26 injured in clash with soccer hooligans in Poland
19:51 2005-09-12 Fourteen officers and 18 other people were injured after hundreds of soccer hooligans clashed with police overnight following two lower division matches, a news agency reported Monday.
The violence in Mielec began after a fan who was being pursued by police for speeding on his motorcycle died in a crash Sunday evening. Some 500 hooligans then began attacking officers with paving stones, local police spokesman Wieslaw Dybas told Poland's PAP news agency.
"Soccer hooligans blame the police for the death," Dybas said.
More than 200 policemen reacted by firing rubber bullets on the crowd during the five hour-long clash, which followed the fourth-division match between Stal Mielec and Siarka Tarnobrzeg, the AP reports.
They also detained about 60 people, Dybas said, while six officers were injured and eight police cars were damaged.
The clashes left trash cans and ripped-up paving stones strewn around the town. Police gave no immediate estimate of the cost of the damage.
In Lublin, rowdy fans attacked the stadium guards and then the police during a third-division soccer match between Motor Lublin and Avia Swidnik.
Thirty-eight people were detained after the clashes that left eight officers, six guards and 12 other people injured and a police car damaged, Lublin police spokesman Janusz Wojtowicz told PAP. _________________

| Italy fined after trouble mars Wales game - 29/09/2005
Source: football.co.uk
The Italian Football Federation have been fined by UEFA after trouble marred their Euro 2004 qualifier against Wales earlier this month.
Four second-half goals sealed an impressive win for the Italians in Milan but off the pitch the hosts were criticised for "a serious lack of security that led to crowd disturbances".
UEFA handed out a fine of 39,000 euros after Welsh supporters claimed they were spat on and pelted by bottles and coins from Italian fans situated in a tier above them at the San Siro.
However, it also seems that Wales may face the prospect of receiving a fine after comments were made by UEFA about "the improper conduct of Welsh supporters at the match".
A small section of Welsh fans clashed with police inside the stadium after complaining about the behaviour of Italian fans.
Meanwhile, Serbia & Montenegro have been fined 16,200 euros "for the racist conduct of its supporters" during August's Euro 2004 qualifier against Wales. _________________

| CELTS FAN JAILED FOR GER ATTACK - 09/09/2005
Source : The Mirror
A CELTIC supporter has been jailed for a year for scarring a Rangers fan for life in the wake of an Old Firm match.
Richard Deane, 31, punched Trevor Brister and knocked him off his feet after being taunted when his team lost.
They had been watching last November's CIS Insurance Cup quarter-final - which the Gers won 2-1 - when they clashed in a pub toilets in Perth.
Mr Brister, 30, later walked over to Deane at the bar to apologise but the 6ft 2ins thug lashed out.
He smashed his rival in the face and left him with a broken bone above the eye and a permanent scar.
At the town's sheriff court yesterday, Deane admitted punching Mr Brister to his permanent disfigurement.
Defence solicitor David Holmes said: "He didn't know Mr Brister, who had found out he was a Celtic supporter. Abusive remarks were made."
Sheriff Michael Fletcher noted it was the third time Deane, of Perth, had been convicted of a violent attack.
His sentence will start at the end of the four years he is serving for drugs offences.
