| Hooligan in court for ban breach - 12/09/2006
Source : BBC NEWS
A football hooligan jailed for ripping up seats at a match has admitted breaching a football banning order.
Kevin H*******, 23, of Carlisle, had been banned from football games for six years for the vandal attack in York.
He is not allowed within 1,000 metres of Carlisle United's ground but he was caught outside the stadium on 5 August.
He admitted breaching a football banning order and a public order offence at Carlisle Magistrates' Court and was put on probation for a year.
He was also ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work in the community for the public order offence, which was for taunting Doncaster Rovers fans just before the match at Brunton Park.
H*******, of Henderson Road, Carlisle, was jailed for 21 months and given the six-year ban in 2003 for ripping up seats during a Carlisle United away match at York City's ground.
Restrained himself
Football Banning Orders are the similar to anti-social behaviour orders and prevent known or suspected troublemakers from attending matches.
As part of the banning order, H******* is not allowed to go within 1,000 metres of Brunton Park on match days, two hours before kick-off and one hour after matches.
Defence solicitor Claire Kirkpatrick told the court that H*******, who was on his way to the pub, admitted he "goaded and shouted" at the away fans, but only for about 30 seconds.
She said he also admitted he should have "restrained himself". H*******' ban runs out in 2010, the court heard. _________________

| 1. FC Köln - Rot-Weiß Essen - 25/09/2006
Source : KSTA
About thirty hooligans of Köln caused trouble in the centre of town with the police force, after the game, opposing their club to Essen. The hooligans started to bombard two city trams using bottles, which caused important delays on the line, but without stopping it completely. No casualties among the passengers but several thousands of euros in property damages are to be regretted. The police force pursued the hooligans throughout the city. The latter did not hesitate to strike the police officers and to use teargas grenades against them. Seven hooligans, aged from 20 to 35 years were challenged later on, not without difficulty, the ones being drunker than the others. They will be charged in court for disruption of law and order, aggravated assault and resistance towards the police force. _________________

| AS NANCY - SCHALKE 04 - 28/09/2006Source : Local view 80-90 Nancy gathered before the match... a toe a toe proposed by the German’s, we accepted the "invitation"... a small group managed to dodge the police and joined us... some punches some tins thrown and a police intervention... 2 lads were arrested on our side. After the game things were tenser, the cops’ nerves were shot....fifty lads regrouped... visitors "were released" from the terrasse well-surrounded by French and German cops... we didn’t move and waited for the arrival of the Schalke and Nuremberg hools... 20-25 hools go up the street surrounded by the anti-riot police... the police force decided to launch in our direction thus releasing the German mob, which gave them an advantage, allowing them to charge at all the small groups, dispersed by the police. After 45mn of trouble in Nancy, calm returned with 2 more arrests on our side.... in short.. impressive policework (especially for bullshit ). German groups well organised with the return of a few golden oldies. ********************************************************************************** Precision by mail: The Nancy/Saarbrücken group were composed of around fifty lads before the game and 70/80 elements at the end of the game. _________________ | |

Thirty-four people were arrested by the police force Friday evening in Dortmund (western) at the end of the advanced match of the 6th day of the german football championship which ended with a score of 2-2 between the local club, Borussia Dortmund, and Hanover.

| Catania hit with ground ban - 26/09/2006
Source: Eurosport
An Italian judge has ruled that Catania should play their next two home matches in an empty neutral stadium. The decision comes after the club's fans fought with Messina supporters during the Sicilian derby last Saturday.
It was also reported that the Catania fans had clashed with local police before and after the match, which finished 1-1.
Catania will now play their matches against Lazio on October 22 and Torino on October 29th in a neutral venue and behind closed doors. _________________

| Lincoln City: Football fans given grounds ban - 26/09/2006
Source: BBC
Three football fans have been banned from every league ground in England and Wales for fighting before Swansea City played at Lincoln City last year.
Neil Roberts, 36, and Mark Williams, 42, of Swansea, and Duncan Davison, 40, of Lincoln, admitted affray.
All were banned from attending matches for three years and given suspended jail sentences at Lincoln Crown Court.
Judge Michael Machin told them: "The courts will simply not tolerate behaviour of this kind."
Steven Gosnell, prosecuting, told the court how Roberts and Williams were with a group of Swansea fans who clashed with home supporters on Lincoln High Street in April 2005.
Trouble began after Swansea supporters tried to enter the Blue Anchor pub and then spread along the High Street near to Lincoln City's Sincil Bank Stadium.
Severe injuries
Roberts was seen to twice punch another man outside the City Vaults pub.
Williams punched a man who was lying on the ground but was then struck by a police officer's baton and suffered a fractured arm.
Davison was also involved in scuffles after first crossing the road to avoid the trouble but then going back to help out a friend.
Davison was also struck by a police baton and received such severe injuries that he was off work for 10 weeks.
All three had admitted a charge of affray at a previous hearing.
On Friday, Roberts was sentenced to 12 months in jail suspended for two years together with a two year supervision requirement.
Williams was given a four month jail sentence suspended for two years and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Davison was given a two month jail sentence suspended for two years with a two year supervision requirement. _________________

| Rangers supporters get all-clear from UEFA - 15/09/2006
Source: The Scotsman
RANGERS will be handed a seal of approval for the conduct of their supporters at last night's UEFA Cup first-round, first-leg tie against Molde in Norway.
The match at the Aker Stadium was the first in Europe for the Ibrox club since they were fined £13,000 by UEFA last season for sectarian and discriminatory chanting by their fans during the Champions League last-16 tie against Villarreal last season.
Rangers have since launched their highest profile anti-sectarian campaign yet and their efforts appear to have been rewarded. While there were isolated occurrences of songs with sectarian references from a section of their 900-strong travelling support last night, they are unlikely to provoke any fresh action from UEFA.
Lucien Kayser, the UEFA delegate at the match, said last night: "My report will be nothing special and won't contain anything negative. Rangers have nothing to worry about."
The Luxembourg official, a former international referee and member of UEFA's Fair Play and Ethics committee, will have provided some comfort to Rangers with his comments.
The club issued a statement minutes after the final whistle last night, reaffirming their desire to completely eradicate sectarian behaviour and head off the threat of ground closure or expulsion from European competition by UEFA.
"Rangers and the overwhelming majority of its supporters are doing everything in their power to combat the sectarian behaviour of a small minority of fans," said a spokesman.
"There was intense activity and information provided in the build-up to this game in line with our anti-sectarian policy and fans travelling to FROM BACK PAGE
the match were left in no doubt as to the club's expectations.
"There has been significant progress made at Ibrox and at domestic away games and the club is absolutely determined to continue tackling any sectarian behaviour as vigorously as possible."
Of greater concern to Rangers was the outcome on the pitch last night, a poor performance in a 0-0 draw leaving the outcome of the tie still in some doubt ahead of the second leg at Ibrox on 28 September.
Paul Le Guen, the Rangers manager, admitted his team did not reach acceptable standards last night. "I am not totally satisfied with either the game or the result," said Le Guen. "We had chances to score, but we also conceded chances too. I hope this is not a bad result for us.
"We are favourites to go through, but I am not interested in that. It is what happens on the pitch that counts. We were right not to be overconfident because Molde are clearly a good team. They have a good balance."
Le Guen defended his decision to make three changes to his side last night which seemed to have an adverse effect.
"Three changes is not too much," he said. "I'm confident in the whole squad, I rely on every player."
Allan McGregor proved Le Guen is able to rely on him, the goalkeeper outstanding on his European debut and responsible for Rangers avoiding defeat. "I did alright," said McGregor, "but I would rather the team had scored and taken something more from the game. That's possibly my best performance for Rangers and all I can do is be consistent and do well when the manager picks me."
Arild Stavrum, the Molde coach, was furious at Polish referee Jacek Granat's failure to award his team a penalty kick when Julien Rodriguez clashed with striker Madiou Konate in the box. "It was a clear penalty kick," said Stavrum, the former Aberdeen striker now convinced his team can cause an upset and win the tie.
"Rangers have been favourites since the draw was made," he added, "but we were just as good as them tonight. We can score goals at Ibrox and we have the possibility to go through now." _________________

| Lanus fans arrested after airport scuffle - 29/09/2006
Source: Reuters
Nine followers of Argentine club Lanus were arrested early on Friday morning in the Ezeiza international airport after fighting with security officials. The Lanus fans were returning from Sao Paulo, Brazil following their side's 0-0 with Corinthians in the Copa Sudamericana. Security officials said the trouble began because Lanus fans did not want their luggage searched. "The fight occurred in the restricted area of the airport and after the scuffle nine people were arrested," Ezeiza security official Maximiliano Lencina told reporters. "(They were part of) a group of more than 30 people, and those who were arrested are going to have to explain what happened," he said. Local media reports said the fight started because airport workers who were fans of Lanus's rivals Banfield stole flags and other belongings from the travellers. _________________

| Left for dead: sickening CCTV attack on Sikh victim by English football fans - 29/09/2006Source: Daily Mail Police have released horrifying images of brutal assault on a defenceless man whose only crime was being unlucky enough to be in their path. No doubt fuelled by booze and angry after England's defeat at the hands of Portugal during the World Cup the gang of men were clearly in the mood for trouble - and they found it. Crossing the West Quay retail park in Southampton having watched the match at the Leisure World complex across the road, the group were heading towards the city centre. It is there they happened to meet a 22-year-old Asian man who was also walking across the car park with his brother-in-law after watching the game themselves. Possibly mistaking him for being Portuguese, the gang singled out the victim and after hurling racial abuse began chasing and attacking him. Hopelessly outnumbered and now separated from his brother-in-law the 22-year-old was circled, beaten and kicked in the head several times before his body dropped to the ground, unconscious. Lying there he was kicked twice more before having a lit cigarette thrown on to him and being spat on. The graphic scenes were captured on CCTV. The camera pans around to see the gang, some bare chested, another wearing an England shirt and another with a St George's flag draped across his back running off before the police arrive. Witnesses came rushing over to help the victim who lay motionless on the ground for three minutes as paramedics arrived to treat him. Amazingly the victim, who suffered facial injuries and concussion as a result of the vicious beating, did not need hospital attention. Investigating officer DC Stuart Pearson said: "Remarkably physically he wasnt too badly injured but mentally it is going to leave a scar on him." Talking about the attack that is being treated as a racially motivated violent disorder DC Pearson said: "The victim was pleading with them that they were English and they were as upset as they were that England had lost. "But it fell on deaf ears unfortunately. I would ask for people to come forward and identify these people so they can be brought to justice. "This was an horrendous attack regardless of race. Whether they attacked him because they thought he was Portuguese or because they were Asian it doesnt really matter. "It was vicious and entirely unprovoked." Soccer fans damage Ivor Wynne By Paul Morse
The Hamilton Spectator (Sep 13, 2006)
Soccer fans wielding flares and fireworks damaged dozens of seats and singed the artificial turf at Ivor Wynne Stadium Monday night.
Hamilton is considering legal action against the Canadian Soccer League after the city and police plunged the stadium into darkness to clear fans of Serbian White Eagles of Toronto and Toronto Croatia.
Police helped clear the stands and separate "combative fans" outside Ivor Wynne, said Staff Sergeant Glenn Bullock. No charges were laid.
But the CSL says it doesn't understand the problem. Commissioner Cary Kaplan told The Spectator yesterday the league made the city aware flares could be used at the game.
Ivor Wynne officials stopped the game between the two international division CSL teams by turning off the lights after fans ignored public address warnings not to light flares and fireworks in the stands.
"We had no option, the fans were getting out of hand," said stadium manager Dan Adamson. "We decided with police that this had to stop."
Ivor Wynne's $1.5-million artificial turf was burned in three places and several dozen seats destroyed by unruly fans, he said. The damage estimate, so far, is about $2,000.
The flare flap comes two years after a licensed fireworks show following a Tiger-Cats game went awry and set the brand new artificial turf ablaze.
Bill Fenwick, director of Hamilton's culture and recreation department, said flares became a major safety concern Monday night for fans, the players and the stadium itself.
"Flares in the stands -- I don't care if it's accepted by (the CSL), it certainly isn't accepted by us."
Fenwick said he will now refer the issue to the city's legal department.
The Toronto-based Serbian and Croatian teams, using the better Ivor Wynne venue in a game played before 2,000 fans, are part of an international division started by the CSL this year to try to capture ethnic-based soccer passions. The division includes Italian, Portuguese and Caribbean-centred teams.
Games between Serbian and Croatian teams have degenerated into violence between fans in the past, but Kaplan said new security measures such as keeping respective fans on opposite sides of the field have kept things calm.
"Ivor Wynne officials were fully aware of the nature of the game between Serbia and Croatia and the risks of security, that people historically lit flares at those games," Kaplan said.
"We haven't been informed at Ivor Wynne or at the (Lamport) field in Toronto that there is a strict no-flare policy ... We didn't sense there was an overriding problem with the hand-held flares from the first game."
The CSL will beef up security at a third meeting between Serb and Croat teams in Toronto Friday.
pmorse@thespec.com 905-526-3434
Then from the return leg we have this report from a fan on the Serbian side.
The quality of last night's soccer was decent, though it was hard to judge because of the poor state of the playing field and lack of proper lighting.
At arrival to the stadium I was amazed to see the number of security personnel, alot most I have ever seen at footballmatch in Canada. Signs were posted at the entance "NO FIREWORKS, FLARES OR ALCOHOL ARE PREMITTED IN THE STADIUM" Each fan was then check buy security upon entry.
Inside again, like the first two matches, the stands were lop-side., I estimate the attendance to be near 2200. The White Eagles supporters were out in huge numbers maybe 1700, while Toronto Croatia supporters I would say 500 max.
The game was entertaining from the outset, both teams made the best of the poor field. The majority of the chances were for SWE, even hitting a cross-bar on one occasion. Toronto Croatia did muster a chance or two but were denied by Serbian Goaltender. Dragan Radovic opened the scoring at 55 minutes. Then minutes after coming into the game Gabriel Pop, the CSL leading scoring, added two, one in the 80th, and one in the 85th minutes to secure at comfortable 3-0 win.
Of note, two players, Robert Fran of Toronto Croatia and Milan Janosevic of Serbian White Eagles were both ejected in the first half for violent behaviour.
Now as for the stands for the most part normal, the fans were loud on both sides of the pitch. A lot of signing, chanting the normal stuff. But shortly after the first White Eagles goal things began to change. Toronto Croatia Supporters unveiled a flag of Ante Pavelic, who was the leader and founding member of the Croatian national socialist/fascist Ustase movement in the 1930s and later the leader of the Independent State of Croatia, a puppet state of Nazi Germany during WWII. As the leader of the Ustase he directly ordered, organized and conducted a campaign of terror against Serbs, Jews, Gypsies, and communist Croats. The extent of this campaign reached the proportions of genocide. Pavelic's Ustase regime was the most murderous Nazi client state in the entirety of occupied Europe. Croatian supporters stood with the one hand raised in the air, eerily resembling the "Hail Hitler Salute", chanting profanities about Serbs. The Serbs countered with a "Fasicist, Fascist" chant. Next the Croatian Supporters began lighting flares, fireworks etc. The question I have at this point was did security even check the Toronto Croatia supporters or was that only something that the White Eagles fans had to go through?
Immediately after SWE's third goal the majority of the Toronto Croatia fans started to exit the stadium. A small crowd of their fans began throwing flares onto the field, into the Serbian supporter's stands. They made there way right underneath the White Eagles supports in the parking lot. A group of about 10-20 Croatian urged the Serbs fans to join them in the parking lot. A large number of the more mature Serbian White Eagles supporters pleaded "leave them, they lost, don't bother". But this all change when a Serbian Girl was confronted by Croatian fans in the parking lot. A huge number of Serbian White Eagles fans exited and rush the parking lot, but many were detained in the building as security lock the exit doors.(good move by the stadium officials, police etc.) Overall a very entertaining game with some unfortunately endings, ultimately the Serbian White Eagles will now finish on top of the league with a 16-1-4 record. _________________
