Fears English hooligans are planning to wreak havoc at Celtic v Rangers clash probed by police

REPORTS that English football hoodlums are planning to cause trouble at Sunday’s Old Firm League Cup semi final are being probed by police.

Senior officers are aware of online reports about groups of fans heading north for the first meeting between rivals Celtic and Rangers in almost three years.

Police Scotland say it is normal practice to contact English forces ahead of high profile matches and plans put in place for Scotland’s clash with England in November will also be utilised.

Chief Superintendent Andy Bates said: “The policing arrangements are almost identical for Saturday and Sunday.

“There is always the anticipation there could be trouble. There is the potential for risk from supporters who travel from other parts of the country to these games.

“We are monitoring that and have an intelligence-led operation to deal with it. The whole purpose is preventing disorder.

“We have an operation in place to identify potential troublemakers, engage with them and basically disrupt any plans they may have.”

Officers have also targeted known wifebeaters ahead of the match

Police have monitored online traffic ahead of the big match but so far no arrests have been made.

Chief Supt Bates added: “The plan has been going on since the draw was made. It’s well practised and is ready to go. We are prepared.”

Brazilian Goalkeeper Ricardo Berna Hit By Fans Who Invaded Changing Room

Fans of Brazilian club Flamengo invaded the changing room of an opposing team before a match in the Rio de Janeiro state championship on Saturday, injuring a player and reportedly stealing boots and other items.

Macae goalkeeper Ricardo Berna sustained a cut on his chin in the confrontation with Flamengo fans in Macae. He said dozens of fans entered his team's changing room while players were getting ready for the game.

Police said fans got past security and sneaked in through a gate that was not closed properly.

Berna, who used to play for Flamengo rival Fluminense, said Macae only went ahead with the game "in respect to most of the fans who came out to the stadium." He also called for "severe punishment to those responsible" for the invasion.

Saturday night, Sedan fans who stopped in Reims to have a lunch in a fast foot were in contact with Reims rivals to propose them a fight.
The fight took place at 8.45pm in front of the pub "La Bodega".
Chairs were used and police intervened.
Seventeen Sedan fans were arrested.

Sunday, at 4pm, several Reims and Lens fans fronted in Vesle street, one hour before kick off.
At least five of them were arrested and another one was wounded at his face.
Later, another fight took place opposing only Lens fans.
Arrests were made.
