| Hunt for 8 men who 'attacked' Burnley fans - 10/06/2009
Source : Lancashire Telegraph
THESE are the eight men wanted by police after bottles, coins and flares were hurled at Burnley fans.
Terrified Clarets supporters were showered with missiles by Southampton fans after a Championship game at St Mary’s in April.
And now Hampshire police have released photos of eight hooligans in an attempt to track down the culprits.
Burnley fans reacted furiously following the game after a police chief said they must shoulder some of the blame for the violent scenes.
But the move by police yesterday has been backed by supporters’ leaders and Burnley FC.
Chief Supt Matthew Greening, Southampton FC match commander, said: “We are committed to identifying and bringing to justice those people who were responsible for violence and disorder.
“Our enquiry is aimed at sending a strong message to Southampton fans that we will not tolerate violence or threatening behaviour of any kind at football matches and we will act if supporters break the law.”
The 2-2 draw on April 25 sealed Southampton’s relegation from the Championship, prompting 1,500 angry fans to invade the pitch.
Burnley fans were taunted and missiles - including bottles, coins and flares - were hurled at away supporters.
Mr Greening added: “I understand it was a tough season for Saints supporters but the behaviour of a few so-called fans immediately after the Burnley match was totally unacceptable and there is no place for it at St Mary’s or any venue in the city.
“It is fortunate that serious injury was not caused to anyone that day.
“If you recognise any of the people captured on camera then I’d urge you to come forward and tell us who they are so that we can deal with them.”
Alex Wood, Burnley FC’s stadium manager, said the club had no power to ban the fans if they were identified and convicted.
However, he urged Southampton to take action and praised police for releasing the images.
He said: “We would expect the opposition team to have something in place so these people cannot purchase away tickets for Turf Moor.
“We welcome this action by police and we applaud anything to tackle football violence.”
Alan Beecroft, from fans group Colne Clarets, added: “I think it is absolutely right that the police have released these pictures.
“Burnley fans were the innocent parties in all this and there was no provocation from our supporters in the ground.
“They were hooligans and they were angry they were getting relegated.
“This action by police appeases us fans a bit and it shows us that they are doing something to stop it happening again.”
After the game in April, Mr Greening angered Burnley fans by claiming they were being “quite proactive” towards their Southampton counterparts and were “winding them up”.
Yesterday, he stood by his comments, saying Clarets fans’ behaviour had “added to” the trouble.

| Vietnam : Cong - Haiphong - 10/06/2009Source : saigon-gpdaily.com.vn Police used electric batons and tear gas to disperse the visiting Hai Phong supporters. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has decided to ban fans of Hai Phong, the football club that signed Brazilian 2002 World Cup winner Denilson in the beginning of June, from attending any away match. The ban is effective for an indefinite period, VFF said. The reason for the decision, which the football governing body announced on June 12, was the northern club’s fans have repeatedly caused “public disorder” during the club’s away matches. VFF reports said so far this football season, Hai Phong fans have caused “serious” disorder during six matches, including the latest, where Hai Phong played The Cong in Hanoi on June 10. VFF president Nguyen Trong Hy said, “Before making this decision, we read our reports again, seeing that since the beginning of this 2009 season, Hai Phong fans have caused disorder six times at both home and guest stadiums. They are generating vey bad impressions on football fans nationwide.” “VFF and its Discipline Panel will only re-consider the ban if Hai Phong fans raise their awareness of discipline in the coming time.” “The ban is very harsh, and I expect to see positive changes from Hai Phong fans,” he added. Hai Phong Club managing director Do Dai Duong said, “Our team will lose spiritually strong support from the spectators. Some spectators have broken the rules of the league organizers, but those are merely some extremists while the others, who are majority, are not like that.” The club’s executive added, “I expect that those extremist fans would change their thinking and show right behavior so that VFF may lift up the ban soon.” | |

At the Petro Vietnam Gas V-League, hosts Hai Phong Cement received a penalty of VND20 million (US$1,120) for fans throwing bottles during a match against SHB Da Nang on June 6. Trouble was blamed on the non-appearance of the team’s new signing, the former Brazil player Denilson. Fan’s of Dong Thap Rubber also threw bottles at a game against Hoang Anh Gia Lai at the Dong Thap stadium, the team was penalized VND15 million ($840). | Nine identified in Saints' crowd trouble probe - 12/06/2009
Source : dailyecho.co.uk
ALL but two of the 11 Saints fans who police want to speak to in connection with crowd trouble have been identified.
Following the release of 11 photos of people police want to question as part of an investigation into missile throwing and disorder at this year’s Southampton home match against Burnley two more people have now been identified bringing the total to nine out of the eleven.
A 40-year old man from man from Hythe contacted police after recognising himself in the photos and a 38-year-old man from Totton also came forward after seeing himself in the pictures. Of the nine now identified five people have been arrested.
The photos were made public on, Tuesday, June 9. The first of the suspects, who is aged 14, came forward himself after seeing his photo in the media. The 14 year old was arrested and later released on bail until July 15.
James Smith, 18, from Collett Close, Hedge End was arrested and has now been charged with throwing a missile at a spectators area under the Football Act 1991. He is due to appear before Southampton Magistrates on June 26.
Another 18-year old was also arrested and given a caution.
A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested and have been given a type of juvenile caution.
The other four identified are all due to be interviewed by police next week.
The investigation which has led to the release of 11suspects photos came about after the final whistle at the Championship game on Saturday, April 25, this year when more than 1,500 Southampton fans invaded the pitch and a large group assembled in front of away fans.
A group of Southampton supporters directed abuse at Burnley fans and objects were thrown into the away end.

| Football yob challenged 2000 rival fans to fight - 14/06/2009
Source : sundaymail.co.uk
A FOOTBALL yob who challenged a full end of rival fans to a fight has been slammed by a sheriff.
Teen thug Andrew Boyle leaped a barrier into a segregation area at a derby cup tie and bawled: "Come on you b******s, I will f****** take you on."
Ayr United fan Boyle, 16, threw down the gauntlet after watching keeper Stephen Grindlay save a vital penalty from Kilmarnock's Allan Russell in the Homecoming Scottish Cup at Somerset Park.
Police immediately arrested Boyle and marched him from the ground.
A police source said: "It is as well for him that he was lifted so quickly.
"If the Killie fans had got to him before we did, I dread to think what would have happened.
"We made a number of arrests that day, before and after the game and inside and outside the ground."
Boyle earlier admitted shouting, swearing and challenging the Killie fans to fight at Ayr Sheriff Court. There were at least 2000 away supporters on the terracing.
His solicitor Tony Currie said: "This was not premeditated and certainly there was a lot of emotion running high at that game."
But Sheriff John Montgomery told the teenager: "It is a very serious breach of the peace.
"For all you knew, the Kilmarnock fans could have reacted and there could have been violence."
Boyle, of Ayr, was sentenced to 150 hours' community service.
The third round game in January finished a 2-2 draw but Kilmarnock went on to win the replay.

| Football fans arrested for Scottish Cup final day brawl - 18/06/2009
Source : Scottish Daily Record
SEVEN football fans have been arrested for brawling at a train station on Scottish Cup final day.
The fight broke out at Stonehaven station last month and involved around 30 men.
Bizarrely while the fight came on the day of the cup final at Hampden between Rangers and Falkirk it is thought to have involved fans of Aberdeen and Dundee.
A police operation saw three men, aged 21, 23 and 26, arrested in Aberdeen today.
Yesterday four men, aged 26, 28, 35 and 38, were arrested in the Dundee area. British Transport Police said the operation was continuing and more arrests were expected.
The men were expected to appear at Stonehaven Sheriff Court in connection with the incident, which happened at around 9pm on May 30.
Inspector Bob Cameron, of British Transport Police who led the operation, said: "We are grateful to our colleagues in Tayside Police and Grampian Police for their assistance during Operation Glazer.
"We believe in the region of 30 men were involved in the disturbance on Saturday May 30 so our operation continues and we expect more arrests."

| TV star Donal MacIntyre beaten up in East Molesey bar in 'Chelsea hooligan revenge attack' - 19/06/2009
Source : Your Local Guardian
TV personality and former undercover reporter Donal MacIntyre has been beaten up in an East Molesey winebar in a suspected revenge attack for his expose on Chelsea football hooligans nine years ago.
MacIntyre, 43, who was the runner up in ITV’s Dancing on Ice competition this year, and his wife Ameera De La Rose, 32, were both attacked by four smartly dressed men in the Cloud 9 bar in Bridge Road on Wednesday evening (June 17).
Mr MacIntyre told the Sun newspaper that when he entered the bar, four men shouted “you grass, you snitch” at him.
He said he was then knocked to the ground and his wife was hurt as she attempted to protect him.
MacIntyre and his wife left the scene, but he later collapsed and was taken to hospital.
He suffered a black eye and a cut to his face, while his wife suffered bruising to her face, arms and legs.
The presenter of the BBC series MacIntyre Undercover told the Sun he believed the assault was connected to his 2000 investigation into the Chelsea Headhunters hooligan gang, which led to the conviction of five men.
He said: “I’ve had kidnapping threats, been assaulted before, had my car trashed and I've had to move many times.
“I'll take those slings and arrows, but it crosses a line when my wife gets caught in the crossfire.
"They were trying to get me, missed me and then got her. She is extremely distressed.”
On Thursday (June 18) a 48-year-old man from Addlestone was arrested on suspicion of assault and was released on bail until Thursday, July 30.

| Argentine: Huracan - Arsenal Sarandi - 21/06/2009Source: Buenos Aires Herald Another bloody football SundayTwo dead in hooligan groups' battleWhat seemed to be a shining Sunday for Huracán after a solid 3-0 victory against Arsenal that put them on the berth of the title, turned out into another dark episode of hooligans' clashes. Two Huracán's hooligan groups clashed during and after the team's game against Arsenal leaving two fatal victims and four wounded who were hospitilized at the J.M Penna Hospital. The battle started during the halftime when the two groups were fighting in the middle of the crowds. Then the clashes reached their peak outside the Huracán' stadium when the ‘barrabravas' (hooligans) met again at Luna street 1500, this time with knives and fire guns. One man was shot in the heart and died while being taken to the hospital, and at least four got severely wounded and taken to the Penna hospital also in the neighbourhood of Parque de los Patricios. Two of the woundeds were 'rescued' by hooligan mattes and ran away the J.M Penna Hospital before the police could identify them. Surprisingly, the third encounter -and the most violent- between hooligans took place at the hospital's front door. There was a shoot out in which a second victim was shot and later died while was under a surgery procedure. One of the two woundeds that remain a the Penna hospital is a woman who was shot in the left leg and ended with fractures in the femur and shinbone. | Hull City: 'Aggressive' City fans banned - 22/06/2009
Source: http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/news/Aggressive-City-fans-banned/article-1094829-detail/article.html
TWO Hull City fans have been given football banning orders after being aggressive towards away fans.
Ryan Albert Gant, 19, of east Hull, became known to the officers who police Hull City home and away games earlier in the season due to his aggressive actions.
In January, he was asked to meet with police and KC Stadium manager John Cooper at the ground and was told to behave or face being banned.
However, last month he continued to act inappropriately and was arrested at the KC Stadium while watching the Tigers take on Stoke City as they battled for points at the bottom of the Premier League.
Gant pleaded guilty to a public order offence at Hull Magistrates' Court and was given the order, preventing him from visiting all English football stadiums for three years.
PC Karl Corcoran, football liaison officer for Humberside Police, said: "After being aggressive towards fans, Gant was ejected by stewards, who he was also aggressive towards.
"Police officers spoke to him and he had a lot off to them, then decided to make a run for it.
"Officers caught up with him and he was arrested.
"He was warned about the repercussions of his actions and he failed to take our advice.
"Had he taken good advice from Mr Cooper he would still be able to watch his team play.
"We don't want people like that at football games spoiling it for the 99 per cent of decent fans."
Paul John Keating, 23, of Hull, has also been given a football banning order after he was arrested at the same game.
The court heard Keating was aggressive towards away fans in a separate incident to Gant.
The ban prevents both men going to any city where the Tigers are playing for two hours before the match and six hours after.
They must not enter an area within one-and-a-half miles of the KC Stadium on match days, between two hours before the game and six hours after it.
Anyone who breaches an order can face imprisonment.
PC Corcoran said several fans have been spoken to this season to prevent authorities having to apply for banning orders.
He said: "We don't mind people being excitable and cheering on their team, that's fine, but we draw the line at provoking away fans and swearing."

| Arrested city fans are in the clear - 24/06/2009
Source : thisisstaffordshire.co.uk
POLICE are taking no further action against 28 Stoke City fans arrested on suspicion of planning to fight with rival Newcastle United yobs. They were arrested five miles from Newcastle's St James' Park ground while a Premier League game was being played between the two teams on December 6. They were quizzed by officers and then bailed until the end of June on suspicion of conspiring to commit violent disorder. Now the men have finally been released without charge after police found no evidence of any offence. A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "A full investigation was conducted after 28 Stoke fans were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder at the Newcastle-Stoke game on December 6. "Following this investigation the decision was taken that no further action would be taken against the 28, as there was no evidence that such an offence had been committed." Police had been called to part of Gateshead by a member of the public after fears hooligans attached to Stoke and Newcastle were planning to meet up. Initially four officers and a police dog were sent to contain City fans, following reports of trouble at a pub and workingmen's club. They were then supported by dozens of officers sent in to try to contain possible trouble. The decision comes days after Stoke fan Lyndon Edwards, of Chesterton, received £2,750 compensation from Greater Manchester Police after the force made him return home before City's game against Manchester United had begun. Now the Football Supporters' Federation is willing to help with any complaint against Northumbria Police lodged by the fans arrested at Newcastle. Chairman Malcolm Clarke said: "If no charges have been brought because of a lack of evidence then you have to ask why were the fans arrested in the first place? "If they want to make a claim or complaint against Northumbria Police, we would certainly help."

| CSKA Sofia fans banned from Litex Lovech - 03/06/2009
Source: http://sofiaecho.com/2009/06/03/729226_cska-sofia-fans-banned-from-litex-lovech
CSKA Sofia supporters have been slapped with a wholesome ban from the northern Bulgarian team Litex Lovech after violence marred the last league match between the two teams. CSKA supporters will not be allowed to attend away matches at Litex Lovech until further notice, the Lovech-based club said in a statement.
The violence was sparked in part because CSKA's hopes of retaining the Bulgarian title were shattered on May 31 when they lost 1-0 to Litex, which meant arch rivals Levski Sofia leapfrogged them to the Bulgarian crown. As a result of the scrap, 27 supporters were arrested during and after the match for hooliganism.
Dozens of CSKA fans invaded the pitch and clashed with riot police during the closing stages of the game following a disallowed goal, causing the match to be held up for several minutes. The visiting fans were hurling bottles and missiles on the pitch, and more running battles were staged outside of the ground after the match.
To add insult to injury, the managing board of CSKA Sofia said it received only one invitation for the crucial international qualifier with Ireland on June 6. The Reds are fuming because they have "two owners and two executive directors" and yet only one invitation was forwarded by the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU).
"The managing board is very insulted by the BFU decision. We have always allowed the national football team to train at CSKA's training grounds in Pancharevo. From now on, if the national team wants to use the Pancharevo base, they will have to pay for it, through their nose" a CSKA statement read, as quoted by Sportal.bg.

| Celtic fan jailed for four years over Old Firm stabbing - 10/06/2009
Source : Daily Record
A CELTIC supporter who repeatedly stabbed a Rangers fan in a "frightening and vicious attack" hours after an Old Firm match was yesterday jailed for four years.
Shaun Duffy, 30, knifed Brian Duncan in Glasgow's Springcroft Bar and Diner.
Duncan was left with serious spinal injuries and still suffers pain, months after the attack.
The High Court in Dunfermline heard that Duffy, an offshore worker, became involved in an argument after bar staff said drinkers entering the pub could not wear football colours.
Brian, his brother Colin and friends had gone to the pub in the city's Baillieston on December 27 last year after watching Rangers lose 1-0 to Celtic at Ibrox that day.
Duffy - a father-of-two - was sitting in the busy bar nearby.
The court was told that the accused and Colin later became involved in a fight.
Brian - who had been playing pool - saw the incident and rushed to help his brother.
But Brian, 37, was pushed to the ground before Duffy pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest and neck.
Simon Bowie, prosecuting, said Brian was unable to stand up after being attacked.
Duffy fled the scene as other drinkers attended to his victim.
Brian lost two litres of blood on the way to hospital and had to be resuscitated.
Doctors believed his injuries were a significant threat to his life. He has been left with a lack of feeling in his fingers and his lower legs.
Mr Bowie added: "He was a keen footballer but is unable to do that and does not now socialise."
Duffy handed himself in to police weeks after the incident.
The court was told he had previous convictions for football-related violence and served three years in jail for a previous assault to the danger of a victim's life.
Duffy, of Borthwick Street, Garthamlock, Glasgow, admitted assaulting Brian to the danger of his life.
Tony Graham, defending, said: "There's no situation where this sort of violence can be tolerated by society.
"He is a man who can remain free of intoxicants when working offshore but succumbs to alcohol abuse when on shore leave.
"He was in a pub, he was drunk and something that started as a minor argument escalated and he offers no excuse for that."
Imposing the jail term, judge Lord Woolman said the attack was "life-threatening".
He said: "You carried out a frightening and vicious attack on Brian Duncan. It is only chance you do not face a charge of murder.
"You have 11 previous convictions - five for breach of the peace, one football-related and a 2005 conviction for an assault with a bottle.
"Your victim required emergency treatment and lost two litres of blood - this was life-threatening.
"If you had been convicted after trial, you would have had six years in prison - but as you pled guilty the sentence will be four years."
Duffy smiled at supporters on the public benches as he was led to the cells.
