The Netherlands : 11 Feyenoord fans arrested for homophobic slogans on alderman's home, threats, arson - 20/01/2023
Source : https://nltimes.nl/
The police arrested 11 “hardcore” Feyenoord supporters on Friday for threat, insult, intimidation, and arson. They are accused of displaying threatening banners in Tirana, vandalizing a Rotterdam alderman’s home with homophobic slogans, and setting fire to a gym belonging to the president of the Roze Kameraden - a group of LGBTQIA+ Feyenoord supporters.
The banners in Tirana in May last year featured insults and death threats directed at Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, his daughter, and Paul van Dorst, the chairman of the Roze Kameraden. Van Dorst also had his gym vandalized and set on fire. And homophobic slogans were spray-painted on LeefbaarRotterdam alderman Robert Simons’ home.
The suspects arrested on Friday are between the ages of 21 and 36 and from Rotterdam, The Hague, Arnemuiden, Uden, and Rijswijk.
“It concerns minor offenses from a legal point of view, public order offenses such as vandalism or insult. But they are offenses with a huge impact. Your home is your safe haven. If that is completely covered with discriminatory and threatening texts, it does a lot to your sense of security,” the police said.
The suspects are also linked to other football-related crimes, including an anti-Semitic mural of footballer Steven Berghuis, a young Groningen supporter robbed of his pants who had to go home without them, and a brick thrown through the window of a Vlaardingen press photographer.
Last year, the police already arrested 45 suspects in connection with these crimes. They didn’t report the arrests in the interest of the investigation. “But now it is time to send a clear signal to people who make football unsafe: your behavior is unacceptable. We are on top of it,” the police said.
In addition to criminal prosecution, the KNVB is also investigating whether it can ban these suspects from football stadiums in the Netherlands.

Supporters try to attack Vercoutre
Corsican supporters took the opportunity to enter the edge of the field, trying to attack Vercoutre. Some gave punches on the plexiglass window protecting the bench.
Rémy Vercoutre was then escorted to the stadium tunnel, under the insults of several ACA fans. Tensions also erupted between Corsican supporters in the stands (those of Lyon were evacuated before the end of the game to take a ferry). In this deleterious context, Alexandre Lacazette had to cut short his interview on the edge of the field with Canal + Foot after receiving several projectiles. Asked about these incidents, Laurent Blanc noted "a little excitement and turbulence", explaining that it was not a first in L1.

Adolescent touched by the fireworks threw from Sion ultras
FC Sion is under investigation after its ultras fired firecrackers and falres during the derby game against Servette. A spectator was injured. Clubs and League say they are quite helpless.
“I saw the rocket explode very close to the girl. But she was able to leave on foot, the rescuers who intervened on the spot obviously did not need to use their stretcher ”, rewinds a spectator of the Servette-Sion match on Sunday, seated in the main stand near the Valais sector. Our sources confirm that a 16-year-old girl was slightly injured, while Sedun ultras lit up the sky with their stupidity. On several occasions, the match had to be interrupted due to the firing of fireworks from the visitor parking lot.
Troubles also outside The situation was also tense outside the stadium. The cantonal police report the “festive” use of smoke bombs in the processions of supporters of the two clubs, before the match. Spokesperson for the police, Alexandre Brahier points out that "if this is done without endangering users of the public highway, we supervise the parades without intervening, so as not to create more trouble." Change of scenery, however, after the derby. “Ultras from Geneva and Valais threw smoke bombs and projectiles at the police. We had to use sprays. There were no injuries, to our knowledge.” No one was arrested.

UK Police apologise for Hillsborough disaster after 34 years that claimed lives of 97 Liverpool supporters - 31/01/2023
Source : https://www.wionews.com/
UK police chiefs on Tuesday apologised to the victims of the 1989 Hillsborough football disaster as they unveiled plans for "essential reform", including measures to prevent evidence being lost or destroyed.
97 Liverpool fans lost their lives in a crush at the stadium in Sheffield, northern England, with police chiefs admitting on Tuesday that "policing got it badly wrong".
"Policing has profoundly failed those bereaved by the Hillsborough disaster over many years and we are sorry that the service got it so wrong," said Andy Marsh, CEO of the College of Policing.
"Police failures were the main cause of the tragedy and have continued to blight the lives of family members ever since." Marsh accepted that "the bereaved were often treated insensitively".
The comments came as the National Police Chiefs Council and the College of Policing published a joint response to a 2017 government-commissioned report published by former Liverpool Bishop James Jones.
Reforms following the report include all police forces in England and Wales signing up to a charter that states they "must acknowledge when mistakes have been made and must not seek to defend the indefensible".
Police chiefs have also agreed on a new code of practice on retaining information, with many records surrounding the Hillsborough disaster either lost or destroyed.
"I am deeply sorry for the tragic loss of life, and for the pain and suffering that the families of the 97 victims experienced on that day and in the many years that have followed," said National Police Chiefs Council Chair Martin Hewitt.
"Police chiefs today are committed to responding to major incidents with openness and with compassion for the families involved," he added.
The Hillsborough disaster remains Britain's worst sporting tragedy and was caused during a crowd surge at one end of Sheffield Wednesday's ground hosting Liverpool supporters.

A 2016 inquest came after years of campaigning by victims' families and found police errors in opening an exit gate before kick-off caused the fatal crush at the FA Cup semi-final tie.
Police initially claimed supporters had stormed the gate. But South Yorkshire Police admitted after the hearing they got match policing "catastrophically wrong".
Match commander David Duckenfield was tried twice for gross negligence manslaughter. A jury failed to reach a verdict in the first and he was cleared in a second trial in 2019.
