Police tackle trouble at Ilkeston Town clash
TWO people were arrested for public order offences during a police operation at Ilkeston Town's match at the weekend.
Derbyshire police said "about half a dozen" Town supporters were also removed from the club's New Manor Ground during the Northern Premier Division clash with FC United of Manchester on Saturday.
A force spokesman added: "Officers escorted away fans who were in coaches and on foot. Several pubs closed in the run-up to the match.
"Fans were kept apart during the game by a segregation system arranged before the match by police and officials of the club."
The game itself ended in a 1-0 victory for FC United, with the winning goal coming in the last minute.

Source: http://t.love.com/204500712
Police have detained seven more suspects involved in the Kelantan football riot at the Sultan Muhammad IV stadium last week, raising the total number of detainees to 16.
Kelantan Police Chief SAC I Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the 16 fans arrested, believed to be involved in the riot that was triggered after Kelantan lost 0-1 to Negeri Sembilan in an FA Cup match, included a teacher and students.
"We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and assist the police in the investigations," he told reporters after opening a programme on discipline at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan, Sultan Ismail here today.
Abdul Rahim said police would continue their investigations and hope to make a few arrests to help solve the case.
During the April 7 incident, 10 vehicles, including that of Kelantan FA president Tan Sri Annuar Musa, were damaged by rioting fans while a police car was set on fire.
In the incident, a student also lost his right eye, after allegedly being hit by an unidentified object when police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Abdul Rahim said all men, aged between 15 and 32 would be investigated under Section 148, 332 and 435 of the Penal Code and if convicted, face fine or jail.
He added that in future, police would beef up security at the stadium (inside and outside) when matches are played at the Sultan Muhamed IV stadium.

| Ipswich - Norwich City - 19/04/2009Source : East Anglian Daily Times Seven people arrested at derby matchSUFFOLK police have thanked fans of both teams following yesterday'sEast Anglian derby - with just seven people arrested. About 300 police officers were on duty for one of the county's biggest policing operations this year which had been in the planning since before Christmas. As well as those arrested, 13 people - all Town fans apart from one Norwich City fan - where ejected from the ground. The majority of these were by the club for people smoking inside Portman Road. Superintendent John Everett, match commander, said: “There was always going to be an edge because of the result factor and obviously Ipswich where looking for a win and Norwich do not want to be relegated. “That is on top of the normal competitive edge with the derby atmosphere. I would thank the fans for taking the advice and our requests to behave and act responsibly. It is a very small minority who allowed their emotions to boil over and get themselves into trouble and be arrested.” Norwich City fans who travelled to the game by coach and train were met at Ipswich Railway Station by police officers who escorted them to Portman Road. The same process was reversed following the match. Police also thanked Canaries fans for their “patience” after their train was delayed for an hour due to signalling problems. The fans were allowed off the train and water was handed out to them. Supt Everett said: “When you look at it being a capacity crowd and what was riding on the game and the end result as far as Norwich is concerned, from a policing perspective it passed off extremely well. I would like to thank both clubs for their involvement and support.” ************************************************** Source : Norwich Evening News Coin throwing claims following East Anglian derbyNorwich City football fans have claimed Ipswich supporters threw coins and spat at them during the East Anglian derby on Sunday. Canaries' fan Matt Crowhurst, said one of the attacks was aimed at his 10-year-old daughter Rebecca while they waited to get out of the Portman Road ground, while other Norwich fans have said they too witnessed bad behaviour from the Tractor Boys. Bosses at Ipswich Town Football Club claim they have had no reports of any problems, but at the match 12 Ipswich fans and one Norwich fan were ejected from the ground and following the game several were arrested including a 16-year-old boy and 61-year-old man. Mr Crowhurst, a 35-year-old father of two, said he was “disgusted” by the attitude and behaviour of many Ipswich fans. He said Ipswich supporters waited for Norwich fans, who were kept in the ground by police after the game, and started shouting abuse, throwing coins and spitting as the Norwich fans then made their way from the stadium. The teacher, who lives in Three Score in Bowthorpe, said: “The Ipswich supporters spat at us and Rebecca was really scared. She had been loosely gripping my hand but then was holding it really tight because she was frightened.” Messages have since been posted by several fans on message boards, including the Evening News sister paper the Pink Un's website, including one from a member called Ren, who stated: “There was a kid on my train back that must have been about 10 who had been hit by a coin thrown after the game.” But Ipswich fans have today claimed Norwich supporters are not purely innocent. An Ipswich fan, who did not want to be named, said: “Norwich fans on Sunday were not innocent and when we go to Carrow Road, they are far from angels to us.” Suffolk Police said they only have one crime logged during the match when a seven-year-old boy was struck in the face by an object, but they said he was sitting in the North Stand which is for Ipswich supporters. However, Suffolk Police spokeswoman Louise Rosher confirmed there had been several people arrested and charged for Section 5 Public Order offences which include threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour. Aaron Osman, 25, of Wicklow Road, Ipswich, and David Osman, 35, of Riverside Road, Ipswich, are accused of public order breaches. Osman was also arrested for obstructing, or resisting, a police officer. The pair were apprehended inside the ground at 1.55pm. Andrew Flory, 43, of Kerry Avenue, Ipswich, is accused of being drunk when entering a sports ground. Thomas Baker, 22, of Beechcroft Road, Ipswich, will have to face South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court after being charged with a public order offence, following his arrest at 3.10pm in Princes Street. And Thomas Pryke, 26, of La Salle Close, Ipswich, who was arrested in Portman Road at 2.50pm and the 16-year-old youth, who was arrested in Princes Street at 3.35pm, also face public order charges. A spokesman for Norwich City Football Club said: “We've not received any formal complaints of coins being thrown following our derby match away at Ipswich Town on Sunday. If we do receive any such complaints we will forward them to Ipswich Town Football Club and or Suffolk Constabulary as appropriate.” | |

| Juve punished over racial abuse - 20/04/2009
Source : BBC Sport
Juventus have been ordered to play a home game behind closed doors after their fans racially abused Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli at the weekend.
The 18-year-old scored Inter's goal in the 1-1 Serie A draw and was taunted by sections of the Juve crowd in Turin.
The Italy under-21 international was born in Palermo, Sicily, but is of Ghanaian descent.
The Italian League is likely to bar fans from Juve's home game against Lecce on 3 May.
Italian clubs have previously been punished by fines following incidents of racist abuse.
However, the abuse suffered by Balotelli on Saturday prompted league officials to come down heavily on Juventus.
Club president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has apologised to Balotelli and said Serie A had to end the culture of racism among fans.

| UK: CCTV appeal over derby disorder - 20/04/2009Source : BBC News Police have released CCTV images of five men they want to trace over disorder at the last Tyne-Wear derby.About 20 people were arrested when trouble flared during and after the match between Newcastle and Sunderland at St James' Park on 1 February. Officers said a hardcore of hooligans were responsible for disorder at the stadium and the city's central station. Anyone who recognises any of the men in the CCTV images should contact Northumbria Police. Det Sgt Jane McLean said: "Since the derby game we've worked hard to identify several people involved in disorder following the game and we're taking action against these people. "Fans who get involved in disorder before, during or after games spoil it for the real supporters and we just won't tolerate this sort of violent or disorderly behaviour. "I'd ask anyone who has any information about the men in these photographs to contact us as soon as possible." | |

| UK: Fans avoid bans for derby-day pitch invasion - 22/04/2009Source : Shields Gazette TWO fans who invaded the pitch at the Sunderland-Newcastle derby have escaped football banning orders. Anthony Richard Barrass and Andrew Robert Lawson both pleaded guilty at Sunderland Magistrates' Court to running on to the pitch at the Stadium of Light. They were arrested in separate incidents following the game on October 25 last year, which the Black Cats won 2-1 - their first home victory over the Magpies for 28 years. Claire Ward, prosecuting, described how Barrass, 40, was apprehended by two stewards after the final whistle had blown. Nick Musgrove, defending, said Barrass, of Manet Gardens, Whiteleas, South Shields, had been a season ticket holder for nine years. He said he has never been in any trouble, and committed the offence "in sheer jubilation that Sunderland had finally beaten Newcastle". In the second case, Miss Ward said Lawson, 30, was also seized by stewards after going on to the playing surface. Lawson initially said in interview he had been pushed on to the edge of the pitch by surging fans, and had not run onto the grass, but CCTV stills clearly showed him on the field. Miss Ward added that Lawson, of Gordon Terrace, Sunderland, had previous convictions for battery, being drunk and disorderly, and resisting a police officer. Speaking in his defence, Mr Musgrove said Lawson now accepted he was on the pitch, but had not been involved in any violence. He added that none of his client's previous convictions were football-related. Magistrates imposed 18-month conditional discharges on both men, and ordered they each pay £60 court costs. Applications for football banning orders by the prosecution were refused. | |

| Cyprus: Strict police security ahead of tonight’s big match - 25/04/2009
Source : Cyprus Mail
POLICE are planning extensive measures to stop hooliganism ahead of tonight’s big match between Anorthosis Famagusta and APOEL.
Taking place at Larnaca’s Antonis Papadopoulos stadium and kicking off at 7pm, the hotly contested game could lead to APOEL taking the Cypriot championship.
The gates to the stadium will be opened to the public from 4.30pm in order to provide ample time for supporters to make their way to the stands in a steady and incident-free manner.
The two teams’ supporters clubs have been working together to ensure minimal likelihood for supporters finding themselves in any kind of position that could provoke a confrontation, with specific areas both inside and outside the stadium being allocated to each one.
The visiting supporters of APOEL have been allotted 2,500 tickets exclusively for the southern stand, while the home supporters of Anorthosis will be seated on the northern, western and eastern stands of the stadium.
A segment of seats that are located between the western and southern stands will be left empty, creating a type of ‘buffer zone’ between the opposing sides’ fans.
Additionally, police have released specific instructions to both clubs to be disseminated to their respective supporters. APOEL fans have been instructed to use Papanicolis Avenue for both their approach and departure from the stadium, while supporters of Anorthosis using the northern and western stands have been called to use Lisou Santama Avenue and the roads leading from Kokkines and ‘Aktipitos’.
Home fans who will be occupying the eastern stand should travel to and from the stadium using the side roads of the Ayios Anargiron refugee estate. Papanicolis Avenue will be closed at the point where it joins Lisou Santama up to its intersection with Ayias Theklas street, from 4.30pm up until the last remnants of the visiting supporters have passed through it following the end of the match. To avoid any possibility of vandalism, the stadium’s parking lot will not be open to private vehicles.
Despite a relatively peaceful record of previous meetings that the two teams have traditionally enjoyed, police are taking no chances in ensuring a peaceful match. Authorities have stressed that a zero-tolerance policy will be in effect towards any attempts to smuggle flares, firecrackers and other dangerous items into the stadium, while displays of a political, chauvinistic or indecent nature are also forbidden.
The hard line adopted by the police follows an especially turbulent year in the world of Cypriot football, with clashes between fans increasingly assuming both political and territorial overtones. However, the police do also stress that their strong presence at the match is to ensure that the vast majority of fans who are peaceful and there to enjoy the game are not affected by the minority of hooligans that have been observed to instigate trouble in the past.
Evidence of the police’s heightened sensitivity at sporting events taking place close to the end of the season could also be seen from their unsparing approach to a volleyball game held last night between Anorthosis and Omonoia.
The match, held at Larnaca’s Kition stadium, witnessed similar measures being employed in order to minimise the two groups of fans’ coming into contact with each other.

Heavy riots between Beerschot hooligans and local immigrants 2 hours after the game. Situation started around midnight and lasted till 02h30.
Last week in Lokeren before the game, there were also fights between Beerschot lads and immigrants.
***********************************
Around midnight a small group went to their cars and got attacked by Arab immigrants. Beerschot stood their ground, but got outnumbered quick and one of us got stabbed in the arm. So back to the pub. Than a mob of 60 Beerschot went on the attack. Everything escalated soon because there was barely any police left. Riots continued for about two hours! Constant fighting everywhere. Stones and street tiles were flying around all the time. On the immigrants side knives and other weapons were used In the end Beerschot had to retreat because of the immigrants' big numbers and use of weapons.
Only 7 people got arrested. 4 lads, 3 immigrants. Lot of people wounded. 20 cars and 4 police vans got damaged in the mayhem.
