred by some unsavoury scenes at full-time with emotions running high and fans trying to get at each other in the Barn Park End.

Over 1,500 Rovers fans made the short trip down the M5 and A38 to watch the two play-off chasing teams battle it out and it was Argyle that came out on top, winning a thriller 3-2, which boosted their play-off aspirations and put a dent in those of Rovers.

However, the match was overshadowed by the sight of Rovers fans ripping up seats, throwing objects and trying to get at Argyle fans at full-time.

This video was captured inside the stadium by our Argyle correspondent Jak Ball, who was sat amongst the Green Army in the Barn Park End, next to the Rovers fans.

Things started off as just a bit of general goading, although one fan is caught being arrested after entering the playing surface.

Argyle fans can then be heard singing about Graham Carey, whose late penalty settled the contest, before things turn nastier when a seat and other objects are seeing being thrown at the Argyle fans by their Rovers counterparts.

British police investigate video showing England fans making Nazi salutes - 21/06/2018

Source : https://www.standard.co.uk/

Season 17/18 - June 180621110055708139

The footage showed three fans raising their arms in the salute while singing an anti-Semitic song with references to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

It appeared to have been filmed in a bar in the Russian city of Volgograd, where the English national team faced Tunisia in their opening match on Monday.

England fans had previously been warned not to hang St George’s flags on monuments in the city, formerly known as Stalingrad.

"The abhorrent behaviour seen in this video is completely unacceptable and it will not be tolerated," said Detective Superintendent Caroline Marsh, Britain's investigations lead for the Russia World Cup said on Wednesday.

"Our investigation team in the UK is already making swift enquiries to identify those involved and will seek to take all appropriate action against them."

The English Football Association said it "strongly condemned" the actions of the people in the video.

"We are working with the relevant authorities, including the UK police investigations team, who are making enquiries to identify the individuals involved and take appropriate action," a representative said.

"The disgraceful conduct of the individuals in this video does not represent the values of the majority of English football fans supporting the team in Russia."

Commenting on the Nazi salute incident, the British embassy in Russia said its advice for all visiting fans was "to be good guests whilst they are here, by following local laws and customs".

Argentina authorities identify brawling fans, call for deportation

Season 17/18 - June 180623023814100598

Argentina said on Friday it had asked Russia to detain and deport four of its football fans filmed fighting with supporters from Croatia at a World Cup match on Thursday.

Russia and football's world governing body FIFA have promised to hold a safe and welcoming World Cup, despite concerns that the tournament could be marred by hooliganism and fan violence.

All violent incidents reported so far have been relatively minor, but a video filmed during Thursday's emotionally-charged match between Argentina and Croatia in Nizhny Novgorod showed a group of men fighting in the stands.

Russia's World Cup organising committee said seven Argentines had been detained by police after the match, in which Croatia beat Argentina 3-0 and left the hopes of the twice world champions hanging by a thread.

Argentina fined for foul fans - 26/06/2018

Source : https://www.sbs.com.au/

Argentina have been fined over the behaviour of their fans at the World Cup, football governing body FIFA said.

Season 17/18 - June 180626104247667109

FIFA has fined Argentina's soccer federation 105,000 Swiss francs ($A145,000) for offensive behaviour by fans including fighting and anti-gay chants at the loss against Croatia.

Video posted on Twitter showed Argentina fans kicking and punching a man wearing a Croatia shirt at the stadium.

One kicked the head of the Croatia supporter who was lying on a concrete walkway leading from the grandstand in Nizhny Novgorod.

Seven Argentina fans were later detained and charged with minor offences.

FIFA rules hold member federations responsible for fans' behaviour at World Cup stadiums.

Charges against the Argentina federation also included fans throwing objects, "homophobic and insulting chants," and failing to attend mandatory post-game interviews.

Serbia - Brazil - 27/06/2018

Source : https://www.thesun.co.uk/

Police arrest nine as Brazil and Serbia fans trade blows amid crowd trouble at Spartak Stadium

THE World Cup saw its first trouble inside a stadium tonight as fighting broke out during Brazil's win over Serbia - with nine people arrested because of the violence.

Punches were traded in the stands as the South Americans sealed top spot in Group E with a 2-0 win over their rivals.

Local Russian station Kommersant FM reported on Thursday that nine people have been detained for "violation of order".

Women were caught up in the melee as opposition fans grappled and hit each other at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow.

Stewards intervened to split up the warring supporters and one woman was left clearly shaken by being involved.

She was in tears after appearing to be struck and grabbed by a pair of fans wearing Brazil shirts at the end of the game.

It is unclear what started the trouble as tempers boiled over during the crucial match which decided who would make it through to the knockout stages.

During the build up to Russia 2018 there were major fears that the tournament would be beset by crowd trouble.

But in the two weeks it has been going, there have been few reports of any serious incidents as supporters enjoy the feast of football on show.

This World Cup has been one of the most enjoyable for years, with just one match ending goalless and a series of surprise results.

Watch Bristol City and Rovers fans brawl in the street after England World Cup match - 24/06/2018

Source : https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/

Just minutes after England won 6-1, this happened in Park Street...

This was the moment violence erupted between Bristol City and Bristol Rovers fans in the centre of Bristol less than half an hour after the end of England’s Sunday lunchtime World Cup match.

The shocking scenes included tables, shop signs, cones and street furniture being thrown between two brawling gangs of football fans outside a bar in Park Street.

Bristol Live has obtained two separate pieces of footage, filmed by individuals in both groups of fans, which are being widely circulated by people in the city in WhatsApp groups and on social media.

It appears the brawl broke out when Rovers met City fans outside the Elbow Room bar in Park Street.

The fight begins with a small number of people throwing things at each other, and then cuts to seconds later when fighting breaks out.

At one point, the Rovers fans can be clearly heard chanting ‘GHS’ - which is an abbreviation of the 'Gas Hit Squad' Bristol Rovers hooligan group.

What appears to be the most serious violence involves a man in a blue shirt, who uses a large pole or stick to strike a man in a white shirt, who has already been hit by a flying bar stool.

Those in the bar, including the man filming the majority of the footage, implore both sides to stop fighting, pointing out that they were all supporting England that day.

“You’re supporting the same team, bruv,” he is heard to shout. “It’s pointless.”

The trouble spilled off the pavement and onto Park Street itself, with one astonishing scene showing a man launching a pub board into the air, and another throwing a bar stool over a car.

In an official statement on the disorder, which was described as a 'serious police incident' by Avon and Somerset police on Sunday afternoon (June 24), a spokesperson said officers were on the scene within three minutes to diffuse the situation.

But a stand-off is understood to have developed, and police deployed its mounted division to chase one group down Park Street and across College Green, according to Cllr Mark Bradshaw, who was an eye-witness to the aftermath.

He told Bristol Live: "Police officers told us they had caught a suspect. (It) looked very serious given number of police vehicles, horses and ambulance present. Glad police dealt with what I guess was a violent situation. Just a shame a nice afternoon in Bristol was marred by mindless violence.

"I was at the end of Park Street, while the incident looked like half-way up or further. I asked someone nearby what was going on - was told about fighting but didn't see (it) myself."

Across Bristol, tens of thousands of fans enjoyed the game in bars, at Millennium Square and some 3,000 or more were at the Ashton Gate World Cup Village, where the scenes were joyous as England booked their place in the last 16 of the World Cup.

In an original statement on the incident, police made no mention of the trouble being football-related. A spokesman said: "At 3.20pm today officers were called to Park Street to reports of a disorder involving a number of people.

"They were at the scene within three minutes and quickly brought an end to the disturbance.

"One man sustained a head injury in the incident and has been taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening or life changing.

"Five people were arrested for public order offences and remain in police custody."

England won the match 6-1 against Panama on Sunday and the match ended just after 3pm, so the disorder broke out within minutes on Park Street.

Police officers first on the scene quickly called for reinforcements, including police dogs, who helped catch some of those responsible for the violence.

But Bristol Live understands a total of six people were arrested on Sunday, and police are treating it as an incident of football-related disorder.

It is understood those six have been released under investigation for further inquiries, and police are now going through the video footage of the incident to identify the offenders.

Swiss players avoid World Cup ban for 'double eagle' celebrations

Season 17/18 - June 180705092538731057

Switzerland players Granit Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri and Stephan Lichtsteiner escaped bans on Monday for celebrating goals with a pro-Kosovo double eagle gesture in their World Cup win over Serbia.
Fifa said Xhaka and Shaqiri would each be fined 10,000 Swiss francs (€8,700, $10,000) and Lichtsteiner 5,000 Swiss francs.

Arsenal midfielder Xhaka and Stoke City's Shaqiri trace their roots to Kosovo, a former province of Serbia where thousands were killed and tens of thousands more chased from their homes during a 1998-1999 conflict between Serbian forces and ethnic Albanian guerillas.

The double eagle symbol represents the Albanian flag and is viewed as a symbol of defiance in Kosovo, which declared independence in 2008 in a move that Serbia still refuses to recognise.

The players' celebrations in the 2-1 win over Serbia on Friday caused outrage in Serbia.

Fifa rules prohibit political symbols in stadiums and the three playfiers could have been banned.

But Fifa said it was imposing the fines "for unsporting behaviour contrary to the principles of fair-play".

Serbian Football Association president Slavisa Kokeza and Serbia coach Mladen Krstajic were each fined 5,000 Swiss francs for comments they made after the match.

Krstajic told Serbian journalists that German referee Felix Brych should be tried for war crimes in The Hague for failing to award his team a penalty.

The Serbian FA was also fined 54,000 Swiss francs for the behaviour of fans during the game – they displayed discriminatory banners and messages and threw objects.
