Shamrock Rovers - Bohemians Dublin - 23/05/2009

Source: http://www.tribune.ie/news/article/2009/may/24/riot-squad-called-in-as-rovers-and-bohemians-fans-/

Riot squad called in as Rovers and Bohemians fans clash

Gardaí from across Dublin were called to deal with a riot involving around 100 football supporters before a high-profile League of Ireland fixture last Saturday.

The riot squad was sent to deal with the fans of Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians after they clashed close to Rovers' Tallaght ground at around 7pm last Saturday.

Gardaí said a large group of Bohemians fans went to Tallaght on the Luas and clashed with dozens of Rovers fans near the stadium, with scuffles and bottles being thrown. Four people arrested for public order offences.

Gardaí said they were concerned that many of those involved had travelled over from Glasgow and Cardiff intent on causing trouble.

Gardaí from across the city rushed to help local gardaí in Tallaght who were struggling to separate the two groups of rival fans.

Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and the FAI all gave differing accounts of the incident.

A spokesman for Shamrock Rovers said a group of between 100 and 150 rival Bohemians fans descended on the Tallaght ground without match tickets and that the club's fans had no known involvement.

"From my understanding a group of Bohemians supporters made their presence felt and the guards did their job," he said.

However, according to Bohemians, gardaí had to form a line between the rival fans after a group of up to 60 of their supporters encountered Shamrock Rovers fans who had come out of a nearby hotel.

"Our fans came down from the Luas station; there would have been about 50 or 60," he said. "The Rovers fans were in the hotel across the road from the ground. They heard the Bohemian fans and they came out and there was a line of guards in the middle. There was a bottle thrown and it hit a Bohemians fan but he wasn't hurt, thankfully.

Joe McGlue, chief security officer for the FAI said: "The fixture passed off without any major incidents either inside or outside the stadium." He explained that a "potential incident" on the Belgard Road was averted thanks to the efforts of gardaí.

"There was an attempt to clash by a small amount of individuals related to both clubs on the Belgard Road [but] this was dealt with within seconds by members of An Garda Síochána. The Belgard Road is a good distance from the stadium," he said in a statement.

Standard Liège - RSC Anderlecht - Test match - 24/05/2009

Source: mail (thanks to the sender) - Anderlecht

About 200 lads met up in Tongeren. We waited there for 5 hours with the aim to have a maximum of people.

Phonecalls exchanged with local Hell-Side but they refused to move to a "no risk" location; they only accepted something near the Liège train sation.
We leaved our spot, we stopped on the highway before the exit but immediately police vans arrived and police charged us.
About 20-25 arrests on our side.

No off possible with Standard because they refused to move.

TWO people have been arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a 75-year-old Iron fan by suspected Millwall hooligans at Wembley.

London's Metropolitan Police said officers made the arrests following Scunthorpe's 3-2 win over Millwall in the League One Play-off Final on Sunday.

It is alleged the pensioner was trying to board his coach after the game when he was assaulted by rival supporters.

A bus driver stepped in to help, but he was also allegedly assaulted.

A police spokeswoman said: "Six Millwall fans were arrested after the game against Scunthorpe, two of them for assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Three others were arrested for breach of public order offences and the sixth for breaching a previous football banning order."

Manchester United - Barcelona - Champions League final played in Rome - 27/05/2009

Source : CCTV.com

Manchester United fans arrested

Manchester United and Barcelona supporters celebrated on the eve of the Champions League final, apparently a little too heavily though. Two fans were arrested by the Italian police on Tuesday in Rome.

Large groups of supporters crowded into the centre of the Italian capital, to party and have a good time ahead of the match. Supporters of the two clubs congregated in separate areas.

At least two fans were arrested by police after a small fight broke out in the Campo dei Fiori square where a large crowd of Manchester United fans had congregated. It's believed that the fighting did not involve any Barcelona supporters.

Trouble In Rome, Manchester United Fans Arrested - Report

The first signs of trouble have surfaced in Rome as two United fans become drunk, fight and spend the night in a cell...

Two drunk Manchester United fans have been arrested in Rome for allegedly assaulting police officers in a bar in Piazza Campo de Fiori.

According to Il Corriere Dello Sport, the incident happened late on Tuesday night when the owner of a bar called the authorities after the two men began to cause trouble by disturbing other drinkers.

What followed was sheer madness as a 19-year-old, and 45-year-old man began to kick and punch the officers, inflicting various injuries on them.

The pair were drunk at the time of the trouble and they were arrested. They are accused of resisting arrest, and assaulting public officials.

The officers needed hospital treatment, but their injuries are not thought to be serious. It's not a good sign for authorities, who had promised a trouble-free final. An alcohol ban is in place, but reports suggest it is not being followed and the latest incident seems to back those claims.

10,000 Italian police wait for United fans

A security operation involving 10,000 Italian police officers is underway as Rome prepares for the arrival of 50,000 football fans ahead of tonight's Champions League Final between Manchester United and Barcelona.

More than 30,000 United fans have made the trip to Italy, despite the club only being allocated 19,500 tickets.

This evening's final comes two weeks after rioting in Rome following the local side Lazio's domestic cup triumph. The authorities fear that fans of the city's other team, Roma, whose notorious hooligans are known as the Ultras, will cause trouble. Violence flared between the Ultras and United fans on the last two occasions the English side visited the city. A ban restricting the sale of alcohol in central Rome has been enforced. Rome's Mayor, Gianni Alemanno, said: "Rome welcomes the British fans with open arms, and we look forward to celebrating this sporting festival together," he said.

But the Foreign Office warned Manchester United fans to stay away from known trouble spots. Duncan Drasdo, the chief executive of the Manchester United Supporters' Trust, said: "My experience of the Italian police, particularly in Rome, is pretty poor."

Italian officers will be able to call on the assistance of British counterparts.

Two people have been stabbed in the run-up to tonight's Champions League final in Rome. A British Manchester United fan was attacked by a group and stabbed in the thigh and side. An American tourist, thought by his attackers to be English, was also beaten and stabbed by four Italians who were later arrested.

Local police are investigating what led to the attacks. The final between Barcelona and Manchester United is being played this evening at Rome's Olympic Stadium.

Two United fans were arrested for assaulting bystanders and police in Campo de Fiori, a historic piazza and popular tourist hangout. Police said the men were drunk despite a ban on alcohol sales imposed by authorities in areas including the city center and near the stadium.
