Chelsea fan fined and banned for three years for homophobic chant at Brighton - 04/01/2019

Source : https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/46752761

A Chelsea fan has been fined £965 and banned from attending football matches for three years after being found guilty of homophobic chants.

George Bradley, 20, pleaded guilty to the offence of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

It happened last month during Chelsea's game with Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton said: "We would remind all fans that we will not tolerate any form of abusive behaviour at the stadium."

Sussex Police's football policing officer Darren Balkham added: "This was a great example of the stewarding and policing operation at the stadium taking action when incidents occur.

"I would urge any supporter attending the Amex to report these incidents to either a steward or police officer to allow us to take action at the time."

Last month Chelsea suspended four supporters from attending matches while an investigation into the alleged racial abuse of Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling takes place.

Also last month Chelsea condemned a vocal minority of their fans for anti-Semitic chants during a Europa League match with MOL Vidi in Hungary.

Police launch investigation after Liverpool fans were hit by coins

Several fans reported missiles being launched into the away end at the Etihad on Thursday night

Police are have launched an investigation after Liverpool fans were 'pelted with coins' during their loss to Manchester City on Thursday night.

Greater Manchester Police have today said they will be investigating the reports after a number of Liverpool fans reported missiles being launched into the away section of the crowd at the Etihad stadium.

One Liverpool fan told the Liverpool Echo: "It's absolutely mad that people can have such anger towards somebody else over a team they support they feel the need to throw coins.

"I genuinely can't get my head around that mentality because it's just a game at the end of the day."

"They are throwing a metal object into a section of fans that has kids in.

"Imagine if it was to hit a kid in the eye? Things like that can be life changing and shouldn't be going on in football grounds."

Fans also claimed that stewards were informed that coins were being thrown but failed to act.

He said: "What is just as annoying is the lack of care the stewards were showing.

"My seat was on an aisle and the first coin I spotted getting thrown over I said to a steward 'Are you onto that? They are throwing coins'.

"His response initially was that he couldn't hear me and then he said he was sure they "will be taking a look".

"Another instance was when a coin hit somebody I was with on the shoulder. I mentioned it to a different steward and he told me to calm down. I then mentioned it again and he said he would go and speak to somebody. He didn't."

Investigation after pitch invasion during Ebbsfleet v Chesterfield match

Season 18/19 - January 190106091705174274

There were ugly scenes as fans invaded the pitch during a football match between Ebbsfleet and Chesterfield today.

Police and the FA have launched an investigation after allegations a player was "kicked" and racially abused following a stoppage time equaliser at the Proact Stadium.

Fleet were 3-0 up at half-time, but after their opponents mounted a comeback in the second half, home supporters ran on and clashed with Fleet keeper Nathan Ashmore.

KentOnline sports reporter Steve Tervet described "disgraceful scenes" as fans jumped the hoardings and one appeared to aim a kick at Ashmore as he lay prone.

Objects had already been thrown at Ashmore after some angry exchanges with home supporters behind his goal.

Chesterfield's chief executive said there had been an allegation of racial abuse and of physical contact with an Ebbsfleet player during the pitch invasion. At least one supporter was reportedly detained.

In a statement, Chesterfield FC said: "Incidents which occurred towards the end of today’s game against Ebbsfleet United are not acceptable to Chesterfield Football Club and the club condemns the conduct of a minority of supporters.

"The club will fully co-operate with Derbyshire Police and the FA investigation which is now underway. The implications for the club are very serious and an appeal is made to supporters to not engage in matters of pitch encroachment at any time. There have also been a number of serious allegations relating to racial abuse and physical contact involving opposition players.

"The club intends to deal with these matters strongly and as and when individuals are identified, banning orders will be issued. We would urge anyone with information about the incidents to contact the club. All communication will be dealt with on a confidential basis."

Italy : Inter ultra death investigation spreads - 05/01/2019

Source : https://www.football-italia.net/

There are now eight Napoli supporters under investigation after Inter ultra Daniele Belardinelli was run over and killed outside San Siro.

The incident occurred during clashes between supporters ahead of the Serie A match on December 26.

Inter ultras seemingly laid an ambush for the visiting Napoli fans on the road towards the stadium, in which several people were stabbed, but Belardinelli was hit by at least one vehicle and died later that night.

Belardinelli was later confirmed to be an ultra of Varese, but they are twinned with Inter and some of their supporters, along with others from Nice, had travelled to Milan for the attack on Napoli fans.

Investigations continue and news agency Ansa reports that there are now eight people under investigation, as it is believed two different cars struck Belardinelli.

There were five aboard a Volvo V40 that has already been identified and sequestered by police, plus another three in a white SUV.

PSG fined by Uefa for crowd trouble - 11/01/2019

Source : https://www.supersport.com/

Paris Saint-Germain have escaped with a fine from European football's governing body Uefa following crowd trouble at their Champions League home game against Red Star Belgrade in October.

The French giants ran the risk of being forced to play their next home European match – against Manchester United in the Champions League last 16 second leg in March – behind closed doors.

Trouble erupted outside the Parc des Princes after the game, but the only punishment for the crowd disturbances and "illicit chants" from their supporters was a fine of €35 000.

Red Star, who lost the game 6-1, were also fined €25 000 for chants from their supporters.

Real Madrid fans call on president Florentino Perez to resign after months of crisis

There were just 44,231 spectators in the stadium last night, easily the lowest crowd of the season. Even in January and for the cup, it was a poor turnout. Nevertheless, many of those present made their voices heard.

With the scores at 0-0 early on in the game, there were chants of “Florentino, dimisión” (Florentino, resign) from a group of fans above the press box. The Ultras Sur, supposedly banished from the Bernabeu but still here and present in numbers last night, were venting their anger at the Real president.

The chant was repeated when Madrid won a penalty late in the first half, then again after Sergio Ramos scored it to give Santiago Solari’s side the lead and a couple of times in the second period as well.

Italy : Police injured as Lazio's 119th anniversary celebrations turn violent - 09/01/2019

Source : https://www.thelocal.it/

Eight police officers were injured after celebrations to mark Lazio's 119th anniversary in the centre of Rome turned violent.

The skirmishes took place at Piazza della Liberta in the centre of the Italian capital where up to 2,500 Lazio fans gathered late Tuesday at the site of the club's foundation, police told Italian media today.

The gathering had also been attended by the club's president Claudio Lotito who addressed the crowd but left before tensions mounted.

Shortly after midnight, an estimated 300 fans, with their faces covered, broke away from the main group and began throwing bottles and other objects at police, who responded with tear gas and water cannons.

Police said eight officers had injuries, mostly with cuts and bruising.

One fan was arrested and three others detained, all with links to the club's notorious 'Ultra' fans.

All will receive DASPO Urbano exclusion orders, a 'Sports Event Access Ban'.

SS Lazio - Novara - Cup - 12/01/2019

Source : https://www.france24.com/

Focus on racist and anti-Semitic chants is a 'psychosis', say Lazioo

Lazio blasted as "a psychosis focusing on either a minority or non-existent incidents" after racist and anti-Semitic chants overshadowed the team's 4-1 Italian Cup win over Novara at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

The chanting early in the first half was heard in Lazio's North End and was aimed at the club's bitter city rivals AS Roma, with taunts of "Yellow, red and Jewish" and "This Roma that looks like Africa".

It also targeted police who had clashed with fans on Wednesday at Piazza della Liberta in the capital when celebrations to mark the club's 119th anniversary turned violent.

Eight police were injured and four supporters arrested.

"I am here to talk about the racist and anti-Semitic chants that are supposed to have happened," club spokesman Arturo Diaconale told a press conference after the game.

"I am one of the 98 percent of people in the stadium who didn't hear them.

"The club naturally condemns any racist or anti-Semitic chants, but we have to consider the dimensions of the phenomenon.

"I think it's a form of psychosis focusing on either a minority or non-existent incidents.

"I read about chants as if the entire stadium had participated. We mustn't turn this into a mass panic over nothing. I invite our colleagues in the media to give the right degree of consideration to incidents that would normally be ignored," added Diaconale.

Italian police are also investigating after AS Roma supporters allegedly distributed anti-Semitic leaflets in the north of the city on Wednesday to coincide with the anniversary of Lazio, with whom they share the Stadio Olimpico.

The leaflets, signed by a group of Roma ultras, read: "Lazio, Napoli and Israel, same colours, same flags. S**t."

It comes just over a year after Lazio ultras posted anti-Semitic stickers depicting Holocaust victim Anne Frank in a Roma jersey in the Stadio Olimpico.

Italian football is still reeling after violence before Inter Milan's game against Napoli on December 26.

There were violent clashes before the game in the San Siro with an Inter supporter killed after being hit by a car, while Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was subjected to racist chanting on the pitch.

West Ham United fan throws horse manure at Birmingham City supporters prior to FA Cup clash at London Stadium

Much of the focus before the game was on the extra police presence around the London Stadium.

Despite the victory and the successful debut of Samir Nasri, the game may well be remembered for one West Ham fan throwing horse manure at the travelling supporters.

Trouble followed Hammers FA cup win

West Ham supporters say Birmingham fans broke through a safety barrier following the FA cup win outside the London Stadium causing many to fear for their safety. Police and stewards failed to keep the two sets of fans separated post-match.

One eyewitness who spoke to Claret and Hugh who asked not to be named said “They (police) penned in West Ham fans and Birmingham fans were charging at us”

Another said Birmingham fans threw Blue smoke flares at Hammers fans and was surprised no-one ended up in hospital adding that stewards lost control in the park by the Aquatics Centre and surrounding areas.

The troubles will come as little surprise to many as Birmingham fans were arrested more often than those of any other club last season. Blues fans were arrested 95 times for football-related offences last season, according to figures released by the Home Office recently. That’s by far and away the highest number of arrests of any club in English football. West Ham had the highest number of arrests in the Premier League with 46.

England : Football banning orders handed out after violence at Middlesbrough v Millwall game - 14/01/2019

Source : https://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/

More than 20 suspects have been identified after a police investigation into trouble at a game between Middlesbrough and Millwall.

Middlesbrough won the crunch Championship game on Saturday, April 28 last year, to secure their place in the promotion play-offs. But stewards and police had to keep rival fans apart after Boro supporters invaded the pitch at the end and ran to the away end. Millwall supporters responded to their taunts by throwing missiles, which home fans returned, and fights also broke out. Cleveland Police launched Operation Hyde after the match and issued pictures of dozens of fans they wanted to identify. Today it was revealed that extensive enquiries have identified and dealt with 22 suspects, 15 of whom have been reported for summons, while seven have been dealt with via youth interventions. Banning orders have so far been issued by the court to seven Middlesbrough and five Millwall fans. They were all fined, and one was also ordered to do community service. Superintendent Dave Sutherland of Cleveland Police said: “Working with colleagues in the Metropolitan Police and at Middlesbrough FC we have conducted a thorough investigation into the disorder following the Middlesbrough v Millwall fixture in April last year.

“As a consequence a number of individuals were identified and are being dealt with through the criminal justice process, with a number of them being banned from attending future football matches. “Middlesbrough has a proud history of football and many passionate supporters. Unfortunately the actions of a small minority can spoil it for others and put the safety of genuine fans at risk. “We will never tolerate this type of behaviour. We will continue to work with the football club to identify those involved in football-related disorder, bring them to justice and where appropriate seek football banning orders.” Chris Patzelt, Safety Officer at Middlesbrough Football Club, said: “Our role is to provide a safe environment for supporters to enjoy their football at the Riverside.

"The success of the enquiry has been down to a number of factors. "The police have worked closely with ourselves to collate sufficiently robust evidence against the wrongdoers, Millwall FC has actively assisted us throughout the enquiry, magistrates have issued very appropriate sentences to those found guilty of crimes and, above all, our thanks to members of the public who have come forward to assist in the identification of offenders.”

Ten hooligans behind bars in Zurich - 14/01/2019

Source : https://www.swissinfo.ch/

Following an attack on German football fans in Zurich, ten hooligans suspected of violence are now in pre-trial detention.

The ten men, aged 21-34, were arrested on Wednesday. Zurich city police and the public prosecutor’s office announced on Monday that the men would be held in custody until they are tried before a court.

The men are accused of attacking German football fans on Langstrasse on October 25, 2018.

The incident occurred after the Europa League match between FC Zurich (FCZ) and Bayer Leverkusen. Men attacked several German fans, three of whom needed medical attention.

Most of the attackers had FCZ fan articles on their person. The police investigation, supported by German police, finally led to the arrests of the men last week.

Travel ban
In recent months, violence among football fans has increased in Zurich, triggered by a smaller group of violent fans. The police assume that around 200 people belong to this group.

Hooliganism has been a problem throughout Switzerland in recent years. In 2016, Switzerland banned nearly 800 known hooligans from travelling to the Euro 2016 football tournament in France.

A database launched on a trial basis has been tracking the violent activity at matches in Switzerland.

Marseille in turmoil as angry fans turn on coach and players

Discussions between fans and players were heated and agitated, complete with aggressive hand gestures from the fans. Burly security officials kept a close watch but weren't needed as the verbal sparring — intense as it was — did not escalate further.

Moments later, under-pressure Marseille coach Rudi Garcia followed onto the field and cautiously made his way over.

He joined in the vehement discussions only very briefly, and more as a show of faith, before walking away with Thauvin. They spoke to each other with hands cusped over mouths, foiling the lip-reading cameras zooming in on them.

Tense discussions continued inside the stadium corridors, as the veteran Mandanda — who counts more than 450 appearances for Marseille — spoke at length with unhappy representatives from Marseille fan groups. Gustavo looked on pensively nearby, neither overawed or inclined to speak. Yet his stunned silence was perhaps reflective of how helpless both the players and the fans feel.

The atmosphere in Marseille was at its toxic worst on Sunday night - a far cry from May last year when tens of thousands of jubilant Marseille fans descended onto the French city of Lyon to follow their team in the Europa League final against Atletico Madrid.

The humiliating Cup eliminations were particularly galling for fans, with Marseille picking up one point in six group games in the Europa League — even finishing below unheralded Cypriot team Limassol — and going out of the French Cup to a team in the fourth tier.

The fans have had enough and want Garcia out. Not only that, they want the whole set up changed.

During Sunday's game, fans unfurled banners with some choice comments.

"Players, Coach, Directors. All Guilty," read one banner, while another struck an accusatory tone with "You are all an organized scam."

Another strongly-worded one read: "Humiliated in Europe, League Cup, French Cup. Directors, coach, players, you're the shame of Marseille."

One banner even took a sarcastic swipe at club president Jacques-Henri Eyrault, mocking him for his use of PowerPoint presentations.

"Do you need a PowerPoint to work hard ?" it said, seemingly to parody the team's apparent lack of work ethic.

Only victories can stem the negative tide and Marseille desperately needs to go on a winning run to get fans back onside.

Next up is a difficult trip to fourth-place Saint-Etienne on Wednesday.
