England : Two Wigan Athletic fans banned from matches for brawl with Rangers hooligans - 19/01/2024

Sean Wood, 38, and David Hockey, 32, came to blows with Gers followers after a pre-season friendly game between the two teams on July 29 2018.

The Glasgow city centre fight involved notorious hooligan Sandy Chugg who received a year-long prison sentence in 2019 for his part in it.

A hearing this week at Glasgow Sheriff Court was told that the bust-up was sparked after Chugg - once head of the feared Rangers Inter City Firm hooligan gang - was attacked outside a pub in Glasgow.

Fellow Rangers fans Robbie Donaldson, Martin Donnelly, David Fleming, Andrew Reid, Alistair McKenzie, Connor Proven and Edward Clark also became involved in the brawl.

They were jailed for a total of nearly seven years while a co-accused, Kyle Bain, was ordered to complete 225 hours’ unpaid work.

The rival supporters came together and there was a large large scale disturbance in the middle of the street, prosecutors told the hearing.

Wood, a construction site labourer, and pharmacy delivery man Hockey both pleaded guilty to a single charge of breaching the peace.

They were fined £650 by Sheriff John McCormick who also imposed the football ban.

The court heard that the Wood and Hockey were based in the Weatherspoon's pub The Sir John Moore and that there was an “orchestrated movement of fans to meet another group of fans associated with Rangers.”

Shortly before the kick-off of the 16th final of the Coupe de France, the Riviera supporters, gathered in the visitors' park, attacked the neighboring stand. The North Gate ultras then came to the rescue. Exchanges of blows and smoke bombs took place, before the intervention of the CRS and stewards managed to restore calm.

Kick-off was delayed by five minutes.

Fan protests interrupt Cologne-Dortmund game

Ultras from both teams threw chocolate coins wrapped in gold foil onto the pitch in a planned protest during the 12th minute of the match, symbolising the fans as the "12th man" on the pitch.

Players from both clubs were seen helping ground attendants remove hundreds of gold coins which were dotted across the playing field.

Stuttgart fans refuse to remove flags blocking fire exits

Bochum and Stuttgart's Bundesliga match on Saturday was delayed by 40 minutes after fans of the visiting side unfurled flags which blocked fire exits.

Referee Bastian Dankert refused to resume the match after half-time as fans chose to ignore stadium announcements and even a plea from Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness.

Sky Germany reported that the fire department was even consulted so that a solution could be found to allow the game to continue amid suggestions it may be abandoned.

With the players jogging on the pitch to keep warm, play eventually resumed as stadium stewards conducted tests on the exits. Some flags were removed while others remained in place.

The arrest of three individuals aged 25, 18, and 21 was ordered by the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the attack and assault on a 26-year-old that occurred in the early hours of Epiphany in the Saripolou area, downtown Limassol.

The three young individuals were brought before the Limassol District Court this morning, which ordered their detention for a period of four days.

The attack on the 26-year-old occurred without any substantial reason or cause. According to the victim’s complaint, while walking with two friends along Kanari Street towards the Catholic church, he was inexplicably attacked by a group of young people who began questioning him about various topics, including his allegiance to a specific group.

The victim stated that he avoided answering and, at some point, referred to them as “little ones.”

The young individuals seemed offended and assaulted the victim, punching and kicking him.

Investigations by the Limassol CID revealed that on that night, there was an event organized by the AEL fan club at a nearby entertainment venue, attended by around 300 people.

Closed-circuit television surveillance footage identified some of the attackers wearing AEL insignia on their hoodies.

The police publicly released photos of these individuals, and some have been recognized.

The victim, having identified the three suspects through social media profiles, reported this to the CID.

The Limassol CID proceeded to arrest the three individuals, while two others are still wanted.

According to information from philenews, the suspects deny any involvement in the assault during verbal interrogations.

It’s worth noting that the attack occurred in the early hours of January 6, 2024, in Limassol, with the 26-year-old being assaulted by a group of 15-20 individuals.

The victim was transferred to a private hospital, where he underwent surgery for a double jaw fracture and nasal bone fractures.
