Fan arrested for confronting Arsenal boss
A supporter was arrested after confronting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in his dugout during the Gunners' 2-0 defeat at Southampton. The 25-year-old man approached Wenger, 65, but was led away by stewards and detained by Hampshire Police. Southampton say the man was an Arsenal fan sat with home supporters but Wenger thought it was a Saints' follower. The incident comes after Wenger was abused by Arsenal fans when boarding a train after December's loss at Stoke.
At St Mary's, Wenger's assistant Steve Bould angrily gestured to the supporter who was guided straight down the tunnel by a group of stewards quick to react. "It was a young boy," said Wenger afterwards. "I think it was a Southampton fan. He was not aggressive at all. I don't think he said anything." A Hampshire Constabulary statement read: "The man, arrested on suspicion of going onto area adjacent to playing area contrary to the Football (Offences) Act 1991, remains in police custody. "Officers are investigating circumstances to establish whether any criminal offences have been committed." Wenger, in his 19th season at Arsenal, was the subject of protests by some Gunners' fans earlier this season, with a banner asking him to leave unveiled at West Brom in November. A solid recent run of form has dampened criticism of the Frenchman, who guided his side to the FA Cup in May, a first trophy in nine seasons. But his side lost for the first time in five matches at Southampton as Ronald Koeman's side capitalised on two errors by Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to move fourth in the Premier League, one place and three points above their visitors.

Football fans arrested after pub brawl in Highcross Street, Leicester city centre
Police have arrested at least three football fans after a pub brawl in Leicester city centre.
Officers were called to the Richard III pub, in Highcross Street, at about 3.30pm.
It is understood that an ashtray was thrown at a group of football supporters by a second group of men.
A fight then erupted and police were called to the scene.
Officers were able to calm the situation before making the arrests.
Eyewitness Ruth Holland, 51, from Narborough, was driving past at the time and said a traffic cone missed her car by inches.
She said: "I was going into the Highcross car park and saw them all out in the road.
"Then one of them threw a cone and just missed my car.
"It all happened so quickly I didn't really know what was going on."
Nearby businesses also got a shock as the violence erupted.
Jamie MacKay, assistant manager at nearby salon Danique, said: "At first I thought they were just messing around but it started to get a bit heated.
"Then they started shouting and fighting in the street."
A spokeswoman for the police confirmed that officers were called to the scene and that "at least three people have been arrested".
Leicestershire Police's football command twitter account tweeted this afternoon that five Aston Villa fans had been "arrested for fighting in Leicester City Centre"
Police have not released any further information about the incident this afternoon.

Four arrested following Newport County's clash with Portsmouth
GWENT police say Newport County's clash against Portsmouth was 'overall peaceful' following four arrests in connection with the match.
There was a high police presence in the city centre today which included officers on horses and police dogs ahead of the afternoon match.
Around 1,000 Portsmouth fans are believed to have attended and were bussed to the Rodney Parade while others were escorted on foot by police.
Three of the four who were arrested are in police custody which includes a 19-year-old man from Newport for public order offences, a 28-year-old from Newport for breach of the peace, a 24-year-old from Hampshire for public order offences.
Gwent Police had earlier this week warned fans from partaking in violence after a Newport County supporter was given a three year ban for his involvement in violence after the game in the corresponding fixture in August last year.
A 25-year-old from Pontyclun was arrested and has been charged for breaching a dispersal order and has been bailed to appear in court next month.
Superintendent Glyn Fernquest of Gwent Police was leading today's operation.
He said: "Now the match is over, I am pleased that, overall, the day was peaceful and the majority of fans were good natured and responsibly behaved.
“We had an increased presence in the City and appropriate planning in place to ensure we could deal with all eventualities - for the safety of all those attending and to ensure the game was as enjoyable as it should be but also to ensure that shoppers and residents could go about their daily business with minimal disruption."

PSG fans banned from attending French league match in Bastia
Paris Saint-Germain fans have been banned from attending their club's next league game at Bastia because of the risk of violence between hooligans.
Three seasons ago, Bastia supporters threw projectiles at the bus carrying PSG players to the stadium before clashing with police forces following the game. Clashes before and after a weekend match in Corsica between Bastia and Marseille in August last year left 44 police officers injured.
PSG says the top government official in Corsica has issued a stadium ban for all PSG supporters ahead of Saturday's game. PSG fans also won't be allowed to gather near the stadium.
Police forces are on alert across France following the terror attack on a newspaper office that claimed a dozen lives on Wednesday.

At Bastia's Stade Furiani in Corsica, where the home team was playing Paris Saint Germain, the minute's silence was perfectly observed.
But some fans then unfurled a banner bearing the words 'Qatar finances PSG and terrorism' in a crude reference to the Paris club which is financed by the Gulf state.

Police arrested 41 football fans on Sunday following violent scenes during the high-profile match between Limassol hosts AEL and visitors APOEL. Referee Demetris Masias was forced to stop the game on 14 minutes – moments after APOEL’s John Arne Riise had given his side the lead – after supporters situated in the APOEL stands began throwing smoke bombs and running onto the pitch. Just when police thought they had brought the fans under control, fans of the home side decided to stage a similar pitch invasion forcing another stoppage from the match official. The second incident had forced Masias and his assistants to retreat to the dressing rooms while opposing fans began hurling things at each other. It was during those ugly scenes that AEL defender Valentinos Sielis was reportedly hurt by a firework that fell and subsequently exploded close to him. He got up moments later and continued playing. The total stoppage came to about 20 minutes. Police moved in on the APOEL fans after the game as they attempted to board a bus back to Nicosia outside the Tsirio Stadium where the game took place. According to witnesses, Anti-Riot Police (MMAD) entered the coach and began pulling out travelling fans. More arrests followed involving AEL supporters. Meawhile, an arrest warrant has been issued against a man in connection with Sunday's violence.

Seven injured as football fans clash with police at indoor football tournament in Germany - 10/01/2015
Several people were injured after violent clashes broke out between riot police and football fans during an indoor football tournament in Frankfurt on Saturday.
Reports said that four fans and three police officers were injured as violent clashes occurred during the match between German club SV Darmstadt 98 and Swiss-based team Grasshoppers Zürich.
A confrontation between players on the pitch soon spread is said to have spread to the stands with both sets of supporters throwing plastic cups filled with beer and other missiles at one another.
Footage from the game then saw fist fights taking place as Darmstadt fans attempted to invade the Zurich section of the stands.
Riot police were sent to break up the scuffles but this seemed only to spark further outrage as police and Zurich fans clashed.
Police were eventually forced to use pepper spray and batons to try and calm down the supporters on both sides as the violence spread to outside the arena and into the gangways behind the stands.
Police reported that four Zurich fans were arrested following the outbreak of violence.
The game was abandoned with Darmstadt leading Zurich 4-3.

5 in hospital after masked attackers in Poland stop train, brawl with passengers - 17/01/2015
Source : Mail
hools from Lechia Gdansk (150~) attacked tonight train with hools Arka Gdynia (FC Tczew) who travel to Sopol.

Source : http://rt.com/
Several dozen masked people have attacked a passenger train with Mixed Martial Arts fans onboard in Poland. An investigation in the brawl that left up to 10 people injured has been launched.
The attack happened late on Saturday, when between 100 and 200 people, according to varying estimates, in masks and black attire stopped the train at Gdansk Zabianka railway station.
"First someone threw stones at the train, then someone on the train pulled the emergency brake," Maciej Steplewski from Gdansk police told Polish Press Agency.
At least three windows were smashed in the attack.
According to Steplewski there were “about a hundred” masked assailants, but local Radio Gdansk citing local witnesses reported of 150-200 people involved in the brawl.
Many of the train’s passengers were fans of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) travelling to a competition in Sopot, a town in northern Poland.
Steplewski said that the investigation believes that both sides involved – the attackers and the fans – are what he called “hooligans”.
At least five people, including one woman, have been hospitalized, Steplewski said. Four of them received non-threatening injuries, while the fifth is unconscious. The witnesses at the scene, however, told Radio Gdansk that dozens were injured.
On Sunday, police arrested six people in connection with the train attack. They are now being interrogated.
The exact motives of the attack are yet unknown. Investigators are now working to determine the identities of the attackers, Steplewski said.
