| Uefa has blamed Liverpool fans - 24/05/2007Source : forum Uefa has blamed Liverpool fans for the problems before Wednesday's Champions League final against AC Milan. Riot police in Athens used tear gas and batons outside the Olympic Stadium as fans were turned away because they were told the stadium was already full. Uefa spokesman William Gaillard said: "The behaviour of the Liverpool fans is in the end responsible for the problems that took place before the game." The British Embassy in Athens vowed to take up the matter. The game ended in a 2-1 defeat for Liverpool at the hands of Italian side AC Milan, but many Liverpool fans with tickets did not get to see the game. Disorder broke out before kick-off when fans were held back because of congestion outside the ground. Police told fans going through the penultimate checkpoint to slow down or even stop moving, then riot police formed a line to stop other fans joining queues to move through the checkpoint. They were then told they would not be allowed in as the ground was full because fans with forged tickets, or without tickets at all, had managed to get past security. Gaillard told BBC Radio Five Live: "The behaviour of the supporters before the game made it extremely difficult for the police who didn't want to use brutal methods and they have to be praised for that. "To control the fact that so many fake tickets were around as we warned but this was all done in Britain." Former Conservative leader Michael Howard was at the game and he said: "I didn't think the match should have been held at the stadium. "It's not a football stadium and is not equipped to cope with that number of people. "Ticket checks were a joke. Many people with valid tickets were not allowed in. "That is not acceptable and Uefa really need to look at their procedures and make sure everything is all in order. "As far as I'm aware no-one was hurt, and that's a mercy, but it's no thanks to the Greek authorities, and I'm afraid there was a large measure of incompetence." But Gaillard responded: "It is very easy to say it is not a suitable stadium, coming from the man that invented the poll tax. "The Milan supporters didn't face the same problems because they didn't behave in the same way. The kind of pushing that was going on and the attempts to jump over barriers - imagine if we had turnstiles, we could have had a tragedy. "More than three hours before the game there were incidents at the Liverpool end with people trying to get in either with fake tickets or jumping over the barriers. "It is obvious that at one point the police felt overwhelmed and it is much to their credit there were no dangerous incidents. "I am very sorry for what happened to fans who had regular tickets but at the same time there is a collective responsibility in terms of behaviour. "This area was all for Liverpool fans and the bulk were obviously extremely honest people who had got tickets in the right way and observed the rules. "But unfortunately because of a minority who did not they found themselves in a very uncomfortable and unpleasant position." Gaillard defended Uefa against any responsibility for the problems, adding: "The only responsibility we could have is that we did not choose a stadium with 250,000 seats, but unfortunately they do not exist." ******************************************************************************* Source : protv VIDEO : http://www.protv.ro/filme/haos-pe-strazile-atenei-dupa-finala-champions-league.html?id_file=20454#20454 ****************************************************************************************** Riot in Milan

| The Nederlands - Maroco (friendly) - 22/05/2007 played in Tilburg.source: forums + Dumpert + BBC Sport Dutch police arrest Morocco fansDutch police have arrested 26 football fans, some of them Moroccans, during an under-21 international friendly between the Netherlands and Morocco. Hooligans hurling seats and bottles injured several stewards during Tuesday's game in Tilburg. Authorities in the city declared a state of emergency, which allowed police to block supporters from heading downtown after the match. Instead, most were put on buses and taken directly to the city's rail station. Henk Kesler, chief of the Dutch Football Federation, said he would not book any new matches between the Netherlands and Morocco and was considering a five-year ban. The stewards were slightly injured when Moroccan supporters threw objects down from the stands, police said in a statement Wednesday. The match, which Morocco won 2-0, had to be stopped twice in the second half when Moroccan fans ran onto the pitch. After the final whistle, dozens of supporters stormed the field. "More than 100 officers were deployed to restore order," police said in a statement. The violence came just weeks before the Netherlands is due to host the European Championships for under-21 teams. Netherlands coach Foppe de Haan said he was shocked by the violence. "We have to learn lessons from this," De Haan said. "When some Moroccans got onto the pitch in the first half I wondered what was happening. We cannot accept this or the events after the match." Many youths of Moroccan descent live in poor neighbourhoods of Dutch cities, where high unemployment and crime are rampant. | |

| 43-year ban for hooligans - 22/05/2007
Source : Express & Star
Ten Wolves and Albion football hooligans have been banned from games for a total of 43 years for “disgraceful” match-day violence outside a Black Country pub.
Three men were jailed over the pre-arranged brawl involving up to 30 yobs outside The Frying Pan pub in Darlaston.
A judge said the trouble could be a sign that football-related trouble was enjoying a resurgence. The fight was said to have been organised over the phone, with the threat of vandalism against one of the gang’s houses if it did not happen.
Albion hooligans descended on the pub on the evening of January 2 last year – the day the Baggies played Aston Villa and Wolves were away to Coventry.
Police footage of the battle was shown to Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday, which was told that sticks, a spanner, a screwdriver, chisel and plank of wood with a screw sticking out of it were discarded at the scene.
One person was injured and at least two others were sprayed with CS gas by a rival hooligan.
Albion fans James Wiles, John Lloyd and Karl Rosewarne admitted violent disorder, while John Ritchie, Robert Bernard, Jason Lloyd and security guard John Poole pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of affray.
Wolves louts Gilroy Shaw, Richard Kent and Luke Wildman also admitted their part in the trouble. All three were given three-year banning orders, while Shaw aged 38, of Selwyn Road, Walsall, was given a three-month prison sentence suspended for two years.
Miss Jane Sarginson, prosecuting, said Wolves and Albion hooligans had taken the bus or taxis to the Bilston Street pub at around 8pm.
She said John Lloyd, 45, who now lives in Spain, was at the forefront of the trouble. Lloyd, who was with his 21-year-old son Jason, was said to have traded blows with notorious Wolves hooligan Shaw before himself being struck by a Pc’s baton.
Recorder Mr Patrick Thomas QC said the violence was “perfectly disgraceful”. He told the Albion fans that some of them appeared to show an “enjoyment of acts of violence”.
The recorder said: “It’s clear to me that this was a pre-arranged incident. The public is entitled to the support of the courts in trying to stop this kind of event taking place ever again.”
These are the West Bromwich Albion yobs who appeared in the dock at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday – along with details of their punishments and previous convictions.
John Ritchie, aged 26, of Carisbrooke Road, Wednesbury: Has previous convictions for assault, GBH and a football-related affray last year. He was given a curfew for four months, meaning he must stay at home between 8pm and 7am. Given a four-year banning order.
Robert Bernard, aged 42, of Phoenix Rise, Wednesbury: Shouted “later, later” to Wolves fans earlier in the day. Three previous convictions. Given 80 hours unpaid community work over the next year and a four-year banning order
Jason Lloyd, aged 21, of Leicester: Previous public order conviction for his role in “large-scale disorder”. Handed 80 hours unpaid community work, three-month curfew meaning he must stay at home between 9pm and 7am, and four-year banning order.
Now studying for a degree at university in Leicester and hoping for a career in journalism. The Recorder told him: “You are trying to make something really decent out of your life. You could very well have served your first short sentence of imprisonment.”
James Wiles, aged 20, of Hall Street, Darlaston: Previous conviction in 2004 for “large-scale disorder” related to a Baggies vs Cardiff city match. Kicked out during the Frying Pan trouble. Given 12 months in a young offenders’ institute and a six-year banning order.
John Lloyd, aged 45, now lives in Spain: Numerous convictions going back to the 1970s including assault, handling stolen goods, drink-driving and perverting the course of justice. He was jailed for 18 months and given a six-year football banning order.
The Recorder told him: “Your responsibility is the greatest.”
John Poole, aged 24, of Simmons Drive, Quinton, Birmingham: No previous convictions. Given 40 hours of unpaid community work, four-year banning order and £200 costs. Has served with the military in Kosovo and Iraq.
The Recorder told him: “You have served your country well. You are plainly a man who has a large amount to offer and you nearly threw all of that away by getting yourself into this trouble.”
Karl Rosewarne, aged 38, of Georgian Gardens, Wednesbury – No previous convictions. Threw punches during the trouble. Given nine months jail and six year banning order
Recorder Mr Patrick Thomas QC told the men: “What you were involved in is public disorder of a significant kind, from which the public is entitled to receive and will receive from this court, protection.”
He praised police for their quick intervention.

| Racist England football fans start jail sentence - 25/05/2007
Source : Daily Mail
Three football fans who launched an horrific racist attack after England lost to Portugal in the World Cup were today starting jail terms after their brutality was caught on CCTV.
Dean Bayliss, 26, Marc Kemp, 22, and Terry Zacharides, 27, went hunting for someone to assault minutes after watching England's defeat on television.
The trio were among a gang of around 12 who rounded on 22 year old Gurmeet Singh, in a car park, claiming he was a Portugal fan.
Despite Mr Singh's pleas that he was an avid England supporter and had been cheering on the team himself, the thugs launched a sickening, drink-fuelled attack.
The racist yobs, many barechested, draped in St George flags or wearing England shirts, knocked him out with a flurry of kicks and punches.
Even when Mr Singh was lying unconscious on the ground, members of the gang returned to kick his prone body, spat on him and hurled a lit cigarette at him.
Bayliss, Kemp and Zacharides were arrested after the savage assault in Southampton, Hants, was captured by close circuit television cameras on July 1 last year.
The trio pleaded guilty to violent disorder. Judge John Boggis QC, sitting at Southampton Crown Court, ruled it had been racially motivated - which they had denied.
He jailed Bayliss for 22 months and Kemp and Zacharides for 20 months each.
Sentencing them, Judge Boggis said the trio had shouted obscenities at the victim who tried to assure them 'he was just as much an England supporter but it didn't make a blind bit of difference'.
He added: "Bare-chested and shaven-headed - you are the unacceptable face of football hooliganism.
"You were drunken louts out looking for violence. The CCTV images were truly shocking to decent members of the public - it was wholly unacceptable, ugly and violent."
Mr Singh had been walking home after watching the quarter-final defeat, which ended England's World Cup campaign, on a big screen in Southampton.
He and his brother-in-law Dr Inderjit Mandair were rounded on by the angry mob as they crossed a nearby car park.
Southampton Crown Court was played 30 seconds of footage from security cameras which showed Zacharides throwing the first punch, then the gang attacking their victim without mercy.
Mr Singh, who miraculously escaped serious injury, told the court of his feelings after the game: "I am an England supporter.
"I was more disappointed than anyone else in the world."
Prosecutor Richard Willcox said the assault was racially motivated: "They were out to get anyone who looked as though they were Portuguese.
"They were bent on revenge. There can be no other motive." The trio denied using racist abuse and being racist.
Kemp said: "I got involved because I had drunk too much and acted very stupidly.
I am disgusted with myself." Bayliss said: "At the time I was on medication for anxiety and depression."
Asking why he had got involved, Zacharides said: "I can't say. There was a lot of pushing and shoving.
"Someone came towards me and I panicked."
Mr Wilcox told the court Bayliss, of The Wallow, Holbury, near Southampton, Kemp, of Charnwood Way, Blackfield, near Southampton and Zacharides, of Whitefield Way, Holbury, would all be given football banning orders.
After the case, Det Sgt Bob Cooper said: "This was a savage and unprovoked attack on a wholly innocent man.
"Thankfully he didn't suffer serious injuries. He could have been critically injury, he could have been killed."
Not all Mr Singh's attackers were caught. One thug in a red shirt who kicked and punched Mr Singh several times has never been arrested.
Despite appeals in the local media and on BBC's Crimewatch programme, police have not been able to identify him, and he remains at large.
Mr Singh said the barbaric attack had left him afraid to walk the streets of his home city at night.
Mr Singh, who came to England from India three years ago to marry, added that he had never encountered such shocking racism.
Talking about England's defeat to Portugal on penalties, he said: "I bite my nails when I support the England football team.
"I felt the tension when Rooney was sent off. The people who did this are low-life troublemakers. They are not good for society.
"They are a worrying minority. "I felt shocked and afraid and I am too scared to go out after watching a football game.
"I avoid crowds and will wait in the pub until the roads are clear."
Describing the evening of the attack, he said: "I was on my way home with my brother-in-law.
"I was in the car park when I heard a bloke shouting from behind. He was shouting racial abuse and coming closer towards me.
"Me and my brother-in-law kept saying 'We are English fans'.
"I remember lots of men coming towards me and me repeating 'I am an English fan'.
"They were pushing me. I dropped my mobile phone and at the same time they were kicking me.
"I recognised one of them from my last job as a security officer and said 'You know me'.
"But he kicked me and punched me while I was down."
Mr Singh said he was knocked unconscious for several minutes and the next thing he remembers is waking up in the back of an ambulance.

| Fighting fan banned for four years - 24/05/2007
Source : ic Huddersfield A SOCCER hooligan involved in a fracas during a Huddersfield Town match has been banned from all football games for four years.
Jamie Ward-Lomax, of Hall Cross Road, Lowerhouses, was arrested at the Galpharm Stadium on March 10 after a fight broke out during the derby between Town and Bradford City.
Ward-Lomax, 25, shaven- headed and with a tattooed arm, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct when he appeared before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.
The court heard that the disturbance began minutes before the end of the match, as fans began to leave.
Police said Lomax was seen shouting at Bradford fans and trying to entice them into a fight as he ran towards the exit of the Lawrence Batley Stand. Lomax yelled: `Come on, let's have you!', while trying to push younger Huddersfield fans out of the door.
Jonathan Slavinski said in mitigation that the atmosphere of the derby had been fuelled with animosity between both sets of fans.
He said the problem arose when his client became frustrated when a steward would not let him and others leave after the match.
He added: "He was shouting and swearing, which was quite clearly inappropriate, but he wasn't pushing anybody or enticing them to fight.
"He's a young man who on that occasion accepts he got upset. The effect of this on him has been quite dramatic.
"He accepts his days at football matches are over.
"He's got a family to look after. He is the sole breadwinner and he knows he should grow up and accept responsibility."
Ward-Lomax's four-year ban means he will be unable to go to any regulated football matches in England and Wales.
He will also be barred from going to certain games outside the country and have to surrender his passport on such occasions.
Ward-Lomax was also ordered to pay a £150 fine and £43 costs.
* A second man involved in the same disturbance is due to appear in court.
Andrew Power, of Highfield, Holmfirth, will appear before Huddersfield magistrates on June 5 charged with a public order offence.

| A Liverpool fan gives an eyewitness account of the chaos outside Athens' Olympic Stadium - 25/05/2007
Source : forum
Syntagma Square in Athens was awash with red in the hours preceding this year's Champions League final, mirroring the colour and pride that was similarly in evidence in Taksim Square prior to the 2005 final in Istanbul. But the mood wasn't a patch on the carnival atmosphere in Turkey. You only had to look at the eyes of fans to sense their tension. A tension that wasn't born of Kaka's menacing runs or Gennaro Gattuso's fist-pumping aggression, but a worry of spending £1,000 to come all the way to Greece and not make it into the match for the fear of being sold a forged ticket or being relieved of your genuine final ticket by some desperate chancer in a snatch-and-run.
As it transpired, it didn't seem to matter whether you had a forged ticket or a genuine one. The behaviour of some Liverpool fans was certainly not beyond reproach, but they were given the opportunity by the inept Greek authorities and woefully ill-equipped stadium facilities deemed suitable by Uefa.
Upon arriving at the Metro station outside the ground, fans faced a cordon of riot police dressed as though they were expecting a war. As we shuffled up to them we were asked to show our tickets before we could progress. The fact that this cordon was just yards from the Metro exit caused huge congestion and mass panic among the hordes of fans making their way off the trains. What made this even more ridiculous was the fact that the eyes of the Greek police didn't even cross the tickets. They seemed more interested in eyeballing fans to judge how aggressively they were acting before letting them pass. This was the first opportunity for the many ticketless fans who made it into the stadium to flash forgeries in the faces of police and stewards before progressing with ease.
The holding area we then entered was the so-called 'fanzone' where there was no sign of fan- themed events taking place: no music, no drink (alcoholic or soft) and nothing remotely fun. This area was more intimidating than any other, as frantic supporters who had made it through without a ticket considered how best to get through the next cordon. Some Liverpool fans, inevitably, snatched tickets off those who were using the area to tout for obscene prices, while others decided to get up to the ground early as the crush of ticketless fans behind them in the Metro station was growing ever larger and increasing the tension. We were greeted with a similar cordon as we moved from the fanzone towards the ground. And as it became apparent that one gate wasn't going to be anywhere near big enough to enter stage three of the staggered entrance procedure to the ground, a riot police officer smashed the lock on a fence to relieve the crush and allow entry to anybody who was in the fanzone without so much as a glance at any tickets.
As we finally approached the ground I was asked by supporters around me whether that was the last pre-entry check. "Do you reckon we're through?" said one. "I've got a blag ticket and they haven't even checked." Many others could be overheard having similar conversations.
Before the final check, we were told to put our tickets above our heads before being herded like cattle towards the stewards' final checking zone. "This is just as bad as going to watch a match in Vietnam," said a friend of mine who had been to a few matches out there last year. Once more, many fans held up forged tickets that weren't checked.
At the final checkpoint a steward quickly flashed an ultra-violet stick over the ticket. There was no turnstile and I doubt very much whether the ticket was checked properly. Even if it was shown to be fake, a five-yard dash into the ground with no barriers or turnstile to negotiate was an almost irresistible temptation for fans who had made it this far.
In the ground, about 300 seats behind the goal where Liverpool supporters were housed remained empty for the entire match. Of those fans who did show up to take their seats in the second half, many were suffering sickness after being sprayed with tear gas, while others sat disconsolately with their heads in their hands after being beaten by Greek police officers.
Unfortunately, after travelling away with Liverpool in Europe in the past, I can't say I was surprised. In Greece, Uefa proved yet again that it cares little about the interests of supporter safety by knowingly creating such a panicked climate prior to the match. The 6,000 seats that were made redundant by increased-size advertising hoardings at the ground alone would have eradicated many of the problems caused by fans who had entered with forged tickets. And if a few thousand had been shaved from the ridiculous number of tickets (23,000) given to the Uefa family, the pre-match atmosphere and process of getting into the ground would have felt much safer.
Uefa created the situation through its greed and inability to stage a football match to the high standards to which we have become accustomed in Britain. Many ticketless Liverpool fans travelled to Cardiff for last year's FA Cup final after tickets had been stolen prior to the match, but the high standard of planning and organization by police and stewards ensured that the day passed over without any major problems.
Uefa needs to buck its ideas up, not pass the buck.
