| Colombia gov't plans guidelines to control soccer hooligan gangs - 26/09/2006 Source: Xinhua
Colombia's government is preparing guidelines for controlling gangs of hooligans following clashes after the country's professional soccer matches and reports that the gangs were being infiltrated by guerillas, the nation's sports agency Coldeportes said on Monday.
Juan Carlos Pena, the deputy president of Coldeportes, told media on Monday that Colombia wants to bring forwards the publication of new guidelines for the country's Closing Tournament, which ends in December. He added that the government plans to unify the rules used across the nation.
Clashes between rival fans have become routine in recent years, with gangs from Bogota clubs Millonarios and Independiente Santa Fe; Medellin club Atletico Nacional and Cali club America seen as the worst offenders.
On Sunday, in the western central of Ibague, fans from local club Deportivo Tolima and Millonarios clashed after a game won 1-0 by Tolima, leaving two fans hurt. The Millonarios team bus was also pelted with stones outside the stadium, which injured forward Jorge Banguero. A Millonarios fan later died after falling from the bus that was returning fans to Bogota.
Tolima police arrested 150 fans from both teams, many of them minors who had been drinking or taking drugs. _________________

300 attack police after derby match
Source : THE LOCAL
Swedish football suffered another image blow on Tuesday night as fans rioted after the Stockholm derby between AIK and Hammarby at the Råsunda stadium.
As well as fighting each other, around 300 supporters threw stones and stormed police, who responded by sending in mounted officers. At least one policemen was injured in the attack and three other people were taken to hospital.
32 people were arrested for various offences, including violence, causing damage and possession of drugs.
A further 18 people were taken into custody as a preventative measure and 20 were ejected from the Vasastan area, where fans congregated after the match.
Later in the evening, a pig's head was found outside Djurgården premises on Valhallavägen. Police also suspect that AIK supporters were behind an arson attack on the Zinkensdamm sports ground. _________________

| PALERMO - WEST HAM UNITED - 28/09/2006Source : REÜTERS + SPORTINGLIFE Italian police arrest 20 West Ham fansItalian police have arrested 20 West Ham United supporters after overnight clashes with Palermo fans in Sicily before Thursday's UEFA Cup match. Police in Palermo said around 300 rival supporters fought street battles and then clashed with police in the city centre, hurling glass bottles and other objects at them. One Palermo fan was also arrested, police said. Some 2,500 English fans are expected at the stadium later on Thursday for the second leg of the UEFA Cup first round tie. Palermo fans and the regional governor of Sicily have accused West Ham supporters of wearing offensive T-shirts with "The Mafia" written on them during the first leg match in London, which Palermo won 1-0. ************************************************************************************ Hammers Fans ARRESTED AFTER VIOLENCETwo West Ham fans have been arrested and another injured after a night of clashes with rival fans in Italy. The supporters were in Sicily for the return leg of West Ham's UEFA Cup clash with Palermo tonight. Tension was already high after T-shirts bearing the slogan 'The Mafia' - a reference to Sicily's links with the Italian criminal underworld - were sold outside Upton Park ahead of the first leg earlier this month, which the Hammers lost 1-0. Trouble flared just before midnight and continued for more than an hour as rival groups threw bottles and chairs at each other at the city's Teatro Massimo. Police managed to separate the two groups and the West Ham fans were put on three buses and driven away from the centre. It took police in riot gear more than an hour to bring the situation under control, and six fans, one Briton and five Italians, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Police said that two West Ham fans, aged 41 and 32, were in custody today accused of assault and resisting arrest. Officials said that more than 2,500 West Ham fans had travelled to Palermo for the game and extra security would be in place tonight. A spokesman added: "We had been alert already ahead of the match and now we will be increasing security. "The clashes were in the city centre between two groups of fans and left the streets covered in glass. "Bottles, cans, glasses and chairs were thrown by both groups - it was a huge battle which took more than an hour to control. "We would appeal for both sets of fans to keep calm and not react to provocation from opposition fans." Banners stolen _________________ | |

| Spanish FA to investigate racist chants at Celta game - 27/09/2006
Source: Reuters
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has agreed to open an investigation into racist chants from the crowd at last month's Primera Liga match between Celta Vigo and Barcelona, an RFEF spokesman said on Wednesday.
Although nothing was mentioned in the referee's report on August 28, a request to look into the matter has been made by the government-run Anti-violence commission.
The Spanish government has committed itself to taking a hard line on such issues, after a rise in incidents of racist abuse of players at football matches in recent seasons. _________________

| Football fans given grounds ban - 29/09/2006
Source : BBC NEWS
Three football fans have been banned from every league ground in England and Wales for fighting before Swansea City played at Lincoln City last year.
Neil R******, 36, and Mark W*******, 42, of Swansea, and Duncan D******, 40, of Lincoln, admitted affray.
All were banned from attending matches for three years and given suspended jail sentences at Lincoln Crown Court.
Judge Michael Machin told them: "The courts will simply not tolerate behaviour of this kind."
Steven Gosnell, prosecuting, told the court how R****** and W******* were with a group of Swansea fans who clashed with home supporters on Lincoln High Street in April 2005.
Trouble began after Swansea supporters tried to enter the Blue Anchor pub and then spread along the High Street near to Lincoln City's Sincil Bank Stadium.
Severe injuries
R****** was seen to twice punch another man outside the City Vaults pub.
W******* punched a man who was lying on the ground but was then struck by a police officer's baton and suffered a fractured arm.
D****** was also involved in scuffles after first crossing the road to avoid the trouble but then going back to help out a friend.
D****** was also struck by a police baton and received such severe injuries that he was off work for 10 weeks.
All three had admitted a charge of affray at a previous hearing.
On Friday, R****** was sentenced to 12 months in jail suspended for two years together with a two year supervision requirement.
W******* was given a four month jail sentence suspended for two years and 100 hours of unpaid work.
D****** was given a two month jail sentence suspended for two years with a two year supervision requirement. _________________

| Czech, Polish Football Fans Clash On Train - 28/09/2006
Source : DPA
More than a dozen football hooligans remained at large Friday following a battle on a train between fans of Polish and Czech football clubs, police told the CTK news agency.
The fight on a train waiting at the Ostrava rail station was the latest incident involving notoriously violent fans of the Banik Ostrava club in the eastern Czech Republic.
Police said the scrap started when about 50 Banik fans Thursday boarded a train carriage reserved for Legia Warsaw fans, who were traveling to an international UEFA match in Vienna.
Witnesses said Polish hooligans from Katowice may have joined in the fight, which injured at least one passenger on the train who was not with the Legia group. There were no reports of serious injuries.
Police detained two alleged attackers, but others fled and remained at large.
In recent months up to 200 police officers regularly assembled at Banik football matches to keep the peace, but with mixed success.
On Tuesday, for example, Most police spokeswoman Alena Bartosova said police broke up a street fight and a restaurant brawl between fans of her city's football club and Banik. Three people were arrested. _________________

| West Ham fans in Italian court - 29/09/2006Source : icUxbridge + AP Twenty West Ham fans will appear in an Italian court following their arrest after clashes with rival supporters in Italy. More than a dozen people were injured before the UEFA Cup match with Palermo. Six English people, six police officers and five locals suffered minor injuries in fighting in Sicily. Tension was already high after T-shirts bearing the slogan "The Mafia" - a reference to Sicily's links with the Italian criminal underworld - were sold outside West Ham's ground ahead of the first leg earlier this month, which the London club lost 1-0. Supporters were left disappointed after West Ham lost 3-0. Trouble flared just before midnight the night before the match and continued for more than an hour as rival groups threw bottles and chairs in the city's Teatro Massimo district. Palermo police spokesman Virgilio Alberelli said 500 people were involved in the brawl, and when officers tried to break it up they also came under attack. Some 20 Britons and a local were arrested for violence against public officials, while 109 other West Ham fans were stopped, identified and released. It took police in riot gear more than an hour to bring the violence under control. More than 2,500 West Ham fans travelled to Palermo for the game. Authorities in Britain are expected to seek banning orders against any fans found to have caused trouble. _________________ | |

Colombian soccer violence sees 160 fans arrested
A 25-year-old was killed and three other soccer fans hospitalized in street clashes that ended with the arrests of 160 on Sunday.
The violence began before a match when fans from Colombian league leader Deportes Tolima, defying 1,000 police sent to reinforce security, threw rocks at the bus carrying the visiting Millionarios squad from Bogota.
Following Tolima's 1-0 victory, the disturbances resumed and Millionarios fan Alejando Galindo was killed when he was run over by a bus. Three more Millionarios fans were taken to a hospital in Ibague, 80 miles west of the capital, and released Monday with minor injuries, authorities said.
Those arrested were under the influence of drugs and alcohol, Col. Gilberto Ramirez, police commander in Tolima province, said Monday. _________________

Czech hooligans attack Foulkes
FORMER Hearts chairman George Foulkes has been attacked by Balaclava-wearing football thugs while following Hearts in Prague.
The Labour peer was enjoying a drink outside a busy bar with fellow Jambos when the hooligans stormed in.
The 64-year-old was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head as a dozen Czech thugs dressed all in black struck.
A fellow fan saved him from more serious injury by dragging him inside the pub as the attack continued.
Lord Foulkes was left with a cut on his forehead after the incident which took place just 50 yards from the stadium where Hearts played.
The attack happened as an estimated 5000 Hearts' fans descended on the Czech Republic capital for Hearts' Uefa cup tie with Sparta Prague on Thursday night.
Some of the other fans were more badly beaten than the 64-year-old, with around six thought to have picked up cuts and bruises.
The incident appeared to be in stark contrast to most fans' experience of the trip. The British Embassy officials said today there had been no reports of any trouble at the game from local police.
Lord Foulkes, who returned to Edinburgh on a charter flight last night, said the attack came completely out of the blue.
He said: "It was a shock more than anything else and I think some of the other fans took more of a punishment than me.
"We were in the city centre but decided to try a few of the bars around the ground before the game.
"The bar we were in was only about 50 yards from the stadium. I was outside chatting to some fans when we saw around a dozen guys dressed in black, some with Balaclavas, come towards us.
"I was knocked to the ground and got a kick in the head but it was only a minor cut.
"Someone dragged me into the pub. I was shaking but I was fine just a few minutes later.
"It was over in seconds and it was mainly punching and kicking.
"What happened was completely out of keeping with the rest of the day because the locals had been very welcoming and the atmosphere was very good." Sparta Prague's 20,500-capacity Toyota Arena stadium is about a 45-minute walk from the city centre and thousands of Hearts fans congregated at pubs around the ground in the hours leading up to the game.
Derek Watson, secretary of the Hearts Supporters Club, said: "I am shocked to hear this because all the reports coming back seem to indicate that it was a really friendly atmosphere.
"Hearts fans tend to make friends wherever they go, but I suppose there will always be the chance of these sort of one-off incidents in any city in Europe.
"It is surprising that it happened so close to the stadium because you would have thought the policing would be tighter but I'm glad it sounds like nobody was too badly hurt."
Hearts drew the game against Sparta Prague 0-0 but lost the tie 2-0 on aggregate.
Lord Foulkes of Cumnock is set to return to frontline politics at next year's Holyrood elections after coming top of one of the party's regional lists for Labour.
He is expected to become an MSP if Labour loses any directly-elected seats in Lothian, where at least two members are regarded as vulnerable. _________________

| OXFORD UNITED FC - YORK CITY FC - 30/09/2006
Source : OXFORD MAIL
Police use batons to stop fans fighting
Police used batons to break up clashes between about 100 Oxford United and York City supporters in a pre-arranged confrontation.
Officers are sure known hooligans from both sides planned the violence - which saw them throwing bottles, glasses and other items in Blackbird Leys Road, Oxford, before Saturday's Conference clash.
Three York supporters were arrested for public disorder after a window was smashed at the Priory pub after the game. One was given a fixed penalty notice and the others were released on police bail.
continued... Oxford's football intelligence officer Dc Huw James said it was the worst violence he had seen at United for at least two seasons.
He said: "Up to 60 (high) risk supporters from York City were found to be drinking in the Cowley area and they made their way to the Blackbird Leys area, where it was clear to police that a pre-planned meeting with Oxford United risk supporters took place.
"It appears bottles, glasses and other items were thrown between the groups."
He said after the groups were broken up, the York supporters were escorted to the U's stadium, where the match passed peacefully.
But he added: "Prior to the end of the game, a number of known York City fans left the ground and went to the Priory pub where it's alleged a number of them smashed a window.
"I think this is totally disgraceful that men in their 30s and 40s have taken it upon themselves to not just put themselves at risk but also members of the public. It's very likely further arrests will be made, particularly of those from Oxford.
"This season this is by far the worst disorder we have seen. There was nothing like this last season."
Dc James praised two colleagues, Pcs Gary French and Steve Norman, for their courageous work splitting up the fans. _________________
