Turkey: Prosecutor demands up to 23 years for hooligan - 23/01/2023
Source : Hurryiet
The derby between the western province of İzmir’s rivals, Göztepe and Altay, was suspended when a signal flare was thrown by Altay fan Furkan Ersanlı at the Göztepe stand, injuring a man and two children.
Seconds after, a Göztepe fan named Mehmet Nihat Aydın injured Altay’s goalkeeper Ozan Evrim Özenç with a corner pole. The police detained 20 suspects from both sides in one of the most tragic football events in the country.
The prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of up to 15 years for Aydın on charges of “attempting to kill deliberately” and up to 23 years for Ersanlı on charges of “attempting to kill deliberately,” “taking dangerous equipment into sports fields and disrupting the competition order,” and “endangering public security deliberately.”
Ersanlı entered the stadium by hiding the flare brought in the fan’s bus to the banner in his hand, the indictment said, whereas he claimed in his statement that he found the flare by chance and mistook it for a torch.
Demanded to be punished for the same crimes, 18 other defendants were freed by a judicial control decision.
Sports commentators also reacted to the derby fight. “They are not hooligans but terrorists,” said daily Hürriyet columnist Uğur Meleke, asking the authorities to punish the hooligans with harsh sentences. “If this issue is taken lightly, bigger stadium terror events may occur in the future,” he added.
“While there is no historical tension between the two teams, the events that took place were incomprehensible,” said Güntekin Onay, another commentator for daily Hürriyet.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has forfeited both teams due to the events.
The fight forced players and referees to go into the locker room. Mehmet Çakır, the fan who had severe damage to his jaw and teeth and burns on his left side, had to undergo surgery.
There was also tension in the locker room corridors while waiting for the referee’s decision. Police teams intervened in the chaos between the football players and managers of the two teams.
Altay’s players and fans were kept waiting in the stadium for a while after the match was canceled by the referee.
After Altay’s players left the stadium in police vans, the black-and-white side’s fans left the stadium in buses under supervision after waiting for about seven hours.

Paganese-Casertana, clashes between ultras: away fans set in fire
Italy vows to get tough with football hooligans after Pagani violence
Police officer among those injured in clashes. Italy's interior ministry on Sunday called for "exemplary sanctions" after hardcore 'ultra' football fans clashed in the southern town of Pagani near Naples ahead of a Serie D match between Paganese and Casertana.
The violence began half an hour before kick-off when a bus carrying a group of about 50 Casertana supporters caught fire after a smoke bomb was thrown near the town's Marcello Torre stadium.
The football fans manged to get off the bus before it went up in flames, and in the ensuing violence several people were taken to hospital with injuries, including a Carabiniere police officer.
There was also damage caused to some private homes and cars parked in the area near the stadium, according to news agency ANSA.
The interior ministry said it is ready to proceed with "the utmost rigour" against those behind the clashes and would be assessing new measures to prevent violence at football matches considered "at risk".
Italy's deputy premier Matteo Salvini on Twitter posted a video of the hooliganism, labelling those involved as "criminals, not fans" and calling for them to receive a life ban from stadiums.
The violence was also condemned as "unacceptable" by the Casertana club which said in a statement that the "horrifying scenes clash with our way of understanding football."
The incident in Pagani comes two weeks after clashes between Roma and Napoli 'ultras' blocked Italy's A1 highway near Arezzo, in scenes compared to "the Wild West" by interior ministry undersecretary Nicola Molteni.

Cyprus : Fighting breaks out in Limassol during Eoka memorial - 22/01/2023
Source : https://cyprus-mail.com/
An investigation team to identify those involved has been set up by the Limassol police after stones and Molotov cocktails were thrown on Sunday as fighting broke out in the area of the hideout and tomb of Eoka leader Georgios Grivas Digenis during a memorial service for him.
Six police officers and two members of the public were injured while cars, shop windows and rubbish bins were damaged.
According to the police, fans of a Nicosia football team went to the area near the hideout, located on Griva Digeni Street, and began to argue with those of another team, causing unrest.
During a speech being given by former national guard chief Ilias Leontari the fans from Apoel and Apollon clashed, shortly after 10am.
“They clashed with each other and were armed with stones, firecrackers and an exchange ensued between them. They were pushed out of the area of the monument by the police and a confrontation ensued between the two rioting groups,” Kyriacou said.
The two groups of fans moved into the side streets where the fighting continued although a heavy police presence was seen, including members of the rapid response unit MMAD.
“The police intervened to restore order and by around 11.30 in the morning managed to remove the fans from the area,” he added.
Members of the police have collected evidence from the scene of the incidents and work has already begun to identify the perpetrators.
According to the Limassol police spokesman, six police officers and two civilians were injured in these incidents, which also caused damage to cars, patrol cars and police motorcycles.

The police and carabinieri arrested 9 ultras. These are 7 fans from Paganese and 2 from Casertana, some of whom have already been affected by daspo measures in the past.
The investigations, launched following the clashes between opposing supporters last Sunday, along the route to reach the "Marcello Torre" municipal stadium in Pagani, on the occasion of the Paganese-Casertana football match, make it possible to identify the perpetrators who initially remained unknown. In fact, they had acted with a hidden face.
Subjects are investigated for a variety of reasons for the crimes of possessing and throwing blunt objects and smoke bombs, resisting a public official, fighting, causing havoc, and others. These are facts that led, among other things, to the burning of a bus transporting supporters of the Caserta team, causing damage to a building and multiple properties in the surrounding area. Finally, also the injury of one of the carabinieri who intervened to protect public order.
The public prosecutor of Nocera Inferiore, notified of the arrest and the reasons for the coercive measures, ordered the house arrest, pending the hearing to validate the arrest.

Fortunately, no one appeared to be hurt, as the United players quickly moved away from the fans to allow stewards and police to step in and help people to their feet.
Within minutes the fans were back in place and the advertising board was replaced. Police and stewards then remained in a line in front of the away fans to prevent the incident from recurring.

Source : https://www.dailypost.co.uk/
Riot police were called after trouble flared before the game at Boundary Park in October last year
Six men have been arrested after violence flared before Wrexham AFC's game against Oldham Athletic on October 1. The men, aged between 29 and 55, from the Wrexham area, were arrested for a variety of public order offences as a result of the trouble, prior to the Vanarama National League football game.
North Wales Police said they had assisted Great Manchester Police in conducting proactive arrests of some of the men involved in the disturbance, which saw riot police called. All six men have been questioned and they, and another male arrested in November last year, will remain on conditional police bail whilst the investigation continues.
A number of men, aged between 18 and 30 years, were also arrested after the game, on suspicion of violent disorder. Fans had been caught on camera brawling in the street.

Groningen - SC Cambuur - 26/01/2023
Source : https://www.rtlnieuws.nl/
The latest bad chapter for the Eredivisie side saw a group of fans storm the pitch in the late stages of a 1-0 home loss to fellow relegation zone strugglers SC Cambuur. Daniël van Kaam’s 77th minute goal condemned Groningen to their seventh straight competitive defeat. Groningen has now fallen dead last in the Dutch top flight.
Angry supporters piled onto the field from the supporters’ end of Euroborg Stadium and moved towards the team benches, with the match being suspended for about 15 minutes as a result. RTV Noord reported that the teams left the playing surface while stewards cleared the field.
