| '7 July' chants at football match - 26/09/2005
Source : BBC NEWS
Six people have been arrested following alleged racist chanting towards London fans at a football match in Leicester.
Police expect to make further arrests in connection with the abuse, which is said to have to have connections to the 7 July London bombings. Leics Police made arrests for public order offences at the Leicester City vs Queens Park Rangers Championship game at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday. The club is investigating "highly irresponsible and offensive chants". It said they came from a small section of the home crowd.
'Immediate reaction'
Supt Chris Rowlings said footage from cameras at the ground was being examined to see where the problems started. He confirmed that the taunts about the terrorist attacks, in which 56 people died, were being investigated. He told BBC Radio Leicester: "That is one thing I have heard. Part of the investigation is to determine exactly the nature of the chanting. "It did provoke an immediate reaction from Queen's Park Rangers (fans) so it was clearly very offensive and potentially very dangerous behaviour. "As a regular match commander down at the Walkers Stadium, that type of behaviour will not be tolerated by us and it will certainly not be tolerated by the club either." Sup Rowlings added: "I certainly anticipate further arrests and further prosecutions in the future definitely... I anticipate that further action will be taken." The club said it would take "appropriate action" if the allegations were found to be accurate. _________________

| Persija - Persipura - ??/09/2005
Source : ultrasspirit.com forum
JAKARTA - Indonesian police said they had arrested more than 70 people for arson and vandalism after football fans went on the rampage when their team lost a national championship in the capital. A total of 74 supporters of Jakarta's Persija football club were detained after they set fire to eight police vehicles and damaged 11 civilian cars Sunday, said Jakarta police spokesman I Ketut Untung Yoga. He said the Persija supporters, mostly in their early 20s, went on a rampage after the team lost 2-3 in the Indonesian League championship final to Persipura football club from easternmost Papua province. The fans also injured 22 policemen and 19 civilians in the melee. They could face jail for charges of arson and causing malicious damage to property, Yoga said. Television pictures showed a small fire burning inside Bung Karno Stadium and riot police on the debris-strewn field after the match. Unrest following football matches is common in Indonesia. It often leads to vandalism, injuries or even deaths.. _________________

| Marseille - Germinal Beerschot - 29/09/2005Source : AP + mails Four belgian fans arrested after troubles in MarseilleFour Belgians were arrested on thursday night after riots occured between fans in Marseille, prior to the game. Two other people were slightly injured. A group of 70 belgian fans, surrounded by police forces, rioted with about 15 locals in front of a pub, at 7.15pm. Fans battled using chairs and two locals were injured. Police forces made an intervention and 4 Belgians, all well knowed as Category C fans, were arrested. Sources announced 1100 Belgians in Marseille. *********************************************************** Source: a local view On our side, we were about 30, including 8 old faces. The rest was top youths. In fact, a very small mobbed up due the visitor reputation. We decided to stay calm but we knew very well that taking position in front of the tube, it will be easy for them to find us. As we thought they spotted us and at 18.15pm about 60/70 of them mobbed up and they immediately took our direction. We try to have other lads with us due to this arrival. Visitors arrived without any police forces...respect for that. Their group was composed with many lads in their thirteen. Theyr arrived singing 'Belgium Hooligans' and everything started. No real toe-to-toe due to the bottles, rocks, firecrackers used by both sides. Both groups charged but now one took the best due to these 'weapons' use. Finally, 2 minutes of riots and police forces arrived. For my own, I must admit that if everything have continued, I'm sure visitors will take the advantage. At the end, 2 of us were injured and 2 others arrested (released the day after with a stadiums ban - 6 months - and a 200 € fee). On Beerschot side, I don't know but congratulations and sorry if we were not in large number. They stood in Marseille till Friday morning but due to our bad organisation we didn't try something else. *********************************************************** Source: mail a Beerschot view Since this was the first european awaygame our team played in 26 years allmost everbody in our firm was up for a trip to france. The first group (+-15 old schoollads) arrived in Marseille wednesday afternoon. the lads went drinking at the vieux-port but no om-lads where spotted. The barkeeper from the om-cafe told us many people where affraid because the newspapers announced we where coming with a +100 mob just to cause trouble. Thursdaymorning around 11.30 our second group arrives by coach +-40 jgb-lads (our youthfirm) and around 15h another group (+-50 old school-lads) arrives by TGV. At the vieux-port young immigrants started provocading our group and small skrimages eccurted. Immigrants had to run and after a while ob was on top of the situation. At arround 15.30h ob started to clean up le vieux-port and all fans where pushed in the metrotube to be transported to the footballstadium. About 60 of us left to a nearbye bar in a smaller street to avoid getting transported to the stadium allready. At 19h we've arrived at the footballstadium (also bye metro); when we came out off the tube we've spotted om-lads down a bar across the street. The seemed up for it so we've crossed the street and all hell broke lose. It was a good fight (60 om-60 be). Om charged using chairs, bottles, fireworks and chains. We stood our ground using our belts and all the shit the were throwing and when most they were out off weapons we charged them back. After a few minutes riotpolice charged and surrounded us (2 lads off us got arrested) and we were escorted to the ground. Respect to Marseille for standing their ground. The only thing i petty are those 2 bastard of their firm who held fireworks and tried to poke them in our faces After the game all was quiet! _________________ | |

| Thirty-two stadiums bans in Belgium - 30/09/2005
Source: Een Teletext
Belgian authorities gave 32 new stadiums bans to RC Mechelen fans.
In April they caused troubles during their derby against KV Mechelen. Thirty-one of them also received fees. The most severe sentence is a 3 years ban and 1500 €.
Actually, 460 Belgians have bans. _________________

| Lokomotiv Plovdiv - Bolton Wanderers - 29/09/2005ATTENTION: all real Bolton lads said they met up in Sunny Beach and they never saw any Bulgarians. They said the only ones who were assaulted by locals were 'classical fans', especially the one on the picture lying on the floor kicking on the fac. Source: ITK local lad view + Bolton Evening News Good mob of loko plovdiv around the town center hole day.rumors were saying that few bolton firms were in the see garden drinking. about 150 of us made our way that direction. two different bolton firms got run near that pub in the forest.a few bolton got done badly. Seconds after that there were about 70-80 coppers all over us nicking, chasing and despersing lads.pure chaos for about 10 min. kicked off with the coppers as more boys got nicked. The rest of us got an escort to the ground.on the way we saw another bolton mob who i would say were up for it but there was too many OB separating us and just bottles were thrown. Outside the ground some managed to escape the escort an had little offs with bolton hanging around. *********************************************************** Source: Bolton lad view Gypos were hiding in trees and bushes and when scarfers were walking past they were getting ambushed. The bloke on the pic came to the bar where a poster off here was spotted icon22.gif just after he was jumped by 20 gypos, in his own words, he was walking with a 63 year old and a group of plovdiv called him over with their hands out to shake, as he shook ones hand he said nice game, then from the side he was bottled kicked to the ground and had his head jumped on. The 63 year old was also struck over the head with a bottle but he managed to get to the taxi driver who helped the bloke on the ground and the taxi driver gave him his sweatshirt to wear as these brave boys ripped his Bolton shirt off him. Anyway at the pub, there was a decent sized mob of gypos who was walking up with the police and when we saw you approach we mobbed up at the side of the road waiting. You then stood behind the police giving it large and as we moved forward you ran up the road with your tail between your legs. After that ours(around 60) were rounded up by riot police and marched up the road when you lot were spotted hiding in the bushes between the flats so we broke through the police line and charged again and you legged it once more. One or two of you got caught and took a kicking then riot police moved in again and took us to the ground. Unfortunately the majority of us was staying in Sunny Beach and went to Bourgas in coaches mini buses and taxis and as soon as they approached Bourgas the police escorted every single one inside the ground compound and got the fans straight onto the terraces so therefore there was a limited ammount of lads knocking about outside the ground. Fortunately myself and a few others blagged security to let us out as we had to meet a mate who had our tickets. As for the bloke taking the pictures, I remember you, you was walking with another lad you are both no older than 20 and could do with a good fucking meal. You took a picture of us lot at the bar just as a bottle went whizzing past your head but I cant seem to find it!!! *********************************************************** Source: Bolton Evening News from the Bolton evening news........ Praise for White Army Last posted: Saturday 1 October 2005 12:14 THE head of Bolton Police has praised Bolton Wanderers travelling supporters for their good behaviour during the UEFA cup tie. Chief Supt Dave Lea was in Burgas to oversee a Bulgarian police operation to control the two sets of fans . After the game he said: "The Wanderers fans came here to enjoy themselves and they've done exactly that, but their behaviour has also been impeccable. "The police operation has played a large part in that, but they deserve credit for their conduct." Chief Supt Lea said only one incident had been reported. A man from Bolton suffered a black eye after he was punched and kicked by Plovdiv fans as he walked to the ground with a group of four friends. | Italian and English FA to share views on combating football violence - 25/09/2005
Source : AFP
The presidents of the Italian and English Football Associations will host a seminar at the British Embassy here on Monday about the ongoing fight against hooliganism. The purpose of the discussion is to look at the results of the recent measures introduced by the Italian Government to combat violence at matches and compare them with the results in England. The seminar, called 'Violence in the stadiums, zero tolerance: the Italian and British experiences', will be opened by Geoffrey Thompson, President of the Football Association (FA), and Franco Carraro, President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). Development of stadiums, crowd control methods, international cooperation and information exchange on troublemakers and the fight against racism will also be discussed during the two day debate. _________________

| UEFA miss an opportunity with closed-door policy - 30/09/2005
Source : REÜTERS
Exactly who was UEFA punishing by forcing this week's Champions League game between Inter Milan and Rangers to be played behind closed doors? The sanction was imposed in response to those Inter fans who wrecked the end of last season's quarter-final tie with AC Milan by launching scores of firecrackers and flames on to the San Siro pitch. When European soccer's governing body subsequently announced that Inter would have to play their next four continental matches without fans most observers accepted it was a fair response to an act of violence which could not be allowed to pass unpunished. The target of the ban was the Inter fans who were denied the chance to attend a Champions League qualifier and the three home games in the group stage. It could be argued that sanctioning 60,000 people for the acts of a few dozen was an unacceptable collective punishment but at least it encouraged the majority of Inter fans to treat the pyromaniacs in their midst with the contempt they deserve. Although Inter, as a club and a business, were also punished with the loss of several million euros in revenue they could be seen as being given a helping hand in dealing with the violence of the hardcore 'ultras'. Italian clubs frequently appeal against disciplinary action and it perhaps reflected the 'cruel to be kind' nature of the ban that Inter did not protest UEFA's sanction. Perhaps, privately, they even welcomed it.
DRACONIAN ACTION
For the suits in Switzerland could have been much tougher if they had wished -- Inter could have been banned from the competition for a year and there are precedents for such a hardline stance. In many ways such a draconian action would have been more just because the "closed door" policy has punished thousands of people who had nothing to do with the shameful scenes at the San Siro last season. Outside the deserted 80,000 capacity San Siro on Wednesday were a group of ten Glasgow Rangers fans who were determined to make their trip to Milan even though they knew that they would be denied entry. Scottish fans love their European trips and stopping thousands of them enjoying what could have been a memorable one is hard to justify. The fans of Slovak side Artmedia Bratislava have never had the chance to visit one of football's greatest venues and although drawn in the same Champions League group as Inter they, along with the group's other club Porto, will be robbed of a memorable night. Likewise the players, of both Rangers and Inter, forced to play in the contrived and unnatural environment of an empty stadium were paying the price for a crime they did not commit. "Footballers play for the public and if the public aren't there to give them that stimulus it becomes very difficult for them to play to their best," said Inter coach Roberto Mancini after a dull and soulless evening ended in a 1-0 win for his team. And what of the television companies who pay millions for the rights to broadcast Europe's top club competition? Were they happy at showing a game that had no more atmosphere than a training session with the shouts of players the only sound to break the silence? The millions of television viewers certainly couldn't have been happy with the diluted product offered to them either. The closed door ban then punished many innocents and what is worse there was another alternative sanction which could have been used to promote rather than devalue the Champions League.
LEFT OUT
The biggest weakness of the continent's elite competition is that it is performed on a limited number of stages, overwhelmingly in Europe's major soccer nations, and that huge swathes of Europe are left out of the fun. Had UEFA ordered Inter to play their home games on neutral grounds they would have been able to punish the Italian fans, who rarely travel long distances, and their club whilst offering those parts of the continent that are denied top class football a rare treat. For example, Inter v Rangers played in Budapest, a great football city which hasn't seen Champions League football for a decade, would have been a sell-out treat for Hungarian fans, a marketing opportunity for the competition's sponsors and a cash bonus for the host venue. Would Inter v Porto in Cardiff not be preferable to another night of ghostly gloom at an empty San Siro? Artmedia's fans will never be able to be compensated for losing the night of their dreams but a trip to a third country to see their team play Adriano, Luis Figo and co would be better than the pointless nothingness that is a football match with no fans. UEFA's disciplinarians will need to act again in the future and perhaps next time they could use a little more imagination. _________________

| Fourteen held over seaside fight - 28/09/2005
Source : BBC NEWS
Fourteen people from Leeds and Wolverhampton have been arrested in connection with a large fight on Blackpool promenade this summer.
They were arrested following raids on Wednesday by police investigating the fight which happened on 25 June and involved more than 50 people. Detectives said the fight had involved a stag party from Leeds and a group of Wolverhampton Wanderers football fans. Those arrested are being questioned on suspicion of violent disorder. Lancashire Police said the arrests came after officers studied CCTV footage of the fight, which began in the Foxhall pub and later spilled out onto the promenade. _________________

| Penarol lose points after match halted by riot - 20/09/2005
Source : ESPN website
Penarol have lost all three points after misbehaviour by their fans forced a Uruguayan championship match to be abandoned earlier this month. The Uruguayan Football Association's (AUF) disciplinary tribunal decided to award opponents Miramar Misiones a 2-0 win following the violence at the match on September 11, local media said on Tuesday. Penarol were leading 2-1 when fans behind the goal began fighting and hurling missiles onto the pitch. Referee Martin Vazquez abandoned the match as riot police fired rubber bullets into the crowd to restore order. The decision means that Penarol, Uruguay's most popular club, dropped to 11th in the Apertura championship with five points from four games. _________________

| Fans' rampage wrecked pub, court told - 21/09/2005
Source: The Argus
Tables and chairs were hurled through a pub window as rival fans clashed in a huge resurgence of football violence, a court heard.
The trouble erupted in The Lanes, Brighton, hours after Brighton and Hove Albion played Leeds United at Withdean stadium last season.
Christina Laing, prosecuting, described the incident - a throwback to the dark days of violence at grounds across England in the Seventies - as football hooliganism at its worst.
She said people were shocked and terrified as Brighton fans hurled missiles at Leeds supporters at The Pump House pub in Market Street.
Staff and customers cowered in a back room as advertising signs and chairs and tables from nearby restaurants were thrown through the windows.
Miss Laing told Hove Crown Court the Brighton fans even had their own photographer taking pictures of the incident.
The pictures were seized days later after they were taken into a shop in Brighton to be developed.
The court was told that they were later used along with footage from CCTV cameras to identify and arrest a large number of men.
Sami Abulbashar, 20, of Stonery Road, Portslade, and John Mack, 49, of Walmer Crescent, Brighton, deny violent disorder on October 23.
Miss Laing said: "A huge amount of damage was caused.
"Everyone who witnessed what happened was shocked and terrified at the level of violence."
Miss Lang said there was evidence the clash had been planned.
She said Brighton fans had been at The Sussex pub in nearby East Street and had left moments before the violence erupted.
Miss Laing said: "A group of 25 men faced the Pump House chanting: ëSeagulls, Seagulls and come on out if you want it.'
"Staff heard one of the Leeds fans say, ëthey are here' and they got up and pushed towards the door.
"Fighting began and stools were used to smash windows and other missiles were thrown at the pub."
Paul Sewell, the pub manager, said tables and chairs were raining through the broken window.
Barmaid Katrina Drake phoned the police but was so terrified she had an asthma attack and could not complete the call.
Her colleague Darren Nolan said in his statement: "I could hear screaming and windows being smashed.
"I went to the front of the pub and watched in disbelief."
Miss Laing alleged that both Mack and Abulbashar were in the thick of the violence.
A number of Leeds fans were injured but left the scene as police arrived.
Mack was arrested at a nearby taxi rank after a short chase but told police he had gone to see who had thrown a missile at him after he left The Sussex to investigate what was causing the commotion outside.
Abulbashar was arrested at his home on November 4.
He claimed he was a passer-by and had not hit anyone.
The trial continues. _________________
