Shocking moment Rangers fans clash with police at Hampden ahead as female St Johnstone employee knocked to ground
RANGERS fans appeared to clash with police before today's Premier Sports Cup match against St Johnstone at Hampden.
The Light Blues are hosting games at the national stadium due to ongoing building works at Ibrox which have been hit by delays.
Rumours of fan protests outside the ground never materialised but trouble reportedly broke out between cops and some supporters around an hour prior to kick-off.
At around 4.45pm a large group of Rangers ultras approached Hampden via Somerville Drive.
They allegedly spotted someone carrying a St Johnstone drum near the Rangers merchandise stall close to the entrance to the West Stand.
A group of the fans reportedly pointed to the drum and began to shout about getting hold of it, before allegedly running up and violently grabbing it.
It appeared a woman was knocked to the ground during the incident, prompting officers to rush to the scene.
The thugs then appeared to run away with the drum in hand.
Cops armed with batons gave chase as the group dispersed into larger crowds of fans and multiple arrests were made.
Scuffles reportedly broke out and one officer was allegedly knocked to the floor, prompting the officers to demand the mob to get back.

Arrests made in city centre as Carlisle United beat Barrow
A number of arrests have been made following a policing operation for the Cumbrian derby in Carlisle.
Carlisle United beat Barrow AFC at Brunton Park on Saturday lunchtime with a police operation running throughout the day.
An increased number of officers were in Carlisle to ensure the safety of the fans and the public and police also warned fans to 'stay within' their limits.
A dispersal order was authorised giving extra officers powers to ask individuals engaged in anti-social behaviour in the area to leave and not return.
A number of people were also given dispersal orders to leave Carlisle City Centre and not return within 24 hours.
Speaking on the operation Chief Superintendent Matt Kennerley said “Although the vast majority of supporters from both clubs enjoyed the match responsibly, we did see a number of individuals intent on causing disorder after the match.
“Both sets of fans were escorted from Brunton Park into the town centre by specialist officers, our dog unit and police horses, with the Barrow fans escorted to the train station.
“We have seen a number of young people grouping after the match engaging in anti-social behaviour.
“We understand supporters passion for the game however incidents of disorder and violent behaviour will not be tolerated and we will take action against those engaged in that behaviour.”

Planned fight between ultras from Sampdoria and Genoa - 17/08/2024
Source : https://www.genovatoday.it/
Planned figtht with helmets and belts between Doriani and Genoani
The prompt intervention of the flying squads of the State Police prevented a brawl between Genoa and Sampdoria fans armed with rods from escalating. The report, to the operations centre, arrived at around two o'clock in the morning on Saturday 17 August 2024, when someone had reported the presence of two groups with armed people wearing helmets facing each other in the Quarto Alta area.
The flying squads of the Upgsp and the Cornigliano police station rushed to Via delle Eriche and the group of young people dispersed, leaving blunt objects on the ground. The officers intercepted a motorcyclist who, having been pursued by the patrol, started driving dangerously for himself and others, committing numerous traffic offences, until he was stopped in via Cimarosa. He was an 18-year-old who had already received a Daspo issued by the Questore of Monza-Brianza, and was linked to the organised Genoa fans. He was taken to the police station and reported for resisting a public official. The Traffic Police, who arrived on the scene to help him, fined him for speeding, failure to comply with the obligation to wear a protective helmet and the obligation to stop at the officers' invitation, failure to give way and dangerous change of direction or lane. The vehicle was placed under administrative arrest for 60 days.

Challenger Pro League scare: balaclava-clad fans wait for them to get off the bus!
Patro Eisden fans got a big scare after their first match in the Challenger Pro League. Masked hooligans from a rival club were waiting for them when their bus arrived after their trip to RWDM.
Patro Eisden Maasmechelen returned to the Challenger Pro League this weekend, and did so with a good point at RWDM. But their supporters got a nasty surprise on their return.
As reported by the club via its networks, a group of hooded ultras waited for the Patro supporters as they got off the bus at the Maasmechelen stadium. Around thirty individuals came to put pressure on the supporters, among whom were children.
Patro Eisden is directly accusing KRC Genk, whose colours (blue and white) the hooligans were wearing, of being responsible for the incident.
‘After viewing the images and listening to the witnesses, it was once again an attack by KRC Genk supporters. Patro Eisden is not surprised by these new facts. The impunity granted to KRC Genk supporters by the Belgian Union after the events of last year is at the root of this escalation,’ reads the club's press release.
The Maasmechelen club is referring to a match last season between Patro and Jong Genk, which had to be called off when Racing Genk ultras confronted Patro supporters on Matchday 25 of the Challenger Pro League.
‘Patro Eisden is also surprised that KRC Genk has never distanced itself from the events of last year (...) Furthermore, Patro Eisden will provide all clear evidence to the police and will use all means to defend itself and the rights of its supporters,’ concluded the promoted club.

8 football fans held for causing disturbances at Perak stadium
Police arrested eight football fans suspected of causing disturbances and provoking incidents after the Super League match between Perak FC and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) was called off at Stadium Indera Mulia in Ipoh last night.
The match was postponed because of adverse weather.
Ipoh police chief Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said seven of the suspects, aged between 19 and 32, were detained for their involvement in the disturbances and provocation.
The case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for rioting, he said in a statement today.
He said a 16-year-old youth was also arrested for throwing a bottle at a police officer on duty, with the case being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant.
All eight tested negative for drugs and had no criminal records.
Police are finalising their investigations and will refer the papers to the Perak public prosecutor’s office for further action, he said.
The Malaysian Football League said the match will be rescheduled to a later date.
